rights group say security forces have killed at least a 149 people. since the takeover, including dozens of children, un spokesmen, stefan yardage says that must stop. for me and more, the un country team there says they remain deeply concerned over the continued use of force against children they call and security forces to refrain from violence and keep children and young people out of harm's way. the u. s. children's fun said that 56 children have reportedly been killed by security forces since to be getting them. since the military took control of the government. schools have now become targets in me and mars armed forces continue to occupy educational facilities across the country. the army blames the anti military alliance peoples defense forces for the attacks. but the pdf says pro jones to militias of the ones attacking schools to discredit the opposition will save the children says there are
12:13 pm
more than $100.00 attacks on schools in may alone. it's believed most of the incidents involved explosive devices such as bombs and hand guns, hand grenades rather the charity says, since the military coup education has been blighted by political strife and conflict with daily attacks and widespread teacher lay off. local media have suggested just one in for children returned to school since they officially reopen on the 1st of june. david mathewson is an independent analyst on me and mom. he says, the responsibility is on the military, john to not to go anywhere near schools. well, the same, the children said, i mean somebody like 12000000 children around the country in effected 1st by the pandemic last year. and now in the aftermath of the 2 and the fact, there are soldiers and police actually taking up positions within that schools for various reasons and making so target of attacks from this rising resistance around the country. but the responsibility really is on the security forces not to go
12:14 pm
anywhere in the schools and actually to allow children and teachers to actually go to school in safety. so this is another invitation i think, and occupying forces me on my military throughout the country post. it's been a major disruption for the majority of children around the country. and i think post crew this is just compounding at the fact that there is all of this violence and the fact that it's the military, the capital that's actually making schools and students. and this should be deplored around the world and far more precious should be put on the site administration council and sat middle to cease and desist and stay away from schools and from children throughout the country. well, i think this report should actually redouble efforts on the part of the united nations and international community to put found the pressure on the site administration council. and this should be information that really shines a lot of people around the world than not doing enough to put pressure on the military regime. the fact that that children are now in the firing live in bama ways, and they have been an in decades of conflict,
12:15 pm
should be really allow me to the international community. and i think this is something that should be taken up in the security council. and many other venues around the world. the still ahead on al jazeera addressing the racism against communities of color, holding the police accountable the race to become new york city's top prosecutor. so one of the most diverse in recent times, will meet the front runners and china's mars rover beams, bank images to us of the martian surface. ah, ah. hello there. let's start in se, asia, and it's a very wet picture with more wet weather to come knows one soon rains, affecting parts of indo china, me and my things really to wrenching down ports as well as southern parts of

back here watching out just a time to recap all headlines now. u. k prime minister bars, johnson says g 7 nations are expected to donate 1000000000 current of virus vaccine . the low income countries. half of it is coming from the us. president joe biden already promising 500000000 doses, but activists say is still far from enough to meet needs. g 7 leaders will meet in cornwall in the u. k. in a few hours for the day, one of the 3 day summit, the talks will be dominated by vaccine diplomacy, climate change, and rebuilding the global economy. it's the 1st stop and joe biden. first, international trip is president to charity save the children says the tax on me and more schools are on the rise as we continue to occupy educational facilities following the fed recoup. the un is calling for an end, provide them again children. britain's foreign minister says china is broken,
12:19 pm
it's legal obligations to guarantee freedoms for hong kong. in a newly released report, dominic rob says beijing is made clear breaches of the 984 joint declaration signed by china and the u. k. he criticized the national security law imposed last year saying it's being used to stifle political opposition. hong kong government says the remarks are inaccurate and couldn't be further from the truth. authorities in hong kong of announced expanded power the sense of films. busy the government will vac activity. it says these quotes endangering national security. critics say beijing is increasingly imposing mainland style controls of arts and culture and hong kong. keith richberg is the director of the university of hong kong journalism and media study center. he joins us now live from hong kong. so this change in
12:20 pm
policy is a change happening to the film, censorship ordinance law. first of all, i mean this has been around for many years for a long time. this is not something that just started last year with the introduction of the, of the new national security law. right. but how is that now being completely changed from what it was originally introduced to do? good question. the original film, censorship guidelines here said basically the censorship authority should censor any films that dealt with by violence, sexual oppression. you know, anything that glorified racism or religious extremism, that kind of thing. pretty much things that are on the books in other countries around the world. but you know, hong kong, always enjoyed a white degree of artistic freedom for filmmakers and film distributors to show all kinds of films here. although you might see graphics that seems pornography
12:21 pm
censored, that kind of thing. so this is a major step now because they've now, since the passage one year ago, almost one year ago, the national security law. they're now adding these national security categories into things that should be censored along with pornography, excessive violence, et cetera. and that's where it gets interesting stroke confusing. i mean, is it clear now what exactly is considered a breach of national security? because when you read some of the wording on this, it says the sense that has a responsibility to basically safeguard the sovereignty, the territorial integrity of, of china. i mean, how can that be interpreted very, very widely. and that's why it's such a are very strange, a new guideline that's out there because it doesn't really clearly state what these terms mean. i mean, it's hard for some of us to believe that
12:22 pm
a film could endanger the national security of a powerful, wealthy country like china. but here's what it says and excuse me for looking down because i want to get the wording exactly here is the sensor should be vigilant to the betrayal of any activity which may amount to an offense endangering national security or which objectively and reasonably it could be perceived as endorsing, promoting, supporting, glorifying or encouraging or exciting any act to endanger national security. and it goes on to say, if the audience members who see the film could be encouraged to violate the law and national security, then that the film should be censored. so that is a wide range of potential offenses there. and i think what it is is it's by leaving these red lines very, very bay. it could lead to an increase in self censorship. distributors and filmmakers may just not want to go anywhere near anything that could even be perceived as endangering national security and cannot,
12:23 pm
you're not having the best day if you, if you're a sensor in hong kong, trying to interpret that. how will it impact than leading on to what you said, the whole process of artistic from production then from what is produced, what is screened, what is exhibited? what's put forward for awards and ceremonies. you know? absolutely, look. i mean, hong kong has a very vibrant art seen here and filmmaking. scene here, here at my university at university of hong kong. we teach documentary filmmaking. we have an oscar winning on kong. filmmaker here named ruby yang, who makes the teaches our students to make documentary film. we have master classes . we brought out internationally known documentary filmmakers like werner heard song and christian fry is. we've just been developing this kind of culture of documentary filmmaking in hong kong. and now you have these, these new guidelines coming along saying anything that touches on anything that
12:24 pm
might be perceived as endangering the national security of china. can be considered an offense. and it's just something that, you know, it's hard to get your head around. i mean, look, you know, i don't wanna take too long, but i could tell you last night my wife. but i went to see this wonderful film on the more italian about the one funnel bay prisoner who was l. 14 years before being released. imagine censored than the us, but say well that might endanger our national security because it might incite people to do something to think a certain way or that might be in danger of our national security because it glorifies potential terrorists who would later release films have a way of talking about current events and this was prompted, i believe by several recent films that were made about the 2019 protest and hong kong that call a stablish ment, politicians here kind of raised in the legislature that these films may violate national security because they might laura by the protest or laura fi violence and that's why these guidelines, i believe, came out now. all right,
12:25 pm
thank you so much for your thoughts on that. keith richberg. thank you. south korea is conservative. opposition has chosen the youngest leader in the country's modern political history to challenge president moon j in elections next year. 36 year old legion, so who set up an education smartphone app will have the people power party? the party is hoping to rally younger voters for fed up with income inequality and high cost of living. now the video has emerge said to show god's assaulting, shackled palestinian prisoners in an israeli jail. the harbor it's newspapers says the security footage from march 2019 shows more than 50 inmates allegedly linked to hamas being drank to the floor and beaten the paper says only 4 of the 10 guards being investigated over the incident at the prison in the southern negev region, thousands of palestinians have been living in israeli jails for years since the

12:29 pm
she's partially right. the guiding calls of the criminal justice system generally or sound. but the way things have been implemented have drastically heard people of color, people who don't have a lot of money, who don't have a lot of power. whoever is the next district attorney at manhattan, they'll also have to decide how or if to proceed with the criminal investigation into former president donald trump's finances. for now that is something a bu she doesn't want to comment on you volunteer. and i yeah, she's focused on criminal justice reform and holding police rather than president accountable. thank you. gabriel is on to our new york. cuba will temporarily suspend cash bank deposits of us dollars from june. the 21st. the central bank says it's been forced to stop accepting the american currency due to ty t us sanctions. it follows a evaluation of the local currency. meanwhile, in the past week,
