has picked up speed in recent days, but there's still a long while ago. germany is a lifting its own citizens along with a nationals and africans. so far that effort has transported 3000 people. the u. k . has flooring out 6000 people with plans to evacuate another 4000 and the biggest effort by fire is from the americans since august 14th. 37000 people have left on us slides or than 16000 of them have flying out since sunday. the us still plans to evacuate between 506-0000 afghan nationals by the august 31 deadline. the pentagon says it's determined to finalize its evacuation mission in afghanistan before the end of the month, but didn't rule out extending the deadline if necessary. we are well aware of, of, of the stated desire to buy the taliban to have this mission completed by the 31st
2:06 am
of august. i would tell you that we 2 are still planning on completing it by the 31st of august. that is the mission that we've been signed by the commander in chief assigned to us, and that's what we're trying to execute it. while the us says it will try and stick to the deadline. germany's foreign minister has suggested it may take longer to get people out. yes, mrs. mitten was added to coyote under them. we are in talks with the us and turkey in order to keep calm, opperation to make civil evacuations. if these people possible, we will have a role to keep discussing that with the taliban, the doing say because they will have a place special role in that. let's go live now to john a hindrance in washington. they say hello there, john. thanks for joining us. what's the latest from the bottom administration when, when will it confirm whether or not it's speaking to be august 31st day? well, we do have breaking news on that. the biden administration,
2:07 am
particularly president biden, was expected to decide within the next 24 hours, whether to unilaterally extend that august 31st deadline for all us troops to be out of afghanistan. and he's doing it now a week ahead of that deadline in order to give the pentagon time to prepare, in case he does seek to extend that deadline. now we are also told that there are members of his administration, national security officials, who are warning him not to try to extend that deadline because of the security concerns. they don't know how the channel a band will react to that. we do know the taliban has said that deadline is a red line that they will not accept the us extending that deadline. and to put this all into perspective, donald trump, when he was president negotiated with the taliban, that there would be no tax for us troops. and if that happened through this deadline, the u. s. would indeed honor that and pull out by that date. but we have heard from
2:08 am
the national security spokesman at the white house jakes sullivan, that he says, we believe that we have time between now and the 31st to get out every american who wants to get out of there. other people, the u. s. is trying to get out as well, that includes afghans, those with that, those special immigration visa is trying to get out. and of course, there are other people in addition to other allies who have their own people there . so the white house is trying to make this decision within the next 24 hours, and president biden has been taking an enormous amount of heat for the way this is going. there is tremendous pressure on him to get this done and to get it done right. and john taliban has wound up quite consequences if the u. s. stays beyond august. what, what has consequences likely look like and how would washington respond with that still a matter of speculation, taliban hasn't said exactly what the or else is in there. don't do this

conversation, but i think we can assume that they're no longer going to buy that agreement. that there will be no attacks on us troops and it's important to note it is that taliban that has checkpoints around huffman cars. i airport, that's where the u. s. is staging their withdrawal of us and other people from afghanistan. so it could be something as simple as sniping, attacks on the us. it could be something far more dramatic. there isn't agreement for how those checkpoints go. and part of that agreement is allowing us and other people with a proper papers to get through those taliban checkpoints. well, i think we can assume they're not going to agree to do that any longer. that's an agreement with the u. s. contingent on the u. s. pulling out by august 31st, but also basically all rules around the window. if the u. s. besides, to unilaterally extend that and it seems quite clear the taliban isn't going to agree to an extension of ad deadline. an important 24 hours ahead. thank you for

that update. john hendrick live for us in washington. d. c. a group is afghan evacuated has arrived in northern virginia as part of that u. s. evacuation operation that being temporarily housed at an expo center in chan chile before they're being taken to military bases. some critics have raised concerns about the swift bidding process. phil laval is at one of those hinges, or is at that center where the evacuated are arriving. we've had the sporadic arrivals over the last 244872 hours, but now they come and got a rate of probably one every 90 minutes or so. the cost is comes down here. this is actually the expos sent to were a few kilometers away from the airport. so when the refugees arrived, they'll put onto the buses once a met by in services buses bring them, had this whole area sailed off. we've had a few glimpses of what's going on inside their portable bathroom. there is a lot of food, big growth in this is not

go get your vaccination and get it to day today. and danny and gallagher has more from miami on the expected impact of the find the rollout. well, i think more than anything else, it's hope that this will give those that have been hesitant to get the vaccine confidence. there are reams of scientific data behind any decision that the food and drug administration makes. that's what they've done in a short amount of time. the normal and you heard the president, he's been pleading with people in this nation to get vaccinated for months. the delta variant of course, is leading to hospitalizations, particularly in the south. there are 17000 people alone in this state in florida that are currently hospitalized. so according to one poll from the family foundation, the kaiser family foundation, a 3rd of the people they talked to said that they would get vaccinated once there was f. d a approval. that could make a tremendous difference across the country,

particularly when faxing rates low. of course, there will always be people throughout this pandemic that will refuse to get the vaccines for their own personal reasons. but it's hoped that this f d, a approval and all the rooms that scientific data behind them will take those people have been teetering on the edge to finally get vaccinated. now the vaccination rates and some of those states have been talking about louisiana, alabama, mississippi have been taking up tremendously over the past few days. it's hope that this decision will make that go even faster. i think the trend is being going up because people have been having personal experiences with what the delta varied is doing to those close to them. and people that they know because hospital wards in places like missouri and places like louisiana, alabama, mississippi just getting full at the moment because it's delta variant is so contagious that and part i think is why people are saying finally it is time to get vaccinated. but i think the by the administration and now hopes that with this formal green lights, from a highly respected organization, the f

a 1000000 jobs under the kovak mechanism. only 20000 have been applied. this why? in part it's because of this. the empty covey board that dr. colleen shows us in the non for profit gas gear hospital. i suppose at one point, you would have thought that this would be full of people. it was full last year. it was full. now it is very calm. we don't have any admission. haiti's hope ministry says only around 600 people have died of cobra. 19. the infection rate is also far lower than in many of the places. nobody knows exactly why. but since the pandemic isn't taking off, neither is the vaccination campaign for down inside of business that really present him hazy. and if it's not present, there is no need for them to get vaccinated. in this market, the streets were to the faces bear. many don't believe in cove,

it or mistrust. the vaccines like him, i've done where because i believe in god, i don't believe in what people say the human being lives all the time. they never speak the truth. that's why i only believe god. we took to do been new because he was one of only a handful of people we saw covering up was i believe in science who i believe in my mask. he told us the limited public health campaign. another reason vaccination is to would have done little to convince others. this is one of the here post to do with the we've been able to find here in the cap and to pull the print. i want medical expert said to us is the a golden window of opportunity. it could be being missed because people now could be being vaccinated before mode. thirdly, strings of curve it possibly take hold here in the country. the government has other things on its mind, not least recently assassinated president followed up by a major earthquake in the country southwest. the latter could yet turn into

a super spreader with the hospital full and a multitude of foreign organizations flowing into help cove. it may, for whatever reason, continue to swim around this caribbean nation. if so, it will be the 1st piece of good fortune haiti's had in a long time, and john home and joins us live from the capital. puerto prince, thanks for joining. as john, as you mentioned in that package, haiti is faced so many challenges. do you get the sense that code is not only low on the priority list of the government, but also for individuals? yes, completely. the actually the market that you saw there in a piece that street was absolutely full of vendors and people selling. and we had to look pretty hard to find a handful of people going through. there must have been a couple of 100 people that that were wearing a mass. so as we send the piece, really, the meaning of that is the for one reason or another. and there's
2:23 am
a lot of speculation, but there is nothing concrete cove it really hasn't taken root as it has done in other countries. 600 bed in a country this size, very few cases compared to in other countries. so i think a lot of people are saying, well, if it isn't really affecting us in the way we're seeing it in other nations, why would we need to get vaccinated and vaccinations actually in the hospital that we went to that being offered for free? and there was a lot of people there waiting to try and get hold of them in other countries. in latin america, people are desperate for they try to keep around the blog. and that just isn't the case in haiti. the other thing is where it says a lot of mistrust to about sort she's after all the things that politicians are put through and also things that are coming from overseas to be the things that occasionally governments or non governmental organizations from elsewhere, 83. so that also is dumping the in 2004 boxes. and we mentioned in that

piece as well. and as we've been reporting here on al jazeera that haiti suffered that her riffing earthquake. tell us more about the earthquake aid response and reports of gang activities slowing those relief efforts. yet we were in la kai, which is one of the main cities effected by the quake for most of last week and actually produce a jeremy to pawn when so talk to one of the gangs on that stretch of road on the outskirts of port to prints in which gangs a basically having a war over and that's meant the aid kong get down that road or couldn't get down that road to the affected disaster area. what we've been hearing is that there been a truce declared between those gangs. and in a press conference, the prime minister told me directly, yes, things have got better on that, right? we were skeptical, but jeremy do pulling out producer and she went to speak one of the gang leaders. and now has it confirmed that there is a truth there?
2:25 am
he says on the road to pacifically to let the get through to that disaster area. now that isn't the only obstacle because of a producer list, lynn has actually been speaking to 8 organizations that says despite that, they're still listing a lot of supplies. and that's because ro, conditions are so bad, even that cracked up, there's been flooding in some areas after a storm or roads were already in a pool and a poor state heading to that dissolves to area. so still a lot of aid is getting flown in, but at least thought road seems to be an option now. and maybe that will help the flow of aid us 8 organizations that we've been talking to have been saying that they have been sending things all of the days. but we've also been spike speaking to people, the homeless in that city to the kite. and there it sort of makes shift refugee comes that say that they're still lacking tense and they're still lacking food. so it's a situation that seems to be improving, but there's a long way to go. that sounds like it keep us updated. thank you for that update
