welcome to the news our who see rebels. the saudi led coalition are holding a large scale prisoner exchange. in a major step towards ending the 8 year war in yemen. hundreds of thousands of people have been killed. and millions displace more than $900.00 detainees are expected to be released over the next 3 days. and the capital santa, the 1st groups of who's the prisoners of arrived home is part of broader diplomatic efforts to end of the war. a man has been mediating talks, make the temporary cease fire become permanent, where we challenge has more on the breakthrough international airport in yemen. the men leaving this plain, returning to freedom, was released as part of a prisoner swap between saudi arabia and the iran back to the rebels. now we are happy to return to the capital some after we were in the presence of the enemy. he thanked abdul malik l,

who's the corporation on the kitchen this asked of these prisons. it's a huge moment for them personally. but it's the realization of a political breakthrough to around $900.00 prisoners will be released in the exchange. it's part of a deal. reach in negotiations between the 2 sides, seeking an end to the near 9 year war mediated by a man. the international committee for the red cross is the seeing the prison swaps the look of defense saved. now the look of happiness is exactly what's all about. we are proud at the international meeting with the heads of our colleagues, the yemen. griffin city stated this. that's the 1st day we have 2 days to come and hopefully things will go smooth. landing at the same time and aiden was a plane from to now, this cross carried him and he government officials released by the fees. they included emmons for my defense minister in the middle here, and the brother of the president's behind him. of course it's

a quiet stick and if it is step and it's de bidding a damage we'll trust between the legitimate government and dad. he also picked the way to the beach, a plan in the yemen view, and broke a 6 month truce officially ended in october, but still largely holds. the recent diplomatic push comes of the 2 main players and what is often called a proxy will have made peace last month, saudi arabia and iran agreed to when their 7 year diplomatic rift re established diplomatic ties in a deal broken by china. this is the 1st concrete result of not only how many mediation, but the iran saudi agreement, which is beginning to bear fruit in yemen at least, if not yet elsewhere in the region. a significant moment, most definitely. however,
12:05 am
finding common ground between saudi arabia and the hudy's for a long lasting piece will take more work, and more time will returns out there. well, there's hutcher. marlborough has covered the conflict extensively said saudi arabia is consolidating its influence across the region, starting with yemen. if you look of the elements of this geopolitical puzzle in this part of the world are cattle and by wayne, restoring diplomatic ties. at the same time, you have the syrian ambassador of missile far enough as they sell market that in, engender amid talks about rehabilitation. in a shuttle asset and restoring ties with bus shuttle. and this could further expand towards places like lebanon and libya. these are places where the device has been more pronounced than ever, where the saudis are hoping now that they have the iranians or boards, or at least teaming up with the iranians, they will be able to solve those problems. what does it mean?
12:06 am
it simply means that saudi arabia is further consider, dating is geo political influence in the region. that was, they would like to show the world's imp and the americans in particular that with the robust economy, the huge financial osher assessor. they have with the spiritual wall of size arabia as being a home to the is loves to holly science sites in mecca and medina. they're using that to their own political leverage. of course, they are teaming up with iran for the simple reason. iran is a she, our country. it has been backing boxes in different parts of the world. yemen is a, one of those cases. the hope is, as these is out of should have she are islam, the saudis are telling the world, listen, we have the way to do it. and the way would like to do it is we're starting with yemen, hoping to see this spreading across the region. the ultimate goal is peace and stability in the middle east. in the upcoming years. will they be able to overcome both of those delicate, tiny, or issues in the region? we'll have to wait and see whether that was going to be possible to warn yemen
12:07 am
crated what the united nations, as repeatedly called the world's worst humanitarian crisis, around 375000 people have died in the conflict. millions more have been displaced. david g wrestling is the un humanitarian coordinator for yemen. he says a ceasefire will be of great benefit to the people of the country. the only way to do it to reduce it in humanitarian assistance, is to find out into the conflicts. so we were very hopeful that this move continues the ending of the air strikes the cessation hostilities on the front lines. major major improvements in people's day to day lives. secondly, opening the port of who data has allowed fuel and other essential commodities come in freely. the economy is starting to come back, jobs are created, and that also helps us move away from humanitarian assistance. and finally, the airports in santa as not fully open, but enough to get medical cases out so that people can get treatment. many have
12:08 am
wait years for such treatment, so these are all very positive signs of what even a limit the truce can do. so we expect much more with a with a cease fire, a potential settlement and conflict. last year we saw some progress with about 2000000 people. no longer requiring 2000000 people less no longer requiring humanitarian assistance for food distribution, for example. but still there's going to be a long time of need for assistance as recovery kicks in. it won't be over night, and so, but it will be a good start. we also have concerns on land mines of all across the front lines. land mines out excluded ordinance remain a major threat and we see casualties. 2 to 3 times a week, people killed, maimed men, women, and particularly children. so there are many things we're going to have to work on, even with a settlement. probably the biggest is the return home or resettlement of the

4500000 people displaced by the conflict to francois where the constitutional council has given the green light to president minute microns pension reforms. protests are continuing across the country and in paris, right? police have been deployed. com growing unrest. the court rejected the idea of holding a public referendum on the issue. the bill said to raise the retirement age in france from 62 to 64. by cong, forced the deeply unpopular bill through parliament without a vote. natasha butler has more from the french capital for now, 100 paycheck in front of 15, st. george perez, and most of them have told us that they are not surprised. as usual council as approved president emanuel macro meant to bring bill. but that doesn't mean they're not disappointed. all frustrated what they've been telling us they want to continue to pay to continue to demonstrate because they they continue to the person on the

french government that even though this bill will become no. but bob's voicemail mike won't be forced to scrap the law. you can even see a link strike. people here with no more sombre, dizzy that a consumer it feels is with the government is not listening or seen what's happening in the street. so we'll continue to protest on to the hearing and see that this is also something this observable. of course, the council's decision is disappointing because we believe there was a legal basis for it to scratch the bill. we feel that the spirit of democracy is being respected in this country. somebody says, opening up a sign over there saying o, end of democracy because a lot of people feel like they feel that the french president simply hasn't been listening to the purchase in the street that have been happening since the beginning of the year that he's disconnected. from the concerns ordinary people. now what is clear is that the decision by for all this post you show council is

12:12 am
a federal judge. there were 3 of his family members in the court room, along with a crowded court room of spectators. we understand that he made eye contact and there were teary eyes by the family members, as they saw him appear before the judge. to hear those charges against him. we should point out that the federal bureau of investigation or f b i is still conducting an investigation, so there could be more charges forthcoming. and those charges that have been laid so far do carry half deep penalties. now, there have been questions raised about how somebody so young could have access to such a serious a information. information that is classified information that contains a highly, highly sensitive intelligence and in we should explain that when it comes to top secret security clearances in the united states. it is not unusual for very low
12:13 am
level members of the military, even in this case, a member of the air national guard. in the case of jack to shera, this is a volunteer position where someone would serve maybe once a month be called in cases of national emergency to have such a clearance. but it is not uncommon. however, it is something that is now under review in terms of whether or not that is still a good idea to handle these types of clearances on our us sort of a wide spectrum moving forward, according to the attorney general merit garland, that the department of defense is leading an important effort now to evaluate and review the national security implications and most important to conduct a review of the methods of access accountability and control procedures that the department has so that something like this can never happen again. we should point out that the u. s. president joe biden, also the commander in chief of the u. s. military is praising law enforcement for
12:14 am
their swift effort in apprehending the suspect jack to share our with regard to this case. he is also pointing out that the white house is not confirming the validity of these documents that have appeared on line. also acknowledging that there could still be more that could be revealed as a result of the fact that so many were present in the public domain before they were detected. what we do know is right now, some uncomfortable conversations are taking place with partners and allies. given the fact that some of that intelligence that's been exposed involves partner nations. we should also point out that well, this was the 1st hearing for jack to shera. there will be another hearing next week that's known as a detention hearing. that is where his bail will be sat and it is expected to be a very high price tag, in terms of his bond. coming up on al jazeera, this news out a warm welcome. brazil's president has the red carpet rolled out for him in bay,

a joint briefing with the visiting german foreign minister. i think it was often aren't letting me flag over home. i have to wonder why the chinese positioning so far does not include a car for the aggressor, russia to stop the war. we are now their president put in would have the opportunity to die. so at any time in the people in ukraine, we're likely nothing more. i to finally be able to live in peace again. seduce me, silly tomba. sure. what about what additional of our one point i want to emphasize is that china's role in the ukraine issues and our proposition boils down to one point that is to persuade and promote toggling off of we will not do anything to add fuel to the flames. and brazilian brazil, louis and our sailor de silver's throwing his weight behind china's bid to broker a peace deal between russia and ukraine. during meeting which i in his present gigi, being president, luther also secured a raft of trade deals that he says will consolidate what he called the 2 countries

. extraordinary relationship which a kimber reports from hong kong. the expenses for friendship, brazilian president louis scenario alluded to silver, is the latest in a recent line of international leaders to be given the red carpet treatment by china's leader. she, jim ping in exchange, a show of solidarity from lula towards beijing's effort to broker p. steel in ukraine, home, chinese state, media, se the leaders agreed to dialogue and negotiations of the only way out of the conflict. analysts say that bolsters china's efforts to work with partners in the bricks. alliance of brazil, india, russia, and south africa. and counter a u. s. lead strategy of sanctioning moscow offering military support to ukraine. it's important to remember that brazil is an instrumental part of breaks and more generally speaking, china's multi polar well order that house lead, present,

conception, all the world where you do not have a single edge moon. but instead of poly 10, well, what brazil, china and other leading countries in the globe without can comprise a prominent poll that balances against what they view to be western hagerman. he said it's, it's not just politics on the presidential agenda. the 2 leaders of signed a raft of business deals covering agriculture, energy, and infrastructure. turn in the brazil largest trading partner for more than a decade last year, but actual trade topped $150000000000.00. that's almost double the figure between brazil and the united states in addition to securing new trade ties during his time in china. president luda has ushered in the appointment of brazil's former leader dilner recess as the head of the bricks, new development bank, bangladesh, egypt, uruguay, and the united arab emirates also joining the bank. it's a move that set to expand funding for developing countries and extend beijing's

global sphere of influence. that's what brazil bring bring in. i'm a big country, and this is not only about china, this is about the global south. as we understand that we, brazilian, each china, china will come with that message because it's in the interest. but i think we need to realize that, that, that's a, it's a very, very symmetric brakes and the map of the word alliance. it's an alliance that attracting increasing attention more than a dozen countries have expressed interest in joining bricks, including iran and saudi arabia. china is backing an expansion over the block. if it gets its way, the may be a need for even more red carpet rollouts in beijing in the near future. richard kimber, al jazeera hong kong. okay, well let's bring in bringing. i've been yes, a use of research you're working on china and latin america. the london school of

economics, he joined me now via skype. welcome to the news out. as he heard that clearly they wouldn't have been this red carpet treatment for president lulu if the relationship between brazil and china wasn't important. can you put it into perspective economically for us, both of course, all bricks nations, but what does that actually mean bilaterally? so brazil is a t export of commodities towards china. china, it has been since 2007 brazil, number one trading partner. china is also increasingly investing in brazil in manufacturing and other sectors. and chinese corporations are also very much involved in infrastructure. the tricity sector in brazil. so it's definitely a very strong relationship economically. it's certainly also true that trade tends to be brought materials from brazil. iron soybeans meet,
12:21 am
go into china and chinese manufacturers go into brazil, which is a concern for the brazilian government for lunar new. last trip in a sense, is the reset of their relationship. given that there are less products that are available. so nato relationship was quite tense. so this is an attempt to regain trust and to strengthen the relationship that used to be quite strong during the 1st term. in office, but one of the ways he's able to regain trust and reset that relationship is by calling on developing countries to work towards replacing the dollar, whether right and respective currencies, motors, brazil, hope to gain from their sin is partnership with china. so basically, let's try to position brazil as an emerging power, that is not a magically aligned with either the united states or china. but it certainly has an interest in promoting
12:22 am
a reform of the international order. let's say as it has been defined by the united states and western europe. so his criticism of the use of the us dollar is part of that is demand for a change. for instance, in the un security council of brazil have for many years aspire to be one of the permanent members of the security council criticism and desire for change and more and more representative international monetary fund, world bank, etc. right. so in that regard, i think the reason an item and of interest being lula and shipping, even if so far, it's mostly symbolic in nature, maybe say body, but this is pretty risky for brazil isn't a could be seen to be picking sides. china over the e u in the us. that's why the fact that the brazil and other countries in latin america are still influence under the influence of the us. i think little in that sense is a pragmatic eagles has already visited joe biden. it's true was
12:23 am
a short visit to washington in february, but he did visit the united states 1st and he wants medical sewer, a trade blog, brazil forms with argentina, power away in norway. he wants me to sign or modify a trade agreement with you this year. i don't think the real estate, but he's certainly try to position brazil as a global south country that definitely has a lot of coincidences with china. but that can also deal pragmatically with the united states and europe. that's the ration. but as you say, it's a risky bit risky, bad indeed, to brazil, charting a new pass for itself in the future. bruno been yes, he loves school of economics. thanks for joining us. thanks. the u. s. supreme court is temporarily halted rulings from lower courts to limit access to the abortion pill. never krista, following an appeal form the by the administration. only j. castro joins us now
12:24 am
from washington. d, from dc from or in this. and heidi, so is this temporary home to the ruling that would limit access to abortion medication? is it likely that that temporary halt could become permanent sooner? right, that is the big question here. now, not too much should be read into this temporary halt. it's only good until the end of next wednesday, so we're only talking about a few days time. it was written by one of the more conservative justices, samuel lido. however, this is his jurisdiction over the lower court in this case. ah, and he didn't say anything in the short ruling itself that would of here to sway one way or the other. this brief time is just for the justices to review the cases further. and then we'll be back at this exact same moment come wednesday night when the deadline again comes before the lower court's rulings. what again, what that does, of course, was this is a tab from anti abortion activists against the use of medication or abortion. if
12:25 am
the lower court rulings were to take effect, it would drastically limit access of american women to those medications. oh, do you? of course, which of this is an election issue for ball i didn't as opposed to the republican party? it's clearly a hot topic. doesn't look absolutely an democrat, certainly use the abortion debate as a credit for why they perform so well during the mid term elections. and we're already seeing movement trying to capitalize politically on this continued attack on abortion from the left. if you just look at florida, a state bad just to day, the a governor randa santa's signed into law a new ban on abortion past 6 weeks will de santis may be a challenger to trump or the republican primary. and already we are seeing democrats say that they will try to really connect the sanchez and his states move

the diplomatic. but also as you say, the intensely personal as well. he made repeated references during the speech here outside and medics cathedral and probably not to his ancestor. edward blew it his great great great grandfather who left ireland to go to america in the 1850s. but before he did donated some 27000 bricks for the building of the church behind me, there was also a deeply personal and poignant moment during the course of this afternoon when the president met by chance, frankly, the u. s. army chaplain, who gave the last rights to his dying son, bo biden, in 2015. at that time, he was a chaplain in washington. now he's a priest of the shrine. knock, which is where your body visited this afternoon and they happened upon each other purely by chance. the other thing that your buttons really emphasized as his irish ancestry and it went very well, went down very well with the crowd here,

that we have been reporting that there was a law passed a year ago by congress. the 1st significant gun legislation in 30 years, but it really didn't have any teeth. it didn't take away any guns off the market. it provided funding for school education for a red flag alerts for states that is a learning people that alerting to people that might be dangerous because of things they posted on social media, etc. but really if anything, the state laws are becoming loser here in indiana last year, this state became the 22nd state to allow people to carry guns without a permit that concealed carrying of gun. so there is no background check. sometimes there is one when you buy the gun, but pretty lax atmosphere and here you've got people celebrating that. but also president trump has been warning that there are people in washington trying to grab their guns. something that's not really happening right now until this pretty

something that has still not been counted. then as well, the ever present danger of geo political fragmentation which you rushes invasion of ukraine made very real. i think it's the threat already which materialized for europe. the energy crisis is part of a fragmentation. and when we're looking at european growth in the medium term, high energy prices, sheets of one and a half percentage points from medium term growth. so it has already materialized and it's not something hypothetically for europe and going beyond europe that threat to global fragmentation, very clear in the conflict between the us and russia, which could force nations to pick sides and split the global community. my kind of audience era, washington, the european space agency as lost admission to jupiter, to look for conditions necessary for life beyond our planet. column baker has war

the fiery start of a 12 year mission to peer below ice on another world. the jupiter icy moons explorer, or juice is looking for alien oceans that might harbor life. it will study calisto europa and ganymede. 3 of the biggest moons orbiting the nearest gas giant earth. as well as jupiter itself on fat on put yeah, could ship it there. we can say the jupiter is like minnesota system. imagine the jupiter at the center is like the star in in the iceland. like the planet fight yesterday. yeah. scientists believe each hides a dark ocean. 100 kilometers deep or more beneath the pock marked icy surfaces. on earth, jupiter is one of the brightest objects in the night sky. these moons are visible through a basic telescope, but it's 600000000 to 1000000000 kilometers away from earth. and getting there
12:43 am
without relying on its own fuel means juice needs the gravitational pull of several planets, including our own to pick up enough speed. after leaving earth it's planned that juice will make one orbit around the sun and then return a few months later to use the gravity of both earth and the moon to gain more speed . venus will give it a push in august 2025. before it again passes earth in 20262029. it will then travel at top speed toward jupiter. that'll catch it in 2031. it will have 4 years to find and measure the oceans. our instruments is a reader, low frequency reader data as a default usanga analysis of the soft surface. all good d i. c moons. so we look her into the mysteries of the soft surface because we can penetrate her for about an kilometers. magnetometers will measure how these oceans move juice will map materials on the moon surfaces in detail and take photographs.
12:44 am
it will spend most of its time in orbit around ganymede, a rare moon that has its own magnetic field. cassandra la cater to joes. the real mission of juice is left behind habitability. this does not mean life, it means the conditions for the appearance of life. but that would be a huge step. the pioneering mission is due to end in july 2035. by then, juice will be withered by jupiter's harsh radiation and crash into ganymede mission accomplished colin baker al jazeera. let's get more now with amy lynn thompson, a science journalist at space dot com in orlando, florida. welcome to the usa. so why are we actually doing this, given that the nasa mission to jupiter, that hasn't left yet will actually arrive at its intended target before the european space agencies? yes. so this kim's every one at nasa, iraq. i'm the chance to simultaneously study 2 different moons that are orbiting
12:45 am
jupiter. so nasa as europe a clipper mission will focus on europa and juice will focus on ganymede. and so they will be able to tell us a lot of different things about both of the moon's, including their potential for habitability. before we get on to the fun stuff and her by alien life, and whether or not it's, these moons are habitable. can you talk about the enormous costs involved? because as far as the big question is the cost of $1740000000.00, or is it worth it? yes. so jupiter is sort of like a mini solar system. and the hope is that the questions or the answers that we get from this mission will help answer questions about planetary formation. how the moon's form, and then we can use this to figure out what's going on in other solar systems. so
12:46 am
it's definitely worth it. it's going to be able to answer a lot of fundamental questions about planetary science and just science in general . though, the missions involve detail observations, as you say, have done made calisto europa, which of those moons excites you the most, a water we likely to see? okay, so they're all very exciting for different reasons. if we're talking about habitability, europe as probably the winner there, it's a very active moon. it has a lot of the things that we see in the oceans here on earth as far as water interacting with soil and a lot of the things that happen on the ocean floor. but ganymede is really interesting. it is the largest moon in the solar system. it also happens to be the only one that has its own magnetic field. so we're hoping that juice is going to be able to answer why that is, why is this moon the one that has the magnetic field?
12:47 am
and then so kind of is a little bit different because it's an older surface moon. so it kind of explains, you know, what's going on, it's further away from jupiter. is jupiter, protecting these other 2 moons from, from things out in the solar system on the logic is swerve us water, those potentially life of these boons of water. what sort of life could potentially exist? oh yeah, any type of aquatic life. i'm basically what this is going to be looking for is the molecules that indicate there could be life present. so, you know, it could be microbes, it could be who knows, but this is potentially one of the best places to look in. the solar system will actually happen to the mission itself when it's fulfilled its task. yes, of the spacecraft. and so like i mentioned earlier, europa is a little bit higher for habitability then ganymede. but ganymede does have the
12:48 am
sub surface ocean, so there could be something interesting going on there. but as of right now, scientist don't think that there are going to be actual microbes on the planet. so they are going to take the spacecraft and crash it into the moon at the end of the mission. sort of like cassini dead at saturn. so ob, it's going to be very similar and how long will it actually take before we gets any useful data back on? i thought a useful images, for instance. yeah, so it should probably come maybe a month or 2 after they arrive at jupiter. there is a little bit of a lag in the communication time, so it's about 45 minutes to send and receive signals. but usually on the spacecraft the instruments are going to be on while it's flying through space, they're going to be checking it out. so as soon as it arrives, it's going to start to actually 6 months before that it's going to start taking
12:49 am
data. and so it should be fairly soon after it makes it to jupiter or i amy lynn thompson. money, thanks for sharing your passion with us. well, thanks for joining us on usa. now as spanish mountain climber has ended, a self imposed isolation challenge where she spent $500.00 days in an underground cave. beatrice fly meanie hers have no contact with people since november 2021 is all part of an experiment. so the effects of isolation on the human body of a 50 year old extreme athlete. so she took up painting and lots of exercise to stave away. boredom and to stay mentally well yes he wasn't lying around fiona and i am a lawyer. i am still mentally stuck on the 21st of november 2021 and i don't know what has happened in the world. i don't know. i have come out of the cave, i have no idea what happened and seeing you all in masks for me, there was store cove,

we are happy where we are and now we have to finish the job. everybody knows that if we lose gains will, is competition. and that's why our attention and details are higher is the same like to world willows again to will not be champion if who in we could be a still there because we cannot forget to we are 6 points. me. hi, national, a team like a drop few few points to in the season and playing one game a week with a lot to him for recovery and allies and proper to games. there will be so difficult to draw points. so that's why you have to be there as much as possible. i to say knighthood boss eric tan hag has spoken out in defense of harry mcguire following the defender scoring an old goal that casa red devils at victory at old trafford. mcguire wasn't the only united they're guilty of converting into his own natural in their european legal court. a final 1st leg against viet well, having led to anal for much of the matter. at molasses scored an old goal in the

12:56 am
but they suffered the disappointing exit to buy munich in the last 16. now it remains that for them is winning the french lou can take on a 2nd place, a loss at home next. a loss would reduce the estes advantage at the top of the table to just 3 points. another issue for the french club is little mess is future with the argentinean woke up when a out of contract at the end of the season. we've been speaking to a f. b sports reporter in spain. rick sharma who says that winning this year's league, our title, want, have a made to impact on message decision. i don't think messy feature will be influenced by women, the league or not in france with the sd of the season. i think his future empowers is probably coming to an end and he's had a decent 2 years there in terms of his output goals and exists. but the things of solid about obviously with the champions league exit and at the end of the day, that's what they brought, messy in. and what messy wanted by going to p s g was

a chance when a jump busy again, because he hasn't won since 2015 when he was a boss learner. when they try to invent the symbolic and that's kind of always been an issue for messy. he wanted to win more champions, leaves he wanted boss lens can be a high level and they, they couldn't. they fell out of the european elite. where will he play next season? is the big, big, big question. i wouldn't 100 percent rule out person man. as his club, because there are talks, of course, a good returns about land where he rides 13 year old boy and in a so romantic sense to be the best place for him to go. another place but massey does like to go to a holiday in miami and into miami is an option. i don't know how strong that link is either. i'd be surprised if best women's ended up next season. but it's certainly something that down the line you could see happening and saudi arabia is the other choice. the idea here again and then our defense renewal of the rivalry with christiana, rinaldo and of course messy, would be able to make
12:58 am
a huge amount of money if he, if he did go to saudi arabia, went back to the, for the countries, a paid and tourism saudi arabia, so maybe that's an avenue that has been i been not to say that he's going to go down it, but it's certainly an option. that's a for me, a 100 back to even london. thanks a lot. well, that's it for me need for this news. you're watching. i'll just the right. i ah.
