trump called the new york district attorney, a criminal and said the judge and his family. what trumpeters? they attacked me with an onslaught of fraudulent investigations, russia, russia, russia, ukraine, ukraine, ukraine, impeachment hoax, number one, impeachment hoax number to the illegal and unconstitutional rate on mara lago right here. but now they have really stepped up their efforts by indicting the 45th president of the united states who received 075000000 votes, which is more than any sitting president in the history of our cochran itsyana from missouri. is gabriel alexander, who followed events in new york,
4:09 pm
their images that will go down and us history. donald trump, arriving at a court in manhattan. gone, was the traditional swagger that is defined trumps persona. to day, the former president was uncharacteristically somber. as he became the 1st current or former president to ever be charged with the crime. and this is what he's been charged with. the indictment being unsealed before trump in the court room. $34.00 felony counts, including falsifying business records, and other charges stemming from a $130000.00 hush money payment to a former adult film star. donald trump pleaded not guilty to all the charges. the case against trump laid out later by the manhattan district attorney alvin brag. 34 false statements made to cover up other crimes. these are felony crimes in new york state. no matter who you are. we cannot and will not
4:10 pm
normalize serious criminal conduct. however, the indictment did not impress trump's legal team. this is frustrated. he's upset, but i'll tell you what he's motivated and it's not going to stop him and it's not gonna slow down. earlier outside the courthouse, the anticipation had billed to a fever pitch as both supporters and detractors. of the former president gathered outside phony case. everybody knows that political persecution today is the beginning of a long series of potential passengers. and finally, after hours of waiting trumps motorcade arrived right past our camera. donald trump's motorcade arriving here at the court house. he's in one of these vehicles a historic moment. it's a very scary times, a very fragile time for american democracy. and not only should americans be nervous,
4:11 pm
good people around the world should be as well. this is just the start of what likely will be a long legal battle. the next phase will be a trial. trump's lawyers argued to the judge that they don't want that trial to begin until the middle of next year, putting it right smack in the middle of a presidential campaign, one in which it's probable trump himself would be a top contender for the republican nomination. trump left court without comment after more than 2 hours inside. later in the evening when trump returned to his mar lago, a state in florida, he broke his silence. this fate case was brought only to interfere with the upcoming 2024 election. and it should be dropped immediately from showing his defiance against did you does show process that is very much in motion. gabriel's armando al jazeera, new york and games with us now live from new york game. it's just after 9 in the
4:12 pm
morning. what headlines are americans waking up to, to day off to that historic day yesterday? yeah, they're waking up to headlines of a blaring headlines of that historic day that we had here in new york. let me to show you a couple of them. this is the new york times right here. trump charged with 3 felonies. this is obviously the biggest paper in the united states. you can see that photo on the front showing trump in court. that photo that will go down in history books now surrounded by his lawyers on each side of him with to court police officers as well. trump charged with $34.00 felonies. is the headline there of the new york times. also on the new york post. this is a tabloid here in new york. a conservative tabloid owned by rupert murdoch, has
4:13 pm
a tendency to, to favor trump a little bit. a lot of times and you can see the difference here. headline on the new york post says trumped up. is that it question mark brags historic case versus dawn falls flat. so that see sort of the opinion from the conservative tabloid here in new york. and you can kind of get a sense still using that photograph. of course, of course, is photographed that if we can't mention again is going to go down in history of trump sitting there in a court room. the 1st former or current president ever of course to be charged with the crime. i will say that there was the new york daily news, which is another tabloid here in new york. it's little more anti trump and there headlines they were sold out. couldn't find any of them in the, in the local areas that didn't, they normally sell them. that to a newspaper, the new york daily news just had a big photo of trump in the court is saying, trump arrested. so you're getting
4:14 pm
a really good perspective here of how the newspapers and the media at least here in new york. the tabloids are portraying this day from yesterday, gave our republican party's written leaders reacting to what happened yeah, you're kind of getting the spectrum here. i think within the republican establishment, if you will, there's real concern that if donald trump gets the nomination, the republican nomination, and he's the candidate in the general election, it might be difficult for him to win back some moderate voters, given a what's, what's going on. he says at the trial, if it goes to trial, which most likely it will will happen most likely next year, right in the middle of the presidential campaign. but you have other republicans, more conservative ones that are really rattling to donald trump's defense in the last 24 hours saying that kind of echoing what he says saying, you know, we've got
4:15 pm
a stick with donald trump. that's kind of the view for more of the conservative wing of the republican party. so republican party is very much divided right now, and quite frankly, a little bit in shock of how do they move forward now, knowing that they're, they're one of their top candidates who's leading the poles. and all republicans running for presidency might be on trial. and this is donald trump, who it's highly likely he could be the republican nominee, he's not running 3rd, 2nd, or 4th, he's running number one right now in the polls. listen, we have a long way to go here at the republican party has a big question to answer moving forward and that, do they decide to stick by donald trump? so far it feels like the conservative wing of the party is the more establishment party. not quite sure yet. how serious gabriel alexander live in new york gave many thanks. indeed. well those changes in new york or just some of trump's muddy legal
4:16 pm
troubles. he's also been investigated for his alleged row and the attack on capitol hill. on january the 6th 2021. a committee has recommended trumpet charge for inciting his supporters. the storm, the capital building, after he refused to concede defeat in the 2020 presidential race. another criminal investigation is looking at attempted election fraud in the state of georgia. prosecutor say that trump pleaded with election officials to try to overturn his last joe biden. and last year, the f b, i rated his florida home to retrieve hundreds of classified white house documents that were not returned at the end of his term. let's bring in richard good stain, who's a lawyer and the principal at goldstein and associates, he joined us basketball from washington, d. c. richard, it's good to have you with us. so we have this indictment, then over osh money, as we indicated there, it's quite likely, isn't it that further indictments will come?
4:17 pm
i think it's a certainty, and i think if you had a rank order, the legal jeopardy that donald trump is in this indictment yesterday is maybe worth behind obstruction of justice in connection with these classified documents in connection with the fake elector scheme. where in many states, not just georgia, he tried to get people to assert to the u. s. government that they were donald trump, electors. they were going to vote for trump. it was a fraud on the u. s. government and the pressure on officials in george as you mentioned, as well as whatever role he seems to have had in connection with january 6th. he's got a lot of legal issues hang over him that are quite consequential and that his people should get used to having to deal with or at the case that he was arrested for yesterday, as you say, is kind of forth in the, in the ranking of how serious they are, to what extent though, could it because it was the 1st one to 2 to, to get this far
4:18 pm
d rail, the more serious cases against him, at least in the court of public opinion. well, the good thing is i think in the us and elsewhere, no person is above the law. that's the fundamental principle that we're dealing with here. let's don't forget that trump organization was found guilty last year. a felony is for exactly the kind of conduct the donald trump is accused in its indictment that was released yesterday. so i don't think it's a question of public opinion. there are clear when don't come famous. we said you could shoot somebody in the middle of 5th avenue and we wouldn't lose any supporters. i think that's true. the difference is that a legal that's a crime. and i think finally, the chickens are coming home to roost. and then he can't call all the shots and he didn't business or the did as president in a different venue now where he cannot control things. and that's what got to be
4:19 pm
scared to him. and yet, and yet his big, i think, is the biggest one in the republican party. and i think it's going to be very hard to dislodge him as the front. let's just speculate for a moment. if he were to be convicted or to receive multiple convictions, how would that impact upon his campaign? is there a legal scenario in the us where he wouldn't be allowed to run for office or even devote well under the us constitution? one needs to be 35 years old and a natural born citizen says nothing about somebody having a clean criminal record. i don't think that they wouldn't have to specify. so yes, there are state many states where when you have a condition like this, you weren't denies the right to vote. but it's not at all clear that you have been denied the right to run for office or even served account crazy. the notion that
4:20 pm
somebody would be out of jail elected. that's why the department of justice has a rule against prosecuting an existing president. but that doesn't really speak to the possibility of electing somebody who himself has already been found good. now again, there will be appeals after appeals. this is not going to end next year and down from has to praise, frankly, that he gets elected so that he can quash the federal investigations and prosecution. but that doesn't do anything with the state one in new york and in atlanta, georgia. good to okay. richard many thanks. richard christine that husband scotlands former 1st minister nicholas surgeon, has been arrested. peter morrow was detained on wednesday, as part of an investigation into the scottish national parties campaign financing. let's go live out of london. i'll just pull brandon as far as pull tell us more
4:21 pm
about this investigation. while it's a startling development, the police sending up the home address of pizza merrill and his wife nicholas sturgeon. he the former chief executive of the scottish national party. she recently resigned leader of the not of the scottish national party and what they're investigating. what if the contract so far of an 18 month investigation into the parties finances now specifically, the police are looking at a $748000.00 money raised that was supposed to be ring fenced for the purposes of funding a 2nd scottish referendum. but which appears at 1st glance, at least 2 have been spent on day to day party expenses, which it shouldn't have been. the other thing that the police are looking at is a, an interest rate alone. the peter morrow gave to the party 107000 pounds of around $134000.00. which
4:22 pm
a lot of that. so i should really have been declared within 30 days, and in fact, it wasn't officially declared for for a year. so there's a sense that the reporting rules were not followed correctly. and that's what the police look not fair. so they've arrested him this morning. they have 12 hours to hold him before they need to make a decision on whether to extend that detention for 12 hours or charge him or indeed release him without charge. on the moment the police scotlands simply saying a 58 year old man has been arrested in suspicion of connection with an ongoing investigation. he's in cuffy and other such as are ongoing. where paul does this leave the piano troops, the scottish independence? well, it's really tough. i mean it's the latest and a whole series of setbacks, i think for the scottish national party festival. in february you have nicholas sturgeon, a long standing prominent leader of the party, stepping back. not mentioning anything to do with financial inquisitions or
4:23 pm
inquiries of the reason why she stepped down saying more that she'd run out of steam and didn't have the energy for it anymore than the following month. husband peter merrill was, was essentially forced out by the national executive. you've got the scottish national party who last month were forced to admit the party membership dropped by the most recent thing is the opinion polls showing that by clear 12 percent majority people would if asked. right now currently, votes know to scottish independence. so a combination of political setbacks and now financial difficulties, it appears or at least financial investigations scholars national party from the pipes of just a couple of years ago. now not in a great place for brandon live in london. many thankful francis president mary macolon says that china is close ties with russia made it could play a major role in finding peace in ukraine or kronos on a 3 day state visit to beijing for the 1st time in 4 years. it also be joined by

ear commission president, us love on the lion trade and the war. and ukraine are expected to be the main topics of discussion, looking for their name. this is latoya benjamin faith. we must not be naive. our european union taking this step of europeans over in t that i defended 5 years ago, is establishing trade instruments that are necessary. but the, you must also be voluntarily committed to continuing to have a trade relationship with china. and so we must, in a way reduce the risk to our economies by never being fully dependent on one country. this is what china ones for itself when dealing with europe and the united states. we must not distance ourselves in a way that suggests that ultimately we are meant to do nothing together any more. the european union and china, 2 of the world's biggest trading partners, european countries imported more than $600000000000.00 worth of chinese goods last

year. and exported around $230000000000.00. some european leaders see dependence on china as a security risk and want to reduce it without suffering for economic ties. and tension is growing over bay james claim of neutrality in the war and ukraine use your foreign policy chief use a barrel, has accused china of taking sides with russia after president. she is in pink season thing visited moscow last month, and a thank it is a senior fellow at the time he institute where he specializes in china, political and economic affairs. he joins us now live far from begging on a good teddy with us again up, what will china be looking to get from this visit? well, it's not so much. so what they're looking to get is starting this kind of conversation . they, you know, it started with the 12 point piece plan that they put out there, but it wasn't a complete one. it basically setting the table for what they hope will be
4:26 pm
a piece process. from china's perspective, you have to engage in dialogue and right now, since there is not and they want to start one, there are real concerns in, in beijing that this thing is going out of control with nuclear weapons being mentioned. being positioned. this is not the way to go, they're very concerned that if russia feels completely backed into a corner, it will strike out if it has no other alternatives to china. feel that despite the, the internal division we've been talking about in the, the over at stance on or over, it's relations with moscow that it could be a genuine part of a piece that it could brokers some sort of piece to where that was the 1st person perspective here is that the, you, it's one of the biggest losers, other than ukraine and russia themselves. and, you know, it's really just reeked havoc on the economics of the, you. it's a, you know,
4:27 pm
obviously it's a war on the doorstep. people are concerned. so china believes that the you with the most logical partner to begin a process, which is about diplomacy, not bombs. i, not many thanks to deep ida tank in there. ah, at sir. the ah, china political, an economic cup, or i'm sorry, the tie, he institute at there. right, right. thank you. the nato secretary general says that it would be a historic mistake for china to provide weapons to russia. he and the stolen burg said any such move would have profound implications. china's ties with russia have been on the agenda for day 2 of the nato foreign ministers meeting at brussels. they also been discussing defense spending. meanwhile, ukraine's president followed him as lensky has been awarded. poland, highest civilian honor during his official visit to warsaw, he thanked the neighbouring nation for its support since the russian invasion.
4:28 pm
zalinski says that ukraine wants poland to become a main partner in reconstruction efforts when the war ends. poland is hosting more than 1300000 ukrainian refugees. let's call that a cave. al jazeera jonah haul is their so jonah, ukraine's president in poland. an important ally. what are we to make up this meeting? but it's come at the invitation of the polish president, see a full state occasion, pomp and pageantry, as you probably seeing in the pictures there. and as you said, president zalinski awarded the highest state honor in the company of his wife, alina so, you know, certainly one aspect of this is that this is a broadening, a deepening of a very close alliance. they weren't always close allies, of course, at between these 2 neighbors at poland has been hugely instrumental in coalescing european support behind ukraine taking in all those refugees. clearly ukraine wants all of that to continue. there is another aspect to it though,
4:29 pm
which is taking the opportunity perhaps to just paper over a couple of very small cracks beginning to show in the alliance before they become any more divisive, notably, the flow of cheap ukrainian grain into the european union into poland. in particular, free and bringing the price of grain down and upsetting domestic producers, domestic farmers in a number of countries. indeed po to pharmacists threatened to try and disrupt this visit. they haven't done so yet. but during the course of the morning, the polish agriculture minister resigned in protest at the european commissions decision to continue to allow cody ukrainian grading terrorist free all the way through 2024. so it is an issue of concern. it is a small crack, but they will be a deep interest in making sure these divisions don't grow as foreign ministers meeting in brussels right now to what we expect any more military aid to be offered to ukraine. but jen stolt. burge,
4:30 pm
you were pointing out his comments at the end of that meeting, they're talking about ukraine reaffirming ukraine's future in the euro atlantic alliance. he said, and with a program of work to begin now over a number of years to help you create and bring up its political standards to nato levels. pursuant to eventual membership, but pursuant more urgently to what is expected to be a spring counter offensive launched by ukraine potentially in the east of this country to try and dislodge russian positions there? yes, as you say, more aide offered the americans that come to the table with another $2600000000.00 of military a, bringing their total to $35000000000.00 since the war began. delivering things like surveillance radar systems, anti tank rockets and so on. the spaniards have said they will eventually now be delivering 6 never to tanks that they had pledged. they arrived late, but they are on their way. and the pose also reaffirming president duda that they

thirty's now will move across to east asia. we're going to see temperatures tumble in places like japan as that system pulls its way further east. it's already brought some very heavy rain to the korean peninsula, places like south korea and disrupted flights there. it does work its way further east into thursday and friday, taking the heavier rain to more southern parts of japan. so those thunderstorms are popping off for taiwan stretching down to hong kong as well. but a much clearer picture across central and northern parts of china and we will see the temperature in beijing dipped on slightly before picking up. that should weather update. kara, by the thanks still to come on. these are perused, president, survived the impeachment vote for failing to stop violence during empty government protests last year of courting tourists to the face of violence. maribel tries to revive a vital industry in the middle of a civil war that in sport a loss, but it penalty and the hopes of the title favorites to the german comp. i be here with it around 20 minutes.

4:36 pm
this meetings, at least in, in diplomatic terms. i think, you know, a precedent tie one to, i'll have her like a c before she'd department office next year. so she wanted to know her visit to the us. maybe a chris, a dental in president in a way that she might have some kind of breakthrough and it will be a, you know, something to reception or b r never happened before. but i think, you know, there is a lot of we call a minor adjustment of, of her schedule. so she, 1st of all, she didn't go to washington d. c. i some, you know, in time one pro came like she might be and someone says she would have an official visit. it didn't happen. so the only thing she has is a transit visit to our,
4:37 pm
to the united states on the way to the central american ally, honduras, and belize. so on her way there, you know, she stop in new york, which a lot of our former president has done that before. and then all the way back to that stop it l a. the same thing here. the difference is here in the past, a lot of congressman or senator will either or local government official like governor or mayor, or will visit our, our president and the hotel or, you know, kind of basically maybe having a phone conversation. so this is the 1st time that a speaker at the house will, you know, shared the floor with her b. l. a. ok, so that might be you can consider that a great through saw, you know, nancy pelosi actually came to taiwan here. so some people say, you know,
4:38 pm
if for kevin mccarthy wanted leave his mark, he should come to ty walker, but so maybe no government has given consideration. so given, given that how to, how to people there in taiwan view, the, what's going on with the presto, to love it is this sort of, is this being perceived as well, a bit of a mis and embarrassment? well, in the way it time when we would never has our, you know, initiative on a lot of things. a lot of time are we try to, you know, arrange a trip. but it is at the, i would say, at the mercy of the american, you know, administration now sometimes they will allow because sometimes they will not sometimes, and they will, you know, make a visit more official by explaining to visiting a different tone. but this time, i think we were disappointed that are, at least from the bitin administration the briefing didn't happen. and then are,
4:39 pm
you know, are there was not a lot of officials meeting, no officials from the admin. it's the democratic biden administration to meet with our, our president, our so only be, you know, the representatives are an mostly republican by in california. she will meet some of also democrats as well. but they are, you know, parliamentarians. yeah, they are not government administrative official. so we're in a way us, it's not breaking the wine. china. ok. just just very briefly. the president then leaves office next year. what can we expect from the the, the next president in 2024 who's? who's not likely to be ok right now. the korean vice president ally is running for the d p. b, the ruling party as he is going to be the candidate. and he might windy election by
