protesters and some journalists are injured as israel intensifies its crackdown ahead of a planned jewish nationalist march also in the news iran condemns an attack on its consulate in the iraqi city of karbala after protests to set it on fire over the killing of a prominent activist and a report from sudan on how people smuggling has only flourished since the conflict broke out in neighboring ethiopia. and in sports japanese tennis star says she feels conflicted about the tokyo olympics going head 2nd making the comments as olympic president thomas back is forced to cancel a trip to the country. it's a little after 1 pm in occupied east jerusalem where al aqsa mosque compound islam's 3rd holiest site is the scene of a violent israeli crackdown on palestinians will start with these pictures this. is
1:02 pm
inside the mosque as israeli forces fired rubber coated steel bullets tear gas and sound bombs at palestinian worshipers. and that is actually the 2nd time that so israeli forces of storm. since last week then we take you outside these pictures from in and around the compound which actually houses the malls once again the israeli forces targeting palestinian protesters who were standing guard tensions running high ahead of a planned march later on monday by right wing israeli nationalists and events they call jerusalem day. what we've heard from the palestinian red crescent this morning that says more than 270 people have been injured and that even their team is being prevented from
1:03 pm
reaching the compound with aid at least 80 people taken to hospital as well so here's our team covering the story will be with made it bring him in the occupied west bank shortly ramallah for some reaction for the palestinians but starting with harry force that harry 1st of all tell us exactly where you are and well i guess explain the situation now which looks quiet behind you. we as we're in damascus gates the manes muslim quarter entrance to the old city here in occupied east jerusalem it is where traditionally on this jerusalem days it's known to israeli jews they would come or is nationalist used to sit to access the muslim quarter dance wave flags chant and sing at the moment we don't have any indication that that is going to take place right here indeed there are discussions we we understand have been underway for inside the security establishment the defense minister about potentially changing the route but let's focus for
1:04 pm
a moment on what's been taking place inside the mosque compound since around 730 local time this morning extremely concerning images of israeli security forces on mass inside the compound again very been images of people being detained and deacon as they are detained people injured in the leg. and the shake up point of it all is under dispute israeli officials the israeli government police say that it was triggered by rock throwing that they showed images of rocks and fire crackers being stored inside the l.x. a mosque overnight thousands of people did sleep inside the compound overnight that is not atypical at this period of ramadan. and what an eyewitness to the early events and activists told us that they saw israeli forces mounting on the walls
1:05 pm
with weapons and that they fired rubber bullets rubber coated steel bullets very early in the proceedings and that led to the the wider clashes that we saw on the ground inside the compound in the some time afterwards we've seen evidence of injuries to the face to the eyes journalists injured and as you say the person. red crescent society saying 5 its own medics are critically injured by what took place this morning so at this point harry right now does anyone have access to the mosque itself or is that been effectively sealed off. well it's it's a changing situation it was effectively sealed off for a considerable amount of time then the security forces withdrew at least one of the gates was reopened and we saw images of people filtering back inside at that point it seems that people had been sheltering inside the mosque a lot of people who were involved earlier then came back out into the courtyard and
1:06 pm
again started chanting and then there was another briefer phase of the these security forces coming back in and those violent scenes renewing perhaps on a slightly lower level than before it's also worth pointing to the kind of things that we've been seeing just outside the compound itself there was a video of a car being driven by a jewish man in occupied east jerusalem near to lion's gate he appeared to come under assault by stone throwing youths in the area of the car then swerved very fast very violently in the direction of one of those men and hit him pushed him back a long way very violently and then there were more stones thrown into the open doors it seemed that there was a gun fired into the air these are the sorts of things that if they go differently if if either the palestinian man had been killed in the impact or indeed if that jewish man had been hit fatally or dragged out of the car before security forces
1:07 pm
intervened if either of those things that happened that's the kind of thing that can really trigger a much broader conflagration so on these tiny instances at these very very tense times a lot else rests here ok thank you for all of that harry for said as he says that damascus gate there in occupied east jerusalem over to ramallah now occupied west bank needed abraham reaction from the palestinians who want some sort of u.n. intervention. there has been nephew's spontaneous protests across different cities in the occupied west bank and there has been more calls from palestinians to protest to day to go even to confrontation points with the israeli army some of those. one checkpoint one military is ready checkpoint that is near the scene behind us here in ramallah a couple of people chanting slogans demanding freedom for jerusalem. families
1:08 pm
all and all palestinians in occupied east jerusalem and i don't know if you can hear behind me i'm hearing chants from palestinians who are gathering now at the menorah square and chanting slogans as you know many palestinians cannot access occupied east jerusalem at the surrounded by israeli military checkpoints and they need to have his way the permits to be able to access and not many palestinians can do that so for them it's important to show their support and boy is that their point of view that they are with the palestinians in israel sort of even though they can't be with their with the physic. that's needed abraham reporting from ramallah in the occupied west bank thank you need. so let's go to the people here as you will have heard earlier one of the issues behind the recent unrest is actually a long running legal case it centers on whether several palestinian families will be forcibly evicted from their homes in occupied east jerusalem specifically the
1:09 pm
shaikh neighborhood this would be to make way for israeli settlers international pressure is mounting on israel the organization of islamic cooperation says it's appalled by the brutality of the force used against palestinian protesters the u.n. security council will meet to discuss developments later on monday. well the ruling to force out palestinian families from their homes in follows decades of land disputes in 956 dozens of palestinian families settled into the neighborhood they were among hundreds of thousands of people who were expelled from palestinian towns in the war 948 you will hear this referred to as the not about the catastrophe well about a decade later the families agreed to a deal with the jordanian government that would make them the owners of the land but that deal was cut short when jordan lost control of the land after israel annexed it this is now $967.00 there have been a series of court cases which are favored the expansion of israeli settlements as
1:10 pm
the area turned into a focal point of protests against the land takeover so we're going to talk about those joining us from occupied east jerusalem mohamad the who is the founder of muhammad the and associates nice to have you with us take us through the current position the concern was that there would be more. forced evictions but there has been a pause i understand as we wait to hear potentially from the israeli attorney general . yes as you know there are there were actually rulings by israeli courts victor seen and families some of those rulings as a matter of fact. in the past 2 to 4 palestinian families were actually addicted from the neighborhood this time after the suitings the policy on time is a key to the sale of supreme court as the court of appeal and trial to the last date in which that hearing was supposed to be conducted and israeli attorney
1:11 pm
general based on that of course the city government asked to join these proceedings before the israeli court although it's 7 so to speak between the butt of c.n.n. families and the jewish secular organizations that the new general decided to join the proceeding because he thinks there is a public interest issue in this matter and the public interest issue of course is that is the events that are happening on the ground with all that popular support that the families are getting from palestinians look at me and from the international community via social media and otherwise and including the international pressure that comes after that from the international community this all also coupled with what's happening with the international criminal court and the proceedings that are being started against israeli officials i think all of these matters are not forcing those leena government through the israeli attorney
1:12 pm
general to review of the whole issue of taking. this man's right and palestinian houses just because there is and there is a claim that jews used to live in these places try it and i think i said this is what i want to do what you've given us a great big picture there on the ground if you were a palestinian who lived there. what they have proof of ownership is something which has not actually when they have hannah and and how does that hold up against the israeli argument that we were here actually before you. it's a very complicated system looking about ottoman documents the palestinian families brought lots of documents showing a that they own this these houses because of that agreement that they had with the tradition in government rights was the ruler of this area between 148100627 there was actually an agreement between them. what was called here on the what the united

nations will be. for and a few g.'s and that if you g.'s themselves who were expelled from their homes in list still sometimes in west jerusalem and other areas that became is the end in $1048.00 so they were inhabited in these in this land and after mike in 67 after the occupation of these jews then those settler groups they say they argue that they have a document from 8095 and ultimate document that we never found its origin in the ultimate out of guides and they have never presented its origin to the court but based on that document as they were thought it is decided to just there in 1006 to 7 this whole plot and then again mazen and starting from that date they. have initiated so many lawsuits against palestinians living and they're almost 28 if family is a victim based on the argument that this land belonged to them prior to 948 when i
1:14 pm
was you know those palestinians were living of these houses they hold lots of property in other areas of jerusalem including withdrawal set in or other parts of what became to be israel and they cannot claim it back so then here is there's a limit so we've got a few minutes against that right so we've got a situation where both sides are making claims we know that and they can be historical and even more historical claims but the difference is that the israelis have force and they are willing to use force not just the courts to forcibly remove people from this once attended in the past. without force sometimes have also a listening ear from the israeli land the authority when they stay as they sit in a shift of this process of just letting us land in 1006 and making 72 i'm go there maybe but is that a lamp authority did not really pay lots of attention as it would have done if the
1:15 pm
palestinian was that and they easily just out of the land of the and out of their name without enough proper documents as you can understand as the really governmental to support these to close the loop actually they are very some that are very friendly about some of that at some point but the trinity to support them all the time and disappointing in this matter that this put them in other issues you know that up to do with settlements in east jerusalem including taking property in east jerusalem or palestinians while not living in his general sit him under the pretext that those palestinians are now absent and because 'd they are absent right what is called the absentee property law and they can confiscate their property as well and force it clear purposes mohamed giving us some of the legal background to the issue of a schecter of thank you for your time we appreciate his. thank you now since we

have been on air we have heard from the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu he has spoken about the violence at alex a mosque compound and what's happening in chapter i have a listen i'm a. loser long struggle this taking place in the heart of jerusalem this is not a new struggle this is a struggle between intolerance and tolerance between lawbreaking and violence and law and order the struggle is not new because it has transpired over jerusalem and the heart of jerusalem for centuries since the rise of the monotheistic religions for years one side ruled and excluded the 2 others and sometimes they changed and the same thing happened you can say that in the long history of jerusalem only under israeli sovereignty since 1967 we are witnessing a continuous stable secure period in which we are working to ensure freedom of worship and tolerance for all. and we've been speaking exclusively with iraq's prime minister mustapha in baghdad on this topic he says the palestinian families
1:17 pm
have the legal right to stay in shape. you could take heed a lot in iraq denounces all the crimes against the palestinian people and the prevention of the muslim community to access the holy sites and protecting the palestinian neighborhoods that historically belonged to them and should be protected and defended. 60 minutes 17 minutes past the hour here's what's coming up one of the most successful vaccination programs and one of the longest lock downs in the world means more restrictions are being lifted in england. for more than 180 is this has been playing a part in science fiction movies and the dream for many flying away with your own car i'm stuck fast reporting from a dutch company who claims to have been for the 1st commercially available flying car. and in sport a doping scandal hits one of horse racing's most famous events and he is here to about 10 to the yard with that story.

his mother told al-jazeera he had received numerous threats from paramilitary groups backed by iran the militias are everywhere in the streets they have a list which includes the names of all the activists they will kill them one by one today they killed my son and soon. they'll kill another funeral procession arrived in the scorching afternoon heat their religious opus punctuated with desperate cries for survival. the parties are killing us screamed the man who once stood by hop side in cabinets protest squares demanding change but is anyone listening inside the haps family said their final goodbye their anger directed at both the killers and the government who failed to protect him are looked at with we don't trust the government and we don't trust this political process if there is to be justice there should be an international investigation he is one of 34 activists assassinated since protests 1st began in
1:20 pm
october 21000 according to iraq's human rights commission a 3rd were killed after a new government was formed in may 2020 promising to end impunity when prime minister most the fall of kabul may came to power almost a year ago he promised to rein in our troops that acted outside of the state's control and to bring those responsible for the deaths of protesters and activists to account but only a handful of iran have been made and no one has been convicted and so the killings and the funerals go on the protestors drove body to care about a central square once packed with crowds railing for a cause but after the movement crumbled amid brutal repression they mostly just gather to mourn those they lost few here dare to speak on camera in fear they might be next some expect violence to further flare ahead of october elections warning.
1:21 pm
these assassinations don't come out of nowhere they are organized it's links the elections that have been set for next october and all these politicians are scared i think the october protesters will compete for their power to bring about change that's why they're targeting the activists and today have paid the price. the prime minister promised justice and ordered and wiring but none of these investigations have borne fruit in the past leaving little hope for accountability in the future. someone is now back bureau to bring us an update on this one what more any reaction from the iranians about the attack on their consulate. well the iranians have condemned of course the attack on the consulate have also been more protests and care about this morning and further demonstrations are planned later just evening
1:22 pm
after people break their daily fast as it is the fasting month of ramadan they're taking to the streets to once again protests demanding justice for the killings not just of it was neat but dozens of other activists that have been assassinated since and government protests 1st began and also just last night there was an utter another attempted killing of a local t.v. reporter named ahmed has a son he is currently in the hospital he's in a critical condition undergoing surgery and there is no immediate motive why he may have been targeted but there is a fear however it does kind of assassinations increase not just the head of the elections but also as prime minister of the me is preparing to mark his one year anniversary in office he has been giving interviews to various channels emphasizing his achievements but of course some of these armed groups that are targeting these

protesters these activists they are trying to undermine his authority they're trying to show that he is not actually able to secure the country in this kind of struggle between the they'd and these non-state actors is only expected to intensify as we head towards elections in october reporting some saltine in baghdad and intolerable of the reports earlier. at least 25 people have been killed after a bus hit a landmine in afghanistan it happened on the kabul kandahar highway in zabul province local officials say women and children are among the victims. and separately there's been reports of at least 20 soldiers being killed in a car bomb attack that happened outside an army base near the city of fata meanwhile the taliban's announced a 3 day cease fire in afghanistan during the muslim festival of adolf hitler this week 2 days after the government blamed the group for an attack outside

the security forces charged inside the mosque it's understood palestinian worshippers were staging a sit in protest they say they wanted to guard the mosque ahead of a march by rightwing israeli nationals later on an event they call jerusalem day. and iran's foreign ministry has strongly condemned the violence at its consulate in karbala protesters in the iraqi city set fires around the consulate after an anti-government activist was shot dead in an apparent execution. the number of covert 1000 infections in india has fallen to below 400000 for the 1st time in 4 days health officials have recorded none of the 3700 deaths which is down as well the health system overwhelmed pressure is still building on prime minister narendra modi to announce a nationwide lockdown just like he did during the 1st wave more with me in new
1:29 pm
delhi poverty i think those numbers need some explaining don't they because it would be a great thing if they were coming down but maybe you can elaborate for us why they are actually possibly not. well yes in terms of the national picture the numbers have broken their record setting streak which you seen over the last few days you know cases below fresh cases there are 400000 for the 1st time in 4 days 4 or 5 days and debts below 4000 into all speeches but what we're seeing in terms of trends is really the caseload shifting to the southern half of the country so again in terms of glimmer of hope we're seeing cases in maharashtra and delhi significantly down and that's probably because the stupid the 2 states have been in lockdown for quite some time now you know especially delhi where cases are now below 15000 after a couple of weeks unfortunately what we're seeing is that cases in states like to
1:30 pm
do carry lock or not to go are really skyrocketing and so those states have responded the way delhi in maharashtra to the few weeks ago that is announce fresh lockdowns so today coming out to and cannot discuss started their 2 week strict lockdown and go on and carry loss started their lockdown last weekend and then there's always. this could be under reported as well as we do see in a lot of countries if i can move on to the issue of vaccines name which we all know is supposed to be the way out of the crisis what is happening with the indian vaccination drive at the moment. you know unfortunately while can the numbers since slightly better us till soaring across the country that's a nation's are frankly crawling at best what we're seeing really is a lot of chaos and confusion on the ground and a lot of criticism on the central government for its policies in terms of numbers you know from its peak in early april daily vaccinations have dropped almost 40
1:31 pm
percent and what we're seeing is really the result of 2 or 3 things the 1st being that demand has outstrip supply by a huge margin now we have 2 vaccine makers in the country and there they can produce around 70000000 doses a month and that's what they've been doing but demar has gone up because the eligibility criteria in the country has really gone up because now every adult to get a shot the 2nd is a change of policy so the central government was procured and vaccines and distributing them through public and private channels there were 2 channels now there are 3 channels starting 1st which is the central government the state government and private hospitals the 3rd thing is the pricing model there are 3 different prices for 3 vaccines for the sorry for the 3 channels for the 2 vaccines and basically states have been caught off guard they're scrambling to get doses
1:32 pm
states like delhi saying they don't have enough doses for more than 4 or 5 days and really what the fear is that you will soon see a bidding war where rich over rich states will be able to outbid and get more doses and really the losers at the end of the day are the most vulnerable people in this nation because they're the ones who really are waiting to get a shot and are not able to because of the chaos on the ground ok thank you for those updates on the coverage situation in india. as an extension of that india and thailand they share a centuries old cultural and religious ties even tie royal family traditions and names of state and indian heritage but now many communities in thailand their lives are affected by that dire situation in india scott hardly has our report from bangkok. the devon and dear hindu temple would normally be filled with hundreds gathered for morning prayers but these times are anything
1:33 pm
but normal here in thailand and especially in india. the faithful now forced to participate through a facebook live stream not only is the temple community praying for family members facing the covert crisis there but they organized the delivery of donated oxygen nearby the tight alleys of little india shopping district would usually be flowing with shoppers from across bangkok. many who work here are part of an indian diaspora that have lived in thailand for generations india's influence particularly religious isn't twined in thai culture when he said has worked in her family shop her entire life her father's indian her mother tie i know her father is now in pradesh a state that had 40 percent of all the covert deaths in india last month she tries to talk to him every day. one pam i worry about my father yes i am i don't want him to go but he's 40 about his son he wanted to go i want him to come
1:34 pm
back. because of the 3rd and strongest wave of covert to hit thailand many here in bangkok india are struggling but the community is still strongly dedicated to doing what they can to help people caught in india's devastating crisis. indian business leaders in bangkok also stepping in putting aside their day jobs as they gather and send direly needed medical equipment. a lot of connection between india and thailand historically in religious ways in may the gods are the same they prepare to send another shipment of oxygen concentrators to help alleviate the massive strain on hospitals and the serious lack of oxygen the concentrators can be used for milder cases at home and don't need direct connection to an oxygen supply imagining so many people not being able to breathe you know just that picture going in their head is. something that many of us can't live with so while they do
1:35 pm
everything they can to help their homeland in crisis indian thais will have to continue to pray via video link for their loved ones in danger but also pray that their situation does not worsen scott hurdler al-jazeera bangkok and you know nepal is so short on oxygen canisters right now that it's asked climbers on mount everest to bring back their empty oxygen cans instead of leaving them on the mountain slopes a surge in covert 19 cases brought the fragile health care system to a breaking point in the poll climbers and their guides have carried at least 3 and a half 1000 oxygen bottles this season alone now some better news coming out of england where residents are waiting to hear if rules around social distancing with friends and family will be eased in a few hours the british prime minister is due to detail the next stage of reopening in england boris johnson is expected to confirm that people will be allowed to meet in groups of up to 30 out doors and also that restaurants and pubs would reopen for
1:36 pm
indoor dining and drinking more with andrew symonds in a london new center so enter group gatherings going out to a restaurant i believe even hugging might be allowed again this is real progress. certainly years earned not unusual for the boris johnson government but there's a trail to the good news and that is what you've already outlined of the stand out is that people will be allowed to get indoors or public houses bars and restaurants and on top of that you'll see the reopening of museums which is it's months and months since they've been opened and also cinema hours that's going to be a big difference why all of this well of course it's the vaccine program in the u.k. it's one of the biggest in the world in terms of the rollout there are now 2 thirds of the population as a whole having had their 1st jab and
1:37 pm
a 3rd of the population overall have had both jobs right now now add to this some caution because there are worries about of outbreaks of the indian variant of coded some scientists are saying that they are a bit uneasy about the gatherings inside with the rule of 62 families or 6 people inside they're concerned but you know about ventilation because that's a worry and so they're warning that there could be a bit of complacency here with the population this is england alone by the way not sullivan northern ireland and wales they'll be announcing their measures so what we've got here is good news it would seem and as i say all down to the vaccine rollout but don't forget that figure which some don't remember quite as well as others and that is nearly 128000 dead that's the 5th highest figure in the entire
1:38 pm
world in terms of covert deaths very good point and one that must be forgotten thank you andrew simmons in london. now the issue of people smuggling between sudan and ethiopia is increasing despite their border crossings actually being closed sudan has long been a transit center for many people hoping to make it on to europe sudanese of origin so the conflict in ethiopia is taking a region is leading to many more trying to make that journey here but morgan has a report now from gallup that. this shelter is far from was highly fair and his family had back in their hometown of my. degree region but when conflict erupted last november hyla says he was forced to abandon all he had and he and his family smuggled themselves into sudan through an unofficial border crossing. i came into the country at night through the bush there was
1:39 pm
a farm at the border and that's where i stayed for the day sudanese soldiers found me and others who were also escaping to great and brought us to the camp i had hoped to eventually leave and go to another country because i have relatives who've crossed the border before the conflict and they're now in europe and elsewhere but instead we came to the refugee camps the degree conflict is now in its 6 months and has forced more than 63000 people into sudan in search of safety many came through official border crossing points along the sudan if you order during the 1st days of conflict but refugees shortly after the conflict started crossing the border from if you became difficult and smuggling became the safest way to seek refuge in sudan sport estates of. they're not the only ones making the journey hundreds coming each year in search of work borders between sudan and if you were marked out in the early 20th century during british colonial rule. despite being drawn on maps the borders between sudan and if you are poorly defined on the ground in most parts
1:40 pm
there are no formal barriers to mark where one country and the other begins on the stretches of farmland and while border smuggling is not other factors besides the 2 great conflict helped increase over the past few months border crossings have been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic now if you do cross don't venture far from this area in a place called. it's a new 2 kilometer stretch of paperwork is needed to enter. it's better for me to locate and show them i can communicate with the people and earn money unlike back and my village and. in late november sudan moved to take over 3000 square kilometer region in the state. that sudan claims under a colonial agreement dating back to mine 1000 or 2 but ethnic i'm her farmers from ethiopia say they've been farming it for nearly 5 decades and it belongs to them local authorities say the situation at the border has also led to a rise in other forms of smuggling. the forces are now also combating an increase
1:41 pm
in smuggling of weapons to borders of long being porous and with conflict into gray we find people seeking refuge more often they do that by smuggling across the border and those we detect 100 over to the refugee commission but we need organizations to tend to the refugees otherwise we'll start seeing trafficking of vulnerable refugio hyla says when he was smuggled into sudan he was concerned about the welfare of his family he says he still hopes to relocate his family to a better place but now wants to do it legally by any repercussions on their lives and their future he will morgan al-jazeera. sunday is. first birthday but it is unlikely she will see her 2nd unless her parents can find more than $2000000.00 you know has skeletal muscular atrophy it is a genetic disease that affects more than $10000.00 babies every year there is a new drug that can save them but in most places it's not funded charlotte dallas

flight mode but long seemed a futuristic idea is looking pretty real on this dutch road so far this flying car is only allowed to drive the company hopes to get permission from the european every patient safety agency as early as next year scientists long try to figure out how to make a car fly or plane drive we have to be able to fold rotors propellers tails into a shape where you can take it on the road and that's very challenging specially because it has to be right. so all these technologies are incorporated in our design and that's why we can build a flying car now which we couldn't 10 or 50 years ago although tens of companies worldwide are developing enough that if most of transportation this company claims theirs is the 1st flying car that will become a reality dutch taxi companies have ordered 3 it still feels like i'm playing a part in a science fiction movie and it's hard to imagine that i could soon fly away with
