there is no sign. the warring parties are ready to negotiate and has warned, of further suffering as long as the fighting continues. assert, bake of desert at these students from other countries are stuck inside cartoon, and they're pleading for health. this is an appeal by the many students in sudan to charity and relief organizations and to benevolent businessman. we are living under the brunt or shelling and gunfire helpless and defenceless. we are left with no options. we have sent similar messages to our government. as you can see in many students and left without shelter, we're almost like 3 days. or what is the max? is it more than these will align with more than me? hey, morgan, that is live in court tomb for us hippo. what's it like on the streets of the capital on de 12 of this conflict?
4:05 pm
one is largely depends on which street you're on in the southern and eastern parts of the capital. people are trying to get on buses to leave the gear capitol, autumn, and try to go to neighboring states, or even leave the country along the it through the egyptian border or the if you'll be in border. so places where the cease fire seems to be relatively holding. people are trying to make their way out. then you have places like the northern part of the capitol, where until just about a few hours ago we were able to hear heavy artillery strikes, forcing people to stay within their homes for safety reasons. and then there are those who are trying to leave. they said that they want to leave the capital, they want to find a safer place, whether it's in the river and i'll in the northern part of the capital or g 0 and the central part of the capital. but they no longer have the financial means to do so, because when the findings thought that they did not have cash at home and they did not have enough money in their banking apps and even banking apps are unreliable. so there are there, there are people who are trying to make their way out of their homes to various other states or out of the country in some parts of the capital, but in others where there's ongoing fighting and where people don't have the means
4:06 pm
to do so you can see empty streets, people are trying to figure out the very few people moving are under on the streets, trying to figure out where to go to how to get basic comma commodities as their prices continue to increase day by day. and we're very, very good with in the situation is really dial business has come to a halt at the center market. people are really suffering as many have most of the, the income and many have flipped their homes. was it a la carte albany? we are suffering a lot, especially the lack of electricity and water supply. bakeries are also closed, the market is open, but movement is very slow and most commodities are absa. aletha is sharla. we hope they reach an agreement in the interest of the people. my, we hope peace and security restored soon. how to by sell movement is very slow. we are doing our best to help each other with that is why we even handout goods to those without money letting the love of ever we saw from acids reports are at the

top of the show that multiple prisons have been emptied over the last few days. and there are now some notorious prisoners running free, including ahmed harun wanted for war crimes who is behind this, who is emptying these prisons while both sides just like the a case of a ceasefire, are accusing each other of being behind the prism brakes and the capitol the rapids about forces is accusing the army of being behind the or the breaking of cobra national prison, where the inmates were housed, including the, a senior members of the former ruling party, led by former president armitage bishop. now the army also released the statement accusing the rapid support forces in turn and saying that the minister that the prisons fall under the ministry of interior, and that it's their duty and not the duty of the military to take care of those who are in presence at that's the 5th prison in the capitol helped him to be broken into an effectively at the moment. there are no prisoners in jail, and there is no jail that can house inmates fully say that they will be working on
4:08 pm
it. but that the rapid support forces have taken over their ministry and has shot many, many police officers that is making their job quite hard. but both sides are accusing or trading accusations of who is responsible behind the prison brakes and hudson, where more than 20000 prisoners, including the senior members of the ruling party, have been released as a result. him morgan reporting from car to monday, 12 of this conflict. thank you to you and your team have a, as we mentioned, sort of nice people are scrambling to flee the fighting. the un says at least 20000 people have crossed into chad. joining the 400000 student needs. refugees were already there. egyptian authorities say more than 10000 people have entered from sudan in the past 4 days alone. and sit in itself is hosting more than a 1000000 refugees. most of them from south sedan. well, many of them now are returning home. the u. s. has registered for 1000 returning so far, but they say many more on route, possibly up to 125000. and even before the latest biting,
4:09 pm
3700000 people were internally displaced. that means with incident a number that has risen already by tens of thousands in just a few days. they, united nation special representative for sedan was recently relocated from cartoon to port sedan. and he says basic facilities are almost destroyed from airport is reportedly now operational. but it's a prince, are damaged residential address areas near the headquarters of the army, and the airport have come under press system attacks. home shop school, it's water and electricity installations. most hospitals and other health facilities have been damaged or are now fully disjoint. al 0 is mohammed al, tire is that a fuel station in the south of cartoon, la, malaise, m out when our fuel represents the sum of all crises here in the south and the southern parts of her home. most fuel stations like this one behind me,
4:10 pm
her shot tanks are empty and the station is out of service. i'm getting your hands on fuel, in general, as extremely difficult with has caused an increase in the prices of transport and food. this is one of the major fuel stations on exit team street, which has closed its doors since the fighting became involved. the sorting oil prices has impacted every aspect in life and custom. it affected the evacuation operations and even the movement of displaced people. the price of food imported from outside the capital is also impact. i thought this crisis will get worse if fuel is made available soon. some people have taken advantage and are selling fuel on the black market at higher prices. for example, a gallon of fuel has gone from force to denny's pounds. let's about 8 years dollars to $40000.00, which is about 80 us dollars and is expected to rise even more yet. so that is a high price that many people can't afford. we spoke to groceries, thorns,
4:11 pm
butchers and other shopkeepers, they are struggling to get stock. most movement is crippled as many cars have run out of fuel. that is why i described it as the sum of all crises. al jazeera hush, him or her bar joins us now. for more on, on all things, sedan look what's particularly everything's particularly worrying about sedan at the moment. but what we're going to focus on here is these of prison releases. jailbreak is not the right word. they didn't break out, it looks like they were released and it's unclear by whom i was asking him just a moment ago and she says both sides are safe, army trading blame for this. um, what's, what's your reporting on that on who may be behind this? the reason why who having those conflicting reports about who allow those people out of jail. because this is an explosive subjects in incident and for her. and for a reason, the army has been seeing those jails were not under our control, and she talked to the miss of interior, the minutes of india. so this was a delicate moment, and we were coming under fire from hematoma and his own people,
4:12 pm
as of their axes committee for allowing this to happen. because if in sudan, now i say that you are the one who allow those people out, you will become the demon for the so that you, that you're the pariah. nobody wants to claim as do with holiday faith, a price for a reason to $1000.00. i mean, when the prod about grassy movement started hammett and we're had decided to jump out of the boat because they saw that that sentiment was, it was a genuine change out of the brochure about exactly when the are the product of the same political establishment except that a few months ago, albert had realized that is absolutely no way for them to move forward. if those will have the backing of the old guard. and this is why they started to reconcile with some members of the old establishment because they needed them for different reasons. because, you know, and bashir was then empower for almost from a, from fort for 30 years. the missile foreign affairs, the intelligence, the army trade unions everywhere. you have the establishment that was created by
4:13 pm
the islamists and alicia, it was difficult to just decide in 2019 to move forward. we need to dismantle the whole establishment that prevailed for all those 3 decades. hamilton was very smart because he was the one to hook, jumped out 1st and he said, i'm adamant of the near to clamp down on the old guard. for the simple reason. he was starting to build a career and he was thought he was starting to think about it can over sooner as a ruler. he knows there's no chance he can survive in the future with the process of politically slap this. his way to day, we're talking about fragile cease fires because both i ng what happens to the old god and both need to build somehow some sorts of bridges with the old gods, but who would benefit from them being out of jail from having a somebody who's wanted by the international criminal court, and that may not carry a whole lot of weight in this,
4:14 pm
in these political landscape. it's still from having somebody was wanted for war crimes, out of jail who would benefit from that? because of the same time they're not telling us the you see says the thought of this, a violent confrontation between amity and, and the army. we've been having those war words, different narratives about exactly what's happened. we know that there have been brutalities and atrocities committed against civilians over the last few days. but issues being the other for what is what is happening. and each is using this whole story about allowing the old god back into power just to discredit the other part of it. we have, we have gotten to the point where the army does not have what it takes to defeat amity and amity of the same time. has the loyalty of 100000 well equipped soldiers will come mainly from the 4 area and some different alliances in the center of the north of the country. equally doesn't look like he can defeat your exactly. so now where they are doing, they're trying to win the heart and mind other people,
4:15 pm
particularly the pro democracy movement of the people who have suffered under the former regime of president on martin bashir. and this has all become about discredit in the other party. but you know what is the problem? so if this goes on for the coming weeks, this could become a prolonged war. and if it's a prolonged war, the chances for sir denison disintegrate becomes bigger than any time before. if this continues, blue 9 will break way. caught the final will break away until full will break away and this is why both parties are pretty much anxious about what happens next. and this is why they are adamant on the need to finish this war. as soon as possible. if the fighting continues, you sent for the moment, there is, it continues almost unabated and there's no sign that it's going to end soon. hush, my whole bar. thank you so much for your reporting. the u. n says at least 20000 refugees from sedan have crossed into chad. ahmed address joins us live from the
4:16 pm
village of co fruit in chad near the border with sedan. so i meant that the sudanese who are now refugees, right, because they've crossed this international border there in another country. how are they doing the terribly bad. like right now, none of them, hundreds of them are sleeping in the open range. i've started and many of them are telling us that they haven't eaten for us for the past few days and the situation is getting more and more desperate. yeah. fortunately enough, the age of 50. yeah, the world for program do not just nation high commissioner for refugees. just arrived this village which is just a few 100 meters away from the food and he's bored up. so basically what they're saying is that they don't have enough food to eat. and over the right behind me, hundreds of them i gathered as the united nation agencies are trying to distribute
4:17 pm
food items, just a few 100 tons of food items for hundreds and hundreds of suit. refugees across the border into china and desperately looking for shopped out, looking for accommodation, some of them looking for medicines to help their young children. i can tell you right now that most of the people we see women and children who look very anxious and which listen to a few of them who say they're not hopeful of returning to with that because she keeps getting desperate. and just like every now and half men address reporting some time. thank you so much. plenty more ahead on this news. our including also nora testifies results for president appears before federal police over his supporters attack on government buildings will be live from brazilian. also will tell you about the russian dancers still hoping to break into the parasol and fix next year.

ah. in the coming hour, the south korean president will be officially welcomed by us president joe biden at the white house. this is the 1st state visit to the us by south korean leader in 12 years. on tuesday, the 2 leaders paid tribute to the veterans of the korean war, or they'll be talking nuclear cooperation and efforts to counter north korea. kimberly hallett is also 0 white house correspondent, kimberly, at the center of this visit of this whole thing is a very, very strong message to north korea. put this in context for us evans, right. this message is really about showing the strength of the alliance that exists between south korea in the united states. and in fact, this is only the 2nd state visit, the joe biden has held, but it is marking the 70th anniversary of the alliance between south korea and the
4:19 pm
united states. and in a word, this is all about deterrence, as you know, in our viewers. no, it's no secret that north korea has stepped up. it's in testing, and it's missile testing in recent months and bad has made south korea particularly nervous, saying to the united states more needs to be done. as a result, the united states reassuring its ally, the 2 leaders will be on the front lot of the light white house, and they will be signing a joint declaration known as the washington declaration. what will it say? basically, what it will say is that the united states will, for the 1st time in 40 years, be docking its nuclear subs in south korea. that is a significant show of force. again, the know the jake sullivan, the national security advisor for the, by the ministration saying this is to reject straight to north korea. and in return, what south korea will be signing in this declaration is that it will not seek to
4:20 pm
acquire its own nuclear weapons. so in other words, it will continue to exist under the united states, so called nuclear umbrella. so that is what we can expect along with a joint press conference in the coming hours. kimberly how can reporting from the white house. thank you very much. ukrainian president holiday mir zalinski says that he's had his 1st on call with chinese president shooting pings is the beginning of the war in ukraine. the lensky described the conversation as long and meaningful. she met with russian president vladimir putin in moscow just last month . the beijing claims it is maintaining neutrality in the conflict. charles stratford is in keep charles any idea what was said during that call we're so far there's been very little detail from the ukrainian side, but there has been a loss of detail in a statement released by the chinese ministry of foreign affairs. and i'll just run
4:21 pm
you through some of the key points. president g commended zalinski for his a want for bilateral relations. the real emphasis though is on the wall. and so very interesting points made me said that sir, the ukraine crisis was evolving in a complex way with huge international ramifications. he said that china's coal stance is to facilitates a peaceful solution. it went into details as well about china's neutrality in this was something that beijing has been very keen to stress since the beginning. and it's widely considered that this 12 point plan that china put together and released in february was very much weighted in russia's favor and up until very recently has certainly been m not taken very seriously at whole by president zelinski. he refused to actually call it a piece plan at all. now, with reference to these kind of things,
4:22 pm
this press statement from beijing was saying that as china didn't create the ukraine crisis, nor is a polity to it. and is a huge, you insecurity council member, china will not sit idly by, nor would it do anything to fuel the fire of the conflicts or exploit the situation for any self gain. the statement also said that china wants a dialogue, negotiation as being the only viable way forward. and all relevant parties must stay calm and be rational. use restraint in thinking up the best ways of creating the conditions for some sort of meaningful dialogue to end this crisis. and he ended by saying that china will be sending a special representative, the special representative or new ration of phase to ukraine in the coming weeks and months. this is actually hugely significant because as you say, it is the 1st conversation that zelinski has had with g. of course, china is russia's em, most powerful ally and em,
4:23 pm
zelinski is, is not alone in with a lot of his western allies is being very distrustful of china's role in this war. so this seems to be a clear signal for beijing that they are seemingly very invested in, eventually finding the conditions for a peaceful solution to this war. and this really could be a significant development, charles stratford. thank you very much. if you get details from the ukrainian side on what was said during the call, you'll keep a surprise. charles, thank you. a jailed russian opposition leader alexander valley has called the latest case against him. absurd. he was in court on wednesday in the early stages of a new trial on extreme isn't charges. now he's already serving 11 years in a maximum security prison and says that all charges against him are politically motivated. now only was taken to hospital earlier this month, and his spokesperson says that she can't can't rule out. poisoning as the cause of his illness,

brazil's former president j. you're both scenarios testifying the federal police as part of an investigation into post election riots in january, thousands of balls in our supporters stormed government buildings after he lost the presidential vote. let's get on this from monica janek yet. who's live in brazil? ya, monica. this is a, this is a big day for the country. it's also a big day for both scenarios. political future, what do you expect to happen in court? well, so he arrived like a little over an hour ago, and he's testifying at the headquarters of the federal police, which is the building which is behind me. ah, he's being investigated for allegedly inciting the riots of january the 8th on january. the 8th are a little over a week after president wheezy nozzler, the silver took office full so now to supporters stormed out through the presidential palace. the supreme court and congress breaking everything,
4:25 pm
destroying things, and calling for a military coup to oust moolah, whom they say, had been a elected in a election, which they said had been rig. did there no proof that it had been reg, whatsoever. but this is something that bull sonata had stated before when he was president, that he was, he kept on doubting the system, the electronic voting system, which is in use in brazil for over 2 decades. and what they're investigating now is our he put a post on facebook 2 days after when he was already in the united states because he left before even handing over the presidential sash to lula. who went orlando and he posted something on facebook saying that the elections had been rigged, then he took it down 3 hours after. but basically, what the federal police and the judiciary system are investigating is that he is
4:26 pm
endorsing, ah, the rioters who have been saying that they were acting to stop a president from, from being a, from taking office since they thought the elections had been rigged. and monica is not the 1st time this month that lawson aro, saw the inside of a court room. what was that other investigation about? no, he on april the 5th, he was also here again at the federal police headquarters this time, ah, answering questions about him bringing back to brazil to kids of our expensive jewelry diamond julie, which was given to him by the saudi arabian government. now that whatever the, the option of it, there was something was done improperly because either he brought them in and did not declare them to the local i r s there for not paying taxes or they were meant
4:27 pm
for the presidential collection and they didn't end up there they were, sneaked into the country, so he's try it there. they're trying to investigate why he brought these 2 kids are very expensive. jewelry from saudi arabia, monica young, give in brazil. thank you so much. the spain and morocco or the sort of an extreme heat wave. here's rob with your weather update. that he's not already heard that there is a heat wave developing and to last a few days in spain and morocco. the 1st record has been broken. that was yesterday called about 34.8 beats its own record, but does not beat the national record. there was a whole to place in 2011 mercy recorded 37.4. now it seems likely we might get close to or even beat that in seville during wednesday. this is the hottest
4:28 pm
phosphate any year to be honest, but mirth is not going to beat it. if i take you had another day to thursday, we're up to 39. almost certainly would have beaten it by then. it might of course, create a new record. if you come across the water, you've got a good clue from this course. morocco is also involved. tangiers recorded 34.8, a new record for n g. then i may not seem particularly high because we took it north africa. but this record was broken by nearly 6 degrees. that should not happen. that is a huge way to leap ahead of your existing record that we may well find that marrakech does something similar a forecast of 44 this afternoon. the $39.00 is the standing record. marrakech will stay that hot until the saturday, then cool. a little rob, thanks very much. still ahead on al jazeera fears grow about the health of u. s. lender 1st republic as investors appear to lose trust in the struggling bank

but some are having problems crossing borders without permits. so sarah, sitting mohammed is sidney's british, and her father is missing in cartoon. she joins us from manchester. sarah, thank you for joining the program. tell us your story. what happened? oh, well basically, my dad left on sunday the 23rd from our family house and undermine would, i mean, he was on his way to cartoon to which is where our house is to get some important documents and medication. and after we heard that, they were exactly what we called him like 4 26 pm and he sounded absolutely fine. he felt like anything was wrong with him. and then we contacted him since our family and undermine. haven't heard from him. he had to come back and our family and neighbors in court to to are also looking for him and
4:32 pm
looking out. he'll come but he also hasn't come back home. so we haven't heard of him since. i'm sorry, i'm 1st of all, i'm so sorry to hear that ah, what has happened since sunday? what have you been doing? we have just been posting on my and there's a lot of people that were exploring extremely help because i don't even know people that don't even know my dad sitting these people. they're out on the ground looking for him. they're literally look risking their lives. look for my dad. i'm sorry. what do you mean when you say you've been posting online? i, i assume you mean that you said maybe twitter or other social media that your father was missing than what happened? nothing. nothing has happened since a lot of people on track to people when they're looking no, nothing to haven't found anything. basically, we posted the car who was driving. it was my cars. i had pictures of the license plate and no one seen the car. no. and seen him,
4:33 pm
nothing at all. we called every single contract on his phone. and no one's heard anything. he thought he might be hiding at someone's house, but don't know the area that he left or the area that he was going to with those areas of heavy fighting. yeah. both of them, both of them have actually been evacuated now. cartoon too, is already evacuated from like the 1st or 2nd day for the place he was staying and i'm good. a man has also been evacuated now and currently like right now there's very heavy fire there. what's your twitter handle? i will, i just want to put this out there in case anybody can help with your twitter handle . my twitter handle is sarah city to under scores. and so far you're saying over the last 4 days there has been, you've heard nothing from your father and nothing from the people from people on

4:36 pm
republic have plunged to a record low. it's share price dropped nearly 50 percent on news. the depositors withdrew at least a $100000000000.00 in the 1st quarter. last month's collapse of silicon valley bank and signature bank cause the biggest crisis of confidence in the banking sector since 2008. 0, particle, hain, jones, we live from washington, d. c. patty. we saw last month that the fed and other banks were willing to dig deep into their pockets to stop the bank panic. do you think they're going to big even deeper now? well, that's what it gave officials. the 1st republican hoping for the argument is give us money now or risk a broader contagion to the banking system. and we have seen, since you mentioned those 2 smaller regional bank, spelled, we have seen money pouring out of regional bank into the bigger bank. so as you mentioned, 1st republic stock is down, down about $88.10 yesterday. it's down at 13 percent more in the market trading.
4:37 pm
just to give you some perspective. i looked back about a year ago. it was trading at a $157.00 a share. but all of that, as you mentioned, the $100000000000.00 outflow from the bank. now they made that up with loans from the federal reserve, but obviously deposits are a much better thing for a bank to have been pretty heavy loans to their reports. that yes, once again, they're going to go back to the big bank that had already given them $30000000000.00 to try and shore up its balance sheet. so they're going to go back to the big base and say, okay, now we need you to buy bonds at a loss, 1st of public bonds at a loss. if not, we could fail. and then you could see even more regional banks fail. and that could affect the broader banking system. so fed officials here at, in this building are watching the stock market closely. as you know, these things can happen very quickly. so will be seen probably some action in the day ahead. just depending on what the it does, but it is a big concern to the fed. they are tied to stem inflation. to do that,

they've been raising interest rates now. of banks are collapsing, that's going to affect their plan. so it will have a broader implication, not just for the u. s. economy, but for the world academy as well. so, very tense situation right now for that bank 1st republic, we should see possibly actually been coming hours when a petty calhane in washington. thank you very much. a japanese company i space says it's unmanned space craft probably crashed in an attempt to touch down on the surface of the moon. communications with the craft were lost to just at the moment of the plan. the landing and engineers have not been able to re establish contact. fenton monahan has more. at this moment, we have been not able to conform successful rounding on data in us office. it's not the outcome japanese firm ice space was hoping for. he is, it wanted to be the 1st private company to complete a successful lunar landing. but despite the setback, i space is optimistic. the journey began in december. miss space ex falcon,

from bristol. elizabeth, the moon is not exactly a new space frontier. we know we can get there. why are we seeing all this increased moon activity recently? is that all business? there is definitely an element of business in the last decade or so. there has been an absolute explosion of private space flight companies. partly because there's much more of an interest in people wanting to employ their services. people want to put up more satellites and so on. but also as nasa and china particularly started looking towards going to the moon, i'm going to the moon on a much more permanent basis. that was when the sort of private companies really started looking into to being able to help facilitate that. and that's when we started seeing this absolute, massive research, it's an interest in the moon again. and why? why do nasa and china want to go to the moon? and what's this, what was the permanent basis that you're talking about?
4:42 pm
well, one of the biggest things that reasons that people want to go to the man is up to k and nasa case is they really want to set up some kind of permanent base either in the orbit on the surface or some kind of mixture of both because the main serves as a really great staging area, if you want to send missions, particularly human missions, further out into the solar system. so if they're ever going to send a human to mars, they're probably going to need to spend some time on the moon 1st. so that's one of the reasons why people have really been taking interest in kind of laying claim to, to this area. and also as, as i said earlier, there are some, some resources on the moon that people are looking for. things like helium 31 of the big ones is actually water. because water, you can turn into rocket feel. so that's one of the reasons why people are really interested in it. as we said, just before you came on these of typically, historically been government led government funded programs when it comes to the
4:43 pm
space race, right. why are we seeing so many private fits involved? well, particularly in the u. s. and it's actually masters sort of modus operandi to create help support american businesses. so it, a lot of the work that is done at nasa is actually contracted out to businesses. and as nasa grows bigger and has big emissions, it was able to support these companies and make new companies. but also, as i said, we've got lots of people trying to put satellites up into orbit and there's, there's thousands and thousands of satellites going into orbit every year. i think it's due to double the number of satellites and over this year. and that's helping these companies who want to do more ambitious things like go to the moon, go to mars. it's that supports them to be able to develop the skills and generate the funding that they need to be able to do these bigger enterprises. right. so nasa wants to nurture this sort of ecosystem that is going to advance their or her
4:44 pm
moon ambitions. you hinted earlier that the u. s. and china and of the moon race is a new venue for competition between the u. s. and china. yes, absolutely. there's as much as people like to, to say that the efforts in space are completely neutral than not. it's always been very much driven by politics. you can see that right back to the space age. and that has been a bit of conflict between nasa and china and in the realm of space specifically. now there is actually not allowed to work with any kind of chinese company on any of their projects. and neither are any of your contract is working on an emissions . so there is definitely a, an aspect of that, it's not quite the same as the 1960 soviet space, right? because china and the us are in completely different places in their journey into the space. but there is definitely a sort of that, that definitely paying attention to what each other is doing. all right,

which is read as well as blue year at the united press conference earlier is half of the city very nervous about manchester city, potentially repeating united's 1999 treble. yet i think it certainly stands the weekend when am both city united got through to the affair comp file. i think, i think from that point on it became clear that the treble was a potential for city, you know, had been kind of not really spoken about before. and that does give united fans trepidation because one united the only team that still in the treble this one, the lee, the a fake up in the champions league before. and that was in 1999. that's the one thing that united funds of held over city em when city funds remind them of their recent success. so they've never done it before. am so they'll be, well, you know, they'll be very yeah, you know, that they're ready to do it now to, to pull that to burden some on the line that dominance, sir, in, in this city of the last few few years. it's going to be
