in a refugee camp with no electricity and right now we're confronting some of the greatest challenges that humanity has ever faced and i really believe that the only way we can do that is with compassion and generosity and compromise because of the only way we can try to solve any of these problems is together. is so important we make those connections. 0. this is the news hour live from doha coming up in the next 60 minutes. to find him back in green palestinians the cross occupied territories protest
4:01 pm
against israeli balloons. remains of a home are these really aerial strikes of devastation in the lives of palestinians . a lucky escape for some little 100 are still missing moon 20 have been killed as. parts of india. and thousands of rural kamar groups are being blocked from entering the spanish city of suits are after the biggest single day influx into the city. and i'm lee harvey in sports roger federer is making his latest comeback from a career threatening injury the 39 year old is getting ready to play in just his 2nd tournaments of the year. well we begin with the palestinian resistance against illegal israeli occupation and the bombing in gaza the largest general strikes in recent years 2nd place
4:02 pm
across the west bank and within israel thousands surrounding in ramallah live pictures from that rallies have also taken place in bethlehem not loose and hebron israeli security forces have attacked protesters with rubber coated steel bullets and tear gas protesters have thrown stones and most of cocktails in with her language growing about the destruction in gaza so as the kind of dispossession that sparks the latest escalation some 212 palestinians have been killed in gaza including 61 children will have a more formal in just a moment 1st of all let's go live to lady abraham she is near ramallah in the occupied west bank looks like a lot of smoke billowing there behind you what's happening where you are. now the israeli army is firing volleys of tear gas from a drone that is being floated here flight here and then if drops tear gas bombs on
4:03 pm
the protesters this is what we've been seeing we've been seeing also palestinians using rocks molotov cocktails that they prepare here on the scene as well as fodder works to kind of. not allowed the drone to work properly and drop the tear gas bombs all in all according to the palestinian health ministry 18 palestinians have arrived 2 government hospitals most of them are wounded with live ammunition 2 of them are in a critical condition and 2 took more about what brings these protesters here we're joined now by a palestinian who was at the protest play alley him and. we you have been living here you were born and raised under occupation what makes you think that this.
4:04 pm
could be a meta meta we're seeing the crowds are leaving we're not sure what's going on there are ok palestinians who are who are steadily it. could be dictating to say 6 days. yes yes we are ducking now because the clean like. there are. no need so we're going to we're going to we're going to let you cancer places say 6 it sounds rather dangerous where you're reporting from need to abraham and we're going to check in with you and come see you later on. soon we are and bringing in marshall session near ramallah we're going to let our correspondent get to say see listeners see if we could check in with hoda abdel-hamid snow she is in key points east jerusalem. you are hearing the situation. is kicking off quite
4:05 pm
a bit it's getting very violent in this general strike. just walk us through what's happening where you are. well at the moment it is quiet but over the past hour or so this place here behind me just in front of the damascus gate was quite tense now it all started when a group of protesters came and basically stood on the upper steps of this sort of semicircle at this point there was someone an israeli policeman in a megaphone telling the protesters to leave this area but within i would say less than 5 minutes we should the police really move in through stun grenades and for a while they were they were sure of a lot of cale's the protesters were trying to cover to get some sort of safe place
4:06 pm
really and the israeli police was trying to push them as far as possible from this area we also had some water here being sprayed some people who were injured now we do have reports that maybe some rubber coated bullets have been used we don't have confirmation of that yet but we did see some palestinians being really beaten up by the police some of them were lightly injured and we also saw a couple of young men who had been detained now the protesters left this area now and are heading towards church or right now that's the area where some of palestinian families are threatens with eviction and many would tell you that all this round of violence that has been has engulfed really jerusalem and israel is really this part. was share the rock itself so certainly a lot of tension this can see now is temporary how things work here is
4:07 pm
a things could erupt at any moment without any kind of notice ok a much calmer situation there good to hear that. reporting from occupied east jerusalem thank you very much indeed let's take you back now to ramallah needs or are you still with us can you confirm that you and your guests are ok. yes the guest has fled she when she heard the bullets we are calling her now to make sure that she made it to safety but the team now is in the car and we've heard bullets but these seem to be from the place where some of the protesters and people who were looking out on the side of the journalists i mean and those who were looking at the protest it seems that there is some sort of an armed exchange of fire going on here and. we saw the israeli army fire
4:08 pm
bullets and then it has caused lots and lots of passing means to flee the scene so we are we're trying to confirm what's going on but i've seen tens and tens of people who are just by the journalists and just looking at the protest duck and tell us that they're hearing bullets that are coming from their side so maybe some palestinian palestinians who are armed were trying to shoot 2 words that is really . who are near the legal israeli settlement of mattel and it says worth pointing out of course. all the press are there are clearly so you're aware. of flak jackets there are clearly signs press that there is very much concerned that you and other media colleagues have been caught in the crossfire there where. we understand you're in the car and i need you're trying to get to safety there seems
4:09 pm
to be a big certainly a lot of commotion going on in the live pictures that we're actually carrying live on al-jazeera you've been on the site all morning though just talk us through the the emotions of the people who were there in the middle of this general strike because the atmosphere has turned quite nasty has it no. i can also see palestinians cheering i'm not sure what's going on 2 words near the protest but many of them have been telling us over today and over the past few days that they've been. proud and they're seeing a sense of hope because of the unique team that is resembled in this general strike it's not only the palestinians in the occupied west bank that are. protesting but also those in jerusalem as well as palestinians in israel so they were telling us that while these latest rounds. collation has sparked
4:10 pm
these protests also they want to complain and they want to fight against the israeli occupation that has been going on for years and years. so this is why these palestinians say they want to take to the streets they want to take part in. these protests although they know that the balance of power is with israel. you're looking at some of the pictures some of the scenes from the protests. here there are certainly something being fired into the air we are not seeing the courage to spare saying. clear before it's going on right now but certainly you are seeing there are signs of cheering something being fires in the air if it does appears to be. violence environments for fears are not perhaps very familiar with the area where the those
4:11 pm
pictures are being broadcast from just talk us through this area why have to tester's decided to come in here what's the significance of this location. so this is one of the confrontation points with the israeli army there is a truck point that is usually linking all those coming from the north of the west bank into ramallah but also there is a very important building which is near the illegal israeli settlement of better which is called the civil administration or the cool guy which is the coordinator of government activities in the territory that's the israeli term for it which is a building that one palestinian official has said that whoever is in charge of it is the defacto prime minister of the palestinians there is a building where many palestinians go to get their permits to be able to get even
4:12 pm
to hospitals in east jerusalem or inside israel so it kind of resembles the the occupation and that's why it's one of the confrontation points this is not the only confrontation point here in the occupied west bank there are protests going on in several areas and qalqilya in nablus and in and around nablus also i don't nab this is where many palestinians tell us that they feel a settler attacks nablus the area has been one of the most targeted areas in the west bank i'm seeing more and more protesters going back to where they came from. we're trying to confirm whether the palestinians were cheering just a few minutes ago because they believe that there is an israeli soldier who was wounded ok well that's certainly something that we should try and see if we can
4:13 pm
stand up the soon as possible needs. you are coming to us from a place of safety but still near ramallah in the occupied west bank here we're going to let you find out more about that situation very fluid of yours can see we're going to try and find out more about what's happening in that area will bring its you as soon as we possible can thank you need to know it's really police say that 2 more people have been killed by rockets launched from gaza palestinian factions far to targeting ashdod ashkelon and beersheba at least 14 people were injured in those attacks more than 3000 rockets have been launched since the offensive began 12 people in israel have now been killed including 2 children. and this is the scene showing the immediate aftermath of the israeli air strikes in
4:14 pm
gaza hundreds of buildings have been to straw it including 6 hospitals and 9 primary health care centers the u.n. says more than 52000 palestinians have been displaced. saud let's take you back to ramallah. these are more live pictures coming to us from ramallah i'm working. so. i'm not entirely clear what's happening here but there have been lots of protests happening in this area. so these these pictures. soon i was so i understand i people are now being evacuated from that process that was the process site that our correspondents. need
4:15 pm
abraham was reporting from there was a barrel of fire a she was telling us the fire was being. coming from behind where they were reports saying. so the journalists in that instance were indeed caught in the crossfire. needs and it seemed to have been evacuated to safety our ever as you can see a very dangerous situation still unfolding there processors clearly some people clearly have been injured in that area. and we should see the. people have been evacuated from that site and taken to safety i don't have any figures for you on how many people have been injured 6 who has been injured we are still trying to find their sites but this is that process sites. near ramallah.
4:16 pm
this is all taking place on a day of general strike. that looks like that looks like. israeli soldiers who are patrolling that area. so. so here we again another shot from the area we have processors milling around in the ramallah and there on the stage of course we house palestinians have been. there been responding to a call for a general strike and as we've heard from lead a parade him. they were telling us. the general feeling before this before this. these clashes about this it was the protesters were very happy with the fact that it seems many people from across the occupied territories
4:17 pm
and ones. from inside israel itself many people were marking this general strike there was a feeling of solidarity but there was that volley of gunfire that happened to soon as our correspondents came live on air with us. we do understand that some people have been injuries. but i i so want to know at this point how many people who are financially is. still trying to establish what has happened and say here let's see if we can talk next you need to bring him. need to do you have us and can you tell us more about what's been happening at that protest site near ramallah. we are still seeing some protesters around the area where they where before but many of them has had
4:18 pm
fled the numbers are definitely becoming much less than they were a just a few minutes ago and we're still trying to confirm what happened we're still hearing fire being a shot from the side of the israeli army from the israeli soldiers but we've heard palestinians choose. at what looks like a wounded israeli soldier so we're trying to confirm that now as we are looking very few protesters many of the people who are here looking. at the confrontations of left we've seen children families and they probably wouldn't expecting to be endangered because we are at. over looking the confrontation so we're not directly there which is why we believe people brought their families than the children with them here ok and i'm hearing that 2 people
4:19 pm
have been injured. we're hearing that people are like i could have been injured i don't have a confirmation on the israeli soldier yet images we're bringing you this is agency fees from the associated press it does look like this still a commotion going on there. just on the point of all of the injury hala my producer is confirming to me that there is one palestinian who is just wounded now so we can confirm that. when it comes to the feelings of these protesters they tell you that they're not only. protesting to support their fellow palestinians in the gaza strip but also because they're fed up of years and years of the continued israeli occupation these people have been born around 1990 s. and that's when the palestinian authority was established and that's when they've
4:20 pm
been hearing from the leader is that there is going to be having statehood and freedom and all of what they have been seeing is that their lives are getting worse and their lands are being taken by the illegal israeli settlements so the very states that they were hoping to stop. abolition these lads are being taken for the the settlements now i'm being told from our own yahoos looking at the confrontations that soldiers who are on the hill closer to the protesters have pulled back. that could be a sign that they are expecting more armed. conflict more armed. more reinforcements to come in. here or probably that so we're we're just keeping an eye on what's going on on the ground but this is definitely going to read driving in to the
4:21 pm
protesters here i mean it's going to be causing more palestinians to leave the scene because many have been saying that they want to take part in popular resistance they want they want to. stand against israeli occupation in peaceful protests so maybe now we're going to see people who are leaving because they're scared for their families and we know that the israeli army is armed to the teeth so it's very hard for palestinians who don't have equipment or training or or even an army to to be standing here in the protests. as a bridge that showing you this picture as if where israeli soldiers are taking out there who made their positions this is. on the hill so for
4:22 pm
viewers watching this we've got live pictures there of the israeli soldiers you could see them just between. those those trees. so this is. just reveres just joining us we have an eye. freak of violence the process near ramallah. there has been there has been a night break of violence. has happened about 15 minutes ago we know that one palestinian has been injured we're still trying to confirm whether or not one israeli soldier has been injured in these confrontations other certainly a volley of fire from. the israeli soldiers but also i understand these are the some of the 7 firing behinds you and the other media along the where the palestinians were protesting so
4:23 pm
a potentially very dangerous situation there as the protesters some of the protesters have moved away. need to just give us a sense of his and missing develops what else is going on where you are. in the still scene of chaos somehow where we are hearing the sounds of bullets we're not sure where they're coming from there definitely less than before but we are seeing less and less palestinians in the sight of the oldest there are 2. ambulances and we're trying to whip out helmets and leave the car to kind of have a better look at what's going on. it seems that the army is making it in what we can hear going going to her english and their needs. and the this is the
4:24 pm
tear gas there are throwing extensively tear gas at the protest there is water now running away and fleeing from them. so it seems like the israeli army is going to make its way towards where the protesters are. at least that's what we're trying to analyze from they extend. incivil you see here got on a case to relook at not really if we're looking at the pictures there all of it doesn't like an extensive amount of tear gas has not been fired into that valley. tear gas canister visser being dropped from drones there and of it's a clear protesters. moment that process lights in the air a model others can see it was in the background there like an olive tree has caught fire. started as an attempt to get this protest serious away from that area that we can see people moving towards. and i'm just looking at the pictures
4:25 pm
that we're seeing trying to lure someone into the back of an ambulance some clearly ensure their political. certainly very sick that closed off tear gas not summer you would want to be spending an awful lot of time. still lots of people crazy of right in there so the israeli army are trying to clear protesters form that area. we saw in those pictures it looks like one other person getting moves or to insert an ambulance has there been any updates on the number of people who have been injured it's. and a dozen signs likely have a connection see needs. needs or conies so here is. the 2 i am with you hala can you hear me yes we can we can hear you now.
4:26 pm
so we're trying to get the latest from the palestinian health ministry they say that at the palestine medical hospital which is in ramallah they've received 14 palestinians who were injured throughout the day and that 2 of them are in a critical condition here in ramallah we're trying to confirm now in the total of those palestinians who were injured in protests in the occupied west bank is 27 according to the latest update but those are the ones who are here we're talking about 14 we've seen as you just mentioned hala the protesters trying to help a wounded person and to get them to the ambulance with hearing the ambulances make their way towards it i'm alone. and we're seeing protesters go back to the scene after the effects of the tear gas have faded away. i'm being
4:27 pm
told me to the library instead been fires is that something that you have been able to confirm. that live friends have been fired i was protesters near ramallah. we've been hearing since the morning. sorry since the afternoon with since we came here live rounds being shot at the protesters and according to the palestinian health ministry the majority of those that are in the hospitals right now are hit by live ammunition by the israeli forces in that exchange of fire that we've seen on air just a few minutes ago it's not clear whether the israeli army has wounded anyone. those who we believe were shocked shooting towards the israeli army so it's true still unsure what's going not what happened in that regard but we're hearing more and more sounds what is the. here guy. we're trying to figure out as does
4:28 pm
this here again as i'm rubber coated steel bullets that is the that are being fired so when she's gets asters a very dramatic pictures coming in to us. we . we are continuing to bring you. pictures of this process. it's a human place near ramallah. and most of ambulances trying to get on the scene would certainly implied that a number of people have been injured. and the science that we can hear in the back garden says. there will certainly a lot of this here gas canisters have been fired in a bid to try and clear princess toure's from that area. also hearing that live friends have been fired and of course the israeli army have
4:29 pm
also been firing rubber coated steel bullets the people in the orange jackets that you can oh dear of the people in the orange shack it's the you can see your screen army medics. who are trying to survive wounds are just people. there as there's a course of this is these are live pictures these are coming to us from the associated press they're trying the medics are trying to get people inside those ambulances and clearly a number of people have been injured. trying to load and see the. consumers ambulances and see if they can get them to a place of safety. not clear at this stage how many people have been injured or certainly very violent scenes have been unfolding down at the true test
4:30 pm
sites know as nader was explaining so as earlier this is a day of general strike there was certainly an atmosphere of a festive atmosphere earlier in the day protesters had express. a certain amounts of happiness that this general strike had been there was a lot of solidarity being shown towards this general strike at but it has turned violent certainly shots were being fires from behind our correspondents life position when we joined at the top of this news hour. now we can see some of those ambulances have managed to leave the scene and many people are still milling around in that area. i can't tell you at the stage had many people have been injured but. clearly i've seen at least seen people being moved into the back of ambulances do we still have these abraham we don't have our correspondent there
4:31 pm
4:32 pm
the old oh whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa ok so vast that is the scene there were still bringing you these live pictures from at 7 model that is another person getting moved into onto a stretcher. so there has clearly been an am number of injuries here just to recap there has been life fire that side but we don't know wilson which side the line of fire came it's we don't know if it was the israeli military we don't know if it was the protests or is just sit to be clear on that there have been live friends fired we do not know at the state. fire those live friends let's check back in with me to every human need to what more do you know at this stage. we're told one palestinian with numerous increasing by the argument
4:33 pm
that it now they want to be open and even the money of their own i mean we have been firm according to the company how committed to get people have been in a period near it in the long run we 'd knew we would want a guy who between here and the people who are looking at why people were wounded in camp crame that week but that number can buy in june through 29 pounds to lose what he did leave there you see it on the p.p. now with being little who need it in the. form of need a car some of the. well looking at. the army. and they are we making it look. ok so just to confirm those figures where he needs the health ministry saying that 16 people have
4:34 pm
been injured. and you're saying that you've seen people being transferred into ambulances is that is that correct. according. to one of them are in the. people in the critical condition you have been injured to so most of movement their. protests. a definite change in atmosphere has to be said in the last 30 minutes or so and this is there any indication at this stage what happens why did this turn from. a strike to protest why has it turned violent so this extends. we're. in you.
4:35 pm
4:36 pm
these people they are throwing it looks like throwing rocks at us armored truck. an armored truck that has been showing tear gas firing tear gas at those protests was very thick clouds of smoke there was another another person injured. that is another person injured being carried away from the scene. and you can hear in the back and a lot of signs. of sirens going certainly ambulances trying to make it down. to. those who being injured in those clashes. and you can see that clyde's it's here gas are rising up from the grains and this is a closer shot that these are still my picture is. quite close to an ambulance there's
4:37 pm
you can see they were trying to get a casualties who would say it's in an ambulance to try and take them away and then later abraham a correspondent was confirming that 4 people are in a critical condition. and some 16 people let's say at least 16 people have been insurance in these cash is that process i side with my life. as difficult for that i'm given since it's a get out of that scene a lot of people crowding round there trying to get. the injured people. away from that site i need to you have been covering this process all day no way. just to give us a sense of people who were talking about protests like were saying today. people have been telling me. that they feel that they're being i
4:38 pm
think that they're good for coca-cola that they're not the. same to support a policy with a big dog if. it's under fire. because they want. to begin to be a patient in the. violations when it comes to looting that will kill things clear and the like bank or different thing with the fact. that there is again when we help you see that we believe that. maybe the main goal is to make light still difficult for them and they have no option but to leave policy we've heard that many radio shows. i mean. my thing. building. there's a great britain and the west bank he would say that this is our man we're building
4:39 pm
an iron and so for palestinians you know that many of them have been telling us that you know the palestinian authority has signed an agreement with as you know. in the 99 peace really between and and that has led to the establishment of the top 14 has been given a boost of. your very limited sovereignty. they believe is not. human. didn't want to happen to protect the plethora of the sun which is now israel and leaves. the company looked over to find not anomalies and not part of it is now comprised of. by black mangled. when we were new york that you went and looked back you. need to add where there are just who are. all we understand that palestinians had
4:40 pm
fired live shots at an israeli droon this is what we're being told palestinians and far line shots at an israeli drone and. and the israelis a fired back this is what appears to have sparked this confrontation there have been exchanges of gunfire in and near ramallah process site so this is. this is what started this writings all of violence. again media you are saying says that it was 4 people in a critical condition. sit at least 16 people have been injured in an exchange of fire. certainly very violent scenes that were showing our viewers know live pictures near ramallah you can hear the sirens in the
4:41 pm
backgrounds. needs when the atmosphere changed so after this is really drawn misfired asin the israelis a fired by just talk us through those moments certainly a lot of confusion when the violence broke out. now even more towards a group that believes. we are dealing with truth. we're not sure if we and or not how could you know him that you do if you are if we knew he would run into a little group and look like they're on the moon and not really were. and you really get to. be really. great. and try. our beauty but we can't compare and not. want to believe the minute that we're
4:42 pm
doing or the really poor looking like. are. being. more. ok i made it with. the further clarification of this i mean this is the order of events as we understand that. protesters have sent fireworks to distract and it's really. have sent up fireworks to distract an israeli drone and then the is really fired live ammunition. and then the palestinians fired back so this is the. this is what we understand what happens far works percentile distracts a drone the israelis far back could live ammunition then the palestinians
4:43 pm
far back in return. have nothing new nothing like the units in the beginning of the crew to regroup we got here. and went into our community and i don't. believe. you know the new leaders who. point out what is the party of what happened believe me. has there been any updates his soul needs on the number of. people who were injured in those clashes. we're seeing pictures here of. the israeli military. on the move. not entirely sure what is happening at need to just bring us up to
4:44 pm
date more explosions going off in the background. just give us the number of people who have been injured in this. in this recent outbreak of violence at least 16 people in forward a critical condition is there any updates on those fake is. really. coming why. don't. really. mind that we. are talking about. when. the war.
4:45 pm
really grown. so well that. a lot of pictures are showing just night so you've seen the farmer it's being said some really brutal. and it's here gas canisters being dropped in return and that's here gas that's being used tear gas is standing very close to an ambulance to be said that. you were saying earlier he says very very strong tear gas is quite toxic. thank you. it. really hard to. call the.
4:46 pm
problem. now the. problem. the pictures that we're bringing you are from our arabic colleagues we believe we're looking at israeli soldiers that are taking up positions. highlighting. i think really soldiers. see what we're looking at here there. are these. this is these are still pictures from from al-jazeera arabic so. i think.
4:47 pm
it's really soldiers that we can see on the horizon and taking cover underneath beneath that tree this is all happening just to remind fears. just to remind our viewers. we were with. need to bring him. she was. she was in severe guess at the top of the hour from those protests that were being. those process that were being held. of ramallah. the protesters had sent up fireworks to distract a drone drop in that had been flying above the processed sites of those drones can dispatch tear gas what had happened was palestinians had sent up fireworks to distract the drone that was
4:48 pm
they had said and so. far it says a strike that drone and that drone. then the israelis had fired back live ammunition and the palestinians had fired back so an exchange of live fire there from both the israeli sides and the palestinian side speaking with these abraham after she moved to safety with and have since learned that 16 people have been injured. 4 people we understand are in critical condition so. dramatic footage there. we're showing you pictures more pictures from the protests today this is from a little earlier process there looks like some of the sling shots penetrates.
4:49 pm
need to be so with this. yes yes ok so we're. we're bringing our viewers the latest images of a protest site we've got some young men throwing rocks. back live pictures there from ramallah to be no any more of injury numbers of that exchange of fire there from the process location where you were a layer. we're not the number. of fire numbers from the. engine over all. it can be more than $100.00 it's. carried by pumping and that's less than. the number of. them have to do so maybe some are on the ways. from the top to the intel community but like.
4:50 pm
many people do what i find many. are in critical condition now we. live by do they are we needed to get to know most people that will be ready you might already be thinking positively and. for. a fire now if you didn't like. being married a house and every once in a while there aren't much. in the west bank. that exists are needs to be. tried. as much as. anything can. happen though i do want to know why the 2nd.
4:51 pm
falls off. the garden. and they need to jump in the rubric spurge bringing our viewers pictures from bethlehem. apologize if any of you aspire to stressing that was bad news for. police lately military had so. we're arresting a protester. i counted about at least 4 tops 5 police officers 100. the processor's heads in a headlock because they were dragging him towards the van. we're nice showing more process in bethlehem in the occupied west bank there are tires
4:52 pm
being burdens. and i think we can hear gunfire in the shots. so this is. the so this is bethlehem in the 5 west bank and then we've got something being fired there from police vehicle. and as you can see so that might be more of those tear gas canisters being fired on protesters significance of mines of tear gas. and before that clients of small kamar just what's more. lost processors running away you can see. there hurtling rocks in the direction of this imagery that many will be familiar with. arms cars armored vehicles firing sophisticated weaponry. and some young
4:53 pm
men hurling back rocks in return. so this is best. in the occupied west bank. after fierce watching this on television you can see fires burning in the foreground thick black smoke on the wall of this here dance. we're trying to reach our correspondents here is in the battle for him right now as these pictures that you're seeing that supposes vehicle moving affronts in fact the camera position as the tear gas starts to feed so you can see in the background again more ambulances trying to get into the scenes. more cry against of people in the background some. protesters there who have gathered see have been pushed back by about wall of tear gas and are trying to make
4:54 pm
their way back so wards. the front lines. and more burning in the foreground these protests taking place across. across the occupied territories. and. this is called the day of a general strike hearing then that israeli security forces have a rest since. we saw that just as we came across to those pictures. in bethlehem israeli security forces arresting a palestinian live on air and as we saw the arrests are made one police officer had his arm wraps around the protesters there were at least 4. police officers arresting this one individual and certainly after we've all been through and

covered the story over unfold the story of the george ford protester have been a lot of it's has been a lot of attention paid to the use of force by the police when it comes to arrest saying that what is a proportionate use of force is that proportionate. to wrap your 100 someone's neck and drag them or fists proportionate to have a knee on a protesters neck for opponents and period of time. so there we are violence arrests. the palestinian in bethlehem live on air and you've will have seen the amount of tear gas being used to disperse those protests. the air starting to clear but more things are being burned on the roads there. more protesters coming back on the streets in bethlehem so what started off a general strike to send it to violence. let's see if we can hear in

a form our correspondents howie forces have a year reporting from bethlehem in the occupied west bank at sadler's what you have been seeing. during the day. where you were very close to the very close to that position that you were just talking about the the other live camera the agency camera that's here so we've been witnessing very close quarters exactly the same thing what was happening was a group of young palestinian men there are 2 roads behind us that sort of triangulate on this point which is also where there is an israeli military base set into the separation wall with a watchtower you can see that it's just next to me and so this is where the friction always pretty much always takes place in bethlehem at times like this and so along these 2 roads there have been stones being thrown from both sides of the of the road and the palestinian group got within maybe 5070 meters with a pretty consistent tick of stones and after

a while the israeli military moved out to russia they fell upon one of them and as you saw in those pictures took him away there's also been a lot of tear gas fire there was a similar incident a little earlier and just in front of us here a sniper team set up lying on the ground with protesters on the other side of the smoke in their sights now we've got a water cannon that seems now about to come into to operation number. of israeli troops heading out towards the protesters this is be going on for some hours now and it has been a story of approach hand response and then retreat and it is likely. to continue for some time as well as the tactics that we're seeing now the ones that you've just seen as well the terms of that pretty violent detention. we've also seen and heard a lot of use of why fire stun grenades

a hand of rubber coated steel bullets. latest update we had from the health and well personality here who monitor the casualties we've seen hundreds of coming and going to latest because we have it i think already probably out of date 9 people palestinians have been injured by live fire several others have been injured by rubber bullets at least one of them. has had the rubber coated steel bullets and to the flesh of his leg and then dozens more have been taken away with tear gas inhalation injuries to services as i say a scene that is i think said to continue it's also seen a tripling to of the frustration. it seems we've been seeing in jerusalem and gaza and the continuing pressure and just the boiling point that things are greek to recent days and you talk about this this is someone who's been being treated for

tear gas inhalation so as we speak carry we're showing our viewers pictures we understand one truck. is a water cannon the other is firing tear gas the tear gas that's being you is is this just regular tear gas or is it is that more toxic quite strong i mean are there grades of tear gas that have been fired in these instances. i mean you know i can't give you a full analysis but i can certainly say that i've experienced. most of my career without jazeera in asia before coming here and this isn't this isn't present stuff in comparison to to what i've experienced elsewhere as well is that. there is a consistent use especially in occupied east jerusalem. but other places too of what they call the stone water chemically laced water which is deliberately made. just to be as foul smelling and as picture it out as long lasting as possible i'm not

sure what is inside that white truck behind this but. we'll probably find out pretty soon if the wind is going in the right direction and they decide to use it to green humvees there with the sort of arrays on the roof because of the tear gas firing vehicles and we have seen several very very sustained concentrated uses of that tear gas so it's not just the occasional gas create that you might be used to seeing especially near outposts like ours of media this is when they really swarm our location with masses and masses of the stuff as you say it is also pretty powerful stuff and i think that accounts for. the kind of injury numbers autumn's a tear gas that we're seeing i think we just turned on to the to the water cannon truck which seems to be at one sitting there all advancing slowly now so.
