should are sorry this is a crime they were civilians a woman the children a barber shop owner these are the people who were at the scene they didn't have the militants nor an official we are civilians sleeping at a harm's. well the armed wing of the palestinian group hamas has launched another barrel of rockets at israel from gaza it says it's in response to the killing of several senior hamas commander is including its military chief israeli paramedics say a 6 year old is in a critical condition after a rocket strike on an apartment building in the city of startled. more than a 1000 palestinian rockets have been fired into israel from gaza over the past day and they've had a long range from tel aviv in the north down to bare shivah in the south 6 israelis have been killed in these rocket attacks including a father and daughter laid who were palestinian israelis i would like to see
10:03 pm
that will live some kind of positiveness to find a solution between. the palestinian what was a really scary nights my friends who live in remote places where even more scared but they're used to this reality of missiles being fired from the gaza strip and all of israel's under attack it's a very scary situation to be in. and tensions of also spilled onto the streets of israel's mixed palestinian israeli towns and neighborhoods there have been riots in the city of becky young near tel aviv shops owned by palestinian israelis have been targeted it's some of the worst spasms of communal violence that israel has seen in years. and the israeli government has declared a state of emergency in lead where about a 3rd of the population are palestinian israelis a palestinian man was shot dead and a synagogue and dozens of vehicles that were set on fire the mayor likened it to a civil war to
10:04 pm
a very tense situation there well al jazeera is a sufi kaluta and harry falsetto covering developments from gaza and southern israel let's start with stuff what else can do to joins us now from gaza so a 1st of all tell us a little bit about what the situation is there is like there now. just a few minutes ago the israeli fighting jerk jets fired at least 13 rockets at the main a junction in gaza city which is a few meters far from our office these explosions shaped every house almost in gaza city and also cut off the electricity in many places in gaza as you can see the background it's completely dark except from some houses who are using generators. apart from that there are there are more israeli airstrikes targeting. cars on
10:05 pm
homes in many other places all over the gaza strip we have been receiving information about more casualties but still have not. been able to reach of these places if you could know here are also in the bargain on the dumb glances are rushing towards the explosions to. carry the casualties the minister of health still confirming that $65.00 palestinians killed including 16 children and 5 women and more than $390.00 palestinian injured. in the last wave of a skeleton still the palestinian fighting group 'd they are firing their rockets towards southern israel and at 9 o'clock pm local jihad fire the 2nd. a 2nd biggest barrage to words of rockets towards.
10:06 pm
ashkelon and. they said. this is a promise that they did in retaliation of this initial of hamas military commander and islamic jihad commanders that they were us this in ated yesterday hamas has released a statement in the name of. saying that the confrontation is all. that they will not surrender and we're ready to continue defending their people this is an indication that there is no mediation yet that egypt and others. have failed to mediate to calm down the situation or to reach to reach at least a temporary cease fire on the horizon we can see the need and the cold most the israelis are removing from. from a live to a higher level of collision by targeting. a. fighter's by
10:07 pm
targeting. commandos by hitting people a residential. buildings asking people to leave their homes now tens of people are found in the seat looking for alternatives to their destroyed places so far 16 denote a building have been forced to evacuate after their received phone calls from the israelis to leave their buildings then the israelis destroyed them according to local human rights center of losses to 36 until yesterday a 16 building had been evacuated and destroyed by the israelis in addition to the 2 biggest residential towers. and the one behind us called i'll show her which is full of international media attention and local media offices.
10:08 pm
today there were more 5 also buildings that have been evacuated and destroyed by the israelis we are expecting another wave of scale ition from both sides says there is no 'd an indication of calmness no an indication of 'd intervention from any regional or international part of the situation suffered with the lathe. from stuff like thank you for bringing us up to date let's go to how we force that now who's in southern israel and near gaza so we were hearing what the israelis have been doing to gaza but of course we've seen around the 1000 rockets also leave the strip for various locations in israel tell us more about that. yes that's right and the palaces i mean you heard rockets that saw what was just referring to we saw those very close hand just about an hour or so ago
10:09 pm
a very large volley coming out of the gaza strip coming over very close to us and several of them being intercepted by the iron dome overhead but a lot of them did get through once more and it was a direct hit on an apartment building in the town of steroids close to the gaza strip a 6 year old boy is said to have been hit or at least injured in that attack and is in a critical condition as well as at earlier in the day there was an anti-tank missile fired at an israeli military jeep one soldier was killed 2 others injured one of them critically and israel itself has been talking about the kinds of attacks it's been carrying out inside gaza the prime minister benjamin netanyahu was talking about one particular incident the coordinated killing of 6 senior hamas commanders he said that there will be more unimaginable things in store for what he
10:10 pm
called a terrorist group a pretty belligerent words there do we have any indication of what else the israelis might be planning crucially whether we could see a ground invasion. well it's early to talk about that at the moment there is some reporting in the israeli media that tonight's security cabinet meeting was at least that had the potential to discuss it and certainly we have seen a lot of military hardware being moved around this area i have to caveat that by saying not only is this. unsourced publicly reports in the israeli media not even saying that such a decision has been made merely that it might be talked about but also when there are these escalatory rises in tension around the gaza area it is almost a matter of course that israel will move large military vehicles tanks and the like to the area over this time we are seeing as well as tanks and other tracked
10:11 pm
vehicles major artillery pieces being put in place as well so it is looking as if they are trying to amass a serious option at least even if they don't carry through that because obviously a ground invasion carries great anymore risks for israelis and what is currently going on in terms of the very extensive strikes that israel has almost entirely supremacy over the entire area and can just use power it's very destructively as hamas was just talking about now as we have seen. i suppose when violence escalates the focus here in the years between hamas in gaza and the israeli military but we're also seeing now is tensions and riots in many of these really towns that there are mixed palestinian israeli and a jewish to tell us a little bit more about how that is that helping. yes
10:12 pm
these are extraordinary worrying disquieting depressing scenes going on across israel and really israeli reporters are talking about them as unprecedented what we saw was if we take it chronologically was the explosion of violence in jerusalem on monday which in large part was the final step towards where we began this this escalatory path in terms of the military action here in the south but also there were violent demonstrations that night there was a palestinian man in the city of lodge shot dead by a jewish civilian there was then earlier on tuesday a very big funeral which led to clashes with the israeli security forces inside blood and
10:13 pm
a call from the mayor of the town to the prime minister saying that he needs a civil state of emergency imposed and troops brought in because he had lost control of that town another 1st 2 nights of this violence there was back and forth but the preponderance of it was largely arab against jew tonight it seems to be largely the other way around a lot of jewish attacks on israeli palestinians on housing israelis in many cities mixed cities and others across the country in in battle in the center of israel there's an arab i screamed fact shop that's been entirely trashed entire period a tourist town on the on the shores of the sea of galilee death to arabs being chanted there's been a images of a palace in israeli man being set upon by a group of israelis so the prime minister the president they've all been talking about this they've been talking at the prime minister's been talking about dealing
10:14 pm
with this with an iron fist. of restoring law and order so this is a parallel and extremely concerning development for the government even as it continues to conduct this extensive and exhilarating military operation in and around gaza herefore said with the latest there in southern israel near gaza harry thank you. for u.s. airlines have canceled flights to tel aviv amid the escalating conflict secretary of state anthony blinken says he will send a diplomat to urge israelis and palestinians to end the violence be very clear again we strongly condemn the rocket attacks coming out of gaza that are targeting innocent israeli civilians and israel has a right to defend itself. palestinians have a right to live in safety and security. and the most important thing going forward now is to take down the violence to deescalate and
10:15 pm
that's exactly what we're working toward. solving the national security adviser has been engaged with his counterpart talked to foreign minister of the one issue of the deputy secretary of state has been engaged as well and as i mentioned just a short while ago we are sending our senior official responsible for israeli and palestinian affairs to the region we've been engaged with all parties including the palestinians and that that will continue but the most important thing now is for all sides to cease the violence to deescalate and to try to move to to calm. anthony blinken speaking there were let's talk to our white house correspondent kimberly halkett a kimberly anthony blinken they have talking very much about the you know needing to deescalate the violence do we get any idea of how much pressure the u.s.
10:16 pm
might actually be putting on israel which of course it's one of its closest allies in the world to actually be quite proactive in the escalating violence. we're getting a clearer picture now of just how far this white house has been working so what privately as well as publicly in terms of public statements in order to get israel to work to bring down the temperature but it appears that nudge as the administration called it just a day ago does not appear to be working just the opposite and so that's why we heard from the secretary of state that not only has he reached out calling the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu but now they have sent one high level official to the region in order to meet with israeli and palestinian leaders the white house press secretary jim psaki telling reporters earlier that $25.00 calls including the national security adviser have been made in recent days in order to
10:17 pm
try and discourage some of the violence that we're seeing in and around israel but fortunately it doesn't appear to be effective that's why we know that not only is the white house reaching out to israeli and palestinian officials but also they have reached out to other governments including the government of qatar and egypt that they know have channels to hamas in order to try and get people to stop the fighting so definitely quite a strong diplomatic effort going on how much of a headache is this for a still relatively new white house we know that president biden is perhaps not as unquestioning. perhaps of president but still the united states is now and a very close ally so how much of a headache is it for him though. i think it's very notable that the call to benjamin netanyahu was not made by the u.s. president but instead was made by the secretary of state no other words it wasn't
10:18 pm
counterpart to counterpart and that says something about the president's agenda we know that this president came in elected largely into mastic issues of dealing with cope with 19 trying to get the economy back on track this is not what he wants to be dealing with right now but of course as you mentioned the relationship between the united states and israel his historic there have been billions of dollars in military aid so whether the u.s. president wants to be involved or not historically the united states is involved but this president so far has been reticent to speak out in fact when he spoke to reporters he did not address this situation earlier in the day but the calls from members of his own party the democratic party are growing ever louder in the united states for the president to invest his political capital if you will to try and bring an end to the fighting but for now what we're seeing is the cabinet members
10:19 pm
whether it be the secretary of state whether it be the defense minister that they are speaking to israeli officials but as well it is important to note while we continue to see this reiteration of the statements we've heard for so many years that israel has a right to defend itself that the united states just supports its ironclad right to do that we're also seeing support from the biden ministration for palestinians in fact we did hear from the secretary of state and to the blinken saying what do you spoke earlier that it is the belief of the biden administration that palestinians and israelis equally deserve to live in safety and security in equal measures they are entitled to freedom prosperity security and democracy so it shows where the biden administration stands in contrast to the trumpet minister. it's been accused of being very pro israel and not talking to palestinian leaders at all but at the same time this is an administration and
10:20 pm
a president that right now is trying to let this matter be resolved but increasingly is feeling himself drawn in. kimberley halkett to thank you for a valiant 9 valve is the reaction from the united states meanwhile the u.n. security council has held another urgent closed door meeting about the escalating violence and called on all sides to exercise restraint u.n. secretary general and also spoke a little earlier in moscow he says the peace process needs to be restarted to resolve this issue. international law applies to everybody without exception all member states are supposed to abide by the resolutions namely the resolutions really council and obviously the unity of the significance you receive extremely important instruments the recent incidents the most important it is to restart effectively the peace process because it's the only work with true believer that we need to promote
10:21 pm
a 2 state solution living in peace and harmony between the 2 and with normalized relations with the region and the full participation of the countries of the region of in social commitments all in creating the conditions for this peace process to move forward. and in spring you. live shots there we were telling you about how tensions have spilled onto the streets of visuals mixed palestinian israeli towns and neighborhoods and we can see some of those pictures there let's also tell you about some reaction that's coming in to a lot of that violence that we're seeing across israel so beyond just between hamas and the israeli military now one of israel's 2 chief rabbis appealed for restraint as media reported a spread of street attacks by jews on members of the country's arab minority some of whom have mounted violent protests in solidarity with gaza palestinians these
10:22 pm
are the words of the society chief rabbi yitzhak yosef he said we must not be dragged into provocations and inflicting harm on people and the property against the 40 chief rabbi of speaking in a statement saying the torah of israel grants no license for taking the law into one's hands and acting violently so one of israel's 2 chief rabbis there reacting to some of the violence and you're seeing some of that violence in on your screen right now that we are seeing in palestinian israeli towns and neighborhoods across israel. and in the last hour palestinian president mahmoud abbas has been chairing an executive committee meeting and he called for an end to what he termed the israeli aggression our people have spoken word and we. are without occupation aggression without.

director of gaza's as she the hospital he says the attacks of put pressure on the medical system which was already stretched to breaking point. you know no one would look up on then the situation is more than simply picos gaza strip as you know has been under tight siege for the past 14 years the seeds has exhausted the entire health care sector in this trip in addition we were hit by the coronavirus pandemic which we have been fighting for more than a year now israel's recent unjust some political aggression has come to add insult to injury and as you see for your own eyes innocent women and children are victims most of their buddies are torn apart needless to say that our operation rooms have been suffering lack of supplies over the past 15 years consumables and medicines are in charge shortage in the entire guys there's 3 of them and this hospital has been running on the same devices and up lunches for the past 20 years. shots there
