by the thai fire foreign minister. that in well this is directly related to what happened over the last couple of days particularly this past weekend that's where myanmar army military carried out air strikes in some territory held by the korean ethnic army and this is something we haven't seen for about 20 years or more so what it happened is that obviously injured people that had to seek medical attention and they came across the border into thailand but also about 3000 initially 3000 people fled across seeking safety there is a difference of opinion of exactly what happened as some human rights group says that thai authorities pushed about 2000 of those people right straight back across the border into myanmar the thai government here said no they went back because it was safe but what we do know is over 200 people are here still getting medical attention by thai authorities right along the border there obviously you know this

is this is a distinct case of violence going on in myanmar that can be related to the coup you know they have been these ethnic army conflicts with the central military for decades but this is definitely related to a spike of what's been happening since the coup that now has flowed across the border so it's bringing in a regional neighbor and as we heard that statement from the spokes person books been from the foreign ministry that those are the strongest words we've heard yet from the administration here in tallinn on what's going on next door and scott what do we know of the fate of. right now there was there was another. court hearing those connected via monitors t.v.'s for her several cases going against her we heard from her legal team that said at the end of today's hearing there were no additional charges put on song

training how is it going to impact the situation on the ground. thank you for having me. i think the 1st. important to say that. i think the decision of the people making to train with ethnic groups if you see in their annual report. this is a culmination of 2 months of brutal crackdown by the burmese military in a moment a tree against civilians so it's not necessarily unexpected development but it is concerning and i think the impacts are. are great in the sense not just in terms of whether the civil disobedience movement and protesters may start seeking to turn to more extreme methods to resist the coup but also what we're seeing there and what you are sharing in your reports there is this sort of extension of the fighting out into the ethnic areas and you've seen that the sort of defacto or parallel government under the name of the c.r.

ph is constitution and it's really trying to seek to bring in the ethnic groups that have long had these longstanding tensions some cease fire agreements and they've all lapsed actually over the last few weeks so there's concern that as has been raised already that this may escalate and they will see increased fighting and that's going in in the ethnic areas but it's also going to have a severe impact on the safety and security of the of the wider population yes so so how do you expect the military then to to react or what will be what will the military do next. it's hard to say the military they announced a cease fire actually just a day or 2 ago saying that they wanted to ensure that there was a cease fire across the country as a unilateral ceasefire but those airstrikes as we've seen in korean territory the current national union really is is it's a sign from the tatmadaw that they're trying to send a signal that they are not going to sit back and allow the ethnic groups to form

some kind of alliance against them and the concern is that we'll see ground troops another kind of offensive potentially. large scale fighting in some of the ethnic areas and we've already seen the use of the use of air strikes this is an escalation from the military side the concern i think for the military will be that they could see themselves opened up on many different fronts and that is really is not just a concern as you say for the military but also for the entire populations i said before so there are a very deep concerns i think the military may not have predicted such a unified potentially unified response against the top model and this crew is this going to then spur the international community to do more about the situation in myanmar i mean we heard from the u.n. special envoy he's urging the security council to consider potentially significant action how likely is that. i mean that significant action should have been

taken already to be honest with you there has been a clear writing on the wall that this situation is continuing to deteriorate the violation is that we've seen committed by the military since seizing power on february 1st and these are. crimes against humanity we've seen killings torture mass arrests indiscriminate killings extradition to extrajudicial killings of innocent civilians the u.n. security council has spent again this week and it's again failed to take that significant action the concerns i would say that if they and you know echoing the u.n. special envoys remarks that this situation does continue to threaten to escalate unless more significant action has been taken we've seen veto powers or you know vetoes haven't been forced yet within the security council what we are aware that china and russia are preventing a kind of consensus for a global arms embargo for example or unified international sanctions and other
