to do short documentary spine african filmmakers. and that's going to be the special for the taste of the sun from madagascar and football from new series of africa direct on which is the the okay, where you live now to boston, where the u. s. coast guard is holding, we're bound to hold a press conference on that. missing some muscle that was last contact on it's dive to titanic separate on sunday. that's listed in to the u. s. coast guard. okay, good afternoon everyone. thank you so much for being here today. today we'll be
8:01 pm
hosting another press briefing to discuss any updates regarding the search and rescue case for the submersible tight, and that's located approximately 900 nautical miles off shore. in the vicinity of the rest of the titanic. today we will have speaking captain frederick response coordinator of the 1st coast guard district. you'll be giving a brief statement followed by about 10 minutes for questions and answers. thank you so much again. let me please introduce captain frederick the good afternoon, everyone of captain jamie frederick with 1st coast guard district. i'll provide an update on our ongoing search efforts with the title summary behind me or site me, i should say. are you see several subject matter experts from the unified command to introduce themselves a momentarily?
8:02 pm
are these individuals represent only a small fraction of the many dedicated professionals working around the clock on this complex response effort? we understand there's an extremely difficult time for the families of the missing crew members aboard to tie in in our thoughts, go out to them and the crew. the unified command team is working tirelessly to bring all available assets and expertise to bear as quickly as possible in response to this complex operation that we remain in close contact with the family members and the crew to ensure they are fully aware of our current and future search efforts. additionally, we've been in close contact with the british and french consulates general to ensure that they are fully appraise our efforts. and we are ensuring that their concerns are being addressed. we are incredibly grateful for the full spectrum of international assistance that has been provided, including an expert. so a mariner from the royal navy was here with us uh serving a board is
8:03 pm
a critical member of our team. additionally, a team of highly trained french, r o b operators depart at st. john's last night or in route to aid the search. moreover, our canadian partners have been providing critical leadership and significant response capability since the beginning of our efforts. again, this is an incredibly complex search operation, requiring both the surface and sub surface elements. and our unified approach is critical. the location of the search 900 miles east to cape cod, in 400 miles southeast saint john's makes it exceptionally difficult to mobilize large amounts of equipment quickly. in spite of those challenges, we've been able to provide continuous air and surface search assets, as well as additional r o v capability searched below the surface. we currently have 5 service assets searching for the type in the we expect 10 total service assets to search in the next 24 to 48 hours. there are 2 are of these actively searching and several more
8:04 pm
are in route will arrive by tomorrow morning. we received incredible support with aviation assets, from our coast guard air station in elizabeth city, the air national guard and canadian armed forces. today there are 2 back to back p 3 flights. uh, one is ongoing now as i speak, totally 14 hours a continuous on seeing coverage and to see 130 flights. uh, also one on going now uh, throughout the day and end of the evening. yesterday, the canadian p 3 detected underwater noises in the search area. as a result of the operations were relocated in an attempt to explore the origin of the noises. although the r o v searches have yielded negative results, they continue. additionally, the data from the p 3 aircraft has been shared with our u. s. navy experts for further analysis, which will be considered and future search plans. the surface search is now
8:05 pm
approximately 2 times the size of connecticut. and the sub surface search is up to 2 and a half miles deep. exponentially expanding the size of the search area. we also have to factor in the ever changing weather conditions, currents, and see states that expand the search area every hour. there's an enormous complexity associated with this case, due to location being so offshore, so far off shore, and the coordination between multiple agencies and nations. we greatly appreciate the outpouring of support and offers to provide additional equipment. the unified command continues to prioritize assets and resources in order to provide the best capability and the most timely manner. this includes weighing multiple factors to identify the most effective resources available to the response operation or with careful consider needs consideration, the timeliness of equipment, arriving on seeing, usefulness and ability to deliver assets and source area. over the past 48 hours, we have through incredible unity of effort, mobilize and implemented
8:06 pm
a tremendous amount of expertise and response capability. in addition to the ships and aircraft previously mentioned, we've dispatched to subject matter experts from u. s. navy labs, the supp solve for will serve as sort coordinators on scene for underwater search operations. so i've been stressing unity of effort a lot in this statement, and that's because it is absolutely critical to this complex operation. again, our thoughts and prayers are with the crew, with a tie in their loved ones. we will continue to work as hard and as quickly as possible in an effort to locate them. i will take a few questions um, but before i do that i do want to i'm gonna have each of the members the team here, just introduce themselves and i'll go ahead and, and take some questions. thanks. good afternoon. i'm paul hankens. i'm the director for salvage operations with the us navy's supervisor and salvage hello. i'm carol hartsville from the woods, whole ocean of graphic institute. i get off in on the think about the rich got,
8:07 pm
sorry, i'm an exchange, i'll say currently 7 on the stuff and components of range that lots to get know fit between you. good afternoon, lieutenant commander christy butler, working closely with captain frederick from r. c. c. boston search and rescue mission coordinator. thank you. so a couple of days one, i think when you're in the middle of a search invest in case you always have hope that's. that's why we're doing what we do with respect to the noises specifically. we don't know what they are to be frank with you. we they the p 3 detected noises. that's why they're up there. that's why they're doing what they're doing. that's why they put so in our bodies, in the water. the good news is what i can tell you was were searching in the area where the noises were detected and will continue to do so. and we,
8:08 pm
we hope that when we're able to get additional our of user to be there in the morning, the intent will be to continue to search in those areas where the noise were detected if they're continued to be detected. and then put additional are of these down to the last known position where the search was originally taken place. i hadn't heard a 30 minute intervals. what it so here's what i can tell you. we. so i am not a trained here for underwater aquatics. that's why we have a team of experts that are analyzing that data. that data was sent immediately to uh, to the navy last night and it was analyzed overnight. they're still looking at it, but i can tell you that it's, it's inconclusive. but again, i think the important piece is we're searching in the area where the noise or to the fact that the amount of the timeline. i'm like, it's a timeline what respect, how much actually? oh, okay. all right, so well, in terms of us,
8:09 pm
so we talked about the auction number, i think you're all tracking the option number. i think there's an important point with that though, the oxygen that, that, that's just one piece of data right there. there are a lot of pieces of data that we need to consider and you know, we're continuously looking at that and we'll continuously, you know, do that throughout the search. but that's not the only thing that's important, right? and right now our efforts are, are slowly for focus on search. um that certainly is a dialogue that's happening. but, but we're focused on searching at this point. okay, so you've been listening to the u. s. coast guard jamie frederick giving an update in boston in the us on the search. and you mentioned the shoot complex search operation, pulled up, missing something simple that has not been heard from it since sunday. after it went down to explore the racks of the titanic in the north atlantic with 5 people on board, on correspondents. deborah is on the. is that press conference?
8:10 pm
the no new news from the us coast guard, gabriel? he was questions of quite a lot about the noise is that has been heard in the past 12 hours. yeah, that's right. it was a little bit of a glimmer of hope if you will. when a canadian airplane that was circling over the area was able to pick up some sort of noises or pings if you will, that they thought perhaps could have been being given off by the missing submersible. but as you just heard there from the coastal guard official, he said that in his words, we don't know what those noises really were. the coast guard did send additional assets to the area around where those noise signals were being picked up from thinking that perhaps it was radiating from the missing sub, missing a vessel. but they said they found nothing, but they continued to look in that area. so beyond that though, was what we're hearing is from the coast guard is that more assets are being sent
8:11 pm
to the area. uh, this general search area which is a huge area in the middle of the north atlantics see more plains more uh vessels as well motoring there in the next bit and should be arriving in the next 12 to 24 hours. okay, gabriel money, thanks for keeping us across. the latest developments the on that search and rescue operation game is on the reporting from boston. the one palestinian has been shot dead in a village, but it's being attacked by is wally sapaulas. hundreds of attackers have set fire to policy being caused on properties and if it's of time to say a 12 people have been injured on tuesday for his way. these were killed near the illegal sacrament of alley high force. it is following developments inside the village of time is that any occupied westbank?
8:12 pm
this is right. and how does the village, the settlers came through from this main artery into the heart of the town? is another severely damaged house over the more causes that have been done to out and all 4 houses were really badly damaged by $525.00 houses in total of being damaged, either by fire or by vandalism, of one kind or another. and as you're saying 12 now concerned, injured, one person killed one person critical. i'm here with the dual outcome. i like many people here. you are a us citizen who is spend some time here. you live in the united states and you'll hear on what does it essentially kind of a family summer holiday. now you come back to this? yes. uh, so uh stocking, but we come to the violence when we're trying to enjoy your summer vacation here in our home. our, my parents, my parents were born and raised and we get this rude awakening. and, and a call of some vicious attack from somebody, settlers from the side of the town,
8:13 pm
you know, getting ready to eat lunch with here and on the intercom. and so once we came and found out and solve videos, because a lot of these homes have cameras, turns out to be groups of 50 or 6, the settlers attacking with weapons with rocks burning homes, burning cars. everything they passed by was being burned and they even insert some of these homes with, with weapons and, and burned themselves with quickly rushed. the 1st priority was to save the kids, save the the mother, the women, and get them out of the house. a lot of them have to wonder themselves and home in order to, you know, not get fired at by the settlers. what we've had attacks before, but never to this extent, never this viciously never with, with uh, uh, you know, a vengeance to, to, to destroy and,
8:14 pm
and actually kill people of this town. thank you. i've done, i'm just one of the brief instances of what happened to you today. another us citizen, also kind of city and citizen of this town, was telling us how his mother and his 8 year old son had to hide out in a sort of a garage room while his family home burned. and he was separated from them by this, this gang of attackers, and felt entirely powerless. luckily for him, they managed to get out well, some of the clashes were still going on. so that is the level of jeopardy and trepidation that people have here off to this most severe attack they say that they've ever seen in a place which has been subject to many of 16 people are in hospital after a gas explosion in paris. sent several buildings on fire, 7 of them in a critical condition of lost in the cities. 5th districts close. the facade of one building to collapse. firefights is on the scene,

baffling the flames while please trying to keep people away when a tasha butler joins us now. live from the scene and powers and the talk to you or as close as you're able to get that. what can you see on the yes was very close to where that building collapse. i mean no one around me. all people who i'm mainly trying to get back to that repub, instead of near the collapse building police are keeping them away because it is still a very dangerous situation. they all think they're all still a risks until the area secure. they don't want to leave those people to go down the street. you probably see them that some police officers are talking to a residence to a quite shocked and shaken of course, because what happened was it was about 5 o'clock local time when there was a very loud explosion. i was actually very close to this area. i heard the explosion. it wasn't clear what it was, it sounded like a sony boom. but then shortly off to a smoke rose into the people to about the windows of their apartments made by
8:16 pm
a shaking, and they saw flames. because not only one buildings collapse, but that will all those that then caught on fire. we know about the building, the collapse 6 pills at the powers american academy. it is apparently a flashing school. we understand that that probably was any students in there at the time, but again, we don't really have all the details, but what police all say is it looks as if this could have been a gas exposure, but other causes are not being moved out from now. and we know that 16 people have been injured at least 16 people because we've done that, they'll be all those uh, but at least off of those all in a critical condition. and that'd be a huge response to this, a people by quickly on the scene, a large number of firefighters and police of the day and days because, you know, we all, in the best center of power points in the up scale area. the 5th around the small,
8:17 pm
near the very famous locks and but gotten about 5 o'clock when this happened. people of course, are starting to leave work. children are leaving school people, parents are picking up the children from the question of very busy area. well, 7 areas is popular with taurus, so this is a sort of thing. voters happens in that area. what people are very shake and very short because those are very residential area. a lot of people may see power as is of a densely populated city. so apartment blocks, apartment buildings full of people and many times as i said here, wondering exactly what is going on and all the people nearby at the same as i said, heard. and so this smoke, i mean, some of the images that have come out shortly from off to smoke, just filling up the city. for some people remind me, even though when no time was on 5, few years ago, we haven't seen that sort of smoke rise above the capital for many years. gosh, i butler joining us to live from the scene of that explosion several hours ago. natasha, thanks very much. i so it has hair on out. as sarah rebuilding
