1:03 pm
the spalding station for the pro russian leaders here. it east and ukraine. this day was meant to be a historic event with i'm voting in favor of joining the russian federation. i'm giving my vote for a happy bright future for us as part of the russian federation for a happy and bright future for our children, our grandchildren, our descendants, i'll show you to a, the restaurant meas, a large chunk of ukraine will become russia, at least in the captain's ice gun usually she would near her of course, to day,
1:04 pm
amid the special military operation and referendums in the dumbass saving people in all territories where the referendum is held is at top of the mind. and in the center of the attention for our entire society and our country. this is natural because it's connected with traumatic events in preparation for those dramatic events. rossi sending an additional $300000.00 reservists. here from klein guys holding field. wonderful. do you believe in the victory? of course it can be any other way. everything will be fine. everything is okay. how's the mood we are in the mood for fighting with whatnot. everyone is happy. this mother argues with our russian official enough, took a city near the border with georgia. i will speak out, i am right, we are the occupiers. ukraine has not been part of the u. s. s r for a long time. but the russian government remains determined that this,
1:05 pm
his defense minister said again, show we're visiting a training camp for recently mobilized troops. and it's these men that president putin is now relying on to win his war. we have 3 reporters covering various asked, and each these men that president putin, is now relying on to win his war. we have 3 reporters covering various aspects of the story. so them casio, lou is standing by an a stand bold child. stratford isn't keith a, but 1st let's go to mohammed fall and moscow and mom had to the votes had been tallied. so what happens now? yes, tom, the russia is bracing for what's next, which is basically the, the procedures, the legal procedures to officially annexed those 4 regions. the latest we have is
1:06 pm
not the heads of the pro russian leaders of the don't yet lagonzalez self declare republics have already sent messages to president put in and they are even coming here in person to most co to meet him. no indication of the timing of those meetings and also the the counterparts in parisha and have fun, unexpected to follow suit after those meetings or during those meetings that something will be find a kind of treat you will be assigned between a threat and put in and the 4 men, after which it will be studied by the constitutional court and then voted in russian parliament. and thus, when president putin will feel this procedure by declaring officially declaring the annexation of those 4 regions from ukraine into the russian federation. there seems to be also some preparation for huge celebrations that are going to take place here
1:07 pm
in near the company in that square. so russia is bracing for what it costs. he does a historical moment, a time for the correction of history. they consider that these parts, these regions in, from a foreign ukraine, has always been historically, of part of russia. and of those communities belong to russia, has the half and minds they speak the same language and they want to be a part of russia. okay, mohammed fall. thank you so much for that update. let's get the latest now from charles stratford, who seems we have just lost the connection with charles susan cave. we will go now though to the next story with thousands of people have fled russia since i've led me potent issued
1:08 pm
mobilization order last week, we will have more on the story now. mobile, but for them, i mean there is no legality to this referendum because it's pure propaganda. it will have no consequences in international law. this is ukraine's territory and it will remain ukraine territory with secondly, you cannot conduct a referring them illegally when there is a war this occupied territory. and when people go door to door with weapons forcing people to vote, this vote doesn't change anything. when we understand that russia is on the path of escalation and we will liberate to allow territory prisons. lensky says that rush in action and holding this vote will completely block any piece negotiation process . we've got sal stratford back with us now he is in caves, child how have ukrainian or authorities responders
1:09 pm
but you can hear from that sound bites the message from ukraine. keep capital capital the spokesperson, they're sorry, the yeah, presidential adviser there. ringback expressing defiance and complete rejection of what is being described, j and amongst ukraine's western back as, as a sham, something that has absolutely no grounding or legitimacy in international law. some of the other things that mr. polio alluded to in our meeting with him yesterday. he said that this referenda basically kills all immediate prospects for any kind of resumption of a negotiations towards any kind of negotiated piece. he said that the crane in government, ukrainian military went out more determined than ever to take back control of the occupied territories. russian occupy charities, he said that they changed nothing in terms of the military goals. he also said that the ukrainians that found out to have collaborated certainly in the organization.
1:10 pm
so he said of this referendum could face trees and charges on up to 5 years in jail . and he appealed, yet again full more weston weapons. also interestingly, we've heard from the ukranian foreign minister, demeter caliber. he is urging for tough sanctions additional sanctions from the european union. he saying that, you know, it's a soft response from the european union basically would give greater motivation in his words for russia to escalate militarily and to potentially annex more territory. we understand that the u. s. is planning to send an additional $1100000000.00 worth of weaponry to the ukrainians hasn't been confirmed, but it is expected. that's in addition to what is understood to be already around $9000000000.00 of committed a military aid from the u. s. the u. k has already announced additional sanctions
1:11 pm
on people. it says we're organizing that referendum. russians organizing the referendum in some of these areas which are occupied. and as we heard the presidential advisor, that speaking about that main reason why this is actually seen as being such a false by the guidance is that the russians do not control all these areas. for examples, apparitions, ya, it doesn't even control the regional capital zappa regime city. just before we wrap up here in terms of what's been happening militarily over night, in and around the front lines, we're hearing reports of heavy fighting around the city of li man. now that's a is to the southern section of where we've seen a huge pushed by ukranian forces in recent weeks is counter offensive south of car cave li man of huge and poems because it is a massive railway hub. president zalinski said in the last couple days and this was
1:12 pm
echoed yesterday by his advisors saying that there were there military's priority at the moment is the don't next region, the ukrainians only control around full cheapest st of don't ask. and the reason why it's a priority for the ukrainian so zalinski says is because it is a priority for russia. so no in no way. is there any sign of any let up in the fighting on the country? it looks like fighting could well escalate in the coming days. okay, thank you so much. that's charles stratford for us live in cave with thousands of people have fled russia since vladimir putin issued a mobilization order last week. the governor of took, he is southern province of antalya, says an increasing number of russians arriving aren't returning home, was send him costello is live in istanbul for us. and what's the latest send him? well, russian tourists coming to turkey is other new story. russians prefer
1:13 pm
a turkey, especially the southern resorts that you have on tanya every summer, but during depend that make the number of sisters had declined and compared to last year, the number of to tourists arriving on tanya has increased, especially in the last 6 month, which means after the war in ukraine started, the numbers have peak and as for on target, governor statement yesterday evening, many of those people are preferring not to leave on tanya. or let me say to keep back to russia when, when i speak to the officials, they tell me that there are 162900008 russian passengers arriving to a port as there are darted flights from some russian cities to untie. yeah. and the figure has been this way for a while. most of the flights is stumble, an anchor are full of booked from russia. but this time, the people,
1:14 pm
the russian people, are preferring to extend their stay. so this is interesting case and i spoke to some real estate agencies, the non tonya, they are telling me that more and more people are coming or calling them to ask for is 6 months or one year long term rentals in ensenada. and tony has, has become a very important attraction, attractive destination for russians ukrainians. iranian cuts, oxen curves people, and around more than 50000 russians have gained residential, residential permits in the last couple of years. but when you come to it stumble again, we are hearing from the turkish airline companies that they flights are still fully booked. they return slides are booked like 990 percent, but we are hearing more and more stories these days that russians was coming to
1:15 pm
turkey, if preferred to stay for longer time to see what's going to happen in their country . as the partial mobilization decision has been put in place since last week, this is the situation in tonya. and now the real estate companies are saying that they are having trouble to accommodate them because the supply is not meeting the demand. the city's population has already hits more than 3000000. of course, the local retailers, restaurants, they're all happy bought this a, but the prices of the real estate has nearly tripled according to the local, the non target him cost in its temple. thank you very much for that update. european commission. chief ursula on the line says leaks and 2 major pipelines between russia and europe were caused by sabotaged north stream. one normally ships guest directly from russia to germany,
1:16 pm
but deliveries were suspended by russia early of this month because of a stand off over the sanctions. but denmark and sweden 1st reported the leaks near the island of bourne home. shipping. near the lines has been restricted. with steadfast, joins us live now from leudemann and germany. the point we are north stream deliveries, reach land. so do we have any more answers on what actually happens? well, if you look at the situation here in the look, may not, not stream to, it really symbolizes the the fact that not frames as completely that at least for the time being because these repairs of these huge leaks will take a long time. at least a year, that's what experts at saying on the investigation which is ongoing, we still have a lot of questions and hardly any answers. in the meantime, finger pointing is a very active. at the moment the russians are saying, the united states has her most to benefit from the fact that no trim is not
1:17 pm
operating because the prices have gone up. the europeans are blaming russia, but nobody has been able to give any evidence to these claims. meanwhile, the biggest shockwave that has gone through europe since these leaks were discovered is the fact that it shows how vulnerable the energy system in europe is a yoseph barrel. the foreign policy chief of the european union has said that there should be a serious strengthening of the security system. also, ursula on the lane has warned that if any active pipes would be attacked, that would be a really strong answer to that. and what they are pointing at is there no region pipelines after the russian pipelines have now sort of become an active, there's not much russian gas coming this direction. most of europe is now relying on norway. it's a 30 percent of the gas from norway is going to europe. so there's
1:18 pm
a lot of concern about these pipelines. could this be a warning? what happened with north frame that it could happen to the new region pipes as well? so there's that concern, and at the other hand, of course we're dealing with quite an ecological disaster as well. there's a lot of methane going up into the atmosphere because of this gas leak. okay, thank you very much for that update. that is to boston for us in germany. well, lead spring in andre as gold's how he is an energy expert and professor of public policy at the university of foot. he joins us from bill and thank you so much for being on the news. our now many calling the sabotage. but before we get to who might have done this, can you explain the damage that's been done and how it differs from some of the other issues we've seen with the pipeline in the past? well, thanks for having me on the show. look, i mean, what we do know is there's, there's massive leaks at 3 points of the potential them, which are apart a couple of kilometers. so that's no incident or anything. we also know is that or
1:19 pm
is massive leakage, which means the pipelines are running empty. they have not been operational for quite some time and, and, and that means in the end they will at some point run the risk of, of also controlling because of water coming into the pipeline system. in terms of energy security. there's not a great deal of impact simply because those pipelines have not been operational for the last couple of days and weeks and what we've seen on the market since they were pretty unimpressed gas prices move sideways. we know this an investigation going on, but who would potentially have the most to gain by sabotaging this pipeline? well, the jury is out and send to progressively honest. i will not, you know, become part of the speculation here. various parties might have an interest in, in doing that, but i think that we should give the danish and the swedish authorities the time to
1:20 pm
investigate what was going on and they will find the answer. at some point. i think the bigger question really is, what is it that follows from the leaks and the act of sabotage, which apparently happened and, and here, i guess this goes to the heart of european energy security concerns. so we should look forward at the moment. okay, well the infrastructure is clearly vulnerable. what more needs to be done to, to make sure there are potential attacks like this in the future? well, i would maybe question whether the infrastructure such as loanable. i mean, it takes quite something to attack and under water pipeline. these are not easy, easy targets. there are 50 meters and, and, and more down on the c beds, unit infrastructure for unit equipment, for if you need money for it, need expertise for it. it can't be done that easily. so there's, there's a couple of organizations only that can actually do this. which also means you can
1:21 pm
hedge that means you bring in probably a lot more intelligence than military to anticipate anything that might happen. and that might need to a much more secure system. might you also we have a couple of, of pipelines that are on shore actually quite a few. and in the past they have not been necessarily the target of acts of sabotage. so yes, i hear everyone saying there's more mobility and exposure, but i think we can hedge that. ok, thank you very much for your time. that is andreas, a gold star for us from berlin. thank you. was plenty more he had on this use our including will tell you what effect unprecedented flags and pakistan have head on children's education. and since province and and sport were for fivestar display from brazil as they fire a world cup warning to their rivals. ah
1:22 pm
will hearken. ian has knocked out power across cuba. the storm made landfall as a category 3 hurricane on the island on tuesday morning with winds up to 205 kilometers per hour. about 40000 people have been forced to flee their hives. well, joining us now as al jazeera meteorologist, evident foxon isn't what more can you tell us about the storm? well, the storm did. we can, of course, is it made its way across cuba, but it's now regenerating. and it is, as she said, there a category for storm and it will continue to week. and if you have a look at the satellite picture, you can just make out the either storm that is now back just to the, the left hand side of havana. there so that little dark spot, that's the new i to the storm. see it making its way further, north was just running up towards south florida in those very warm waters and it
1:23 pm
will gather strength even more. so as we go on through the coming hours at the moment, can be forced on 220 kilometers per hour. making its way further, north east was at around 17 comes pratt slowed down slightly. but as we were saying yes to take tom you remember we're expecting it to stagger to something of a crawl as it makes its way across. sir, florida. that's not quite the case. now, but it's still gonna have a massive impact of a size of this thing. it's going to affect all parts of florida as we go on through the next couple of days or so. moving slightly, she was a less slowly. we were talking sort of like walking pe sir, yesterday. now it's made the switches to the south of tampa, pushing those sir. very wall mortars up across that western side of the florida, making its way further northwards and east was it'll run up towards the northeast. if you think in terms of katrina, that was a cat 3 when it made landfall all those years ago, back into where louisiana. this is going to be perhaps so something similar in terms of the strength. and you've got those endless across setter western side or
1:24 pm
friday, which will see that where to weather coming through. and that will grassy make his way further north was clearing through early in the weekend. tom, thank you very much for that update. eaverson will 2 and a half 1000000 people in the us state of florida have been ordered to evacuate their homes ahead of hurricane in making landfall. my can of reports go away in that's a message from tampa bay area. residents have not taken a direct hit from american in a 100 years. this one does feel a little bit different. we felt that way in the past before, so it just started to be safe than sorry, of time running on to residents rushed to fill sandbags. ford up businesses on homes and stock up on supplies. many shelves are empty. as many as 2 and a half 1000000 people are under evacuation orders. they say mandatory evacuation. it sounds to go as a massive lightning pact, harry couldn't make its approach. u. s. president joe biden warned residence not to
1:25 pm
be complacent. your safety is more important than anything. i know our hearts are with every one who will feel the effects of the storm and will be with you every step of the way. we're not going away. the message from state authorities is more direct. if the he, the evacuation order, i have a 100 percent guarantee that they will not die from storm search. if they had evacuation or i have a 100 percent guarantee that they will not have to be rescued off a rou top. if the he, the evacuation or nasa official scramble to move the our team as one rocket of its launch pad and back into the vehicle assembly building at the kennedy space center . it took about 11 hours to get the rocket back into the building. a hurry can hunter aircraft known as miss piggy was sent into the eye of the storm over the caribbean. the information gathered by the height to get on board indicates that the storm. busy will intensify even further when it moves over the warm waters of
1:26 pm
the gulf of mexico. it also indicates that storm surges could see the water level rise as much as 10 feet long, large areas of the florida coast and the impacts are going to be far, far broader than just where the eye of the storm happens to make landfall. in some areas there will be catastrophic flooding and life threatening storm surge. the mounting fear that no number of sandbags will be enough. mike, hanna jazeera, as we mentioned hurricane in, is expected to inundate florida's with coast with dangerous storm surge from all on that. here's how we the percentage. if harrington will, southwest florida is going to be in the danger zone here as seen, storm surge in some cases that we have never experienced before. so what exactly is that? that's when these hurricane force winds literally pick up the ocean and shove it
1:27 pm
into the shoreline. now the forecast is anywhere from tampa to naples, to see a storm surge or about 3 to 4 meters high. so what does that mean? look at this. it would bury the 1st floor of a home. typically the floor is about 10 feet or 3 meters high. so again, at 3.5 meters, that means the entire 1st floor of this home would be under water. and let's remember this is coastal low line areas that in some cases are heavily populated. for example in tampa. but looking like the brunt of this storm will be south of tampa. but again, that danger zone ranging anywhere from tampa to naples, full palestinians have been killed during this riley ride on a house in the jenin refugee camp. the occupied west bank of a 40 others, a wounded more than 30 israeli military vehicles. and bold doses was seen in the area. local people say one man who was killed was the brother of rob housing. he's
1:28 pm
accused of carrying out a mess, shooting and television in april. john hendrick joins us live from ramallah. now john, what more can you tell us about this rise? what is raid last 8 hours it began in the early morning hours is really forces fired a small missile into the home of relatives. of rod has him is father and brother were wanted by police for questioning. we know, as you say, 4 people now are dead. some remain in critical condition and dozens are injured. and after that project i was fired, fired into the building. it went up in flames. that's called a pressure cooker tactic. it's designed to get people out of the building. and after that there was an armed conflict. on the st bystander video appears to show one palestinian gunmen being shot and killed right in front of a building there. in that confrontation with israeli forces after a while they moved to the outskirts of this refugee camp engineer,
1:29 pm
but back confrontation continued to go on. and we've seen a lot of video of fire going back and forth in that instance. and police and authorities rather have left that scene now for the congregation appears now to be over. okay, john hendrick, thank you very much for that update. the still ahead on l g 0. ah, not backing down. protest is, defy a security crack down in iran where anger is spreading over the death of a young woman in police custody. and counting down to the new in b a season with the l. i like as far has ah

hello, the weather's looking little messy across much of here, but by lots of cloud showing up her proper feel of water coming through. for the most part. we have got plenty of weather systems on our chart there. so a fair amounts of rain thought practised abbas fair amount of wind as well lay gate and see that to unsettle where the swirling away some very heavy rain coming into central parts of europe. switzerland could see about a month with a rifle in the next 24 hours or so. some went to weather, to sliding down towards the balkans spattering a shower say which was at east inside of you. it was still some rather heavy showers. longest bells of bright, affecting a good part of southern scandinavia, some of that were to whether also pushing into that east, the side of scotland. pushing proceed, snares of england, sinking further southwards temperature. starting to recover a little bit as we go on in to thursday, but by no means war cuz splashes shower. it costs much of central year, and the shower can be a little more wide spread across that it's rated as well. spain and portugal 20 decidedly unsettled o i, which was a se still

western allies say the vote is a sham or can. ian has knocked out power across cuba in made landfall as a category 3 hurricane on the island on tuesday morning. with winds of up to 205 kilometers per hour. about 40000 people were forced to flee their homes. for palestinians have been killed during him is to riley right on a house in the janine refugee camp. the occupied whist back of a 40 others, a wounded modems, 30 israeli military vehicles, and bulldozers was seen in the area with protests have turned violence and dozens of iranian cities as people continue demonstrating over the death of a woman in police custody. a ride sce group says at least 75 people were killed in the unrest. critics accused police of firing directly at protesters among those arrested is fuzzy, ashima, the daughter of former president. how she me, rough son,
1:34 pm
johnny? will it sco live to wrestle soda? who is in the iranian capital to ron for us. how significant is the rest of the daughter of the former president? well, should arrest is not significant in terms of its impact over the reigning politics here. however, for the protest that it's important, having her support and having the ad the did, the hard drops and johnny family overall is quite important for them. so what makes really important is her father, her father hush mcgriff's anjanette that hush reps on. johnny was one of the founding fathers of the islamic republic. and he was one of the most influential figures in the more than history or urine, he was elected twice as the president of the country. and he has believed any a crucial role, particularly after the war between iraq and iran. and so in that sense, he was quite important in, in, in, in this,
1:35 pm
in this country. but in the last years of his life, he has been a very much critical toward the establishment here in 2009 and in 2012 as well. so and the what is making now the rest of her important because she also has aligned with the position of her father. and she also had been quite critical against the did it that, that establishment here is not 1st time that she has been arrested in 2009 and in 1012 as well. she was arrested and put in jail for, for 6 months. so as i said, having her support is quite important would protest is however, we shall know that she's not a leading figures among the protest. her so security forces officials are here accusing her off for a walk in the protest. and that's the reason they say they have a restaurant. okay, well, how hes around reacted to those. it says a supporting these protests well through the last night we have seen that have been several process across many cities in iran. but what we also can see that the did
1:36 pm
they did that they bill did the protest or losing the momentum that the participation is, is declining. but we do not know whether this is because of that, the restrictions on the internet that's preventing them from organizing or whether it is about this security forces. having a heavy presence in the students at in the streets. and also taking heavy handed measures against a protest. so for the officials are seeing that at least $4.00 to $1.00 people were killed, including some members of the security forces as well. however, there are some other and use that said that the real numbers are quite high years than these numbers that are provided by the security forces. but at this moment, it's almost impossible really to, to, to, to confirm that. and also the semi said it needs agency, a test name says that security forces, how, how identified, more than 1200 people who would lead in this protest, and many of them have been arrested. meanwhile, through the last, we have seen that there been several,
1:37 pm
a pro government protests as well taking place in the company, particularly the ones in to run. and in michelle we're quite big, but so far the hasn't been the haven't been any clashes between the ad that the anti government and the pro government protesters yet. okay. bristles set out for us in to round. thank you. well, let's get reaction now from iraq to the attacks on kurdish targets from iran. ellie hush him is live in baghdad for us and what's their response been there? oh, what sancho? the moment there is no official statement from the rocky government with respect to these attacks. it's been like 5 days now since the shelling i started hearing and saying that it's related to curtis sher separate this group, trying to infiltrate their borders or smuggle arms in to enter the rod of at to day was a bit significant with that number of casualties being reported by could to show officials
1:38 pm
of the moment, there are several people injured under at least 2 killed, as we understood from the news reports 3 low following. so this is for now the situation, the, the, the, the challenges and in different areas as we, as i said, 5 days off shillings to day. there were different areas that shelled and according to the iranians. these are positions or bases doctor or for the comalla group, which is a kurdish separate this group and, and although old, so alls up. 6 a militant group that sir, fighting from the iraqi ah borders. so at least for now this is what we have. there are. busy expectations that the number of casualties might trays, as we heard from the cornish officials and to iraq's parliament is meeting for the 1st time since the recent series of protest today isn't it?
1:39 pm
well, yes. and it seems that today is the beginning of the new escalation and the rocky political as seen as we can see. these people behind me are pro, looked at a sandra supporters who are today at protesting in the theater square. and this protest is related to the bodily mentoring session that's expect that to vote the parliament is expected to vote on the resignation of the parliament speaker mohammed. hi lucy mohammed. how was he was a most of a sudden ally by it seems, is trying to inch himself away from bis alliance, in order to just to join the arrival alliance. i am. this is an. busy prompting these a girl and looked at her father protested to come to the streets mainly he, i and diarrhea spread the numbers balance. it's quite big. but over the, the, the coming i was maybe this number would get bigger. there were some,
1:40 pm
so some attempts by the protests as to throw stones on the security forces in order to across to the what they will assume here as al jamalia a bridge. however, the security forces prevented them from, from doing that. of course now we, this is the end of september by and into 3 days. the 1st of october is, is the day when there are going to be a wide spread throughout asks and iraq to comb rate the anniversary of the october 202-2019. that the protests and this, this same square to 3 a square is expected to be full of people. ok, thank you so much for that. updates ali hush him in baghdad for us. india's government has banned a muslim organization called the popular front of india for 5 years. the government accuses the group of being involved, an anti national anti terrorism related activities. several members have been
1:41 pm
arrested or detained, and rides across the country. it also says the group has a secret agenda to radicalized parts of society. poverty missile has more from new delhi. this marks the end of an ongoing cracked on, on the organisation. the popular front of india or p fi has been banned for 5 years . the government has declared all its activities illegal, which basically means that p f. i can neither raise funds. i cannot carry out any event. so no protests at all. it also cannot raise funds. it also cannot recruit people. the income tax department has also canceled its registration that the group has many associates and affiliates. the government has also banned it off those. and now this comes a day off the coordinated nationwide rates across the country. more than 200 people have been either arrested or detained in these and this has been going on for some

time. in fact, last week of the organization's chairman was also arrested. now the accusations are very serious. the government hasn't exactly given us too many details, but what, what it has said is that the organization has been accused of funding training and carrying out so called terrorist activities. it's accused the organization of radicalized people and having links with isolate the trial of guineas, former president and 10 others is getting underway in the capital conqueror. i've been all accused of responsibility in america that took place 13 years ago on this day. let's take a closer look at what happens that day and what followed. well, thousands of anti government demonstrators gathered as a stadium in the conqueror, i protesting against mythos mustafah cameras, intentions to run as president. the following year. he came to power through a military coup, 9 months earlier, with security forces started shooting,

killing at least 157 people, and injuring 1200 more. dozens of women were beaten, and gang rights were shortly after the crackdown commerce survived an assassination attempt by one of his former aides. he was brought to morocco for medical treatment and ousted from power kamara, then move to became a foster. he returned to guinea over the weekends. well, let's go live to an interest who is incorrect for us. now the trials become this morning. what is sit down to happen today? what basically you can see in the background. people look gathered in the numbers. these include victims. the diplomats are also invited activists will also invite you to be part of a grunt ceremony organized by the military government, which tries to make as much political capital out of this right now we waiting for
1:44 pm
the military leader to be here to stop the ceremony before the court proceedings topic. now, yesterday the position was held in this particular court. when for my military rule, i almost had that just come out or was brought in. and then some charges were red being bad before out for him. and then he was whisked away for a detention now talking about victims of the disaster. still a lot of anger, 13 years after a lot of people are angry, but nothing has been done in 13 years. so i'm grateful that this process has content after 13 years and that just what many critics of this book, i think the government is trying to capitalize on their say that they will wait to see the end of the process yet before commenting on whether or not this is a political motivated trial, or in fact, it's a move for justice for victims of this months ago,

13 years ago with an interest for us and cannot cry. thank you. and pakistan unprecedented floods have destroyed 17000 schools in the southeast. and since the province was also, there were already strange, but now children's education is suffering even more of the bank reports. schools on now shelters. people had little choice of where to go. these buildings were large and sturdy, unlike most people's homes in this impoverished part of buckets dawn, some school grounds were flooded. the name of this school is barely visible. tense have been put up to allow some form of education to continue with 17000 schools in this province destroyed a permanent solution is needed by, by dish fella worried about the winter coming in next month. we will not be able to eat in the 10s in hot weather conditions,
1:46 pm
but for now that we can continue with our education. we have the large number of students here really quick government to build school so we can continue our education. like other children. some of the last, all she had in the flood, at least 2000000 students have been effective in the province alone. when flood hit our village, we weren't able to pick up anything from home. we were just able to save our lives . it's been almost one month and i'm able to go back to school now. go into a temporary tent school, but i missed the one in my village. and my schoolmates, i'm worried how i'll be able to continue my education. this harsh environment more is needed and pakistan has appealed for international help. she said it was kinda risky, but need to provide the school day until now we would be able to stablish 15 learning centers. so we need to stablish 15 of them,
1:47 pm
at least 15 or more. every village is a cut off, and people are waiting for the waters to receipt. they may have taken away lives and livelihoods. these children are praying, they don't wash away the dreams of gaining and education. i said bake. i'll deserve for joining me now. as mary jo goes in, she is the executive director of educated child, a branch of the education above all foundation. thank you so much for coming in today that we've just heard of that story. that 2000000 students have been away from education and justice and province alone. but how many across the whole of pakistan do we think have been affected by these floods and, and getting an education right now. when, of course, we don't know the exact numbers, because in fact, both send and baluchistan province is a really badly hit. but a lot of the other provinces are as well. what we do know is that this is an extremely difficult situation for the children. not only are they out of education,
1:48 pm
but they don't actually have their routine that they can go to and be with them every day. so what we really need to do is to try and figure out how to reestablish education as soon as possible in perhaps less than ideal situation. what, what is being done to help them at the moment? well, for example, we've been working in pakistan now for about 10 years with a range of different partners. and one of our part does is very actively putting up temporary learning center so that in fact children can come back. not only learn but get that stability, that education provides them in a really horrendous situation where there is very little stability. is this disproportionately affecting poorer students that might not have been getting much of an education beforehand anyway? well, i think what we do know is that in pakistan there at least 22000000 out of school children before the floods. we know that number has gone up. certainly the people

in who are the poorest and the with the fewest resources, are the less least able to respond. they're often in poor communities are often communities in a very ill served with things like water transport, food, those kinds of things. furthermore, we know they've lost millions of livestock, which is part of the livelihoods. of course, the winter is approaching pretty quickly. how is that going to affect things? because obviously a lot of them are being educated moment, intense, or just outside will. of course that's just going to add to the problems. and i think what we really have to do is to look at this from, as well, from a positive point of view, which is, how can we rebuild in ways that help not only get the immediate problem solved, but put together systems and education opportunities that are much more resilient because we know with climate change that this may not be the last time that this happens. you know, what are the flow on to fix from this in the, in the years
1:50 pm
a here to the students is going to be able to, to catch up on the last education. this is a great question and thank you for it. i think there are enormous flow on effects. we've seen them across the world. we seen them in other wars and other situations like this. what we do know is that we can actually catch up. we can provide catch up education and kids can get if we just are more flexible and provide more opportunities. ok. and doesn't feel like there's been enough international attention or help from, from outside pakistan. what more do you need to actually help the millions and millions of children that have been affected? i honestly don't think there has been enough help and i think that's probably because there are so many other things going on right now across the globe. that it equally as challenging so in, in effect these children are perhaps not getting the kind of attention they should get. nor is the funding coming in the way it might. thank you so much. that's mary
