or at the scene that's cost to rosalind jordan who's joining us live from washington d. c. this news is just breaking in the last hour or so, rosalind, what do we know? we don't know much. a local law enforcement has not yet addressed reporters about the scene which is happening on the city, south west side. the truck is a sitting on a road that tracks along some railroad tracks and on the other side is next to an industrial yard where tractor trailers are, can be seen up from the air there. a lot of helicopters taking images of the scene . however, they have not started uh, removing any of the people who were found dead in the back of this tractor trailer . this is still a very early investigation and it's probably going to be a criminal investigation because people, one were in the back of a of a vehicle where they weren't supposed to be. and to,
5:03 am
because of the number of people who have been killed. now we don't know so many things about the situation. why was the truck there? did police pull the truck over? or was the truck sitting on that on the side of that road came down a road and someone called it in. it's again, it's in an industrial park zone, so it wouldn't have been unusual for a tractor trailer to be there. who are the people? are they men, are they women? are they children? how old are they? what are their nationalities? did anyone have a identification indicating where they were coming from or where they were trying to go? did they find the driver of this truck? was the driver on seen, or was the truck left unattended? so many questions that need to be answered. and so this is going to involve not just the local police and the local medical examiner, but it's also going to involve of the, of federal immigration authorities as well as state officials. really, to try to piece this together. it's probably fair to say that it's going to be some

hours before we actually start to hear what exactly authorities think lead to the deaths of more than 40 people. now some other people have been taken to local hospitals. if they are in shape to be interviewed, authorities have not made that information public and it is worth pointing out that the mexican foreign minister marcella has said that the consul general in the state of texas is going to report to the scene. but he even stresses that we don't know the nationalities of the people involved in this in this tragedy, frankly. but they want to be there in order to provide assistance. but the newer consulate is in houston and that's a 3 hour drive. east of san antonio. well, it's, thanks very much indeed. as you're saying, of course, this is just breaking as soon as we get any more, more confront confirmations about what's going on. we're going to come back to you, but for now roslyn johnson. thank you very much. indeed. while with

a war and ukraine now into it's 5th months, nato's labeled russia. i direct threat to security to the region. speaking in brussels before the lines, the son of this week, secretary general jones told him bargains, plans to significantly boost the number of troops on high allowed from 40000 to more than 300000. in germany, leaders of the g 7 wealthy nations have increased sanctions on russia and the voted to leave him in place for as long as it takes it rains president, let me say he's addressed the summit, pleading for more arms and assistance south. austin, reports not from the summit in gun was partly guessing with 800000 police officers guarding the summit. these protests as ro deadlock and try to grab the attention of the leaders urging the g 7 to do everything possible to stop the war. and ukraine. ok, good. talking about the war, the destruction of the world, the climate catastrophe. we want to show our protest inside the castle,
5:06 am
ukrainian presidents, lansky invited to attend fire. video link was asking for more weapons. telling the g 7 leaders. he wanted the war to be over before winter for their party. united states announced it with st. new, advanced air defense systems to ukraine. while g, 7 leaders disgust increasing military fire power nato chief, he installed burke in brussels, announced a large expansion of battle ready troops. we will strengthen our forward the fences . we will enhance or back groups in the eastern part of the alliance, up to be gade levels. we will transform the nato response force and increase the number of our high read this forces to well over 300000 such massive numbers, making this the biggest overhaul of nato's deterrence since the cold war law east. these are creek. so it is clear that this war has a very deep impact on international relations. as i said before,
5:07 am
i see rushes attack on ukraine as a turning point. all international rules of corporation have been broken, especially that borders can't be changed by force. we as g 7, agree that these will be long lasting effects and will stay with us a very long time and influence international relations for a very long time. it's been a delicate balancing act here at the castle 1000 meters high, live a very and out how to increase crash on russia and continue to support your grain. are making sure that sanctions won't back fire on t 7. economies. developing countries are also playing a very high price, indonesian president joker, we, dodo invited, as one of the guests to the summit, urged the g 7 to find a solution to the food crisis. hitting developing nations as a result of the war to gather with un secretary general antonio goods terrorist leaders discussed ways to lift a blockade of ukrainian food, stuck with widespread humanitarian disaster looming and the war and ukraine.

ongoing. g 7 lead us will leave the bavarian alps with multiple crises unresolved next on the agenda. the nato summit in madrid. later this week, steadfast and al jazeera in garbage, boston kia, our diplomatic editor, james dane, says more on tuesdays nato summit. when they leave here, all the g 7 members will be on their way to madrid for nato summit, japan's not a native member, but it's been invited to and there is an intense amount of last minute diplomacy going on back in may, sweden and finland applied to join nato, all of the nato countries said yes, apart from one turkey, and now there are fresh negotiations. 11th hour negotiations, a summit before the summit, taking place in madrid to try and change turkey's mind. the swedish prime minister says she's reasonably confident i spoke with president out of this saturday, and i would say it was a good and constructive talk. and earlier today of fishes from sweden,
5:09 am
finland and turkey at met here in brussels for new round of talks. and my strong hope is that this dialogue can be successfully concluded in the near future. ideally, before the summit at the same news conference, nato sec general yan stultz berg said that sweden had done a great deal to try and deal with her. his concerns introducing new legislation planning new prosecutions, potentially and looking at extradition requests that have been made by turkey. he said that counter terrorism would be one of nato's key issues that it looks at in the forthcoming summit. and of course, for turkey, county, terrorism means the p. k. k, and other kurdish groups cut hawker as a form of you or some baset or to nato, and a distinguished fellow with the center for european policy analysis. he says russia is now limited and how it can respond to nato's expansion brushes already put a lot into its armed forces and is deployed them forward. now those forces are
5:10 am
fighting in ukraine and really bogged down. they don't have a lot to spare. so while they were complained about rhetorically, i don't see this is changing anything. i also think it's a very prudent measure by nato to send a clear message to russia. that's the kind of aggression that is conducting and ukraine is not something that they could successfully pursue against the nato country. this is not about the conflict in ukraine directly. this is about sending a message to russia. the nato means what it says. it will protect and defend the territory of all the member states, including the baltic states, including poland, including romania and moscow, should have no illusions about that to attack any natal member would be tantamount to an attack on all new members. now as far as the war and ukraine goes, this is a reaction from way because we've seen the aggression and the brutality that russia is capable of in europe. and so this is persuaded, nate, members, this is necessary. it is not. however,
5:11 am
going to relate to any kind of direct intervention into the car within ukraine by nato. that's something that all of the leaders of later have ruled out. i think it's going to take an awful long time and a lot of rebuilding of trust by russia. if they expect countries to reduce their arm and since relax, because as long as tutoring is leading, russia, you have a war criminal right there in charge of the country. they are defending their aggression against ukraine as though it is justified in some way. that is unacceptable. to any other european state. and so as long as russia is in this posture, this kind of preparedness foster by nature will continue. at least 16 people have been killed on total russian missile hit, a shopping mall in ukraine. it happened in the central city of crime in shock. dozens of others were injured. charles charter postal chief the shopping mall in the city of crimean shook and central ukraine was reportedly full of people when
5:12 am
the russian missile hit ukraine's president. vladimir zalinski said there were around a 1000 people inside at the time versus kilda, a delay on what center of come and georgia, today's russian strike on a shopping center in chrome. and chuck is one of the most daring terrorist acts in european history or a peaceful city in an ordinary shopping center inside women, children, ordinary civilians, believe this is not a mistaken hit by missiles. this is a calculated russian strike at the shopping center h. as the place sprayed emergency services battled on the billowing smoke to put out the fire, ukraine's national security and defense council said, preliminary data suggested the strike was from one of 2 x 22 cruise missiles fired from an aircraft. it said the other hit, the cities, sports stadium will be. this is how the shelves look in the supermarket. this is what the russians did, but it's scary to imagine the horror people can suffer by simply going shopping.
5:13 am
ukraine's foreign minister, the metro co labor tweeted russia is a disgrace to humanity and it must face the consequences. the response should be more heavy arms for ukraine, more sanctions on russia, and more business leaving russia. ukraine in authority say there were no strategic or military targets near the shopping mall. on sunday, ukrainian military said a russian missile hit the cities bridge of the denise river, killing one person, and injuring 5. moscow says it's trying to avoid civilian casualties, but hardly a day goes by when a civilian is not either killed or injured in a russian missile strike a long way from the front lines. charles, rapid al jazeera give glen, bringing more on that story that we were leading was earlier on. more than 40 people being found dead inside a truck trailer in the us state of texas. a police spokesman has been making

5:21 am
i think that's being attempted right now. since you do have the shelter migrants or the i have no idea, jo. g, are these mostly been, are they, are they women or is it a mix up? it's going to be a mix. absolutely, a mix and going up, looking at the scene though there's, you know, there's a mix of males and females. that's better to see. or children know that we've, that were found, we have not found any deputy off itself. we stop, i guess is somebody with a mexican consulate brody can, can, can, can you read it just to let us know what, why, what his look it up and says he'll in moment come tony, what's your question? yes. even with somebody with a mexican government, with you. and why is why it's, you know, if the mexico city you end up with his ears. i don't know that on that i don't know really cheap. are you able to tell us any of any of your national warranties? you know, any lever not at this point, you know what language?

what am the city do for those 16 were in the hospital who are in the hospital like in the city? well, i mean they're going to provide medical aid and try to revive the folks to make sure that they get healthy beyond that this again, the federal investigation and so related to what happens with that part of it. we're going to wait for the federal teams to brief us. what is the reaction that is happening? you're watching all the 0 and we've been bringing you statements that we made by some of the emergency services who are dealing with the 46 or at least 46 bodies that have been discovered inside the truck. suspected to being carrying migrants outside the city of san antonio. some of the same statements that have been made just in the last few minutes. one party were made by the san antonio fire department, which said that 16 people had been transported 12 adults and 4 children had been
5:25 am
taken to hospital. they were also saying that the patients that they had seen where hot to the touch, i'm suffering from exhaustion that the san antonio police chief had earlier said that the initial lots have been given about 10 minutes to 6 local time. he gave details of how the, the bodies were found in the trailer. he said that 3 people were in custody. let's bring in a raw jordan who's been monitoring the situation for us in washington. d. c. quite a lot of detail that's been coming out to the press conference that we've been hearing over the last few minutes was but there are still many, many questions or the authorities cannot say who the 3 people that they have detained are they, you did not offer an explanation, as of yet why this is a federal investigation and not a local investigation which does suggest that they may be dealing with a human smuggling or human trafficking of situation. which is of course,
5:26 am
a matter for federal law. they have not to have been able to interview the 12 adults and for rob juveniles or they suggested that these of 4 people were teenagers because they are being treated at our local hospital. authorities did indicate that those 16 people are suffering either from heat exhaustion of or from heat stroke, which is much more serious and you know, can kill people, but they did feel confident that these of 16 people will be able to recover. and one of the fire department officials did confirm that they were able to confirm that 46 people no i, identity is or raw nationalities or ages are being provided were in fact i found dead at the scene. now they also did suggest that in the last 3 hours or so, they got a call from someone working in the neighborhood to come up to the truck to us
5:27 am
because they were something of not of right going on. and apparently, authorities did find the body of one of the people who had been in that truck outside, and they discovered pretty much everyone else inside. they did suggest that the 16 survivors were just too weak to try to get out of the van. out of the trailer, excuse me, they also were not able to say whether there was any air conditioning in the back of that trailer or whether there were any air vents. they suggested that it was a very, very hot and dangerous situation. this investigation is now just getting underway, wasn't thank you very much. indeed. obviously as things develop, we're gonna have to be coming back to you, but for now thank you very much. indeed. the world is facing an ocean. imagine said, that's the warning from the un secretary general at the start of the united nations ocean conference. and tony goes out, it says more needs to be done to protect marine life. and people living in coastal
