5:18 am
d. c. for decades, howard schultz was held as an example of benign us capitalism. his company was supposed to offer ownership equity in a strong benefits package. and now it says that offers a minimum wage of over $17.00 an hour among the highest in the country. right. the committee chair though, sees another picture over the past 18 months. star box has waged the most aggressive and illegal union busting clear pain. in the modern history of our country, that union busting campaign has been led by howard schultz. the starbucks has become the focus of intense criticism by labor groups, or legibly trying to crush attempts by individual stores to unionize. every day we wake up thinking about how we can put our people 1st, put them in a position to win, and do everything we can to demonstrate the conscience,
5:19 am
the heart, and the values of starbucks coffee company. and there was support from a number of committee members don't derive one of the great american sex success stories. i don't want to be part of any which 100 vilified any american business, but the committee also heard from some of the more than 80 people who say they've been fired from starbucks for union activity. thank you, chairman centers among them. jason sexton, a form, a union organizer at starbucks in georgia who testified he was fired and a phone call to us before the beginning of his shift for what was described as disruptive behavior before the hearing. he told me that far from being disruptive, his union work was intended to better the futures of his co workers. and his 2 year old daughter, eva. because otherwise, she's going to have to continue to seeing mom and dad struggling and unhappy and stressed the quote unquote american dream is to hustle culture at this point. and i

don't want my daughter had to deal with that. and a number for publicans on the committee shop for the attacks, the national labor relations board, claiming it displayed a strongly anti corporate bias. voting in a bit to gone a union support for the bite and administration or in l. r. b employees, weaponized in the agency against the american employers. and while that debate rages via the reality is that doesn't like jason, the sexton and his family are paying the price of what they regard as corporate greed. my kind of, i'll just era washington verse for both. well let's get more on this now. we're joined by adolfo franco. he's a republican strategist and lawyer, and he's joining us live from washington dc on skype. thank you very much for your time. when ologist era, what do you make bernie sanders comments that starbucks has wage the most? he called at the most aggressive and legal union boston campaign in the modern
5:21 am
history of our country. it's a very strong statement, isn't it? yes, i actually know mr. sanders, i worked with him 22 years ago and travel in fact to the middle east with him. so this is vintage bernie sanders. it's absolutely nonsense. so is this an agenda by mr. sanders and about socialists? they like to see the entire american workforce unionized worse than the employees at a progressive company. like as you reported, like starbucks, he's also an agenda to unionize or certainly make employees. all kinds of americans involved in direct selling a door to door, that type of business, realtors and others. the fact of the matter is this testimony began correctly with mister schultz saying, the c e o. the company has done nothing illegal to nothing wrong. it's ok to say that people like the interview, the interview, the employee, have grievances,
5:22 am
but those have just allegations. who knows? that employee was fired because of union, suppose union organizing activities or just he's a bad employee is 80 guest 80 employees out of thousands. starbucks employees, but it's not just send it to sanders. he's been saying this in recent months. multiple federal judges have ruled that starbucks illegally. 5 was in both buffalo, new york and memphis, tennessee, a national labor relations board, judge sizes starbucks. and what he said egregious and widespread misconduct and his ruling consolidate and $35.00 unfair labor practice complaint against the company. well, the fact of the matter is there could be a complaint here and there in a very, very large company. it's an extraordinarily progressive company. there's no question about it. same allegations were made against ober, and left and other big economies a little bit different than employees. the fact of the matter is there are 2 things to take in mind. as you correctly reported here,
5:23 am
this administration is weapon ising at the agencies and there are judges that are, have union bias as well as you have multiple rulings throughout the united states. there could be an incident here and there, but i can tell you there is no evidence and there is no evidence presented to date to suggest there's a concerted effort by starbucks did not unionize it's workforce. and there is something more important. of course, anyone can unionize united states, but it is a really dangerous situation when you have a company that it's often providing start up opportunities for people that's not going to be their career. to unionize. this company, if that were to happen, would be a catastrophic impact on our economy. fewer people would be employed and the prices would be higher. however, to your point, there is absolutely no systemic evidence of any union ization by this company. quite the opposite has been the poster child progressive, isn't mr. frank?
5:24 am
you say that unionizing, the company would lead to higher prices? starbucks said that in january that a generated record revenues. so why would it lead to higher prices for consumers? why kind of starbucks? why would it have to put the price of that? why kind of take a smaller kind of the profit? well, i mean there's that, it's it, starbucks had a very down cycle before. ultimately, unionizing. what mean labor costs would increase? there's no question about it. someone has to pay for that either higher prices or fewer employees. now again, there is a right to unionize. i'm not suggesting there's not that right. there's no evidence of starbucks is impeding this. however, in terms of the economy, the type of positions at starbucks or i started out at a non union job and an ice cream parlor. if i would have been unionized, i don't think i would have had the opportunity for the job or certainly the small entrepreneurs and people who actually depend on these businesses would be able to
5:25 am
survive. this has brought a part of a broader agenda beyond starbucks by the biden administration, mr. sanders, to really unionize the country and i will try to they were in the wash and, and mr. sanders or isn't it just a climate of growing support for unions in america? one and 10 with is in the us is a member of a union. and a gallup poll, conducted last summer, said that 71 percent of americans approve of labor unions. what people approve i approve of labor union. that doesn't mean i want the entire country unionized. the fact of the matter is labor unions had a far more larger role in our, in our country, in our society of 40 or 50 years ago. but there is a political motivation. once you have unionized workers, they pay dues, and the union bosses decide who to pay support in terms of the political activities . and that's been traditionally the democratic party. that's why joe biden says he's the most you pro union president, ever. not because he has
5:26 am
a benevolent interest in workers. it's because it's a cash cow for the democratic party and historically has been. so that has been the motivation here. a combination of political ideology on the left and political benefit that the democratic party would derive from unionization. again, there is a right to do this, but there is no evidence that this company in any shape or form has this systemically a forged policy to prevent unit is ation. that is republican strategist and lawyer, adult life franco joining his life in washington. d. c. thank you for your time. i thank you, elizabeth. now the german president has welcome to can charles to his country with a speech focusing on the climate challenge. the king is on his 1st state visit his visions, monarch king charles wasn't active campaign on environmental issues. one add to the throne. dominic cane has moved from the lyn with an honor god. germany welcomed
