which i think we haven't seen in many years, but they simply swept everything head of them. and yesterday they marched a back into their own capital. and that was just an extraordinary achievement on their behalf. they say that they have taken something like 6000 ethiopians prisoner, and killed 33000 enemy troops. i mean, this is just on a scale we haven't seen in africa pro very long time. so what do you make of this unilateral sci fi request by the government? do you think that is an admission of defeat? well, it's in some ways laughable. i mean, can you imagine if after the bathroom darling grog during the 2nd world war, that hitler had suddenly said, oh, i'm going to have a natural sci fi. i mean, starling, in the and the west and allies would never accepted it. similarly, the government cannot have a unilateral cease,

but what they need to do is open talk through the 2 grand where the people that are fighting. and those tools need to involve the error trends as well as your correspond was right to be pointing up. they are trying to be directly involved in the school right from the beginning, and you have to sit down and negotiate. when you go see it, then the guns conform, silent, and you can find the terms of an agreement. but you simply cannot just say, are we going to have a seat, father? ridiculous. so the t p l f have the upper hand in michela a. but the situation elsewhere in the region is still pretty young, clear. but we have heard from a spokesman from the t p i left today who avowed to drive out enemies from the entire region. what does that suggest to you that fighting is going to continue? i think so. i mean, it will certainly continue for, for a number of days because they are large chunks of the west to gray linking up with to down, which were in the hands of their trends and up them har. militia will fighting role

not very long ago, won a nobel peace prize for making peace with a retreat. but today his reputation seems irreparably damaged. i completely agree with you. i mean, it's a tragedy. and the, you know, you're not the 1st nobel peace prize winner who's turned out to be sure we say less than satisfactory if you know he is really bad, the damage, he of course, has just held an election, which is probably one, even though many people didn't participate, gray couldn't participate. many of the other opposition party couldn't participate . religious were in jail. but he'll one that pretty clear. but that was what he needs to do is to sit down and negotiate that. is there any way for me? is one thing that is absolutely vital. 900000 people on the edge of famine into great because of the blockading of relief supplies coming in there. that

state resources and influence state policy, south africa, the chief justice has described zoom as defense and his attempt to garner public support as insulting to the people of the country. the years of corruption scandals have left south africa, new leaders with an unenviable task of restoring investor confidence in africa. most industrialized economy in basra vi 0 and speak to correspondent, familiar miller, who has in johannesburg, the judge, they're pretty dumbing in her ruling houses, but it goes down in south africa. well, i think there's a couple of different reactions to this judgment by the constitutional court. certainly, observers, commentators academics loading the court for the supremacy of the rule of law and that the constitutional court was an in big us when it said that jacob's duma, he's actions have defied. the courts defied the commission of inquiry into
4:17 pm
corruption until the africa by him not wanting to testify at that inquiry despite a number of appeals including a court summons. and so in terms of the supremacy of the constitutional court of africa constitution and that no one is above the law, this is very important. especially in the context of trying to fight large scale corruption in this country. but jacobs, him also has the supporters in the months that have preceded this judgment, he has said that he's been verified that there's a political agenda against him and that he's been treated unfairly. and that the constitutional court and other courts are being used to talk to the former president. and there are people who believe that, that this is part of a political agenda in terms of the difficulties, the african national congress is facing with regard to a fight to corruption. that party is divided. and if people were to be targeted or
4:18 pm
had to be charged for being involved in corruption, there are a number of, of high ranking amc individuals or leadership that could potentially faced the music. and so this is concerning for people who say that the agencies being targeted, the former president's being targeted. and this isn't really about corruption, but really about politics and what's going on in the country at the moment. so there has been a mixed reaction to the verdict to this judgment. and i suppose many waiting to see what happens within the next 5 days when it's expected that jacobs numa should hand himself over to police money. thanks for that for me to middle that for us in johannesburg, we can get a little more analysis on this. joining us on skype and cape town is finish at night, do senior research associate at the institute for global dialogue. many thanks for joining us on the news out. look, they couldn't find duma. why do you think the verdict was so strict? good afternoon, i think the word, it was strict,
4:19 pm
particularly because as your correspond it had indicated mr. luma has constant. he tried many ways in which to manipulate his judicial process, so he's constantly made the assumption and, and made the accusation that he is part of a political campaign to discredit team to target team, to malign him. and so as much as he directed to says that i want one to have my day in court and i'm willing to go to prison if that, if that is what will happen. he's not really giving any kind of genuine commitment to those statements. he makes, he constantly argues that the judiciary is biased against him. he challenges the legitimacy of the judiciary and he challenges the credibility of the judge. she, he had also challenged the constitutional court justices, as well as the various judges in our judicial process. he's also went out and said that they targeting him and they have a political agenda against him. this is caused
4:20 pm
a lot of tension on the ground where the support of mr. luma, have come out and made similar statements and also gone to the point of tripping the lives of judges and, and basically putting those tests on social media space. and so i think this judgment is critical to say to the truth, to the broader set african public that nobody, even if it's mr. luma, as well. my head of state, he's not above the law, but i think what makes mrs. dumas, case, even more important and strategic is that in the judgement read by the constitutional justice compare. she mentioned that, you know, mr. wilma is exceptional, but not accepts the way he's above the law. he's exceptional because he was a former state president and he knows what the constitution says and he actually took office and he abided by the oath of that presidency that he took. so he is not above the law in that country finish. it's interesting. just reading through some comments from people on twitter, a very skeptical that he's actually going to end up in jail. what do you think is
4:21 pm
going to happen? is he going to uphold or did to this mandate? does he have a choice? technically he doesn't have a choice because this is the highest apex court in the lab. this is the constitutional court. there's no higher than that. there's no process for his legal team to appeal this decision. there's no way to go. so technically speaking, if he doesn't abide by the ruling and what the justices had ruled in terms of giving him 5 days before he then presents himself to a police station and says, i'm ready to be to serve this 15 month sentence. then of course he's in, he's in a because that of, of legal dilemma and troubles. but i think what, what people are probably possibly feeling on the ground and within the court of public opinion is that we've seen this before. we missed the last come to the tipping point and if something happens and then he's pulled back or something happens and he justice doesn't prevail. but i think this time around, it is going to prevail. i think that at the end of the day where i'm be concerned
4:22 pm
is what happens in the support base of mr. jacobs tomorrow. especially those, those sections of the population and in the party that support team and have been guarding his house, the cave, the soldiers, they come to the soldiers of the african national congress, which is not a legitimate kind of association, but they've been standing god outside your home that inconsiderate to tell in counsellor and they've been arguing as well that they not going to let anybody put their hands on mr. jacobs. wilma. so i think that's for me is where a lot of the challenges in terms of the pilot powder kid and the explosiveness of what transpires hereafter. and whether mr. zuba does actually present himself to the, to the police station. having said that, i think he's family have indicated that they will actually take him to the, to, to the call to the, to the police station because their argument is that mr. mr. wilma is fearless, he's not afraid to go to, to, to prison. and more importantly, they want you to solve this term. ink was when a child, he's home problems and not in chain. so i think at the end of the day,
4:23 pm
there's indications that you know, he's going to go. but i think, you know, at the end, on the other side of the spectrum is what the supposed to do will have to see he's gone 5 days nation either good to talk to you, senior research associate at the institute for global dialog. his already forces had demolished a palestinian business in the still won neighborhood of occupied east jerusalem. a boot to shop was knocked down on tuesday morning. the homes of 13 palestinian families face the same threat and israeli court has ordered they be demolished after ruining. they were built without a proper permit for citizen. so one he spoke to the owner of the demolish shop for more than 10 years. this was the butchery nador. rodge abbey. it is a business which sustains the lives of 15 people. but last nights, monday nights is ready for his came here and said that it had not been demolished
4:24 pm
according to a demolition order that was imposed on the 7th of june. and so they would come within days and demolish it. that's what happened early on tuesday morning. they were pretty violent confrontations as it's ready forces arrived between some of the family members of the raj. ivy said they were there was tear gas used and once people were cleared away it was demolished. mister ra, job himself says it's bad enough that this business has gone. but there are more buildings that he owns that people live in 25 family members that are also on the imminent threat. and that i didn't muscle. this is not the only place that is under threat. we still have 4 other homes in another business that belong to the family. today they said next time they will demolish the other properties. we are still waiting to see what will happen on. beyond that, there are a political consequences both. so the new israeli coalition government, which contains a palestinian israeli policy that is argued against demolitions of this type, at least within israel, is less so here in occupied east jerusalem. and there are the broader tensions that
4:25 pm
took place, the violence in april. so war between israel and hamas in may much of that century around israeli actions here in occupied these to some more such actions. on tuesday though, limited in scope so far, there is threat of more to come that could see tensions rise again. israel's foreign minister has arrived in the united arab emirates smoking the highest level visits since the 2 countries normalize relations. 9 months ago. yeah, a lot, pete is integrating israel's embassy, and dobby and consulate into by on is expected to sign an economic agreement. they will also discuss iran, which both countries view as a top regional threat to get to know one another. we need to respect and learn each other's culture and we need to let our economies connect and prosper. we need to maintain open dialogue and open mind israel want spaces,
