said you location is in transit centers like cutter and germany, to the united states or to 3rd country. none of them will be landing a couple. now, the american aircraft part of this will not be going to any country, but united states. as this effort on falls, i want to be clear about 3 things. one plays taking from cabal, or not flying directly to the states. their landing the u. s. military basis in transit centers around the world. number 2, at these sites where they're landed, we are conducting a thorough se scrutiny security screening for everyone who is not a us citizen, or a lawful permanent residence. anyone arriving in the united states under gun background check. number 31 screened and cleared. we will welcome these afghans who helped us in the war effort over the last 20 years to the new home in the united states. america is that we are as what america is. you know,
11:31 pm
i've been touched by the a point of support that we've seen from communities organizations across america, mobilizing to support these efforts. so many of these atkins stood bravely by us troops in afghanistan. now, united states including veterans groups, refugee settlement agencies, religious organization, and so many others are standing with our african allies. exemplifies the best of america. and want to say again, just how difficult this mission is and how dangerous and the danger opposes to our troops on the ground. the security environment is changing rapidly, or civilians crowded at the airport. although we've cleared in thousands of, we know the terrorist may seek to exploit the situation. and target innocent afghans or american troops are maintaining constant vigilance. tomorrow,
11:32 pm
we are maintain the controversy to monitor and disrupt threats from any source, including the likely source been isis, isis. k, yet, can affiliate referred to as isis k. but we're under no loses about the threat. i said on friday, isis k is a sworn enemy of the tale bought, and they have a history of fighting one another. but every day we had troops on the ground, these troops in this and civilians. the airport faced the risk of attack from isis came from a distance, even though we're moving back to perimeter significant. we're working hard and as fast as we can to get people out. that's our mission. that's our goal. and our determination to get every american citizen home, no vacuum or africa and allies is unwavering. we continue to see not only enormous, enormous scope and scale the effort. we will see the individual lives that are
11:33 pm
affected. families that are desperate to get home to their loved ones in america, the communities of veterans who have mobilized to try to help their former interpreters get to safety. the frightened afghans aren't sure what to do. state job is his heartbreaking. for all see, we see, we feel it, you can't look at and not feeling nothing about this effort is easy. but the women and men in the united states armed forces are acting bravely and with professionalism, and the basic human compassion. compassion. want to offer my profound thanks to our service members on the ground, a couple it all those us bases around the world for welcoming carry, carrying for these vacuum use it all the diplomats and civil servants who are working around the clock to rescue american citizens. the citizens of our allies
11:34 pm
are afghan partners, vulnerable afghans, such as women leaders and journalists. what we're doing is extraordinary. you have to think of all they're doing thanks to the people who from all over the world who are helping this effort. want to thank you and i'll keep you informed every day as we move forward. and god protect our troops and diplomats, and or serving in harm's way. i'll take a few question mr. president. thank you will. he will not have away from the august 31st deadline. will you would extend that deadline or what, what is your thought process on the evacuation operation. there's discussions going on among this and the military about extending our hope is we will not have to extend but are going to be discussions. i suspect on how far along we are in the process this. mr. breville, mary parker, bloomberg. but the president took a picture of the 31st deadline,
11:35 pm
so we'll be practicing support for a larger was longer friends. august 31st will be filled and i will tell them that we'll see what we can do. look, we are working closely with the g 7 spoken with most of the leaders g 7. i'll be doing a conference with them. i think tuesday, not certain. and we'll have that discussion, but we are, we already have helped get out. diplomats from other countries. we've already helped get out citizens, mother, countries and we'll continue to do that. it sounds like a whole outside of what i'm not going to do is talk about the tactical changes we're making to make sure we maintain as much securities. we can, we have constantly,
11:36 pm
how can i say increased rational access to the airport, where more folks can get there's more safely, is still a dangerous operation, but i don't want to go into the details of power. do it for andrew, for the wall street journal. are putting in the proper paperwork, are still having trouble getting the airport sunset and it was managed by the us, us entities that haven't been able to haven't been able to make it into the airport as well. why don't the us doing more to allow afghan into the airport to ensure access to the airport? and are you still opposed to setting up of extended perimeter around the airport to help you've got access? number one, i think you're going to see they're going to get out. number 2, we have made a number of changes including extended access around the airport saved now and we've done a number of things. again, i don't want to get into detail about,
11:37 pm
but the fact is that more and more of the groups, we originally want to get out of canister started with american citizens. and the folks who worked in the embassies and personnel with our allies, as well as the afghans who help them and worked in those embassies as well as those who help them on the battlefield as well. we are working diligently to make sure we've increased the ability to get them out. we've changed the gate operations in a whole range of things. and that's why we've been able to significantly increase the number of people are getting. well, the very 1st meeting with them discuss a lot with totally bond. they been cooperative in extending some of the perimeter. every may be seen. whether we ask that question and fire away, which following up on this question, because the united states is now negotiating with the taliban,
11:38 pm
or ford access and such, do you know, trust them? and then the question on the public response, a new pull out today shows americans wanted to withdraw from their but they disapprove of the way you've handled it. also found it based in part and what's transpired in the last week and majority of americans. and forgive me, i'm just the messenger no longer considered to be competent, focused or effective in the job. i already nipple it's out there. in cbs this morning. what would you say to those americans who no longer believe if you are going to job had a basic decision to make your withdraw america from a 20 year war dependent use analysis. accept cost us $150000000.00 a day for 20 years or $300000000.00 a day for 20 years. who and i, you know, i carry this car to be every day and who in fact,
11:39 pm
where we lost 2448 americans dead. in 20700. 22 would either increase the number of forces we keep. we keep there and keep that going. right. and the war and i decided, and the war, as i said, the other day. you know, the only reason we're against this is a place from which ben loudon attacked the united states of america. had this been in another middle eastern country where he could have beasley have moved from we would have never gone to gas. so the question is, when is the right time to leave? what are our national interests? where do they lie? in the idea that we're in a situation where we can not recognize that terrorism has metastasized around the world and the need for us to focus on other parts of the world. creating even greater danger of an our kind of like operation beginning
11:40 pm
can't be ignored. and where are you hoping you follow this? we are a number of places where we're doing that without permanent bases american forces. so i think when this is over, the american people have a clear understanding of what i did, why we did it, and but look at the job, i jobs and make judgments. my job is to make judgements. no one else can or will make. i made them, i'm convinced them absolutely correct. not deciding to send more young women and men for for war. that in fact is no longer warrant on the question of taliban though they are, they you trust them now, but you have to know. i don't trust anybody including you. i love you, but you know, there's not a lot of people i trust to look totally blind has a tale. mine has to make a fundamental decision. is
11:41 pm
a tale mine going to attempt to be able to unite and provide for the well being of the people of afghanistan, which no one group has ever done it since before, really for hundreds of years. and if it does is going to need everything from additional help in terms of economic assistance, trades, a whole range of 6 tale bon has said, we'll see whether they mean they're seeking legitimacy or seeking legitimacy to determine whether or not they will be recognized by other countries, they have told other countries as well as us, they don't want us to move our diplomatic presence completely a day. so all this is all just talk to all just talk. and so, so far the tale bond has not taken action against us forces so far they have by and large follow through what they said in terms of allowing
11:42 pm
americans to pass through in the like, i'm sure they don't control all the forces. it's a rag tag force, and so we'll see. we'll see whether or not what they say turns out to be true. but the bottom line is this folks look at the end of the day. if we didn't leave afghanistan now, when do we leave? another 10 years, another 5 years, other years. i'm not about to send your son or your daughter to fight against it. i don't see where that is in our own roman interest in the talk about how our interest are going to be impacted. let me tell you you're sitting in beijing, you're sitting in the moscow, you happy, we left i love nothing better for us to continue to be bogged down, they're totally occupied with what's going on. so the idea this is,
11:43 pm
i think that history is going to record this was the logical rational, right decision to make. so thank you also the talking about right, so we just been listening to you as president joe biden really defiant, that the chaos at the airport in cobble in the past week was inevitable. it's your the rest of the nurses take now. all right, so a very, a very defiant tone struck by us president joe biden. they're essentially saying that the cale you've seen around the output in cobble over the past week was inevitable, regardless of when the process of us withdrawal started, or how that policy was executed. the president also confirming that no negotiation to taking place with the taliban on access to the airport. he said that there have been discussions with the taliban,
11:44 pm
who he described as being cooperative and extending the perimeter around the airport to facilitate greater access. when asked about whether he trusts the group, he said that they, it depends on whether they're able to unite the people of afghanistan and provide for their well being. making the point that historically no one group has been able to do that in the country. but he said if they are to receive international foreign aid and assistance or any kind of recognition, that it will depend on the way in which they behave. of course, the foreign us financial assistance has been cut off from the taliban and they need those funds to be able to govern. so let's be to sullivan now because he's live 1st in washington and so we have here, phil. i think a 3rd another attempt by the president to defend his decision to withdraw from the country, not just the decision, but the way in which it was done there. absolutely. and what
11:45 pm
a bizarre thing can you imagine any point in the last 20 years when a ruling us president would have been asked the question, do you trust the taliban shows just where we are at this point, but we saw president biden doubling down on what he's been saying over the last few days, you know, he was asked by journalists, would you consider extending the deadline? and the response was a little more fluid than it has been. you know, initially he was asked a few days ago. would you extend the deadline? and he said, we will only stay beyond the 31st of august if the americans left, when he was asked with that extend to refugees who still need to be evacuated. he said, you know, we'll have to wait and see we, we got this morning from the morning show, some of his spokespeople, almost softening the ground, saying that the president was perhaps a little more receptive to that. but again, he doesn't want to commit to anything. and that's because this is a huge issue here domestically and the president's approval right ratings a full and today he's now at to 50 percent according to nbc, cbs,
11:46 pm
to say that his down a points on last month with the majority of people supporting the withdrawal from afghanistan, which is still a huge policy here. the people are broadly behind, but not the president's handling of that. and we just giving us an update on the numbers as well. and he said that in the last 30 hours, some 11000 people have been evacuated from afghanistan. we understand that around about $4000.00 of those, or us, sorry, have been taken out on us flights. and the rest by coalition partners, by about chartered airlines, even journalists, you know, they right, right. leaving station fox news treated a little earlier saying that they have evacuated, a dozen african journalists themselves. so those, the latest numbers that he's given us, but they say around about $8000.00 to so in the last 24 hours. and the problem they have is they don't know how many americans are still in afghanistan. and that's because spokes. but as people were saying earlier today, the, what typically happens in afghanistan is that americans would register when they
11:47 pm
arrive, but many of them have left without d registering. so there's no way of knowing if those people are in afghanistan and we know that they are struggling to get to the airport. we know that joe biden said the other day that the taliban were giving americans waiving their passports, safe passage. but he was contradicted by his own defense secretary, who said that they were accounts on the ground. and journalists who were there, who was saying that members of the press members, american citizens were being beaten by the taliban and pushed away from getting to the airport. and of course, the americans are in control of the airport, but they are not in control of the roads leading into the airport. and that is where the big problem has. now what we saw from joe biden, that was said to clear issues here. first of all, it was getting those americans out, but also the refugees and you know, he's really coming under a lot of pressure regarding those refugees. i mean there's a cable here according to n b c. news that was released yesterday in which members
11:48 pm
a staff of the u. s. embassy, so these are guns, have been working for the americans. have said that they have lost faith in the american administration. in fact, i quote one said, i am happy to die here. it will be better to die from the taliban bullet, but i would die with dignity and pride. so the problem is, getting these people into the, into the, into the apple. you mentioning that poll, the president's approval ratings all week. we've been seeing these, these really terrible scenes of chaos and desperation at the airport, where 20 people have now been killed. is there a prevailing view there in the u. s. that this, this is the, the biggest foreign policy crisis of his presidency now? oh yeah, i mean this is not side joe violence, finest moment by a long shot there is definitely a feeling for a lot of people, but the, the honeymoon period is over. you know, of course he's going to come on the criticism from those on the right. you know nikki haley, the former ambassador in the us. he was closely aligned with donald trump. she
11:49 pm
described it as him saying he saying he is completely surrendered to the taliban, calling this an embarrassing failure. but then again, let's training another republican, but one who is not a friend, donald trump said that there is no reason why joe biden could not have reverse this decision. the problem he's got is this and saw him doubling down here. this is a clear strategy where he has to take these american troops out. it's a big domestic policy bringing the american servicemen service women home. and the problem that they've got is do they what, what do they weigh it against? they the hoping that people will more likely forget the chaos of the airport more than they would remember if biden was to say, look, we're going to keep trips in for a little bit longer. but like he said, you know, when would be a good time to leave? we've been there for 20 years. we've spent trillions of dollars we went and he says to nation build, we will that to neutralize the threat from al qaeda, attacking american interests over here. and we've done that. so, you know, that's where he stands at the moment. thanks. thanks very much. phil laval there
11:50 pm
for in washington. thank sell because it's worth re camping, then on the latest development and i've gone histone because it has been a week now since the capital kabul felt the caliban but tens of thousands of people as we've been hearing. they're still. busy scrambling to board evacuation flights from the cities, airports, the me at least 20 people are reported to have been killed in the chaos there in recent days, almost 6000 u. s. and foreign troops had guarding the field. and there's more and more concerned about security threats. taliban fighters have been manning, checkpoints, and blocking people without documents from entering the airport with us has more than 25000 people, including afghans, americans, and other national have been flown out, but many are still stranded. 18 us commercial airlines have been ordered to provide planes to help speed up evacuation efforts. the croft won't go to campbell,
11:51 pm
but will instead transport afghans have already been flowing out to the final destinations. charles stratford landed at cobbler airport on sunday, and so long queues of people waiting to get on to military at croft, it says there is an atmosphere of calm we are on the side of the pool. i'm seeing huge lines of people. these people haven't already had the papers process was about an hour ago, long lines of guns climbing on to call me to, to call around the world. i could play related to south africa play with the straight in italy flights earlier today. there is a sense of a call sent me in the location we off, but as you can imagine, a lot of tension case will come in this unity. we
11:52 pm
speculate that these are warning shots. it's being reported at least that things have been a little bit more orderly today, certainly compassion to, to, to with exchange. we've seen when the last few days we've been speaking to people who i've been queueing up some of the things that i've said. trudy made a pretty big one guy. you've worked with western media. many is very articulate. say he just like this is being a brain, right? because it was an incredibly sad time for, for, for afghan and stuff. but he said that he wasn't prepared to give it probably bomb benefits out out there. arabic correspondent, i'm a model, dean is in combo. he spoke with taliban commander about what's being done to improve the situation at the airport. many i'm and i was preventing people from
11:53 pm
entering the called of the hall. these are the instructions given by the americans, namely not to allow anyone to enter the airport unless they have certain documents . this means the atkins side has nothing to do with this matter. a role is only to coordinate with the americans about who can be allowed and who was not allowed to enter the airport. once again, according to the necessary documents they have, hadn't, when katie said, and what is your message to the world? but your current message is for our people. we urge them to stay away from the airport not to get close to the area. hopefully, god willing, the situation will be sorted out soon and following that, everyone will be allowed to enter the airport on time. and he said, this is the message that the taliban wants to send and to confirm that the americans are the ones who decide who is and who is not allowed to enter the airport. i met you yesterday that as mr. miller, the evacuation process is ongoing. according to the most recent information,
11:54 pm
the number is always being updated regarding passages and flights of methods. when will the civilian airport go back to normal? to civilian part of the airport is expected to go back to normal within $5.00 to $7.00 days. following the consultations with the concerned authorities about, while the government and katara is hosting thousands of government, i'm african evacuees until they can enter a 3rd country jamal a shall. is it the american, our data base incatel and sent this update? this is the 4th aircraft to fly in refugees. well done. it's done. over a 100 passengers, civilians, mainly students were on board this flight. the took off from travel early on sunday . it's now arrived here at the base in are they on board? many students so far has said the government has been able to
11:55 pm
evacuate several 100 afghans in total. this has been described as one of the largest humanitarian earliest operations in be in the history more than 7000 blown out. and recent days, the 1st year that's been put on the military as well as allies in the us, al, for here, i don't know, they had been huge because the influx of refugees coming in has been far greater than the capacity to house them. there was issues with where they would sleep, conditioning and be really harsh from are here for you to some point that has somewhat been resolved with some of the authorities here from the american fight thing. i've been able to read ok. several 100 of these refugees to cation, roughly 15 minutes from where we are standing. there is another plane expected to
11:56 pm
arrive of the military, one that was right again, on monday, having more refugees. but that has been held by the international community for it and ensuring the safe passage of these refugees is prim. logistical nightmare is one of described to me in the company and by saddam, i've got a son, has himself been present physically and some of the con for you to ensure a safe passage rate for those who have chosen to live up to one come up with that being said, probably there are still files in there for tens of thousands, and i've done it's done, which is really one of the other hand, guns, new router or i've got a son, you have insisted that there is a general i'm going to see for anyone who works in the state that they will not be parked and gone on anyone that they will be inclusive in their approach that they will protect people. however, for many, they don't want to take their chances for they would like to search war or more
11:57 pm
peaceful life considering that the violence and i'm going to son didn't just start 6 or 7 days ago. this is a country that has been worked on for decades, particularly the past 20 years, where many were fleeing not the kind of bond but wanting another attack by natal. i'm the other military so mama talk like your monitoring operation ongoing. more and more refugees are right. you are. will you k prime minister boys? johnson is called an emergency g 7 meeting to discuss the crisis in afghanistan in a treat. he said it's vital international community works together to ensure safe evacuations. prevent a humanitarian crisis and support the afghan people to secure the gains of the last 20 years. so that is the word from the u. k. prime minister. but we have been hearing in the past hour from your president joe biden, defending his execution of the way in which evacuation efforts have taken place in
11:58 pm
