the capital jakarta eyewitness testimony there from the location but what are the authorities saying jessica about this attack. well so we have heard from indonesian authorities just in the recent hours speaking out about this horrific attack which happened on palm sunday an important day for christians around the world we recently heard from the president of indonesia joker widodo who said that he condemns this attack and that all religious teachings rejects this kind of violence he's urged the public to remain calm and said that indonesia does protect all individuals and gives people the freedom to worship peacefully now he has called on every indonesian to work together to fight terrorism in this country we've also heard from the minister of religion who has reiterated the importance of moderate religion of peaceful teachings and also

called on security to security forces to increase the efforts around places of worship not just churches but places of worship generally we have heard from indonesia's national counterterrorism agency which has declared this to be an act of terrorism we don't yet know what has motivated the 2 attackers and we also don't know whether they belong to a particular network the investigation into that matter is still continuing and of course just a guest on al-jazeera that we spoke to sort of talked about the fact that the authorities have increased security around places of worship for minority groups as the years have progressed there have been successive attacks on various groups what's your understanding of the sort of security process and protection for minority groups at the moment. well so hell if we were having this conversation 10 or 15 years ago it would be a very different matter but the reality is is that security forces indonesian

authorities have been very successful in improving the security situation in indonesia not just around places of worship not just protecting religious minorities but indonesia in general we have seen this concerted concerted effort carried out by security forces by the police as well against this handful of active militant organizations within indonesia to the extent that now for the most part when these attacks do happen they happen on a small scale with a low number of casualties and often more often than not the fatalities a limited to the bombers themselves that doesn't mean the threat is completely at 0 the threat does still exist it does however mean that often we see that the police or security forces themselves have sort of become the number one target for these organizations so what we don't yet know in terms of this attack was whether this attack was in retaliation in response to the recent arrests that have been made of
12:05 pm
some members of militant organizations what we do know is that as the security situation has improved the security situation has improved in part because of the arrests because the of the active role of security forces and that has really sort of dampen down on the power of these groups because some of the expertise in terms of people who may have been involved in planning these attacks or bomb making some of the pin those people are already arrested or behind bars what that means is that these groups are mostly limited to small scale attacks within communities with a low number of casualties now it doesn't mean that there is no threat for indonesia but for the most part it does seem unlikely that there would be further attacks on churches in this east to seasonal for the major attacks but it is something we'll have to continue to monitor. washington for us because. the pressure is building on me a mars militant a global condemnation grows over its crackdown on anti q.

protesters saturday was the bloodiest day since the army seized power nearly 2 months ago with reports of at least 114 people being killed military chiefs from the u.s. and many other allies issued a rare joint statement denouncing the amounts of forces saying there should be protecting and not harming the people teaching has the latest from bangkok in neighboring thailand. there's no hiding the soldiers in between the police anymore they're just coming out there's no hiding the automatic weapons in amongst the rubber bullets and those rifles they're just firing indiscriminately we saw that out on the streets yesterday the funerals and now starting to take place all across . we've seen the mat in mandalay. and this i think is an opportunity for people to come out and show some sort of protest a lot of the street protests haven't been taking place there because people are planning to attend those funerals the security services as i understand it so far
12:07 pm
have backed off and that's something they have done in the last couple of weeks let those funerals go ahead ended but there are also people waking up to massive destruction in mandalay overnight there was a huge fire in the p.g. township which destroyed 60 homes and people were trying to get in there to put these fires out and we're being fired on by the security security services now people are trying to collect medicine food basic bedding clothing and shelter for those people they still can't get there because the security services are in the way and they're scared of going out into the streets again and i think that's an indication of how desperate the situation is getting and how bleak the outlook is for at least the next couple of weeks inside myanmar. but doctors are so was appointed as me a special envoy to the u.n. by the disbanded parliament he walls of the international community fails to intervene because plunged into

well communication has been down for a few days so getting information from my that we can independently verify it isn't easy but what we know so far from official sources is that the attack happened when they are to noon armed groups into the town from different directions they targeted a bank of business center and indeed also targeted some kind of army post or police post people in the town ran away into the bush people in a neighboring village also ran into neighboring worst ones and we can give them some foreigners were holed up in a hotel there in part we've been told that some of them have been evacuated to pay back the provincial capital the attack happened just hours after the french capital trial and now it's resuming operations in the area thank you will think the attack could have something to do with that but the another theory relatively quiet in that area for a while there was a charm for humanitarian workers to finally bring in food and medicine into the

area through the is a theory that the armed groups the insurgents are possibly targeting those supplies as well and of course one wonders what sort of assistance the mozambican authorities are getting to fight these insurgency it's quite a remote part of the country. the is the place very very remote the south african government has fear that some of its citizens are stranded in the area of the beach that started in the embassy in matthew termers and his capital and the plan is to try and reach out to anyone who still trapped in that area the united states that is going to send special forces to train the mozambican on the portugal the former colonial power has committed to changing the minds and beacons there are reports that south africa is also training people in the mozambican army there's also reports of private armies operating in that area they need god's gas installations some of them are from south africa and there are reports that been evacuating people from that hotel to locations when it comes to

the region 7 as you got what are leaders in this village and doing about the problem in my eyes i'm beginning to have meetings on and off virtually or in person waiting to see if there is a plan to help mozambique but they haven't said what that plan is going to be so people are speculating that that figure is a big economy in the region people assume it has equipment if there is a military intervention they could go in and some countries in the region could help them also with that process humanitarian workers are now concerned they saying that any military intervention of course is going to take people on the ground and they say do we know that some of those people from part my neighboring areas are trying to get here towards paying back the eventual capital they will get some assistance from aid workers and government officials and because the place is now getting very very crowded the government are going big and humanitarian workers are trying to move some of these people to think the areas in the country which also in harare thank you for the update. well still ahead here on how does there

a global pandemic for most states in the u.s. these are familiar scenes but in florida it's a different picture there have been no statewide code restrictions for more than 6 months with restaurants and beaches open at full capacity republican governor ronda santa says his decisions which critics accuse of flying in the face of science based advice were right we actually have people opening new businesses here we actually have people hiring people our employment rates much less than the national average in way less than a lot of the walk down states like california new york today though we did we can build off this momentum that momentum is obvious in places like miami where tech finance companies and restaurants and relocating unemployment here is also lower than states like new york and california but encouraging people to come to florida has consequences oh. the authorities in miami beach put a curfew in place after thousands of revelers many masculists flocked to beaches
