organizations do have some access to some of the people they say they need to help in some areas but they say that that access is inadequate just a few days ago the un's office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs was saying that the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate they say about a 1000000 people are in need of food support provino some to shiny is a spokeswoman for the un human rights are face she says they need to be accountability from the field and government. we as well as several other organizations have managed to establish you know through corroborating information that eritrean troops have indeed been involved in many of the most severe violations of human rights that have taken place on the ground including extra judicial killings on the ground right now unfortunately there are no independent human rights monitors the high commissioner for human rights has been pushing for

independent access for us for the un human rights office to the to gray region so that we are able to carry out an objective assessment of the facts on the ground failing that all we are seeing is very serious allegations and reports and blanket denials and finger pointing on all sides seen reports of quite a strong case is quite a quite a lot of cases of sexual and gender based violence we haven't we've received reports of some 136 cases of rape that have been reported but of course you as you may be aware in cases of sexual violence the number of figures that are actually reported tend to be the tip of the iceberg because many of these cases do not go reported we're also seeing door to door searches of individuals we are seeing continued killings and continued fighting is in many parts of to agree what we are seeing so far is that there is limited access humanitarian organizations need to be

able to establish that the aid is actually reaching those who need it most human rights organizations need to be able to establish the facts on the ground to be able to help towards accountability for these violations. to senegal now where supporters of the leading opposition figure go has been fighting with police in the capital the car they've been demanding his release after sancho was arrested for taking part in an unauthorized rally he was due to appear in court to face a rape charge that he denies and says is politically motivated and speak to our correspondent in the car nicholas hock and make the there were some tense scenes earlier in the contest about the situation right now have things calmed down a bit. still very much the same here this is one of the major arteries of the capital the road called shaken to jump and look right behind me police and gears still in front of the university and in the distance protesters throwing rocks this is true on this side as well as behind me there today since

so. stand by. the police are still charging here behind me i'm sorry fully response on cocaine 3rd in the presidential election he's seen as the political outsider giving voice to the voiceless and he's very popular among young people specifically those that you see inside the university and that have been badly affected by a year of pandemic and restrictions imposed by the government and so that's why you have so many young people that support him he's also been very outspoken in regards to the level of corruption he sees in the government accusing the for instance the brother of the president of corruption corruption around the contracts of oil and gas and so we've seen since the arrest it was months on that his supporters have targeted specifically french companies like a supermarket chain or the gas station total that have been burned down through the

night that's because some court has been quite vocal about this relationship that he accuses the government to have with france the former colonial power and also french companies but there's also behind all of this are people who are just frustrated with this year where there has been such restrictions put on to them public gatherings have been banned people here most of them live on the day to day business basis earning 2 dollars a day with the restrictions put in place they haven't been able to go out and earn a living so there's a lot of pent up frustration towards the government and there's a sense for the protestors that they're not being heard or represented by the government and so the demonstrators that we spoke to say they'll continue this protest movement they'll continue rioting in till we sponsor is freed and until their voices are heard fully nicholas thank you very much for that nick hockey's our correspondent into costs and. in myanmar protesters were back on the streets

temperature of discourse within the united states again it's comes as no surprise that this request has been made for the troops to remain here longer of course their presence though not likely to be something that's permanent they're still sort of the bandage the banded aid solution to this given that there has been obvious focus on the need for more permanent security measures around the u.s. capitol with a draft report on how to do that pending now that will soon be delivered to congress some of the ideas being suggested are hiring some 2000 more capitol police officers to guard this complex as well as lawmakers offices across the country as well as a smaller but very localized force of national guard troops who have you be part of a rapid response team that could almost instantly take into action whenever a new threat is assessed tell us about the atmosphere around the capital today

heidi and do you get a sense that this heightened sense of security is going to be the new a normal now. right well today march 4th in the original us constitution was supposed to be when the president is inaugurated that was done away with 88 years ago and now you're a should move to january but the extremists among the supporters have seized on today's date as again another a last hope in their eyes of donald trump returning to washington and returning to the white house that is obviously a conspiracy theory nowhere at all rooted in fact trump is still in florida likely on his golf course for the day but that is part of the the lore that has been feeding the extremist chatter which led to that intelligence report that there was a far right extremist militia group that had been planning to breach the capitol
8:15 pm
today well it's already past midday here in washington and there has been no indication of any sort of street protest whatsoever but of course the security forces here are not taking any chances after obviously being caught so flat footed 2 months ago and that's why you're seeing this increased security presence also lawmakers in the state capitol they rush through their business late last night in order to have everything done and not have to be in session today although house speaker nancy pelosi the top democrat in the house said earlier today that the reason they moved this timeline wasn't to just because of the thread she certainly didn't want to give encouragement she said to the trouble makers who may have thought they could change the scheduling of u.s. government business she said it was also a matter of expediency in order to have the republicans move forward to their virtual conference but as to whether or not this is the new norm it certainly is as far as the heightened security posturing whether or not you'll continue to see then

last month for that 3 month window that suspension of those additional protocols which restricted some of the. actions inside iran the parliament has said that the president hasn't rouhani had acted illegally and wanted to refer the matter to the judiciary and that situation is only calmed down when it emerged that from the highest levels inside iran meaning the supreme leader ayatollah khamenei had actually given a green light for that so the reformists led by president hassan rouhani will use this as a victory a diplomatic victory but the conservatives will say the deal only reason the europeans back down was because of fear of retaliatory action by iran because if that motion had been passed president hasn't rouhani feared that the parliament may say that 3 month deal with the i.a.e.a. would no longer be on the table which would make any further diplomatic talks very very difficult to moving away from each other but iran is still adamant that any

both of course part of the united kingdom there are many however in the european union and indeed here in ireland who suspect that perhaps this is something political that this is hungering to elements within the british conservative party and the g.d.p. in northern ireland who are on hockey with this northern ireland protocol which is a part of the the whole agreement that breaks that agreement and i think it's the fact that this is only expected that this was on herald it's i think the economy herm's that you are managing the european union indeed an art and that is a johnson that government does is an unpredictable government it's a moderate government and it's one that cannot be trusted to keep the commitments that it enters into you know reification of our and is now a talking point in a way that it was never before greg said and there is an argument there the logic of united ireland has much greater force now whole sprague's and not art and as an economic unit it's something that's accepted in the india with all that being that there can't be a hoarder our border 'd and you are structural border 'd between north and south
