a unified statement through the security council and the inability to do so because of u.s. resistance and then invited the players to chinese peace talks i mean this is a an area that has traditionally been negotiated by the united states in the united nations but given as we've been hearing 70 plus years of this issue being on the un's agenda and no progress being made attempting to shake things up a bit i should point out that china is all too happy to call out the united states here at the u.n. and the u.n. last week to china to task holding a side advance calling on. the highlighting its mistreatment of weaker muslims in the country there the u. chinese responded by having a meeting about mightily lateralization the importance of international relations in the u.n. and all countries came out and expressed their support for that so now for the

united states to be here on the issue of israel palestine not willing to work with the international. partners there very happy to call attention to that to that reality but it is reality sadly at this stage that there does not seem to be a way forward here in the security council christine for the moment thanks very much let's bring in omar bug lutie the co-founder of the boycott divestment and sanctions movement he joins us from ramallah. i guess there's not going to be any punch behind what the united nations is talking about at the moment until either the united states falls into line with what everyone else is saying or everyone else falls into line with what the united states is saying. well the point is it's not up to the united states s up to peoples around the world there's a lot to be done we don't have to wait until the security council is no longer hijacked by israel and the united states we are doing

a lot at the grassroots level at the level of parliamentarians political parties trade unions grassroots organizations the point is it's around has got to pay a price for its regime of occupation settler colonialism and apartheid that's been going on for 73 years this ongoing has got to stop but it will not stop now all at the security council because it's hijacked we need to move other levels across the world including the un general assembly including the i.c.c. the international criminal court but also every state can do a lot such as imposing a military embargo on us or cutting relations cutting trade with israel there's a lot that can be done and we need to pressure even more policymakers to reach that level at the academic level cultural level torrence in every area boycott divestment and sanctions has proven its effectiveness and we need to push just one

bit more can i respectfully suggest to you that realistically that is simply not going to happen assuming that it doesn't happen in the way that you're outlining what has to happen in the immediate future so that everyone steps back from where we are at the moment because today day 7 looking at the numbers looking at the death toll looking at the number of people who have been seriously injured day 7 is shaping up to be the worst day of this conflict so far. first it's not a conflict it's a situation of apartheid as at our colonialism and it's very good to avoid euphemisms because the attempts is sort of to continue with its impunity and as heroes officers were burned big partly because editors here among others associated press and others have failed to call things what they are it's an apartheid system it's a massacre in gaza it's not a conflict in any situation of such colonial oppression violence starts with
