what we were going to do next because. determining what the patient's condition was . so i was kind of waiting for him to go check on the patient and then know what to do next and that might in time when you were standing outside near partnerless approaching the patient did you see a struggle of any kind going on any movement anything like that. so after your part your partner. first questioned you see what he was doing. you checked the polls. on his no crowded polls and also if you checked people's and did you. discuss with your partner at that point next that. he walked towards me and. asked. is he
7:31 pm
a critic or us he said i think so. so use the word cardiac arrest what does that. mean it's a term or a use for anybody the response is not breathing. and doesn't have a pulse currently. so essentially does that mean that someone's heart stops. are there. multiple things that can cause someone's heart to stop. so when you say cardiac arrest you're dealing with a patient who's heart stops that's not an emergency ok so what if you guys knowing that you had an individual. but if you decide to do. so we. should get him in the truck. unloaded our stretcher to bring to the patient to. place him in the ambulance.
7:32 pm
and. what were you what was the reason for getting him into the track you know all of our equipment at that point was in the truck for resuscitating patient and. we also didn't have mantles fire there yet which there. they work with us. critical patients like that and so kind of for resource manager when you get in the truck and then on top of it there was also a crowd of people that were. very upset on the sidewalk and there were some yelling and stuff and we in my mind at least we also want to get away from that because running a cardiac arrest it takes a lot of mental power and focus and. you know. it can be taxing our abilities so we want to. do that in the optimum environment we can and since they have concentrate
7:33 pm
there we want to be in control space to service us taishan and was part of your reason to move as you described to give the best care you could that you could be focused on away from whatever distractions were happening outside. and. you start hearing people you know. yelling or loud voices but was anybody was there a physical fight or anything like that happening while you were there. but you decided it would be best for the patient to move to a controlled setting and do your work on the every oncet that right. quick was there and he also mentioned fire tell me why it's important to have fire assists in a situation like this those just a lot of different skills we're going to be doing on a patient to try to resuscitate them and we work closely with minneapolis fire all the mts. and they. work with us resuscitating patient doing things
7:34 pm
like grieving for them with the. help patient breathe or do chest compressions stuff with someone to break down some of the things he said he used the word the term b.v.m. i'm sorry. it's a it's a thing you squeeze to provide for your patient essentially. with rest well if someone's not breathing it's not a part of the process to try to resuscitate respiration yes all right we're using the word fire i swear i'm at the minneapolis fire department and. a lot of people's minds the fire department fights fires that you're describing there are so you know so is it typical for them to assist you with a patient who's an extreme distress or a cardiac arrest or something like that yes it is and you said that there's a lot of work to do you know if you could just explain a little bit for the jury why it takes so many people you know what's the process that you typically go through when you're trying to resuscitate
7:35 pm
a cent in that state. you're doing things like chest compressions. hopefully circulate blood through the body and. you also need to control the airway solution for some sort some sort of airway as to be a place you have to breathe for them. when you gain. access to we're going to hear some things we can give medications to try to resuscitate them as well as our cardiac monitor. which is going to be monitoring a couple different things but mainly their heart rhythm. and to do all those things at the same time i see we need more than one person at least you know it's just. the more help you have you can get it done quicker and. kind of running you know once you have everything established you can run much another but the initial part is hopeful having research and.
7:36 pm
i'm going to just back you up to when you got on the sea and that 1st initial interaction you. like to play a clip from it's already. exhibit 47 and we're just going to play a clip from. 202730 fact 202945. i think that. there are more right. now.
7:37 pm
oh my goodness. there are a lot of right of the road. oh . oh oh. oh. oh. oh. oh oh i better.
7:38 pm
make it back. or you. know what i was right with. my boss over there. whatever help their fellow. going. all right so we can take that down so just to kind of walk through fact the beginning of that clip
7:39 pm
there was an individual. with the hat bending down over the head of mr flynt was that you or your partner are going to work and what's your partner's name. and what's his last name. and what do you initially at the beginning and. mr smith bending down over and. over mr flight was that the point in time when he was checking for a pulse and he falls the distract yes. and. you may have been out of the frame for that but were you what were you doing while that was going on i was at the back of a mule and. i was standing of the evidence and while your partner was checking for a pulse and tekken peoples for the officer on top of. that process that's going on. i'm just going to show you a different clip with
7:40 pm
a different view of within that time frame we're going to publish that's already been admitted as exhibit 15 but just a short clip from there. which would be 640 fact 2829 if we could publish that please. are you. really. are you going to go you want to go keep. going to make a bridge road when. 2
7:41 pm
you're going to go to. oh i just read it and i hold nothing else you know i tried one like i don't hear from martin he doesn't he's not available they don't hammer oh well you got to sit there with your me on the metro i know bro you know grow be a real man for that bro being here when you know the great white man and i don't like god no i don't mean i'm right that's right i'm looking at making robots i'm seeing guys are exactly what they are doing. you know what i have got not to be anymore. i'm never touched i don't know man. down so at the end of that clip there's another individual without a hat and the head of mr floyd and with that you in that position at the end you
7:42 pm
know. you are seen bending down over mr flint and there is a gesture made with your hand what were you attempting to do at that point in time . it was for move and. again at that did you have a conversation at that point with there what was the intent behind that. i don't recall i said you're not sure and why did you need the officer to move so we could move. and then were you continuing to assess on the head side of mr flagg while the patient mr ford was moves you know . i believe there is a clip in there where you were holding your hands near his head what were you trying to do there was trying to keep it from. room over and. how would you describe the way that. that mr flood was moved.
7:43 pm
to the stretcher. or do you or do you as a very good question are. you trying to keep his head from slamming into the pavement why is that because you use. his little preview post for fuel when. you understand something wasn't holding it up or anything like that and were you trying to protect his head. ok. 'd all right so what happened next we saw the initial clip where mr feit was loaded up onto ambulance. at officer come with you yes and what was the purpose of the bat. to do just compressions for us and that's part about the reason you described in terms of having you need more
7:44 pm
people to work on a patient in this case in this situation yes. so what did. what did you do at that point in time. where you can see in the video my partner and i had a brief discussion that we're going to move couple walks away and we haven't the reasons you described earlier yes. dave you. ultimately go to another location you know what. drove the ambulance and went to 36 park. and i am going to show just you know i'm not the jury an exhibit that has not yet been. admitted but if you could just what exhibit 60. i'm sorry it's 73. all right so you should see in front of you
7:45 pm
a map. is that here in front of you. and does that. show a map of the area where you were. on may 25th 2020. and doesn't show up foods and sort of where the ambulance ultimately parked for a period of time to render assistance yes your honor i'd offer exhibit 73. 73 is received and we've asked permission to publish that to the jury. now that's up on the screen and if you could just describe. where you went and how you got there. well. 38 and park your. if you could just describe you had to talk about the reason to move but why did you need to stop.
7:46 pm
to. like i said it's resource intensive for doing or so station so. i need to be in back to work with my programmers just getting this report. and. i thought when you were it was just the 2 of you plus this officer is that right. and did your partner need your assistance to you. to perform those resuscitative efforts yes so what. did you ultimately park and then go back to the system the back of the ambulance. and what was going on when you were when you got back there. care remember everything that was going out that exact moment when i walked in the evidence but. let's start with i mean had his condition had mr floyd's condition improved had he
7:47 pm
gotten better know. a room or walking in and the cardiac monitor. was showing the system so so to stop you there because that's a word that. people know what's what is excessively. flat line so it's monitoring your cardio. electrical activity just like flatliners most person friendly turbot. it's because your heart isn't really doing anything that moves this essentially no activity in our lives so when you kind of came back and saw that. monitor sharing system. what's the significance of that just in terms of the condition. it's not a good sign for. success for dissociation and is that. can explain why why it's fact. because your heart
7:48 pm
isn't doing anything at that moment. there's not much. it's not pumping but it's not it's not a good sign for a good outcome. so what do you do. noticing that he is in a system in obviously your partner had been working on him while you were driving is that right yes so how did you join in those efforts. a couple different thing. we're trying to getting him placed on a device which does chest compressions you just saw her sexy you can explain what the lupus device is and how it works it's a device over there. that has a plunger but does compressions. for us to. do drugs and just compressions to circulate. that might.
7:49 pm
put on the screen what's already been admitted as c exhibit 62. seconds at $62.00 is on the screen. can you just describe what's here and what. you're doing. there's a there's a back door that goes behind the patient and it has to. click and connect to it in order to work. it up and it is that part of the lucas stuff i guess yes so when you say back or maybe you can use your status or your finger to just circle or point like you're talking about. your room it's a piece there of support it goes across the back. and to set it up. position in a certain way is that right yes. so you are still not getting that. set out as
7:50 pm
the other hands here the other officer who was. on the ambulance with you at that time. and then the other person behind you is that your partner mr you know. ok you know move to exhibit 63. which has already been taken. ok so once you get to with this device going i mean just describe what is it what is it do you how does it is this you in this process. in providing compression socks or you know how those of the systems are much of a treat well is it done sort of as a way to. replace or make it so that handset works not mechanics of the machine but just what you see happening when you see somebody on a lucas device. plunder. root root on his chest. that goes up and down and does the compression. so
7:51 pm
as it. does it also free out your hands to do other things while there are compressions given by the machine yes. after the look is device is that before we actually find that me did you notice injuries on mr clay as you were. working on him. really examining about the time for injuries but. i noticed some blood near his mouth. where there were those your primary concern. and why is that. you just. look like a minor in injury and it's not really concerned and worried about substituting at that point he did have a heart beat yes ok. so now in this picture in 63. which one of these individuals are you is. the one your. patient ok so
7:52 pm
what are you doing there. placing an. airway device. and what is an area where when you face and what is it do you. place on their mouth that goes near the opening to their trachea. means you can use that. to breathe form. generally from. and why is that important to. what your doing. it's a part of securing their way to make sure. we're clear before vomit or anything doesn't end up in their lungs and also deliver oxygen and. ventilate affectively and that's why i said that you're doing this because he's not breathing yes.
7:53 pm
meaning no risk restorations are happening for him so you're trying to use your equipment to do that yes ok. so did you ultimately. let's not should have been 64. which has already been ended. so were you ultimately able to place that airway. yes. and there's this exhibit 64 is that part of the process that you're working on that with respect to mr foy it's head and face area. yes. and and your partner. what's he doing at that point in time. he is working on getting i.v.'s. and you talked a little bit about i.v. access before but what was the purpose of getting i.v. access. for his treatment for mr. to administer medications
7:54 pm
and what were the medications that were administered mystify. of them that we were given. well what are the i don't know if this is a lot less that what were your primary what was the primary purpose what were you trying to get him. to 1st line medication when somebody is encouraging arrest so did you get him. and why is that when you say it's a 1st time for her to caress what is it. helps to research her. so there might just be a little pause in proceedings here is the attorneys speak to the judge using their headsets and microphones of course in covert times now approaching the bench with plexiglas and social distancing involved so just
7:55 pm
a small pause there in this 4th day of dirt showdowns trial for the murder of george floyd and we've been hearing from seth brad and a paramedic who came to the scene outside the cup food store in minneapolis. and just to run through some of what he said he said that he assumed there was potentially a struggle because they the police officers were still on top of them george floyd this is when he arrived. but we're going back. at the end of that. all right so getting back to. the the the treatment we're talking about that friend and why you give that. you said that's something you can rephrase and repeat what you said just so i. it's at the point it's something i already have a job for you to start working again and is that. one of the things that you do is
7:56 pm
sort of standard practice with a cardiac arrest yes and you also get sodium bicarbonate as one of the art treatment. options for for a cardiac arrest as well and as that. does not provide assistance if there's downtime or some extended period of time without a pulse. i can receive the records why do you get stuck in my car and. this training that i was given with. acidosis and what is acidosis. so your ph d. would be low. and there's many different things that can be causing. what is a bad to have ph. and to the details on an
7:57 pm
expert but training to be. correct and as i said us is something that can be. things like hypoxia. when you talk about this what are you trying to treat in the moment what are you. what are you dealing with. giving. her to. condition 1st. and in terms of your work as a paramedic when you come up on somebody whose heart has stopped or is in cardiac arrest is giving medications like. heart of that sort of standard treatment plan for you. and.
7:58 pm
i believe we just took down 64. we're going to just put up example at $65.00. ok maybe we can just go back to 64 just for a 2nd because i'm not quite sure which is that i had it on there i believe we had 64 outlets enough to 65. ok and again. could you just describe but what you're doing at this moment in exhibit 65. i'm working on securing the. device. right hand there the blue thing is a. to put in the patient's mouth to keep the airway device in place. and while you're working on. the airway is your partner working on the i.v.
7:59 pm
. was that for purposes of administering the medications be just. ok we can take that down. at some point did. the minneapolis fire department. to assess us and. what was mr flight's condition and when and they are. saying. it had improved is that right. ok what did you do when the fire. how many firefighters. i don't really remember for sure how many were in the back of. it was 2 or perception and did your all change at that point when the firefighters arrived what
8:00 pm
did you do. but at the point i started working on. getting it working. and. was there sort of a switch of jobs when the firefighters came and. yes at some point the officer stopped moved to near where he was sitting so when the firefighters came did you feel like there were enough people to. do what you needed to do for mr foote in order to get him or even to go. so he said the officer stepped up. did one of the firefighters take over with respect to what you were working on the airway that there was a stove or.
