the song a. good song a. bomb. israel's bombardment of gaza intensifies the death toll mounts and thousands of people have been forced from their homes. oh i maryam namazie in london you're watching al-jazeera also coming up on the program more than $100.00 rockets are fired from gaza the israeli prime minister says a mass will pay a heavy price for these attacks. at least 10 palestinians are killed and hundreds
10:01 pm
more injured as protests erupt across the occupied west bank. i'm also be looking at india's covert vaccine crisis in the program some states start taking matters into their own hands despite government promises. of course we begin in gaza where israel's bombardment has intensified and civilians continue to get caught in the crossfire. this was the moment when the building that houses the interior ministry was attacked as no word yet on casualties a multi story building that had a hamas bank inside it was also leveled in a separate ass strike at least $122.00 palestinians this includes $31.00 children have now been killed since the israeli military offensive started on monday
10:02 pm
meanwhile a mass and its allies have been firing more rockets from inside gaza the israeli military says a total of $140.00 rockets have been launched towards israel so far on friday most of them were intercepted at least 9 people in israel have died since the conflict escalated. and then we've also been following developments in the west bank a wave of protests there have broken out over these radio keep asian there's also growing frustration and anger after israel intensified its as strikes over gaza have been standoff between protesters and israeli police in at least 200 places from hebron and bethlehem also in nablus. right so what we're following developments of course in gaza we have stuff what actually forces as well joins us from the jar on a boat in occupied east jerusalem in
10:03 pm
a bit let me let me start with you because we were just looking at some of the latest developments in gods or and really intense bombardment of the area of the night concentrated mainly in the northern gaza strip tell us what you've been seeing and hearing as night falls there. yes just a while ago israeli artillery we could hear the ground the israeli artillery resuming. borderline in the north of the gaza strip of course not as it was last night a police so far. shortly before the israeli artillery bombardment that was the israeli navy had one of the targets that belonged to the sea forces and shot the refugee come which is one of the most crowded areas also in and shouted if you come and the gaza strip next door office here they had one of
10:04 pm
the apartments. they say they managed to retrieve a police one body and other 10 people injured and attacked in the north of gaza strip also the engine ition hospital said that it's. too but there is another strike and the north of gaza strip in the other hand the palestinian fighting groups are still firing their rockets towards southern israel an hour ago was the last biggest. rockets fired from gaza longer range rockets fired from gaza. except the bomb being dux we can or the shelling that we can hear in the north of the gaza strip. is now liston's and less fire compared with 2 hours ago thank you
10:05 pm
very much from suffolk and. snack. well israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu has been speaking out insisting that a mass should pay a very heavy price and warns that it won't stop carrying out the attacks. the senior leaders of hamas believe that they can escape from our armed forces but they cannot we can reach them everywhere we reach all these people and we will continue to do so they attacked us on our holiday in our capital and fired rockets at our cities they have paid and will pay a heavy price for that this is not over yet. let's go live now to harry for citizenship sharon occupied east jerusalem the the district where palestinians were threatened with losing their homes to israeli settlers and a so really the impending affection of those 6 palestinian families very much a trigger for the conflict that we're seeing now but also other worrying
10:06 pm
developments have been these beatings stabbings shootings arsons violence between arabs and jews in cities across the country. that's right i mean this is as you say one of the main sort of trigger points and fueling issues for this violence and we've seen further attempts to protest at least outside the home homes are at risk with minor scuffles with security forces here pushing people back inside but yes occupied east jerusalem outside of israel has also been a scene in recent days of pretty clear instances of racial violence there was a jewish person attacked by a palestinian group close to the city walls of the old city the other day and earlier here of course is a conference of issues this ongoing protest but also into ethnic violence going on with palestinians and jewish settlers facing off around
10:07 pm
a jewish building in a neighborhood just a little way away from here with 2 of 4 of the occupants of that place brandishing weapons as they threw stones at people from outside who were themselves throwing stones and fire letting off fireworks into the area those guns were used and one palestinian person was injured as a result of that exchange before the police went in and removed the weapons there have also been other developments elsewhere in israel itself where we've seen. the arrest of a senior muslim cleric a senior member of the islamic movement by the security service the shin bet accompanying that and after that very major disturbances in the palestinian israeli town of call for qana where we've seen streets filled with with protesters moving around and a large number of injuries we've heard from
10:08 pm
a doctor that there have been dozens of injuries in that incident so as well as talking about this the prime minister benjamin netanyahu talking about rather about the situation in gaza he's also been talking again about this issue he's been talking about groups of arabs who are attacking jews just for being jews that's correct that has been happening he didn't talk at all in this instance at least about the reverse of that issue and he's promising an extremely severe crackdown really telling police that they need to do whatever they can to to try to quell this violence. ok thank you very much gary falls that in occupy interest them in the neighborhood of thank you very much for now hereon of course we're seeing developments really in other parts in other cities in other communities particularly in iraq in the occupied west bank and they're expected to be more protests taking place that need to brings us more now on the
10:09 pm
latest developments. there are protesters who are trying to get away from the army as you can see now. crowds are cheering because some palestinians threw a molotov cocktail on one of the israeli army jeeps and there are palestinians who are here coming to cheer the palestinian protesters now as we can see another round of tear gas fired at the protesters by the israeli army so they're trying to get away from the soldiers trying to get away from the tear gas bombs some are even carrying these gas bombs and throwing it back to the israeli army and israeli soldiers. and we are seeing cheers from the palestinians who are over here remember the methods that palestinians are using to confront israeli soldiers are not necessarily do not necessarily cause danger to the israeli soldiers but
10:10 pm
as many of them were telling us it's their way of showing that they're not afraid of the have any armed israeli soldiers and they are trying their best to show their frustration and anger and that they are indeed fighting the israeli occupation in every way they can. well the spokesman for the palestinian authority president mahmoud abbas has accused the united states of encouraging what he called israeli war crimes and dana said that the silence of the u.s. administration regarding what israel is doing and is describing is as self-defense has led to massacres inside gaza the west bank and jerusalem. the secretary of state put us in affairs as now landed in israel and as you can see our white house correspondent kimberly how kate is following all of this and joins us now this
10:11 pm
israel palestine never seem to be very high on the farm policy priority list for the byington administration but is that now changing well it doesn't appear that it is changing because if it had changed then it wouldn't be the deputy secretary of state for israeli and palestinian affairs they would be heading over right now it would likely be the secretary of state anthony blanket in fact this is being noticed by not just people around the world but members of the president's own democratic party because you'll remember that when and to blink and the secretary of state took on the role of secretary of state he made a very strong speech in which he espoused that the foundation of u.s. foreign policy would be up holding human rights around the world that the united states would try to be a leader in all of this so the notable silence of the united states as we see ongoing casualties disproportionately for palestinians has been very notable in
10:12 pm
fact members of the president's own democratic party are accusing the biden administration of looking the other way as israeli gauges in a horrific campaign against palestinians but the white house is denying this the white house press secretary joe psaki had this to say. israel has the right to self defense our focus remains on continuing to use every lever at our disposal to deescalate the situation on the ground i think it's also important to remind people hamas is a terrorist organization hamas does not represent the views the families the people who are suffering all of the palestinian people who are suffering as a result of this violence but there is no justification for 1500 rockets coming from hamas. but many members of the democratic party including walking castro a representative are saying is that this is
10:13 pm
a question out of proportion or disproportion in this case and that the united states is exacerbating a cycle of violence and that it needs to stand up for the values of human rights that it claims to cherish now the white house says that it nothing has changed in terms of its foreign policies with respect to that and that's where they have said this lower level envoy to the region and in addition continue to make phone calls to many of their partners and allies in the region including egypt jordan and qatar in the hope that they could have a channel of communication to hamas to bring about what they continue to say they desire is a deescalation in violence all right thank you very much from the white house can be how can it when watching out as they are live from london much more still ahead we're going to bring you some other stories new tenant could prove the end to some deadly diseases so why a few people saying the plan could come back to bite them. well
10:14 pm
there's quite a little spring right about which i hope is welcome it makes things grow off to rule after all the ducks you start to spring on his words fred in various coals he comes up against this blocking hard just to use a mosque or a service that goes in this direction then heads north and times have reasons for the sort of the flow in scandinavia is no longer snowing anyway even in finland temps in the teens. it's cold enough at the height of the tops of the outs on the pier and the still for some snow it's not a great surprise i suppose but as a general disappointment if you look at the temperatures they're in the teens you'd expect to be in the twenty's for example in zurich or in london and london representing england here is wet and windy quite often certainly the whip bit is there now typically innsbrook is below average by 4 degrees and it's going to be
10:15 pm
showers showers showers or thunderstorms for the next few days that does represent an awful lot of europe but not all of spain in the science of spain the southwest and lithia in seville it has hit 41 before but the average is 27 and we well about the ocean that's going to keep going i think so the next couple of days it has been hot throughout the hell recently the area is still pretty hot not sure it's quite a record but it's getting there but it's mostly dry. for. the 1st european country to ban the food facing public places home to more than 6000000 followers of islam many who want to assert their religious and cultural identity in the light of france's 2021 contentious so-called separatism law as we look at the recent history of muslim immigration to the country in the final episode of this 3 part series so muslims are from it's episode
10:16 pm
3 on al jazeera. welcome back our main story this hour. a building housing the interior ministry and another that had a mass bank inside of it have been attacked in fresh air strikes on gaza at least $126.00 palestinians including $31.00 children have now been killed in gaza since the offensive began on monday a mass and its allies are firing more rockets from inside the gaza strip these radio military says a total of $140.00 rockets of the north towards israel on friday most of them were
10:17 pm
intercepted at least 9 people in israel including one child have died since the conflict as. and then a wave of protests have also broken out in the west bank over these radio patients and the intensified as strikes on gaza have been stand offs between protesters and israeli police and at least 200 different locations and 11 palestinians have been killed. well on the 5th day of violence residents in gaza are surrounded by rubble and what's left of their homes and businesses these are some of the scenes showing the immediate aftermath of israeli airstrikes more than 830 palestinians have been injured since hostilities flared up on monday hundreds of families have taken shelter in un run schools in northern gaza to escape israeli military fire. though there is a lot of shelling in the children who are all afraid even adults have been in
10:18 pm
boston for our childhoods we are afraid and cannot bear it anymore for the moment that we were planning to leave during the night the israeli drones and jets kept bombarding us at daylight we finally started moving in we rented to schools we could not believe the way our children were screaming they wanted to leave and we were shaking for them when we woke up we found everything behind us destroyed there's nothing left well dozens of children have been killed in gaza since the shelling began and hundreds more have been displaced with their families or to look more at the impact of this conflict on children specifically now with jason lee he is save the children's country director for the occupied palestinian territory and joins me now from occupied east jerusalem and i suppose with children it will it will depend on their age many older kids who will be traumatized by previous rounds of conflict in the gaza strip how will they now be coping with the loss of family
10:19 pm
friends and seeing their schools and homes destroyed. a 1000000 bases and many of the all the children is important to remember that they are already traumatized many of these children have seen the devastation of war and conflict having been through 3 wars. how do you explain to a child when they lose their or they lose their families they lose their friends they lose their schools and hold out of their country and moving forward the trauma that these children are a bit of the remainder of their lives is something that this is why it's so critical that we have to have an immediate cease fire and as physicians are still treat this trauma will carry lifelong injuries mental health issues both physical and physical disability as well what specifically do you mean by that can you tell us more about the symptoms the effect the consequences of multi-layered trauma
10:20 pm
in young children. my team's reported me their own children have difficulty sleeping they're crying all the time they're fearful one of my teams report that the behavior of his daughters changed so much that she now looks out the window fearful that the whole family home will be destroyed many of my own teams themselves have had to flee their homes because the buildings around them have been destroyed by the air raids what about all younger sorry i didn't interrupt you i was just wondering about you mentioning our older children who have already experienced hostilities in gaza or what about or about younger children who will be experiencing this for the 1st time. i mean how do you explain to a child i have team members that are trying to tell the young children that the airing of fireworks i mean it's babson the ridiculous children know they may not understand but these see and hear everything now what impression are we leaving on
10:21 pm
top of that is that there's a line that the carnage the destruction that they see around or are we doing an entire generation of children to living in a continual cycle of poverty disadvantage and leagues around by violence this cannot be understated what will happen to these children when they grow up in this is the norm all the normal the that they they see around. even before this this current military assault on gaza people where obviously they were dealing with a blockade or lack of electricity clean water sanitation employment now how would children be coping with. with that sort of quality of life and those circumstances. we have a situation now where there are 10000 people that have fled their arms who are known as many of them children seeking refuge in schools they only have the clothes on their back and what they've been able to choose to take in their homes with
10:22 pm
militant warning where they're going to get their next meal probably where they're going to sleep where they go to get medication patrol or don't forget that before the escalation those are already a member of the mon team that deming there was a beginner in upswelling a new wave. what will be the consequences for those children the injuries that they will sustain with the fuel supplies running low and are that there will be no electricity without electricity however the office of the dysfunction 1st of all risks to treat the injured to actually continue with the ongoing vaccinations and treatment of crude 19 patients whole water and sanitation facilities run without clean water it is impossible to have any conventional control the communal diseases . and yet i cannot stress that the cause of the recent humanitarian crisis with thousands of people will be dying if we don't start this conflict
10:23 pm
i suppose the we keep seeing this cycle of escalation every few years is for going about previous rounds of conflicts and hostility and there is perhaps this perception that when the current round of conflict ends the people particularly children are safe but they they continue to suffer psychologically in that time. absolutely even if the who the is rather complex and there are hundreds and hundreds of children that have a lot of disabilities because of the injuries that are going sustain we cannot underscore the mental health and psychological damage that dark chocolate. fractures and inequalities and the drivers as to why children far more and better that i have never been addressed unless we take serious steps to address this with . this violence this continual cycles of violence will flare up and review years
10:24 pm
that we've been as best we've seen in the history of our own over the last few years all right well thank you for joining us jason lee save the children's country director for the occupied palestinian territory there in east jerusalem thank you i want to bring you some other stories now and we turn to india where the prime minister is reassuring people the government is doing everything it can to stop the spread of color that 19 remote his administration has faced heavy criticism for being poorly prepared and allowing large political rallies and his government says 2000000000 vaccines could be available from august but some states are taking matters into their own hands and looking to secure doses from other the seas abney michelle is in new delhi with more now on how different parts of india applying to me that vaccine shortfall. india is the world's largest back to me still over no speedweeks several states have reported. this and have had to even close
10:25 pm
some centers because this simply didn't have enough to inoculate the people in need is development. partner in india said it had started a rule out of the vaccine the moody government has said that it expects to be available on the market starting next week and that the vaccine will be made in india starting july the government has come under severe criticism for its vaccination policy and today announced that it will have enough nearly 2000000000 by the end of the year it says it has been in touch with it see may cause it india and around the world to complete this order still several states have now come out and said that they wouldn't be launching a global tender individually what billions of dollars to import vaccines their knowledge that this is going to be a told to us given the market forces at this point several countries around the world are still waiting for orders they placed
10:26 pm
a while ago the government has said that any vaccine approved by the w 2 and the f.d.a. in the us will be allowed in india and that import licenses will be granted within 2 days the world health organization is rich countries to reconsider their plans to vaccinate children against that 19 it says the doses could be better used in poorer countries and is urging rich ones to donate them to the. w.h.o. also said the 2nd year of the pandemic will be more deadly than the fust i understand why some countries want to vaccinate their children and adolescents but right now are urging them to go to reconsider and to reduce to donate vaccines to go box. because the law and lower middle income countries vaccine supply has not been enough to even immunize home care workers. now computer systems in hospitals across

ireland being shut down as a precaution after a massive cyber attack the irish health service says the system could be down for several days because of the ransomware attack but the coronavirus vaccine program is unaffected because it operates separately from that system emergency services are also carrying on as normal health officials say they are yet to receive any ransom demand. now genetically modified mosquitoes are being released for the 1st time in the united states in a controversial new medical project the florida keys experiment is aimed at reducing the future spread of potentially deadly diseases but any gallagher reports now from miami some residents and environmental groups and all happy about this this is the ada subject time mosque ito an invasive species it's made florida home only the females bite and spread disease and in 2009 were responsible for an
10:28 pm
outbreak of dengue fever that ripped through the florida keys officials say traditional control methods are less effective as the insects build resistance so authorities turn to british biotech firm oxy tech they developed males with a gene that kills female mosquitoes before they reach maturity the males then continue to breed passing the altered gene on to more females it's a program the company says has been successful in brazil panama and malaysia in a november 2016 or $31.00 out of $33.00 monroe county precincts voted in support of our project some overwhelmingly so we'd like to say because it's true that our mosquitoes received more support in that election than any human candidate. while the majority of keys residents back the project some have concerns about the long term effects of a new technology you're going to risk our community you're going to ask the people in our community to be sacrificial lambs really because how else are you going to
10:29 pm
produce your mosquitoes if it weren't for the people in the caves donating their blood. despite some local resistance the pilot project received approval from the environmental protection agency the culmination of a decade long effort by mosquito control of our teas in tackling potentially deadly diseases nothing out there is a silver bullet looking to enter great whatever we can into our current control methods just to make sure that we can suppress that population below disease transmission thresholds mosquito borne diseases like malaria yellow fever or kill over a 1000000 people a year according to the world health organization all this kind of technology is controversial to some it's also being watched closely during the initial stages of this pilot program here in florida around $250000.00 genetically modified male
10:30 pm
mosquitoes will be released if that proves successful in reducing the female it is to get top population millions more could be introduced and to go across his era miami florida mourn everything we're covering right here al jazeera dot com or of course you get all the latest on what is happening in gaza where the israeli air campaign continues as does the response from palestinian factions inside the territory. but as i was saying israel's bombardment of gaza has intensified with more civilians caught in the crossfire. this is the moment.
