4:00 pm
this, ah mm mm. this is al jazeera, ah, it's 1300 hours g m t on come all santa maria, we are beginning this news all with breaking news on the russia. ukraine situation on a day that has been dominated, actually by suggestions of a possible summit between the us and russia. we are now getting reports of a significant escalation on that russia ukraine border. in fact, russia's army says it has killed what it is calling saboteurs from ukraine. so let's start with dosa jabari in moscow, following these lines which are coming out of beans effects, news agency, and russia. what more do you have dosa?
4:01 pm
well, according to the russian military, 5 people have been killed as they allegedly attempted to cross the border into russia. now the russian military also says that they have destroyed 2 armored personnel carriers from the ukrainian military that we're in ra, solved region. it is on monday morning. this means that, that russians are accusing the ukrainian military of having armored personnel carriers on russian soil. of course, this is something the ukrainian military has just now denied saying that it is fake news there. i think this is significant now because the in use the information we're getting about this incident allegedly is coming from the russian military itself and not the separatist leaders that we've been hearing from in eastern ukraine in the dumbass region. this is the 1st time the russian army is directly saying what has taken place according to them. of course, all this is happening as there was an influx of refugees leaving the dumbass region
4:02 pm
and crossing over into russia as of friday when there was a call for them to evacuate. the women and children and the elderly from that region because of the ongoing violence that was escalating between the russian back separatist and the ukrainian military. the russians have closed the border from their side, so they're not allowing people to go into ukraine. they're only dealing with the influx of people coming in. this of course, makes the situation much more dangerous, not only for the ongoing diplomatic talks, but also for those people that are trying to get to into russia and into other regions of this country. the roast of region is now one of the many regions that is taking in these people. and they've also declared a state of emergency. we understand that over 70000, people have left that on boss region and the are now in russia. and a number of them will also be arriving in the capital must go on tuesday morning. this of course, is going to be seen as very much
4:03 pm
a major escalation in the ongoing dispute that is happening in that region. and of course, this is going on as president vladimir put you to hold an emergency session with his security council to discuss the ongoing situation in the countries border. this is one of the things that russians had warned against and what the west was warning against as well. saying that there could be a narrative, russia built around a so called false flag operation to justify any kind of action going about going into ukraine. of course, this is all unfolding as we speak, so we'll have to wait and see what more we hear from russian officials in the coming hours. just hold on a 2nd for me to also could we have met back just briefly showing rust of let's have a look at that just to get a context rust of, bordering those, those rushing, separate the separate states of the hands. and on yet the don bus region as it's known, and what russia is saying is that ukrainian armed vehicles were destroyed in rust
4:04 pm
off the russia is claiming those tanks. and 5 people who were killed moved across into ro stuff and they were killed as a result dosage of are you still with us in moscow? ukraine says, from what i'm reading here and you said as well that it's all fake news. this is kind of the narrative, isn't it? that there is this concern about what is being said from either side. and who's telling the truth? of course, it's very difficult to verify the information on the ground in those regions. at the moment, even journalists who are in rust off region are not allowed anywhere near the borders. there is a distance of a few kilometers they have to keep away. so it's very difficult to verify what we are getting from the states and use agencies here in moscow. but they have said that these disputed boarder regence have been a part of a conflict that has been going on for over 8 years now. and the dispute is really
4:05 pm
that between the russian back separatists in don boss and bit the ukranian military . of course it was a minsk agreement that was supposed to bring a some kind of a cease fire to that area. but clearly that is not what is happening now, and the russian president has said that this is one of the main reasons there is so much an instability in that region because they agreement that means that agreement is not being followed by the ukrainian military. of course, the ukrainian military for their part saying is they separate us back. the separatists are the ones that are actually continuing at shelling and firing, add you premium army personnel in that region. and in the middle of all this, we have to remember of course, there's no nearly 2000000 people that live in that area. there are civilians that have really seen conflict after conflict in their daily lives. and many of them that we've spoken to both for my colleagues in the ukrainian side as well as the ones we've heard from crossing into russia. there is just
4:06 pm
a sense of deep despair. the men have been told to stay behind. as of friday, the women and children and the elderly told to evacuate. if you can imagine having to be told in the middle of the night, leave your father, your husband, your brother, behind leave your country and go into a neighboring country. not knowing when you can actually go back home if you will have a home to go back to. so it's really a astonishing situation and it's very, very difficult to imagine the human cost of all this or that told that it's taking on those people. ok, thanks for mel dosa jabari in moscow. moving to tears now his andrew simmons, andrew, actually this is kind of what you always preview to when i last spoke to you. and i last news, are you saying there was a list of things almost which had been claimed and an encounter claimed. and now we can add this one to it. most certainly this split isn't coming as a huge surprise to the officials here and indeed,
4:07 pm
ministers and military commanders. but it has to be said, it is serious. there's no doubt about lat, are they, in the midget responses to words, fake news, and the information was a, has escalated, i would say much more than the actual military situation. are you talking about a $150000.00 troops? well, you're also talking about millions of words, not all of them true about what is going on right now. dos are. busy outlined the situation in the to break away republics in the southeast of this country where there is a, a wall of its own going on. and she outlined the position in terms of the alarm that was raised by da nets and low hands in the past 45 days at the trauma. and, and i'm, i'm not overstating the case of tula that's going on for the civilians and living
4:08 pm
in these, these are break away republics. and we're talking about hundreds of thousands of people. so many of them who've been evacuated and out the roster off region not just most of city, but the roster of region is a very large the the ukrainian military and say is the have slightly no possibility whatsoever that they would send in vehicles or indeed troops or indeed, shall the area because there was a claim only a matter of less than 12 hours ago that sir, let's ukraine had showed ra stove and there was an inquiry going on. in fact, sir, we're seeing here details of, of that shelley of the alleged shelling. i'm the ukranian saying was no way that have the range to actually get a shell into the country and know they have the motivation. why would they dimitra? oh. busy cool labor on the foreign minister who's in brussels right now. lead in
4:09 pm
the forefront of a call for an investigation into that. so really are not shock here at all. expectation of this and real serious concern. and a reminder, andrew, about what's or who, which country is actually really involved here. we've been so much talk about a potential summit between the us and russia. and ukraine was already putting his hand out to say, actually, we're the ones at most riskier. that's right. i think if you go to the look back on the weekend or when a president vladimir zelinski outlined in his speech to the munich security conference, he said that sir, the country, the ukraine, had to be factored in. more with the talks negotiations because let's face it, it's citizens are most at risk with this escalation in the conflict. so basically,
4:10 pm
there is a real desire here to get more traction with the world leaders in terms of particularly nato and the united states, with ukraine's interests being put right on top of the, the stack, so to speak. and also concern if there was to be a summit. and i say if, because the kremlin has outlined doubt about whether or not this chris, this summit could take place. if that is the case, they don't, won't be trained, doesn't want anything in the way of concessions to bite into its own a situation here, they won't de escalation or right away and they will a ceasefire along this. this a line of the content line is it's called the phone line, which separates ukraine from the 2 self declared republics. thank you. andrew simmons in key f. finally, alan fisher at the white house. i what have you been hearing from the, by the administration this morning?
4:11 pm
while the united nations have now received a letter from the un ambassador from the u. s. a but she but crocker seeing that they have credible information that if the russians went to invade ukraine, they have a so called het list of people that they would immediately imprison center labor camps or perhaps even kill. and on that list would include journalist anti corruption activists, people who are involved in religious or ethnic communities. and those of the l g, b, t, q i plus community as well. so this one and going to michelle bashfully saying that there is real consent, jake sullivan, who's the national security advisor? well, unusually for a public holiday here in the united states, he's been doing the rounds of the morning shoes in the united states just in the last hour or so. and he says, what the russians are planning is to repress any opposition to them. if their tanks crossed the border, we believe that any military operation of the size, scope,
4:12 pm
and magnitude of what we believe the russians are planning will be extremely violent. it will cost the lives of ukrainians and russians, civilians and military personnel alike. but we also have intelligence to suggest that there will be an even greater form of brutality, because this will not simply be some conventional war between 2 armies. it will be a war waged by russia on the ukrainian people to repress them to crush them, to harm them. and that is what we laid out in detail for the un, because we believed that the world must mobilize to counter this kind of rush and aggression. should those tanks roll across the border. i, as we anticipate they very well may do in the coming hours or days. king sullivan saying the italians could rule over the border in the coming hours and days. and that is a concern for the biden administration. they know that there's a meeting plan between secretary of state onto the lincoln and his russian kind of art said guy love it all on thursday,
4:13 pm
after the elisa palace and potus yesterday put out a note saying that joe biden and vladimir putin could possibly meet the white house then put out its own statements, seeing as a lot of conditions to this. first of all, no meetings are going to take place if those russian tanks crossed the border. and of course, they are deeply concerned that love at all and blinking might not meet if they do. they will set the agenda for the 2 leaders. how quickly that can be organized, we have that will be held all entirely unclear that the moment a bit of the fog of war as far as the white house is concerned. but certainly the fight in manifestation, in no doubt as we had on friday from june by themself. vladimir putin has made the decision to invade is no just a case of when a 1000 fisher at the white house rounding out of coverage just for now on russia, ukraine tension. i
4:14 pm
will return to that story later, of course. but for now, some other news in iran and cutter of announce new cooperation in several areas as president abraham racy signed agreements with cut his m e a shift. i mean, been how many tiny on his 1st official visits to a golf state, rice, even doha, to attend to regional gas conference. i've got no harm, at least probably like a lead him of our dogs have dealt with bilateral, important matters. this includes economy, investment, energy, and tourism, which will help boost relations between the 2 countries. it's my pleasure to sign a number of agreements and memorandum of understanding with iran. this is quite important and we need to follow up the implementation of these. you also spoke about regional issues, international issues that are of interest for both countries. an issue, the stability and security of the reason ought to be reaffirm the dialogue is the best way to sort out all the problems and to face all the challenges in the region
4:15 pm
. in addition to that, president rice, he talked about the ongoing efforts to salvage the 2015 iran nuclear deal. him because he had the order of the united states to prove its will to lift sanctions in order to achieve an agreement for donations benefit guarantees and closing down of old political dose. years are of wide and importance. our region has entered a new era after decades of the presence of occupying forces, the region is going back to its original owners. from our share with us here in the studio. now he was at that news conference earlier today. why don't we deal with the cut around the agreements 1st? what actually came out of that? so several agreements obviously, as you know, come all relationships between to her on and don't have been strengthening in recent years, contrary to other gulf countries and iran, we. so finding of deals, as you mentioned, business tourism, politics, even in terms of foreign policy, my mom to move understandings and so forth. and obviously with the world cup run
4:16 pm
being one of the countries that is qualified for the walking up. and, you know, looking to tap into getting visitors from there for the big events. but most of the different company probably was the statement by country. does that mean shift? i mean, been some of the money where he said that his country was following very closely. the vienna talks saying that it was in part of the trust that those talks succeed and almost hinting at the fact that the cause i wouldn't mind playing a greater role in mediating it's always a brand that is all about mediation, conflict resolution, and so forth. and this is something that the stress was very important thing that you know, that they would like to see the steel succeed was protecting every country sovereign rights to access a peaceful use of nuclear energy. so that was probably one of the more significant ones that we could see more of a country role in the coming weeks with regards to resurrecting that deal. okay,
4:17 pm
my thing is, you've mentioned the iran nuclear. thank you. we're just bringing the hashem reporting from vienna, where the nuclear talks happening, the on ins. they're suggesting and mirroring. in fact, what some european diplomats have said that there is progress being made like m al, everyone is saying progress is being made and that everyone is optimistic about reaching get deal very soon. however, no one is really announcing this the steve. now, earlier today we spoke to a weston, a diplomat, and he said that by the end of this week there should be a real progress. and there should be an announcement just in case in from to iran and the united states from washington, delaware, and says the queries now, what are the issues that are still standing? the assurances that iran is asking is asking for from the united states that it won't walk out to be the same like president donald trump did in 2018. and from the
4:18 pm
other side, from united states side, the advance centrifuges. and what iran is going to do with them, are they going to be destroyed? are they going to be kept in iran, or will be exported or taken to a set countries? these are the main issues right now that are being discussed and are the, the ones that thought. but eventing a deal from happening or else i would think is set all the technical issues are set or the political issues are set up for the financial issues. also because the main, the main thing about the 2015 deal was the financial a side of it. so all these issues are, are being discussed and, and negotiated the prison, a swap which is a parallel path that's going on. also, somewhere else is also being discussed. however, the main issues are these 2 main ones, the assurances and the centrifuges. and this is what we are waiting hearing for you enough to hear news about thanks to,
4:19 pm
that's alhashan that the iran nuclear talks in vienna. now light rain has given some hope to cruisers, battled wildfires in northern argentina for weeks. now these fires blackening about 30000 hectares of land in the worst affected province. korean this stephanie deca has the story. the choking smoke makes the day look like night. wildfires have been searing away, parts of argentine is north eastern province of korean t is brought on by drought and high temperatures. b, b gourd, gaudy cornel gone. so this is a typical historic, it's never happened. we've never looked something like this. we're really overwhelmed. this is what i can tell you know, this is a blue for the province. this region is dependent on agriculture. around 10 percent of its land has been destroyed by the fires that have burned for days. local people have joined the fire fighters to help america. what is about the truth is that

korean t, as provinces, going through a catastrophe with the fires, a lot of animals, flora and fauna have been lost. and on top of that, there's the jobs. what is to become of us if it's all last tomorrow? some rain started to fall on sunday night, desperately needed to help wet the joy flammable land. then a soon imperative what of letter a letter. it makes me feel powerless to help all the people, because we all live here and to protect the animals and our land, which is the most important thing. the fire is also getting closer to a national park in the area. one of our gen tina's largest ecosystems, many animals have been killed, real repairing the damage is expected to cost millions of dollars. the governor of the province has declared it an ecological and environmental disaster zone. stephanie decker, i'll g 0 let's get you caught up on cobra news and an announcement is expected on ending current

restrictions in england earlier ban plans among the measures likely to go as the requirement for people to self isolate if they test positive or if they have kind of symptoms now it doesn't mean it's been eradicated in the u. k, but the trends are definitely heading down. i've got some 6 month snapshots for you here from our world. and data is going to go through then quickly. business number of cases, which were at a peak of 180000 a day that was at the peak of all nicole, now more like 40000 a day. there are still around 12000 people getting some sort of treatment and hospital. but as you can see, that's come down from a peak in about 20000 in the crone and deaths at about a 150 coco related deaths a day. but that's still very much trending downwards as well. if we put that all into one shop, it requires a different approach. but bear with me here. this uses at this point here, which is early 2021 as a sort of peak for all those metrics, 100 percent baseline. from there you can see very clearly infections went way up, you know, it's up 300 percent on what they were boss,
4:22 pm
hospital intensive care and confirm debts all went down and it is that get rid of the arrows there for a 2nd. is this area, and here this sort of separation between the number of people infected and all of those other metrics. that is what the u. k. would point to, to justify this decision. jonah hall in london, us laid out all the numbers there. actually start to wonder how much the numbers will sort of once a matter going forward. but clearly the u. k. is moving to a different phase there. where says we live with this thing much talked about, it's been for a few months now. this moment when potentially oma cron proves itself to be more transmissible. we know that of course, but less effective in its health consequences to the extent that we can as a society start to live with its bars. johnson, the prime minister here looking to lead the way with that announcement,
4:23 pm
we expect one to parliament later this afternoon and then on television, the prime minister will set out his strategy to the public for living with cove. it an extraordinary moment, effectively becoming the 1st government to declare the pandemic, all but over lifting the last remaining restrictions. it will no longer from later this week. be a legal requirement to self isolate, even if you test positive with cove it the government also talking about a phased withdrawal of free testing available to the public. so as i said, an extraordinary moment, but preceded today by extraordinary scenes with downing street itself, a cabinet meeting that was to convene this morning to, to rubber stamp this plan. delayed at the very last, 2nd ministers were already in the building. when a spot broke out between the health secretary started java and the treasury secretary richie. soon as we're told over the mechanisms for withdrawing that
4:24 pm
testing, it's now been resolved. we understand doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's a pretty edifying spectacle for a government that is desperately trying to put forward a unified face that wants to tell the country that covert is no longer a threat. and all of this happening, remember, as the queen, age 95 going on 96, he's suffering from code which he tested positive over the weekend were told by buckingham palace. she is showing only mild, cold like symptoms, and he's continuing light duties. but as i said, the government trying to put forward an image of competence control it can it that inspires confidence in the leadership of forest johnson, a prime minister fighting for his political future. so far on wednesday, they've achieved a little less than that. the full picture, they would jonah hull ha in london. thank you so much, jonah. now in australia tourism operators say they're looking forward to rebuilding after the relaxation of covet border rules. the government's been shifting away

from a fortress like approach, which prevented even citizens from entering and leaving sarah clark as our report now from brisbin. oh, jubilance and excitement as tourists and international passages touchdown in australia. after almost 2 years of border closures being out my best friend, i haven't seen him since 2018 and he made it back just in time for my wedding in ponies. i'm really excited actually. yes. i'm. i'm going to see my friends for the 1st time in the since 5 here. that a loss was here. yeah. surreal. it doesn't feel quite real like it. it feels a bit val. it wasn't just tourists arriving, but families reuniting over the last 2 years. and strategy has pursued a tough 0 covered 19 strategy. quarantine restrictions have also been in place posing a major hurdle for australian citizens wanting to return. i didn't,
4:26 pm
i flotsap potentially be delayed because of what's going on overseas, but, and there's very few apache ration plots really to even for london is it was like $55000.00 strange one to come home and it's very flotsam outside, you know, it was pretty green that was good to see my sister again and i come i to go see mom and dad. now because of a morning bout them for 2 years. australia has one of the highest immunization rights in the world with more than 90 percent of people. over 16 fully vaccinated tourists coming here must be double vaccinated or have a medical exemption. more than 1000000 tourist visas had been issued for arrival this month. tourism was one of the fastest growing sectors in australia's economy before the pandemic in 2019 it contributed around $30000000000.00, but the border closures earned the nation, the reputation as fortress, australia, and tourism groups know they've got a big job on their hands to convince tourists to return, there's a huge job ahead of us. we have had an incredible disruption to our industry. no
4:27 pm
international visitors may disruption to people mystic market as well. but australia that made last about $18000000000.00 worth of international revenue along and to put it all back. it's a complex machine or industry. you have a wholesale ready but not every state in australia is welcoming arrivals. western australia has been closed to both international travelers and had quarantine restrictions in place for vaccinated australian susan's for most of the pandemic. it will eventually open its borders in march. 0, clark out 0, brisbin australia. just before we take a break to check on the world, whether with current hello there will start in south asia in a weather system that is pulling east out of afghanistan is going to bring from heavy snow to northern areas of pakistan, sleet, as well, and freezing rain and those conditions will shimmy across and northern areas of india. by the time we get to choose day and the mid week,

it's also gonna kick up some brisk winds, which will clear the air in new delhi. but we could see some sandstorms in places like rochester, the temperature in you, dell is well above the average in the high twenty's. as in go towards the end of the week that will cool slightly further south. this is a much clearer picture if you showers popping off in the south of india, we are going to see the rain intensify in sri lanka come wednesday. but along the coastal areas, it's a pretty clear picture. now it's pretty clear across the north of china as we move to east asia, down in the south. however, it's a different story. we're seeing some intense rain that's going to shimmy across east falling heavily in taiwan by wednesday. it clears up for hong kong. however, the temperature here is likely to pick up by the time we get into thursday with some sunshine coming in sunshine for the korean peninsula. if we look to japan, we are going to see more snow in the north. it eases on wednesday, but it remains clear in tokyo with a temperature at 9 degrees celsius with fun shine that show ever 70 is thank you

4:31 pm
there. russians of added that 5 attackers were killed. also, jabari is in moscow. keeping an eye on this one, bring us right up to date, dosa. well, according to the russian military, i 5 saba chores, have been killed by when they were trying to cross the border into russia earlier on monday. and, and this news came from the russian military itself. and they also said that they've destroy to armor personnel. carriers said that belong to the ukrainian military in arista of region. that is well within russian territory as well. and they said that no other russian personnel were injured during this a legit attack. i think this is important because this is an area that is now seeing an influx of people crossing the border into russia after the separatist leaders in don yeske and the hans region on friday. a said that the children,
4:32 pm
elderly and women have to evacuate the area because of the ongoing fighting. and because it's no longer safe, there has been over 70000 people that have crossed the border into russia from that roast off crossings. and the russians as a result of now declared a state of emergency in that region. and to deal with these people coming in and they also said they've closed the border. so there are not allowing anybody to go into ukraine from that area. i think it's important to highlight 2 things here. one is that the information is coming from the russian military. this is the 1st time we've heard of the incidents that have been ongoing for the past few days. and they have all the information has been coming from the separatists movements, leaders in those regions. and don boss at this is the 1st on the russian military has issued these statements. also the separatist leaders, the russian back separately. leaders in don boss, have said that earlier on monday they asked for russian military assistance and financial aid saying that there are now under constant attack and that they cannot
4:33 pm
handle the ongoing fighting that is taking place allegedly, between them and the ukrainian military. of course, this is now denied by the ukranian officials in kiev, saying that that is not what is happening on the ground, but very difficult for us to verify here. but this is the narrative that somebody from countries were warning against saying there could be possibly a false flag operation that could happen for russia to justify sending their troops onto the cranium. so whether or not that is what is taking place for me to be seen and very difficult to verify. but i think it's important to have the full picture when we're talking about the information that is coming from the russian officials at this point. thank you. dawson, jabari and moscow now to hold it until her made in the eastern ukrainian city of constantino hska. as dorothy was outlining there, it's was difficult to actually verify these sorts of things. i don't know what you've been able to hear or see, but it just points to the idea that this is the type of thing which people would
4:34 pm
have been worried about the type of spark, which could ignite a whole conflict was certainly it does raise cancer that i have to say, i just was away from this region for, for what for 10 days and the atmosphere is quite different. now people were brushing up earlier the idea that they could be a, an escalation in the conflict may be even an invasion. now they're not so sure. are now d, ukrainian miniatures actually refuting what is coming out of russia. they're saying that it's a false flag. and it is as an attempt to by russia to drag ukraine into the conflict and to blame ukraine for initiating any kind of escalation. the good. the military also says that those pictures that have been floating around of the alleged checkpoint at the border between ukraine and russia do not point to
4:35 pm
actually a border crossing, but in the words used by the military. here. more of a small storage shed, the miniature went on saying that it did not fire any kind of work to the res, saying that, that the out to very units are behind the contact line in the rear positions as for the immense agreement. and then it went on accusing the other side. the russian back separate is an russia of actually violating that men's agreement saying that since february 17th they have been more than 80 violations. i know from those were 80 violations. 72 were using weapons that are forbidden, under the men's agreement. and then it went on saying that also some civilian targets where head we know about the school. the military also said that about 19 buildings were hey, so you do have
4:36 pm
a completely different narrative coming out of here and obviously pointing the finger to the other side when it comes to this increase in tension. that is very palpable at the moment. what abdul hamid is in the east of ukraine. thank you. hodder. now, even before any of this news was coming to him, this broke just before we went on with his news, albriton was already saying it is seen intelligence that the russian presidents, ukraine invasion plan has in effect, begun not in baba in london, bring us up to date on that one. that's right. in the last couple of hours, a spokesperson for prime minister far as johnson has said, the intelligence with seeing suggest russia intends to launch an invasion of the spokesperson goes on to say we're seeing elements of the russian playbook that we would expect to see in certain situations starting to play out in real time. now this chime is with what bar is. johnson himself said on sunday, in
4:37 pm
a television interview, in which he said invasion by russia could be the biggest wall or could, what would ensue, could be the biggest war in europe. since 1945, he was accused by his critics of fame hungry, exaggerating, but he did say that things like the explosions that have been witnessed in the dawn bass region. are signs in bars. johnson's. what in his eyes, that's the plan as he calls it, has in some sense he's begun. that's what he told a tv injury on sunday. so clearly, britain suggesting that it has said intelligence, let's not forget, it, sheds intelligence closely with the united states. britain clearly believes that russia has taken things to a new level and what we heard from from dawson and heard of it clearly indicate that the propaganda war is well underway. but britain now hinting that things vera

. the things are further on van that without giving us any detail at all right now . thank you for that. not in baba is in london. well, social media and publicly available satellite pictures are all being used to track the movement of russian forces on the board with ukraine, posts from truck drivers and others are helping to build a clear picture of what's happening. leah hunting reports, the satellite images from a u. s. company show a build up of russian troops on the border with ukraine. fields and forests once largely untouched in russia, now covered and tracks from military vehicles about 15 kilometers from the border with ukraine. ah, social media post from people in the region are giving more clues about what is happening on the ground. al jazeera was able to independently verify this video, posted by a truck driver passing armored russian vehicles in my. what's my,

the other content includes pictures and posts from the wives of some russian military personnel talking about their husbands activities. the information is being used by investigative journalists to build a picture of what is happening in the region for years of russia. we went, saw useful because their last was out exactly what russian forces a amassing head of any possible invasion. those included how to pay off evasion, and any final reasons that they're making to leave his position head off, they see the day invasion. so the videos come from russia should usefully sachi examine what's going on in the ground. and the online content is making its way into popular culture. one of the reasons, one of the reasons we know what's going on with russia's military is social media, because video is a russian troops massing on ukraine's borders are being widely disseminated on tick tock, leading the media to label the conflict, the tick tock war. the information war is not just being conducted by governments,
4:40 pm
but on people's mobile phones. leah harding al jazeera mia mas military government is contesting a genocide case against the rank of muslims that i taught you in court without unsung so cheap. the deposed leader presented me in mas occupants at the international court of justice in 2019, but because she was removed just over a year ago, in a military, it is the gambia. but as far as case accusing me and more of a genocide in a military crackdown in 2017, the united nations describes what happened to me and my 5 years ago with a textbook example of ethnic cleansing. the amazon forces lead a crackdown in woodson majority reclaimed state, following a tax on police posts blamed on rank of fighters. soldiers were accused of mass killings, rape and torture. and the $7000.00 people were killed in a month. the villages were torched around 3 quarters of a 1000000 ring gear,
4:41 pm
fled across the border into neighboring bangladesh. so let's start with step boston in the hague. it seems quite a unique case. i mean, the way it's actually been brought by the gambia. yes, absolutely. it's a unique case and also soon as the only international justice that could be brought to drink after these atrocities that you just mentioned happening since 2017. and it's also unique because it's a state the gambia was not a victim of the other states in this, in this trial. so they are not a victim of me on my but they have filed this case now the both the countries are members of the genocide convention, and that is also the consumption here at stake in this trial. and me and my delegation here at the court of justice and the have basically the military wrapped
4:42 pm
up representative roberts. yes, they are now arguing that it's not the gum. yeah. who could file this case because it's basically the oh i see the organization. lemme corporation. busy was brought forward and they come because they're not a state. so they basically say, and they have said that in the past this court is there is no jurisdiction to have this great case on trial. and the representative of the military regime has been arguing this for the last couple of hours. and interestingly, it was the same argument brought forward by uncensored she in 2019. and as you said, there's a lot of change for things that the appearance of i'm trying to achieve because she has been removed from office, his jails now for 6 years and for a 100 years entails. but also her representatives of her out the government are saying that they now do accept this case and also do accept the jurisdiction of the court. and the day in fact,
4:43 pm
should be represented me on mar because they are the real government and not the military regime. so a lot of debate about this going on and they have actually asked the court to hear the case for the court seems to have made a decision. and i'm now here in the representation by the military regime dash complex cases. and at that step, wanston in the hague, tanveer chandry in darker and bangladesh. what isn't complex? because we know very clearly the plight of the ringer, who so many came across to bangladesh. i can't imagine life has improved for them much at all. no, the 5 years on the situation in the camp is a very gloomy, predictably. so now we've been talking to many of the ro hang us the periodic leave . and last couple of days about what to think about. does international court of justice thing like in 2019 they're very hopeful that justice will prevail if nothing else,
4:44 pm
it's symbolic for them. it says that on on descend the intricate details, but it will be very symbolic, moral victory for them. if a vardek in favor of them is given now over all the camp situation is not so good just to give you an example even to 2 years ago when we visited the cam, there was a sense of happiness and freedom. despite all the limitations they had that hope, but this is not the case anymore. there's increase of gang violence in the camp. tar, for a prominent rowing, a leader was killing september last year, falling month. another 6 were killing tough gang violence. there is a fraction of the ring as involving drug trafficking. it killed in by cross fire with the security outside is not the government itself is coming under domestic pressure to resolve this crisis, which is why that crack down with security. the camps are now barbed wire. fence most off it. exactly. and then they're there to hang as under pressure to relocate to a remote coastal island called boston char. at least 20000 have been relocated. the
4:45 pm
target is to move our bod, 100000. i don't mean guys that most of them don't want to go there because of isolation and separation anxiety because of their friends and family in the main camp. and we also have to put this into perspective, the 100000 new babies i bond since the influx hurting to agent. now, half the population of the camp are children without formal education, duration is loss. the government has banned any kind of community education and the house education within the camp. only learning centers are permitted, which are run by the agencies so that some major complained by don't hang up families yet on see my child. there's no also send the repeats ation with the political crisis in man mark. so the sense of the whole and some, some sense or something in future is just not dead there. they're totally hopeless and suffering from anxiety and depression. many of them we spoke to thank you for all of that 10 v. chandry reporting from docker in bangladesh. little bit of news

the russian president vladimir putin is speaking and the e u. united. listen, security council, fishy? and all these things showed that they don't want to do anything regarding her these matters, despite that, russia is having a lot of things as and is exerting to loverts the an older, to sort out this crisis in a peaceful way. this is the situation until today. our aim, fuller is the name of our meeting, also is to listen to our colleagues and to no there stepson pacific to be taken in this regard. we also need to know the learners can go dance to which, okay,
4:57 pm
it goes towards me, move towards russia and their decision of the duma in this regard is quite important as well regarding recognizing and closing their lo ganske independence and sovereignty and the other public as well as like here in this regard to say that these matters are quite related to each other, different viewpoints, but they're all related to each other and they're related to the international ashes are on this connection and in europe as well. because the use of a crane there as a tool in confrontation with our country represents a threat to run
4:58 pm
a big threat and the dangerous threat. that's why during the recent months and the at the end of last year, we have activated our work with our partners in washington in order to reach an agreement regarding the security procedures. and regarding how to guarantee and understand the development of situation in peace. in our country, this is our priority. the priority is not to confront. the press is no confrontation, the priority is development. and we have to understand the situation that we live in, as i said, more than once, russia, if one is facing such a threat, accepting the grant, we are a member of the nato, is a threat to our country. our country is improving and is a valid make. and it's quite clear that he's,
4:59 pm
that nato countries or some of the counters who one to fight with their other members in case of aggression. lemme me say that they are trying to consider crimea their land. this in itself is a direct threat to us when they are trying to use military force to take back you crimea. but this means that there nato will be any of them in a heavy la, forced to take part in these will not be her things. and you know that some members of the nato are, again, is a ukraine to be a member of the nato. and despite that, despite the, are not accepting this, but in bucharest, they have signed
5:00 pm
a declaration that allows ukraine and georgia to be members of the nato, under the pressure of the knotted states. if this is to be done under the pressure of the northern states, other steps can be also done under the pressure on united states. now we need to know that her or anything can be accepted. anything can be rejected or documents adequate, a potent. but despite every think, something has to be written on papers has to be in a document. and let me say that we can not even agree on something. and this spy.
