the the, the, the, the. well, the bill, how may i spoke to you? barbara? jerry just stopped. hurley. she says she's been bod from reporting and checked her off a 15 days and explained what happened after she was taken by the police. they said before that they don't know me in the car, they began to speak to the leader. we have the as you bought the, the bed before. so they know me. they, you know, only the, i'm sure that's i,

my journalist inside i was treated like a criminal and one of the soldiers came and he told me, they lie all the time. everything is wrong. i said, no, it doesn't lie. they just give the people everything just just as is as it is after 7 all the it's i was, i don't know how much time because they took from me everything. they refused to take the call from me. they said either at us or 15 days away from us. so i know they said that as the beginning, they said that i checked it and soldier, when they saw all the june and everything was changed that maybe she tried to defense. her says and to minutes everything was changed because of the video evidence. yes, yes. and then they said, okay,
5:04 am
you will be away from the 15 days. but no, i think as we will say, we will go to the law because it's because it was a message for all every, all the juniors. we kicked it out. we put, we put our hand so everybody will be afraid and nobody will cover. no, we will cover everything and all the julia. so have you been charged or is it just now released with this condition of not covering ships or raw? 15 days just for 15 days and maybe later there would be a court maybe. and for you guys, all that clear message to all journalists, right? yes. it was clear that they out of freight from from it from all the june of every, with everybody. everyone was working on the blog, the outfits from him, while adam shapiro from frontline defenders. he says, israeli police have
5:05 am
a history of using this kind of violence against journalists. what's interesting is that this is happening against palestinian journalists, who are part of international media networks. we're covering the protests shut off, even as there are foreign journalists there are not receiving the so i think, in addition to the message being sent to journalists generally, specifically, particularly after years off bombs. and there's also a message to palestinian journalist specifically about reporting and covering the palestinian uprising during the last few weeks. it's clear that there is been a change in the global media coverage of what's happening as palestinian voices are being given more space in the media in print and in other places. and in particular on social media. despite efforts to sensor them, really government is feeling pressure in part because and so i think there is kind of a, a message being sent by the commanders in israel to take out journalists to arrest
5:06 am
them, to remove them. or in worst case scenario to their buildings. or i think it's important that the, at the, not just the level of the journalists on the ground, but at the level of the headquarters and the level of the producers and the, the administration of these networks that they speak out. not only to israeli officials and file complaints but also to other government western. ready and complaints that it's also their networks. it's also their journalists, their employees or subject to this kind of kind of information effect. countries that normally promote and protect freedom of the press. the g 7 group of advanced economies as reached a landmark deal, making it harder for the world biggest companies to avoid paying taxes. members have agreed to set a minimum 15 percent global corporate tax threshold in countries where they generate that business instead of siphoning. profits of shaw into tax havens. lavaca has moved from london tax. randy gets pulses racing. but after 2 days of
5:07 am
master mass talks in london, a commitment by g 7, finance ministers to for some of the riches companies in the world into paying their fair share. well, i'm delighted to announce that today of the discussion g 7, finance ministers have reached a historic agreement to reform the global tax system to make it fit for the global digital age. but crucially, to make sure that it's fast, many countries are desperate to plug holes in their finances caused by the coven 19 pandemic. while many nations have been thinking deeper into debt, the pandemic was a windfall for big tech companies such as amazon and google. the raked in huge profit by the moment companies build on earnings in the countries where they operate. this old way of doing things is no longer fit for purpose, largely because it's exploited widely by multinational companies that operate in various different competing tax owns. all they need to do is declare their profits
5:08 am
where the tax is lowest or indeed whether no tax is a tool and it's all completely legal. but g 7 finance been to say now's the time to level the playing field by introducing a flat 15 percent rate on businesses to help pay back and demick debt that global minimum tax within the race to the bottom. corporate taxation and ensure fairness because the middle class and working people in the us and around the world, tex evasion, will be more difficult for big companies all over the world. this is a good message for the people of our country and especially the big tech guy in giants who have to pay their fair share. google that's been bracing for a global tax hike for some time. so they strongly supported the work being done to update international tax rules and in hopes countries continue to work together to ensure a balance endurable agreement will be finalized soon. well, facebook said it wanted the international tax reform process to succeed,
5:09 am
while recognizing it could mean paying more tax in different places. the big challenge now comes, we getting enough economies on board to make the plan work, including countries such as island, where low corporate tax rates have entice several big businesses, including google to build a european headquarters there was good for the g. 7 may not satisfy all talks, will continue at the g 20 summit later this year. the broker, i'll just sarah london. so let's bring in jim anderson, he's a tech analyst and ceo of social flow. he joins a fly from new york city, said jim, how significant then is this global tax deal reached by the g 7? i mean, it's been described as historic, but why did they want to change the rules anyway? well, i think it is significant for big tech. big techs, big concern is anti trust, honestly and predictability is what they and all big companies want. so i think what they see, and one of the reasons you're seeing companies like facebook and google respond
5:10 am
positively as they see both predictability and sort of an understandable path as to where they're going to go. and they also see a lessening of anti trust scrutiny. it doesn't mean it'll go away entirely, but in general, as has taxation, revenue rises, anti trust, concern tends to drop from big companies. in many countries, jim have grappled with this issue of corporate tax avoidance, particularly with big companies like amazon, facebook. but when these big companies just find new ways to pay less tax anyway. well, of course they well, right? and maybe you could argue that they're playing by the rules that are given to them . right. and you mentioned ireland as a tax haven. so i think it is important to recognize it's a great start for the g 7 tab and agreement. if they can expand it to the g 20 and beyond and companies are going to always play by the rules that are out there. and if they can find a way to pay less taxes, for the most part, they're going to do that. and that's pretty understandable. but again, big tech knows that it has a political problem, right? there is a concern about privacy, there's a concern about taxation, there's
5:11 am
a concern about anti trust. so this is only one of the multiple things that big tech companies are dealing with. and i think they probably would gladly pay more in taxes if they get less than the risk on those other $2.00 front. yeah, and the g 7. gym have also agreed in principle to the global minimum corporate tax rate of 15 percent to prevent other countries under coughing each other, but what's stopping other countries outside the g 7 from offering more competitive tax rates? nothing. i think you just hit the nail on the head. i mean, if you look in your report, you quoted janet yell and talking about the race to the bottom, the us treasury secretary. so i think that's the concern, but there's always some countries out there in the interest of economic development and jobs that are willing to offer deals. and there's really nothing to stop them. i think either the big tech companies have a certain, you know, workforce and certain expectations, you know, they may very well choose to invest in countries that offer them deals. but i think this is a pretty big step in the right direction. and again, i think you're going to continue to see the big tech companies be generally in favor of this. jim, just
5:12 am
a final thought to you. you mentioned this g 20 meeting next month. so is this new g 7 tax deal like to put pressure on other countries like russia, china, and brazil to follow suit? well, i don't know if it'll put pressure on them. i mean, they'll certainly take, notice that, you know, everybody is going to act in their own interest in. so russia and china, in particular, are going to decide what's good for russia and china. and it may turn out that they're willing to get on your, on board with it again, you know, i think the big tech companies, at least facebook and google don't have a big presence in either of those. you know, apple is a different story and apple has, you know, huge tax implications and is a big player in china. so i wouldn't necessarily say they're going to follow this template, but it's certainly going to be that kind of thing that you know, other countries take note of and we'll have to watch the d 20 very closely. jemison good to get your thoughts. thank you very much. indeed, talking to rogers there. thanks, jim. thank time for a short break here, and i'll just say are when we come back iran 7 presidential candidates face off on tv in the 1st round of the next debate. we'll tell you why the skies about paris

a republican appointed federal judge and it has quite upset gun control advocates. and if you just read the opening line of this ruling, you might see why judge roger benita has rights like the swiss army knife. the popular a r 15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment. he goes on to rule that this 32 year old ban in california on the purchase of assault weapons to be unconstitutional because it violates the 2nd amendment rights for americans to bear arms. now this ruling was cheered by pro gun advocates, who notably during the pandemic americans have been buying guns at historic rates. and as really has outrage to state leaders in california, who noted the irony that the ruling that came down on friday was the same day as national gun violence awareness day in the united states. and this ruling come just

a little over a week after a man in california shot and killed 9 of his co workers at a transit yard. so let's talk to non a gm fish. he's a human rights attorney and president of the national conference of black lawyers and joins us live from los angeles in california, 9 a good to have you on the program. so look, the judge roger benita says if so, weapons ban violates the 2nd amendment right to bear arms and deprives californians from owning assault weapons allowed in other states. how significant briefly do you think the ruling in is and if that's a big setback for gun control? campaigners do you think the ruling is really significant in the sense that 1st of all, it pushes back 30 years of precedent in terms of what california believe is what we should be doing with respect to assault rifle. but it also is a turning point in a way or could be a turning point about the way that the 2nd amendment is used to push back against
5:20 am
such assault band assault rifle bands in this country. we know this is not about an assault rifle ban and in terms of the 2nd amendment, this is really about getting access to guns to civilian white people in the tradition of the foundation of his country. and what we've seen in terms of mass shootings and white supremacists violence. yeah. and the worrying thing now is that they are 15, has been the weapon of choice for most violent mass killings in the us. i mean, massive like sandy hook parkland showed this kind of weapon actually puts more people in danger. absolutely. when you look at the words that the judges use it, it's virtually that based in reality, you do not need this weapon in order to defend your home. and unfortunately, sadly, therefore, branches of the military spending trillions of our dollars in order to defend the homeland. so you don't need this weapon for that either. this is a weapon that is used to attack people to attack people in mass shooting to

attacked people in massage parlors, asian women to attack black folks and black brown folks throughout this country. that's what this weapon is for. and to say anything different is not to be in reality. i'm california governor governor new. some has described the ruling as a threat to public safety and the state is appealing that ruling. i mean, your legal expert is the routing likely to be overturn? do you think it really depends. i think that it is likely to be overturned just because of the dangerous precedent that it's set. basically, what the court says at this level is that because it's not the military rifle, right? because it's not the same as what the military use is that it's not dangerous. and he compares it to a swiss army knife for goodness sake. and that cannot be allowed to stand if in fact they intend to not have the be the complete wild, wild west, not just in california, but all rule this country. not
