. and the 3rd vibrant votes thinking of greece this week, plus with georgia, gwinnett decker la slipped off from a traumas, powerful space telescope ever build, sets off to unlock secrets by galaxy. ah, protests as have been back out on the streets. officer don, it was the 10th major demonstration since the military takeover in october security forces fire tear gas internet services were cut and large areas of the capital were locked down, the protested say they won't back down. bahama vall has more from cartoon, several of the groups of protest as godhood in the outskirts of up to him on saturday afternoon for marching toward the city center where the presidential policies located. well, i'm not sure that any of these people are going out on the streets to reach this

military are 30 and now slogans are clear off the no negotiations, no partnership, no bars and what the army is for the barracks. the militias do not rule us and we demand the hand over a full power to civilians. we demand civilian democratic rule, but least quickly. it is fun to do. forcing the protest this city, of course, security forces closed on the bridges leading to central cartoon. this, along with an unprecedented police presence in the street, made it difficult for the dumb of plato that balance. on one or 2 occasions, however, the clouds managed to get close a few 100 meters away from the warmth of the presidential follies. but they were soon dispersed, several went into the book. this is chanted slogans, calling and military leaders in the ruling 70 council. to see the polish civilians

done the state has promised to organize another day, a protest on december 13th. they insist not that they will stop their rallies, only when power is completely restored to civilian government, $100.00 funds. i just got to me. well, let's bring in cameron hudson. now he is non resident senior fellow at the atlantic council's african center. and he's joining via skype from north carolina. very good to have you. with us on al jazeera, the security forces seem determined to stop protest of cut off the internet clothes major rose to call to, but hasn't deterred protest as those. so where to from here with both sides determined to continue on their current course. well, it's hard to know. clearly, there are some negotiations happening behind the scenes that are not public, both by the prime minister, meeting with members of these resistance committees and meeting with members of the political parties in the country, trying to find a new way forward,
2:04 am
a new political agreement that all sides can agree on at the same time, i think the military and security forces are also trying to build a stronger political coalition for themselves. and i think you're, what you're seeing is the prime minister stuck between the democratic opposition to taking to the streets week after week, and the military with whom he is in a political partnership with right now. and so i really think all pressure is on the prime minister to try to cut a deal that allows him to govern, allows him to pick a cabinet and satisfies the needs of the st. want to see more democracy. and what about the role or the leverage of the international community right now to stop the military from consolidating more power, especially given the state of sedans, economy, for instance, the help that it needs from organizations right now, like the international monetary fund. well,
2:05 am
i think the greatest leverage that the international community has right now is the fact that it has frozen the majority of the financial assistance, several $1000000000.00 worth of financial assistance that had been promised to sudan as a function of the democratic transition. so on october 25th, when the qu happened, the debt relief process from the i m f. world bank funding. and then bilateral funding from the e, u. united states, and e u member states was all frozen. and so the, the military is quite anxious to see that money turned back on the international community. and is, is in a position right now to dictate the terms under which that money would be restarted . and i think there's 2 sets of job, you know, packages that, that, that the international community wants to see. first on the political side, the military allowing the prime minister to choose his cabinet, allowing him to make political appointments at the state and local level. and then secondly,
2:06 am
on the financial side that the military agrees to open its books and allow military corporations to come under federal control under government, civilian government control and begin to relinquish some of the, the power of the purse that the military has held for. so for so long in sudan, so i think the number of, of agenda items to seeing that money turned back on by the international community is very tall right now. and we're not anywhere close to, i think, meeting those conditions to seeing that money turned back on. and what about and national crash or leverage when it comes to things like human rights? you know, the un has ordered an independent investigation into reports that 13 women were raped or gang raped by security forces during protest last week. and the international community right now have any leverage to protect protest as, and their democratic rights. well, they do, i mean, they can, they can make threats, which we've seen very few of actually we have seen more please from the
2:07 am
international community asking the military to respect the right of free assembly and free speech in the country. but what, what we haven't seen is the threat of any kind of punitive measures like sanctions . so even going back to october 25th in the qu, there have been no punitive measures applied to the military targeted or broadly speaking, sanctions on any, any members of the military who conducted the crew or who have carried out abuses against the protesters over the course of the last 6 weeks, we have to remember that 45 people have been killed in these protests. going back to the end of october and there's been no punishment, no consequences for, for those killings. and so i think the international community is in a position to begin to articulate a set of consequences if it doesn't see the military, both on a day to day measure respect, human rights and the, you know, the, the freedom of assembly that, that, that, that the protesters are asking for,
2:08 am
but also seeing them relent on the political and economic measures that are going to be required to see sued and move towards a more democratic transition. as the people in the streets are asking for mr. hanson's great to get your thoughts on this. that is cameron hudson 2 and has live from north carolina. thank you. thank you. now is wally soldiers have injured more than $240.00 palestinian protest as in the town of boca north of nashville as that's according to the palestinian red present. security forces. 5, take ass live, ammunition and rabble close at steam, bullets demonstrations rallied off to the area was close to residence. well, let's get more on this mountain that abraham is joining us live, i believe, from bethlehem via skype near that they have been ongoing tensions in boca, at least over the past week. what's the latest that you're hearing? there is a lot of increasing tension that's taking place in vertical and in all the villages

around the north of the occupied bank where palestinians are saying that the nation alone sending for themselves and they've been organizing local committees to try and fend of secular tax. there has been on the rise lately, but the happening creasing ever since last week when seen in some passing and fight as a shot at. and it's really 2nd car and the killed one shrapner and injured others. and ever since then the 2nd they have been marching and trying to get to an illegal is really in sacramento. how much the husband, the victims from happening in 2005. but then 2nd as a blue tier and an open some sort of a sensor there. busy and this is the location where the 2nd have been, it has been killed and is waiting because i've been trying ever since to get back to the whole mission. they wanted support from their political leadership to kind

of have a 2nd. and instead of it being in that and recognize the out who 16 they didn't get that for, for they've been launching, as you read the prove that have been ending up going into passing in the villages and attacking palestinians, the leases of which was also 2 days ago but also on saturday night they organized themselves, they attempted to get to coffee. and these really army has to trust the palestinian protestants who have been trying to stop the secular tags. and also we've been hearing from our sources that the army didn't allow the subtler to get into a how much outpost through been edge through the 2nd, rounded themselves, an attempt to attack another village called from both field, seen and very situation. and palestinians are trying to get the world's attention
2:11 am
and they say that international protection. absolutely. at a 10 situation is it an escalation of, as you're saying, the settler violence violent incidents a growing and a lot of them have back in from the government. be the thing a lot of support in the government and getting more political reports from a lot of ministers to, to, to tell you this, even in the 2nd themselves in the occupied bank circulars. when you talk about their presence, let's say 20 years ago, you would see the numbers being less and they would be scared from the past indians who were living there for decades. but over the past few years, we're seeing them getting more, excuse me, in numbers, but also there been more courageous. let's look at if we can use that words in the sense that they've been entering villages. attacking calls thing is that is now
2:12 am
leaving, pulsing is very long or both there. i facts and one palestinian official has been telling me that when settlement started to build themselves and having really in them many and these people with bad where jews but they were immigrating from the well, from canada, from different places. but now they're having more of, of, it's really who were born inside. he's a sucker. mr. so considered illegal under rate law. so they didn't suck closer. they act like they have the right and the ownership to the land and they are attacking policy is organizing this and trying to make it so difficult for passing in there so that they have no option. but to me, thank you very much for that from now. and that's neither abraham with the latest. joining us live from bethlehem. thank you. now,

a 3rd sauce disaster and greek waters. and as many days, officials say people, smugglers are increasingly using a dangerous route from turkey to italy, which avoids heavily patrolled areas around the ag and islands petracola, the associate director of the refugee lab at york university. and she says, tragedies like these will become more frequent as immigration policies harden when these horrible tragedies really are a symptom of some of the increasingly hard line, border enforcement policies that we've been tracking and seeing all around europe and indeed the world. and unfortunately, with increasing border enforcement and the way that you know, different contexts across the world are developing, people are sometimes forced to take more dangerous route. we're really talking about open water and, and oftentimes people resort to having to take a small boat that is often overloaded with people. and these votes are not really made to carry large groups of people, for example. and also, you know,
2:22 am
just the basic kind of navigation that is sometimes very difficult is very hard for people who are desperately seeking safety. really important for us to remember that, you know, this kind of sharp border enforcement that we keep all around europe in the book called it for to europe. it will not stop people from seeking safety. instead, it'll compel people to take more dangerous route to try and circumvent being captured by border forces. and at the end of the day, it's really more about thinking about the humanity of it all. we're talking about human beings that are losing their lives at sea. and instead it's incumbent upon all of us to think about how we address the root causes that force people to migrate in the 1st place. now the volcanic eruption on the spanish island of la palmer is officially over optimal than 3 months of daily explosions. the declaration was made following 10 days of low level activity. from the va, have volcano destroyed around 3000 buildings and damaged by farmer vacation systems on the island. the clean up is continuing,
