rollout a winter storm sweeps through parts of the u.s. bringing record subzero temperatures traffic headaches and leaving millions in the dark. hello thanks for joining us the u.n. special envoy to me on mars warning of severe consequences if the military steps up its crackdown on demonstrations. protesters are out for an 11th day voicing their anger over this month's military coup armored vehicles on soldiers have been deployed across the country and officials cut off the internet for a 2nd night in a row but it's now been restored scott huyler's monitoring the situation from the thai capital of bangkok so scott what is happening with the protests.

that and we're seeing a similar pattern to what we have seen over the last several days in yangon in particular there are some targets that the protesters have gathered that gather that earlier in the day then kind of spread out from there there's a main intersection in downtown yang gone where protesters usually gather 1st also by city hall and then also the central bank that's been kind of a focal point over the last couple of days and what's interesting about that is the protesters are going there and they are trying to stop business as usual if you will for the operations of the government that is what they see is to be part of the issue with the military taking over the government they want to try to stop that and they want to try to stop or at least prevent them from carrying out the business of every day that the government needs to do that's why they're targeting some of these buildings now we know particularly the central bank and then other banks around the city as well and around the country so that is right now with the civil disobedience movement that these protesters are trying to slow down the
10:03 am
operations of the government by the military so that they're hoping will kind of force their hand and hear their calls that they want their democratically elected leaders 1st released and then reinstalled so that is kind of what we're seeing again but as you mentioned that in you know we have this we had for the 2nd night running a internet blackout for about 8 hours from 1 am to 9 am it was restored straight after but what's concerning is why they're doing that why the military government is doing that a lot of people think it's to kind of put a blanket over what's happening at night and a lot of abductions a lot of i should say detentions are taking place overnight so that's what's believed why that internet shut is coming we're not sure if it's going to happen again this evening it's kind of got it has been going the last few days so far and scott we do expect the military to be speaking shortly at least an official from the military that is what can we expect. yet we're hearing that they'll be a press conference within the next 30 minutes now this will be the 1st official
10:04 am
military press conference since the coup since that announcement of the coup we don't really know what's going to what they're going to say what's going to take place obviously they will address the protest movement the civil disobedience movement in some way you know they've issued statements and rules and laws about how they are going about they the military are going about dealing with these protests across the country but this is going to be the 1st press conference we're also hearing that this is going to take place in the capital neighborhood or we're also hearing that local journalists from myanmar in they put or in the capital are going to boycott that because they don't recognize the military as the official government of the country so they're going to boycott it but obviously we'll monitor that particular because we anticipate there to be some pretty major announcements within that because again this is the 1st press conference that the military government is holding since the announcement of the coup all right scott we'll check in with you a little later thank you so much for that update from bangkok on the situation i'm

in mar well men's hour is the executive director at the me and more institute for peace and security and he says targeting financial institutions could test the government's tolerance for street demonstrations. right now and the government and the protests are still in a position that could protest a trying to shut down the government functions and. at least at the private banks so they conceded that shutting down the financial industry would actually force the government to halt the functions and the government it's also. trying to demonstrate testily that they may tolerate the street protests but if the protest. try to occupy those buildings or prevent. a walk us from coming to walk they may take actions so that these was the source of confrontation we saw yesterday so we have to see

how the the authorities face off with the protest what trying to prevent financial institution from running today and international support definitely reinforce and encourage people determination but on the other hand many xperience activists know the international support is quite limited to myanmar so. don't people in the long around they have to stand on the old do face off the government and so that kind of confrontation go on at least 'd for the some of the low intensity in the long run. u.s. house speaker nancy pelosi has announced plans to form an independent commission to investigate last month's assault on capitol hill she says it will be modeled on the

and turkey has already brought snow throughout greece's goes from north to south this is what we're looking at at the moment now it's not unique it does happen in most winters this is quite a severe outbreak and it will i think probably just storm development in the south here so that's fairly nasty weather for both egypt the levant and turkey and of course east until he gets really covered in snow but it's wind and rain for an event and for northern egypt. there was a lot of there in this community and that is where we lived on the way when they were going to look for to get all the while making what up when this is our own men she worked with local women to solve the main problem plaguing their communities was not always a key problem action plan had the water as a priority and led the way in transforming into coty into a success so empowering all one to me is standing economy. and women make change
