kamel harris will be sworn into office but with a bitterly obstructive eye for the president and a continuing pandemic just how different will the traditional celebrations going to be special coverage of the u.s. presidential inauguration are now to 0. i am fairly ok today on the strain when looking at the fallout out of the capitol building in riots in the united states recent arrests of activists in hong kong and a vaccine has to see during the global pandemic there was a lot going on in the show if you have a comment or question you know what to do if you're on you tube jumping to the comment section and need to you can be part of this discussion we start in the united states where people are still talking about what happened a wednesday the washington d.c.
5:34 pm
well the events that took place here in washington d.c. at the capitol building on january 6th may have been a surprise for some for those of us that study terrorism and extremism it unfortunately wasn't so much of a shock we've seen strong polarization taking place here in the united states in the past number of years which is she holds extreme views including conspiracy theories some of which have seeped into mainstream ideas as well as politics this is something that moving forward needs to be addressed to help reunite the country again with that being said those involved in the events at the capitol on wednesday need to be held accountable to send a strong message that the democratic system cannot be disrupted by intimidation and violence. getting together back to. happened on wednesday would be finding out
5:35 pm
well i just won't give you my perspective where i was on wednesday 1st right now i'm in the russell senate building and before and wednesday i was in the cannon office building and we were told that there was a possible bomb and we had to get out the police rushed us out the door and much time when i got out the door just as the police locked it and kept people locked in for hours and what we saw was just a terrible wall of people descending on the capitol and i stayed as far as i could i was still exposed wafting tear gas so i was close enough to have that but i honestly didn't want to go into the crowd because we know how they feel about the media and they were attacking journalists left and right so i was a bit of a distance away but i saw the police trying to hold the purchaser's back and shalini amazingly quickly but we know now as it should ios day piecing things together it looks like there were about 4 people that kept members of congress from being in the health hostage or attacked or potentially killed by these rioters
5:36 pm
these. people and the house speaker the house speaker lobby there were 3 cops that basically held people back as they were punching through the glass around them to try and get the members of congress who were looking for the only exit they could find still and then decided side this mob rushes the stairs and the only thing there was one happy african-american officer there and if these people had turned to the right they were yelling where's the senate where's the senate if they had turned to the right and you're watching this video now they would be able to walk into an unlocked chamber of the senate you can see he sort of used himself as bait and they followed him up to the next set of stairs so they couldn't get into the senate so if you think about this it was literally for. 4 people and their actions in the course of 2 to 3 minutes made distribute from a absolute stunning shocking event to a could've easily been
5:37 pm
a tragedy. very quickly the f.b.i. put out seeking. i want to say wanted cases like exactly how great they they were at it since they were looking for these people who stormed into the capitol building you was a could see some of them can you explain what they were sinking or what they were feeding have already wanting because the country's design didn't right now about whether it was a good thing what happened on wednesday where it was a bad. ok well anyone who thinks it was a good thing is obviously just doraine just because it's the state of vision of democracy was attacked by the only police officer was what appears to be beaten to death so no i don't think anyone can say there was anything positive that came out of this i think there could be a lot of investigations how do you describe the mood of the crowd it was a mixture and head of the how you mix these 2 together between joy and anger at
5:38 pm
what they saw is righteous anger they were so unabashedly proud of themselves they were cheering each other on there was i dreaded in college and graduate school about mob mentality i don't think i've ever actually seen it in person it was like a collective heat and passion over these thousands of people they were vile they were angry they said horrible things to us luckily and i did have security to luckily we weren't attacked because the feeling was there were such gross incompetence among the security officials that i truly felt at the time that if i looked more wrong at one of these people and the mob turned on us that nobody was coming to help. that they felt so clearly that they were on the wrong right side of history. clear that they are in shock. you need me in. who we spoke to earlier he was really to find out and to make sure that
5:39 pm
there were consequences for what happened don't say. anything less than impeachment and accountability towards those who stormed the capitol and honestly of those who were those police officers who were complicit in allowing it would be a breakdown of justice there needs to be a recommitment. the republicans to our shared democratic values that make america what it is enough is enough america needs hillary hearing . the only way i see that happening is if we hold goals who were involved accountable. so there you hear anything. need to respond to that the way i've described this to my friends and family is what happened here at the capitol is either the most incredible case of incompetence or there's some sense of
5:40 pm
a conspiracy here because there was if there was a plan i couldn't tell that to you know i'd say it's capitol fell it a matter of minutes i mean that's just it's it's shocking and i've run out of all of the different words for it as far as accountability for president trump this week at the house of representatives will take a vote and they will have the majority simple majority to vote to impeach him then they're going to hold it for a 100 days so the senate can get about doing the business of confirming joe biden stop unease for cabinet positions and other positions and then what will happen is they'll give it do it when once they and that people work over the senate there will be a trial now trump is going to argue you can't impeach a president who's gone longer in office there is legal precedent that says yes you can it is but done before by the sphere to the secretary of or the hundreds so if he has the money in the lawyers he could take it to the courts try and buy time that way it's it's we don't know which way the court's going to roll but if they rule that he can in fact have a piece of a trial then there's going to be a problem for him to his republican turnout
5:41 pm
a longer in charge of the senate members last time he was impeached they said oh we don't need to have any witnesses even though it's never been done in the history of the country before to have an impeachment trial that would this is they don't have that option now is chuck schumer will decide the process and there are going to be witnesses you see republicans saying if you do this we can't heal the country democrats are saying if we don't do this we can heal the country but keep in mind think about what might come out during the course of a trial and republicans have been still are on the record of standing with the president if it turns out that it's worse than we thought that we think. their past support is still very obvious and they have to run for reelection as for the criminals who did this they're already tracking them down there's a lot of critique of the of the police that they didn't arrest them until. and really looked like they were escorted him out of the building after giving them a casual tour those police officers the ones that you see on tape they're going to be held to account they're going to track down as many of these peoples they can they have more than 40000 tips and it's only 3 days as event i don't even know who
5:42 pm
it is it's been a good working scoop and so that's what i think i thought they said a full day's full day didn't 4 days more 1000 times or so levitra of each now going to prison. let me go to prison since i'm phyllis that people want a balanced so back america should learn a little lesson and must stop it into fema it's different countries elections there was a lot of shock and horror from overseas looking at what was happening on wednesday the crew impeachment will further to find the country terry coleman always a conspiracy come on it was all about racism on trump and he supports his spot but congress had a role when he always said this didn't just happen overnight. and no it didn't happen overnight and anyone who said that it could have seen this coming is absolutely apparently the only people not on twitter or reading newspapers we knew that the and this is what i meant by incompetence or
5:43 pm
a conspiracy. out where was the national guard i mean what the plan any ice reported during the day that there was a whole lot of capitol police officers have been everywhere i looked in the checked my badge before i got anywhere near the complex but then in retrospect you look at the plan and it was to put bicycle racks a few you know in a different places around the capitol in one of the spots that is there like 5 cabs guarding it and the new thousands of people were going to come so it just it if it's incompetent it's mind boggling these are people who handle big events and every part of the security plan was a business was a failure and so it. are you really that bad at your job or it was or something else at play i have no. obvious evidence or would be telling you about it but i think that's what they're really going to be focusing on the church to try to get to the bottom of it there's also
5:44 pm
a lot more we don't know who these people are who did this i mean lisa reporting that they found radios a 2 way communications a flash bangs they had weapons it in gym class or came out and said there's one place in the capital that has my name up and that's why start your holiday leave they were right there they didn't go into that office but he said they sent out new to go to where i usually do my work at a mark location of the church and bang on the door and trying to get my staff in there so how did they know you were jim clyburn secret as well as and i mean my bigger point is i've come to the capitol a lot over my dozen more than dozen years in washington and i've literally never once not gotten lost yesterday i got on the wrong train any issues train journey into the building and if you asked me to find speaker's office i'd have to ask 42 people before i found it's a maze like structure there so there's just so much that doesn't add up. and i'm
5:45 pm
just looking at a post that you posted. the day after the capitol building riots earn a couple police searching the grounds today after the council writes new census put up much more robust police presence threat today morgan cracked the strain and put southeast until about. an hour what do you do about that it's now that there are people that feel that they can storm the capitol building now won't he. so generous 6 they're very troubling but i think we'd be really careful about how our spot so far the dominant areas are we need a new domestic terrorism bill or need to increase the strength capitol police or we need to overcome this with unity or bipartisanship and i think all 3 of those ideas are very dangerous the last thing we need to do is increase domestic surveillance these counterterrorism measures have been terrible historically or police that already most police measure in the united states or legitimacy of this in
5:46 pm
republicans who've been encouraging this type of violence for the last 5 years. tani's is a cleansing sort as you'll piecing together what happened. when sane enough for law is what would be say all the politicians in ny state should be sinking about to the next i don't think you're going to see new domestic laws i don't need years the massive reforms through the capitol police are handled even if the top tier of law enforcement people have already been fired or to a resign or they were going to be fired you're seeing a much different capitals j people are very worried right wing media has said it's not over january 17th we're going to storm the capitol again and the capitals across the country now you see security fences up around the capitol you have thousands of national guards troops and soldiers patrolling the capital that's unsustainable and i think the question is going to be how does this pan out for donald trump he has activated should these right wing groups that his downfall they
5:47 pm
see as a call to arms if he's brought down if he's you know she's charged with crimes or make it all depends on what general trump does or does it is ok bill network and you know continue just stoke the flames of hate and bigotry we just we don't know but the most important thing i think is important i want to leave you with this is you can't fix a problem that you don't know exists and america many americans have blind to the fact that these right wing extremists search a true clear and present danger to country and after the events of one san don't think you can deny that for one more minute. kind of cool hangout a 0 interest correspondent thanks for joining us on the screen today my go from. to go from the united states to hong kong right activists recently happening rounded up by police amnesty international has something to say about that as a hook. the government of hong kong is delivering a must

a trust and had to strip people of their rights to freedom of expression and this latest crackdown is the starkest sign yet of how the new national security law is being weaponized to end any form of dissent against the establishment and one of the saddest things is the chilling effect that is having on people's right to participate in public life some of those targeted include social workers who are merely trying to help people in their communities but if there's one thing that we've seen is the resilience of the people of hong kong as their rights have been eroded so rapidly and it's essential that the world stands with them they feel it joins to screen today nathan it's good to have you how would you like to describe yourself to our international audience. and ask the state campaign for conspiracy. how would you explain the recent arrests that
5:49 pm
have been happening in hong kong what is going on. so as they have more than 50 political figures their homes are being wrecked and they are arrested under the national security law and are the reason why dick of love. is because they have participated in a primary that helps the pro-democracy camp to get the literacy in the legislature branch and the government thinks that if they get into the legislation and they will veto it and lot of the bills and budgets after all of the government are doing so in a casa today versus if it's so these people they're just trying to use their constitutional rights to hold the government accountable but it is being a brand name of threatening to national security and now they are facing messam on cannot see of life sentencing following article proceedings. nathan i'm looking at a headline he's an op ed piece he wrote just
5:50 pm
a few days ago the world must be more to fight china's crackdown in hong kong what he has done more that you're asking the world to do and what can they even do. well are. far more people in for activist campaigning for him comes through quickly more so you won't be looking for work so. trust allen to go easy on global cooperation in times of coping china's author of tarion expansion and it's really clear that this eurasian of going home car is just a sign of expansion and that aggressiveness of authoritarian nature so far as well not careful or moral sanctioning some academy in place to china and hold hands of fish else and also we need to craft a policy that all the global leaders democratic countries leaders sit again out and if they are navigate a waste do on culture that otherwise our democratic values will be happily damaged
5:51 pm

target or their friends they get a lot of confusing information but we need to build confidence in their axioms because we are all me back scenes and the only way we're going to stop the virus is a few taken if i take it and everyone we know is ready to take care we need to protect the world. got to be unstuck it's a cue to have you here introduce yourself to international audience tell them what . i write i am a yadlin news medical contributor and also the founder of a organization that deals with racial health and that what he is. we are. assuming that there is a vaccine yes to see already don't have these seen that easy for them yet yes it's absolutely a problem even here in new york city we have about 30 percent over health care workers that have declined a vaccine so these are people who have seen patients with have cared for dying
5:54 pm
patients and still are refusing the vaccine what other trend that we're seeing is that there are starting to ninety's where there are higher rates of vaccine hesitancy and one of the in particular is that model of black america that had the most highest levels of vaccine hesitancy for certain reasons. i'm just looking at a report from the world health organization they are they know that facts is an issue and this is this is how the current to rise it is sitting in your armchair you're reading a newspaper and there is a train about to come but here no i'm dissipating all that impact might be. you said to a variety of reasons why when some people wouldn't want to take a vaccine if you could prove that down what would you say it was from the circles that you are working in. well i will say that in the circle that i am working and there are there are several reasons why it is specially and why communities where
5:55 pm
seeing that there is a history and a repeat history of medical experimentation i would suggest that just simple a study where people were actually experimented on by the u.s. government but also there are groups of people color here in the u.s. who experienced ongoing discrimination when they take out health care and then i think also we saw i do presidential level political interference here in the work of our f.d.a. and our c.d.c. are our primary help organizations and the organizations that are responsible for vaccine manufacturing and distribution and so i think a lot of those are some of the reasons why we're seeing these high rates of vaccine hesitancy they really need to be combat it through extensive public health care to me that dispel a lot of the misinformation that's out there. and just looking at this pew study says it's a journalist group the can and do surveys and they surveyed americans as bush
5:56 pm
americans 62 percent are comfortable about being one of the for groups of people to get a vaccine what have you seen in terms of the time pangs out than the. out that in order to make people feel more comfortable. you know to be honest i haven't seen much and this is where we are right into a significant problem that vaccine which the bell up to very quickly by all appearances if people have concerns about that i think those concerns are just and we are months behind an extensive public health we really should be seeing advertisements and information being conveyed in a culturally responsive way on social media i don't buy this is all trains on television and we still are not seeing that and so i think part of the problem that we have is that our state and local public health departments don't have the resources and the funding to get the job done to get that campaign jive and we
5:57 pm
really need to get it out there because if people are not willing to take the vaccine that will just prolong this epidemic and no one wants that. and so he made it to twitter feed and it's this week reconfirmed to me that we goddess of leadership we still may have had the most covered 19 deaths maybe not as many but still the highest we've come full circle from the story we starting with to the story that we've ended with what do you think the next 6 months is going to look like the country 19 in the united states just right to the conductor from now i think i think the next 6 months are going to be our top that's months possible and where we are experiencing a surge but we're having a trickling out of our back scenes we're going to need federal state and local leadership to put restrictions in place to keep our public state and we're going to need buy in from the american public as well. blackstar thank you for talking to us about that hesitancy in the united states makes the also joined us earlier to talk
