tv and had to be persuaded to ask people to leave peacefully. ah, i'm wrong about this. and this is all 0 live from doha. also coming up, security forces dismantle, shall anchors main protest camp hours after ronald were promising is sworn in as president. president joe biden tested positive for co, with 19. the white house says he's experiencing mild symptoms and a snap election triggered in italy. the president dissolves parliament after the prime minister, resigns. ah, the us how select committees had her former president, donald trump sat and watched the january 6th riots unfolding on capitol hill for 2 and a half hours before taking action to former white house staffers have given evidence
6:02 am
to say to matthews told the panel a tweet sent out by donald trump as his supporters stormed the capital. further, fueled the january 6th riot, former deputy national security adviser for donald trump. matthew passenger said he quit his job and responds to another. trump tweet one that accused the former vice president mike pence of not having the courage to overturn the 2020 presidential election result. i was disturbed and worried to see that the president was attacking vice president pants for doing his constitutional duty. so the tweet looked to me like the opposite of what, what we really needed that moment, which was a di escalation. and that's why, like i had said earlier that it looked like fuel beam port on the fire. so that was the moment that i decided that i was going to resign, that that would be my last day at the white house. i simply didn't want to be
6:03 am
associated with the, with the events that were unfolding on the capital. well, it could be heard that trump had to be convinced by numerous people to publicly called for his supporters to come down, including his press, office and members of his family. miss matthews, miss maggie and he told us she came right back to the press office after meeting with the president about this particular tweet. what did she tell you about what happened in that dining room? when she got back, she told me that a tweet had been sent out, and i told her that i thought the to eat did not go far enough. that thought there needed to be a call to action and he needed to condemn the violence. and we are in a room full of people by people weren't paying attention. and so she looked directly at me and in a husky tone, shared with me that the president did not want to include any sort of mention of peace in that tweet. and that it took some convincing on their part, those who were in the room. and she said that there was a back and forth on going over different phrases to find something that he was
6:04 am
comfortable with. and it wasn't until a vanka, trump suggested the phrase stay peaceful that he finally agreed to include it. ok, let's go to she hopper tansy, who's live for us. a capitol hill. he's been sitting throughout this hearing is she had we heard a lot of in some cases, quite astounding testimony over the last couple of hours is. so what are your main takeaways from all of this? for viewers who are just joining us. i think it, we didn't necessarily have any new information, but what we did have was that granularity the new detail about what was going on in the white us. we have the broad brush strokes and part because of the previous the previous committee hearings. but just the extent to which donald trump was the still, you know, i of the hurricane that was swirling around him. everyone was around him saying look, cody, she usually, but watching he's watching on television,
6:05 am
the capital of being stool. and yet he seems to think it's okay. i mean, well everyone his advisors, his, his family, them was repub, members of the republican leadership and congress fox news hers a trying to get through to him saying, can't you see what's going on? why would he do anything? i'll in fact, they were trying to get him to do stuff on control because you heard trump though they're even trying to get him to, to call the professors, to hastily. and yet there's that narrative constantly going on in his head, which files we shouldn't be surprised about whether we acknowledge the violence. maybe that's giving the major when about my supporters, we don't necessarily want that. it doesn't look good and so on. but the fact is, he's completely disassociated with the reality on the ground of what's happening and everything is completely a matter of what's good for him. now that doesn't necessarily mean he has any involvement in the right or that he was part of the planning, or there's some kind of nefarious plot. but clearly he was there watching it happen
6:06 am
and for whatever reason. and i think for everyone who's been watching truck for so many years, it might not be that much of a mystery. he realized wait a 2nd, this might not be actually so bad for me now. whether he actually was hoping for some sort of insurrection and a coo and all that kind of thing. i think a lot of that has been proven, but clearly what we do see, and perhaps we suspected, and when you already there was trump didn't care. but now we have that real level of detail, and indeed, even the next day, even a couple of hours later when he did find the cool, the progresses off. he was tweeting again about what a great day it had been. even the following day, he refused to say the election was over, and in some ways you can see that that's the beginning. what we see that was sense, which is the trump campaign still to try to overturn the results of the 2020 election. she had stay with me for a moment, one bring in bruce fine. he's a former us associate deputy attorney general and a constitutional lawyer. he's worked on the impeachment of richard nixon and bill clinton and he's joining us live from washington dc via skype. bruce is always good
6:07 am
to have you with us on al jazeera. do you think that the prosecutors in the committee have made their case effectively enough? ah, no. i do think, however, that there is evidence that mister trump was involved in the stormy she is alerted according to all the testimony that his crowd has weapons. and his response was, well, they're not coming after me. and you can infer from that response is that he expected the weapons would be used against other people. now, who are the other people? he thought they would be used against? well though people on capitol hill ones that he some of them that they should go marching. but putting that aside again, this is my experience, especially in watergate. it were because the principals were there testifying under oath john dean h r, hold him and the chief of staff, john ehrlich, met his domestic adviser, john mitchell,
6:08 am
his attorney general. all these people are testifying in person. the same thing happened. i also worked on the ran contra can be where you heard george, sol's cap weinberger, national security council, people, not deputies all testify. they have a grava toss that others don't have. and also with regard to the president trump, himself, former president trump, i'm involved in, in the nixon impeachment the house committee subpoenaed for documents tapes of president nixon. and when he didn't respond, he, they impeached him, voted articles and pete, and for their purposes the ultimately, they did get access to presidential tapes that are the equivalent of presidential conversations. in my judgement, there certainly is no law that suggests that president or the former president trump would have a privilege not to appear before this committee are present, for it appeared before when he was incumbent the house judiciary committee to testify about his pardon of richard nixon. and you will need and when you're going
6:09 am
at a former president, you need greater cloud greater grab a toss. and the greatest omission in my judgement of this committee is the failure to subpoena and demand. the testimony as mr. trump. mr. pants and also kevin mccarthy, members of congress don't have a privilege not to cooperate. there's no speech or debate cause present because it's congress themselves that are demanding the testimony a wise and kevin mccarthy. they're to testify. we heard all sorts of snippets. we need to be on a growth and cross examined him. what did you mean about this? what was the tone of voice of the former president, mr. trump? and the reason why i'm saying this is that knowing the difficulty, the huge political hurdle you've got to overcome, not just in washington, d. c. not just among those who know all the details, but around all the american people who have a consensus. this is a fair and, and overwhelming case. you've got to have that level of testimony at the highest in order to convince everybody. yes,
6:10 am
we now know for certain because many of the witnesses that we have here, there's their secondary, their 2nd tier, 3rd term, their generic hearsay evidence. they weren't directly there. and that's why the committee has to stand up. it's a darrell, they talk about dereliction of duty. well, they have a dare election that they're confronting. they can't resist going forward in set a precedent that they fear could be used against them by the republicans, because they think they got skeleton, their closet. well, you know what? that's too bad. don't have skeletons. you cannot darrow be derelict, simply because you're worried, you're present doing the right thing could come back and haunt you from what you saying if there is because you're to referring to as a dereliction of duty, we have another set of session. i believe that is going to be happening in september. do you think that there is going to be a revisiting of what has happened on this hearing? and those points that you've just been made will be recognized. and perhaps we might see an effort to try to bring in some of the bigger names that were involved
6:11 am
in this. or do you think that this is essentially the tone that we're going to get? this is how it is going to be from now on. well, i think statements of the committee members are ambiguous. there have been statement saying, you know, we haven't, we're still considering a subpoena in trump and, and mr. pence. unfortunately, they haven't been as vigorous and saying they're good subpoena, other members of congress if they don't voluntarily testify. so i don't know whether these are just for show and they're not going to push forward. unfortunately, in washington, a, virtually every decision is made with ulterior political motives. that is, the primary consideration will be how is this going to affect the november elections as opposed to how can we make certain that what we do defend the constitution of the united states for the living and those yet to be born. and the political landscape is very fragile and it changes and how that will play out in
6:12 am
their thinking. i don't know. i think it's clear that they are the least have it in their possible tools to move forward with these subpoenaed at the higher levels. but it's by no, no, no, sure thing, bruce, when i thank you very much and bruce, fine, we appreciated. well, the panel released never before seen footage of president trump when he was finally persuaded to record a message, asking his supporters to leave the capital. one, ready? tell me when, when you're ready sir? is it was behind me. he's gone, he's got me, we're all clear now. i know your pain. i know you're hurt. we had
6:13 am
a election who's saying i know you pain. i know you hurt. we had an election that was stolen from us. it was a landslide election and everyone knows it, especially the other side. ok, let's go back to se hubbard's fancy back at a capital hill. one of the things that keeps occurring to me certainly is somebody who's outside and on, on watching all of this is who are they trying to influence? how much evidence is there from what you are seeing on capitol hill that politicians mines on both sides of the political divide are being changed or influenced in some way about this. but equally, of course, the american people as well how much is this resonating with them? again, bruce was it, you know, being the old and the as is, is immediately he's that look, i mean, these things don't necessarily happen for the good of, for the good of the constitution or for the good of the good of your future of law
6:14 am
and order even though the remote of this estimating is to ensure or to look into legislative solutions, to make sure that this could never happen again. but clearly, this is a very political committee. it's not about holding going into that amount of depth that bruce was suggesting a cross examination of key figures and, and even, even though the committee can refer charges or refer information to the department of justice for proper criminal investigation. they've had a really weird relationship with a d h a half the time the dear jay's been saying this committee is not showing any information with us. and then recently they started doing that declared, it really wasn't about sort of a holding to account of donald trump. we're sending this to the question. what was this about? and clearly in these it'll very highly scripted made for television pops still even still longer. they got resist kind of segments. this is about talking to the american people about donald trump's fitness told office in the future. is that
6:15 am
having a big effect? it doesn't seem to be the poll filter. just donald trump is the front rather to be the republican party against joe biden, the next presidential election. and when you see the match drops, even after all these here is not this one yet. the, the trump and biting pretty much neck and neck. larry and the level of the level era in any and any kind of polling. and in fact, when you look at the poses to what people are actually concerned about if the economy it's inflation. it's joe biden to see a lack of lack of presidential activity. frankly, the main demographic are interested in, and these hearings is the white college educated constituency who used to actually the mainly republican, but now have switched to the, the democrats for everyone else. the majority of it is, it is about the economy they owned as concerned about this. this just seems to be some have something according to the pose that if out there and yes, suppose it may be wondering, but the economy will be the major. the major issue and we've seen the ratings, the ratings fall precipitously from the 1st,
6:16 am
the 1st committee hearing where they got about $2020000000.00 in the 1st week. that was also the prime time thing. then the committees went into the, into the, into the daytime hearings. they switched about 10 to 11000000 that they went to about 13000000 for comparison. but like the news on the networks gets combined viewership of about 20000000. but real political events like the presidential debates, they get 75000000 or something like that. and of course we have an electorate of about 270000000. so, you know, who is this, who's actually talking to that's, that's unclear. and i think there is a suspicion about that committee is preaching to the converted and it's a little faster perhaps getting older. she had thank you very much. indeed. she got the chance you talking to us from capitol hill still ahead and i'll just either use satellite monitoring services as far as have burned as much london europe this year . as in all of 2021. ah,

of this year. that have also been fires and france, portugal, greece, italy, slovenia, and albania. but more than a 3rd of the devastations been in spain, al jazeera zane bastrop is in one of the worst areas in spain's avila province. according to at least one european environmental organisation, these are the worst wildfires this continent has seen in a century spain easily the worst effected country and where we are now. and sir bred us in a villa province this morning took the unfortunate mantle of being the worst effected part of the country so far this wildfire season. and you can see why when you come into this area, we've driven through valleys and hills all completely charged by the wildfires that have been had that has been ongoing for days and that are still going forward. now the police are much more strict in this mountainous area. it is easy to get lost in the mountains and caught up in the ongoing fires. so there are roadblocks everywhere and they won't let us near any of the fires. but you can hear water bombing helicopters go overhead, you can see them heading and directions of the fires and there is
