7:44 pm
sunday because she gets home the all right, we're taking you live now to doha, where the 1st international flight of passengers has just landed in doha from cobble. this was the, the 1st flight that took off from cobble just over 3 hours ago carrying just on the 2 hundreds passengers. this is a charter charter flights the 1st international flight since the airport and cobble was up and running again after the us lead evacuation and air lift took place there. so lots of developments and reaction we are expecting on that
7:45 pm
right now. we are hoping to hear as well from our correspondent who is on the ground there and we expect to be speaking to him at any moment. this is a plane that was containing largely foreigners on board number of americans as well. we understand this is not a understand we understand a commercial flight. this is a charter flights one that was pre arranged for a number of people to, to travel and go on to further destinations from doha to, to elsewhere around the world. doha has been playing a large role in lifting many people evacuating many people from cobble in those last few days. so we saw last in this past month or so the cost,
7:46 pm
the cost of the government has been involved in getting the, the cargo airport up and running again, sending a number of technical specialists to help us get that airport opperation. all we understand from then that it is now around 90 percent operational. i understand we have how much jim june is there with us? not sure if he can. so right his we just, we just trying to establish communication with our correspondent, my jim jim, who is down there on the ground at the airport, hoping we can get a bit more from him on this as that playing tax sees on the runway. so how much i understand we can, we can get some how much now. so how much just bring us up to date on, on what you're seeing and hearing there. yeah. so how is it we're just now seeing
7:47 pm
that the airways flight of his landed, the doors have not yet opened. nobody has get immersed. we've been told why folks with knowledge of the situation here at the airport that there are about 113 passengers on board. and that the nationalities on board are comprised of canadian american, ukrainian, german, british citizens and others. we are also told that once they the plane that they will go through cuts in the course, they are transiting through the house with the pin after they clear customs. they will be taken at least temporarily to a compound here in doing which is currently housing afghan evacuation an afghan refugees. now we're still trying to see if we're going to be able to speak with any of the passengers that are aboard, that plane. at the moment, we're not sure if we'll be given access, but as soon as they start coming off the plane, we will try to find out a little bit more about them. and if they are aware what the next few days holds
7:48 pm
for them, do they know yet how long? exactly they are going to be here in cost before they transferred onto their final destination. and what do they know as far as what's coming next for them? and how much as we were reporting earlier, kataria officials and technical experts have been assisting in getting the airport in cobble up and running in the and the, this is this 1st flight this cut away away says light is the combination of that. and they, they certainly hope to be able to arrange more all these flights and it's reflection, isn't it? of the kind of outside roll the cutter has been playing in all of this? well, you're absolutely right. and that's very much been on display in the past couple of weeks, especially with the very high level visit that happened just
7:49 pm
a couple of days ago here. when you had us secretary of state anthony, blinking in the us defense secretary coming here to have to speak with their company counterparts. i would that, that press conference and throughout that press conference, the americans were really lavishly praising the funny thing that this whole airlift, this largest airlift in history that happened from probable as the americans were leaving, that it could not have happened without the assistance of the indispensable assistance as they call that of the 3 governments. so they were very thankful for the rule that something is played for stuff that is playing a really outside role right now in the world when it comes to them because they are the prime interlocutors. so when it comes to the college and they are the mediators . and because of that, you have a choice and like you have a situation like today, wherein this is a historic day and this flight that has just arrived here in ohio. and right now. 8 we are starting to see the 1st passengers emerge from the flight just walking down . that's their case. yeah, this is, this is
7:50 pm
a very big deal today. the fact that despite happened when i was in that press conference with the foreign ministers just 2 days ago, one of the things that was the top of the agenda was the reopening of cobbled airport and the fact that it is operational enough right now to be able to get this white up and running. and now here to, to do that. that is a very significant step. that is a big deal. and, and the fact that you had the american expressing concern about how you mandatory and why it's going to be made. how humanitarian aid was going to continue to get into felt that at such a critical time. and now that this, why did they get off and landed here the 1st such to do so, since the evacuations were complete, this is something that's really going to raise a lot of questions as to how much more this is going to be done in the, in the next few days, how many more people are going to be transported,
7:51 pm
how many more people are going to be landing here in transit to other destinations and a hammer then as we looking at those live pages, now, the passengers, few passengers beginning to disembark, now form that cutaway ways across in recent days, mohammed, there has been this standoff between the taliban and the, the organizes of the several charter plains who had hope to, to evacuate foreigners, particularly americans. and that's something that the us secretary state had spoken up about getting, getting the rest of their citizens out and at risk afghans as well. from, from the airports, not just in cobbler, but also in the, the town of mazata sharif to the north of the taliban. had said it would let passengers with valid travel documents leave, but many of those of the airport in, in northern afghanistan didn't have such such papers. and this, of course,
7:52 pm
comes off to be evacuation of more than a $100000.00 people from the country. and in the wake of that us lead treatment tool that was extensive damage, of course, to a cobbler airport. and that raise questions over how soon this the sample could resume for charter flights. and in the future, it's hoped commercial flights. just tell us a little bit more about where, where things are going on on that front. well, what we're seeing right now is we're starting to see more women and children emerging from the point. it looks as though there are quite a few families that were aboard this flight. i can only imagine the sense of relief that they must be feeling right now. and as i mentioned, we are going to try to catch up with some of them in the next hour or so. and try to find out a bit about a bit more about their circumstances. how, how difficult it was for them to get on this flight. where they might be headed to
7:53 pm
next and how long they expect to be staying here. but you know, as you mentioned, you talked about that, that stand off that was going on between the americans and the paula bar when it comes to trying to evacuate to people out of sharing. that was something that was touched upon in that press conference. just 2 days ago, which was attended by foreign ministers in the us, secretary of state and lincoln and secretary blinking did say that the americans were aware of the equation and that they were trying to get people out of ms. archery. now it's unclear at this stage if any of the a vacuum that were on this flight, if any of them were perhaps some of the people that were stranded in missouri sharif or if they are from other parts of afghanistan. but as i said, certainly one can only imagine how relieved they must be to have finally been able to get on this flight. and to have the part a couple right now we are seeing more men, women, and children,
7:54 pm
as they are walking from the plain. they're a boarding bus and some of them are waving to the camera. it looks as though they are in good spirits and happy to be here. this is a weigh station for them right now. they are feeling a tremendous amount of uncertainty, but they have been reassured before getting on this flight that they will be out here until it becomes clear exactly where they are going to next. and at a time when everything is unclear. well, so much is unclear. in afghanistan and when there is a dire command, monetary and situation, prices blooming. the fact that the airport is now, you know, in the words of some of the officials, you know, close to 90 percent, fully operational, that much calm as a big really many of the folks that are there that are waiting on on much needed 8 once again we're now seeing more people that are emerging from the plain looking happy. i mean, obviously you can't see the expressions on their faces because most of them have
7:55 pm
maps on, but several of them have been waiting for the camera. some of them do appear to be smiling and it does seem to be a palpable sense of relief at this hour. indeed. and then just to take a step back for a moment to let us know maybe just joining us right now. what we are seeing is live pictures of the, the 1st evacuation flight from cobble since the u. s. exit landing in doha, in the country capital around just over $100.00 passengers. we understand including us citizens arriving and half the flying from cobble on thursday. in this, the 1st flight carrying foreigners out of the afghan capital since the us lead evacuation ended. on august 30th the evacuation plan landing its customers had international airport mocking the 1st successful flight of his time since that chaotic, a lift of more than $120000.00 people came to
7:56 pm
a close last month. so we're looking at these live pictures at the moment of the passengers just coming out of the plane being carried away into the, into the terminal. now, as you say, mohammed lots of families, there are lots of the children as we see just talk us through when we're expect seeing where the passengers be expecting to go on from here. i tried, has them. i mean, we don't have too many details at this hour. what we have been told is that there are about $113.00 passengers that were on this plane and, and the nationalities aboard include american, british citizens, german, ukrainians, am canadian, and potentially even even more nationalities. the complete breakdown has not yet been given to us. we are told that they will be taken 1st to custom. and
7:57 pm
once the customs here and how they will be taken to a to a compound here and which is currently housing, hundreds of african refugees and african evacuation. we're still have course transited more than 50, rather transit and more than 58000 people in the last couple of weeks and, and it has been a major destination. and when there was the press conference of 2 days ago with us secretary of state, anthony lincoln here in the us, secretary, if they lincoln said on many occasions that day, that out of all the countries that had to help us when it, when it came to their evacuations and candidates and no country had done more than i had done right here. here on our right. now it's getting to be that the folks that are not sorry, sorry to cut you off. so you sort of cut you off behind what we've got to take
7:58 pm
