a one on one a is to investigate sirius lean from one out to 0. we don't simply focus on the politics of the conflict. if the human suffering victory reports on pre brave bullets in bonds and we always include the views from all sides, the the u. s coast guard says arrive on searching for a missing submersible in the north atlantic is found the field of debris, the until the cry this adult is there. a lie from doha. also coming up a andy as prime minister, it is on the site visits of the us, but human rights advocates. the criticizing president trump biden's decision to

welcome him through the white house. brazil was from the president chapel scenario . it goes on trial for the abuse of power in the case that has some funding for his political future. plus, i'm jump shut off with us outside the costs of refugee camp north of athens, where i've been talking to the survivors of a ship reg earlier this month. that may have drowned hundreds of asylum seekers. the, the u. s. coast guard says an underwater, really, both searching for missing submersible has discovered the debris fields near the wreckage of the titanic. the vessel with 5 people on board disappeared on sunday, and the north atlantic drawing a dive to the rick. let's go straight to gabriel. alexander, who was in boston with the licensed and guy bought more, can you tell us about this debris field of us found
8:02 pm
the coast guard announcing this about one hour ago that they found a debris field. it's important that to a degree field, not necessarily the debris field. this was found near the search area at the bottom of the ocean. they say near where the titanic wreckage is at. and they say they are now analyzing this debris field because they cannot yet any way. uh, absolutely confirm that this is the debris field of the missing titan submersible. but presumably, uh, coast guard and navy officials and researchers are analyzing these images of this debris field to see if in fact it is from the missing submersible or not. there's certainly a lot of debris at the bottom of the ocean, especially more than 3 kilometers down to the bottom where this is that. so they have to be very careful when they analyze this. but it's clear that they have found something and this very well could be keyword could be the break through that
8:03 pm
they've been looking for trying to find this missing some are some of it's been missing since sunday in good. what does this mean for the rest of the search and rescue mission, especially given that the oxygen was thought to have run out to a number of hours ago. now, a while this has been a search and rescue mission since sunday. and now if in fact is debris field turns out to be from the missing titan, this would now be a search and recovery mission. clearly if there's debris at the bottom of the ocean that deep, that would mean of course, no survivors. and so now they're potentially shifting now in an analyzing this debris field confirming if in fact it is from the tight and, and if it is, then it's a matter of recovery,
8:04 pm
recover as much of that debris as they can to begin a long and tedious investigation to figure out what exactly went wrong to cause this potential uh, catastrophic malfunction that caused this to go disappearing. and, and, and half of this mishap. the coast guard will be holding a press conference here in boston. and about 2 hours time. they usually hold that at about 1 o'clock about an hour ago, but they've postponed it presumably because coast guard officials are trying to get as much facts as they can about this debris field that they've found. so they can give them most updated information. clearly this was the, the debris field was found by r o v, a remotely operated deep sea vehicle. there's one from france in canada that began diving deep into the depths to search the bottom of the ocean around the search area. this morning on thursday morning. and it was one of these remotely operated
8:05 pm
the deep sea vehicles that apparently made this discovery of potentially this debris field from the missing type. okay, thank you so much and is gabrielle mentioned that we will uh, cross through that press conference that as and when it happens it's gabrielle alexander for us in boston or what's other use? an indian prime minister and the french ramadi is in the u. s. on the states visits president joe biden has welcome to the white house, but the trip is being seen as an attempt to improve relations despite disagreements of the ukraine and human rights. deals on technology and defense cooperation are expected to be signed during his visits and muddy is also set to address a joint meeting of the us congress along the way that the relationship you choose united states india is one of that will be one of the defining relationships of the 21st century. true proud nation to proud nations whose love of freedom secured our independence by the same words our constitution. first 3

words, we the people during ties insured writers between our people. and the shared responsibility is global leaders to tackle the great issues of our time together. we're expecting a press conference with by then embody shortly, but 1st we're going to go to white house correspondent, kimberly how could, who joins us now in complete spite and trying to retrieve through this full state visit with all the pomp and ceremony that comes with this as well, really 2 things. the 1st is a bit of a checked on china and so there are going to be a number of deals that will be announced in order to try and accomplish that. the 1st being a trade as well as defense deals. there will be a number of announcements with respect to that. and you will be purch hearing a number of defense of acquiring if in fact some c, guardian,
8:07 pm
drones, there will be a purchasing of new semi conductor testing and packaging units. and also we know that the us will be announcing some, using a visa restrictions, allowing for indian workers to come to the united states. that will be part of those announcements. this is all sort of the easing of the supply chain, if you will, in order to increase some of that economic back and forth, then that is to really counter some of the might that we've seen with china and, and then also to really counter some of the growing strengths that we've seen of russia with respect to its invasion of youth crane. and there has been some concern that india has become increasingly cosy with russia, particularly the fact that it's abstained. the united nations on really coming down hard on russia and its invasion of ukraine and those votes of the united nations.
8:08 pm
and that has been a concern to the us presidents and so at the oval office in the bilateral meeting in the last hour or so. there have been discussions about badge, but also the fact that the us president believes this is really a pivotal time in the global stage in terms of the battle between the talk proceeds and democracies. and so he has been talking about that as well with the indian prime minister. so these are some of the conversations that are being had. they will also likely be part of the conversation as the press conference, the joint press conference that is about to be held in the white house very shortly will be taking place. there will be questions that will be coming from both the indian press as well as the us press and we should foretell it's very rare for the new prime minister to hold a press conference. so it is a bit of a victory given some of his crackdowns on press freedom inside his own country. and just on that, not everyone is happy with this visit that can you explain who's opposed to it and
8:09 pm
why? a yeah, members of the president's own democratic party don't like the fact that he is getting a very warm welcome here in the united states. he's getting a state dinner, which is quite a big honor here in the united states. and he's going to be addressing a joint session of congress and to underscore just what a privilege that is. there's only one other world leader during the bite and presidency that has been bestowed that honor uh, to have that double honor if you will. and that is the leader of south korea. and it shows just how important this relationship is to the united states. but many in the democratic party say this is just not ok, given the fact that it's never under body has not only cracked on the press freedoms in this country. but it's also been particularly hard on muslims in his country and has outright persecuted them. and so as a result,
8:10 pm
75 members of the house and the senate have sent a letter to protest this uh to the us president. and when there is a joint session of congress and he addresses the coming hours, the 3 members of the president's federal credit party will be boycotting that speech to show their displeasure. so again, not very happy, and there are protests that are being held not only in lafayette park, just outside the white house, but we expect there will be protesters outside the us congress as well, voicing their displeasure in the coming hours. okay, we will keep an eye on that. thank you so much. that is white house correspondent, kimberly hook it for us. and as kimberly mentioned, we are expecting a news conference from the 2 liters very shortly. we will bring that to you as soon as it begins in the united states is it is a joining talks on the conflict. and so don, because the goals and not being met, and american delegation has been holding tools and judo with a team from saudi arabia that helped brokers several seats funds between. so don

saw me in the rapid support forces. the advising has continued despite the truce deals for the move and has moved from of the months for the mediators. saudi arabia and the united states were talking to the 2 sides, the sudanese army and the power military rapids support forces trying to get them to agree to a new c fire for the muslim holiday of evil as ha. but now that the tough are suspended, it's not fair if such these fire would be happening. now during the last the fire which came into effect on monday and ended on wednesday, the facilitates has made it very clear that they should be no violations from either side or top in the 3050. okay? the would be agend. that's included, no military movement from either side, no 5 to just flying overhead, no s right, and no arts and they were selling, especially in residential areas. now, while during the 3 days of ceasefire residency that they were not able to hear heavy artillery or fight take that's like overhead. they say that the permanent to use rapid workforce is expanded on the ground. and for many people to leave their

homes and properties of gun points that's of expanding their present in many parts of the capital. no residents, when we offer them, what did these things that stops would be suspended permanently, or a one to talk to review, activate mostly holiday or either that's how people were divided. some say that they wanted to see a ceasefire come into effect, but they also do not want that rapid support course of extending territorially or forcing them out of their homes. and others say that they want a military solution. so right now, so the need in the capital and other parts of the country are divided on whether they should be a ceasefire or where the other 5 says continue between the parent military rapids support forces and pacific needs army. meanwhile, it's not clear if the tasks are permanent permanent, suspended in the $5.00 to $60.00, okay? or if they would receive once again. and if the $25.00 would actually reach an agreement, that would end the pricing here in sedan. morgan algebra, i'm the man, the

brushing appointed officials in her soul in crime is a ukrainian missile. and sort of bridge connecting the 2 regions. the chunk of bridge is known as the gates to crimea, the dresser annex in 2014. the crime is governess, is the bridge was struck by a british storage shed or missile on tuesday. russia's defense minister said ukrainian forces were planning to attack crimea with nice or supplied weapons. la hush and has been monitoring developments from the area pope and south east and ukraine. this bridge, i know the 2 bridges that on this. all right, the roots from the sun towards the korean peninsula and the being used also for as a supply route for the army. and for most people who uh, go from from the 1st side to the 2nd side. this was, this was before, before the, what the russian school, the special operation and the, the,
8:14 pm
the targeting of this bridge today as for the russian officials might have also affected. i know other know that there's no classification in this regard. but one of the russian officials who posted on telecom about the news of the head think of the, the, the, the, the bridge said that bridges were affected. now we know that there are 3 bridges that i'm, this is the sharpest way from headphone to watch. uh, cream. yeah, it's also the, the shortest way from ukraine to are doing yes. and body pull the cities of yeah, it's got body port. so this is the importance of, of this bridge. and they the, the main issue now is that. busy the russians have decided, as we understood to divert the root store, all the other ways in order to repair the ridge of that it's being affected by the like. this try to,
8:15 pm
to use it. the central bank has almost doubled the main interest ride from ice and a half percent to 15 percent. it's the 1st rise in 2 years and versus one of presidents for each of the type of other ones. main policies. the increase is aimed at causing the cost of goods and the official inflation, right. that's what the 85 percent last year. but it's since ease to just on to 40 percent. the bank of england has also raised its key interest rate is going up by half of percentage points to 5 percent. the bank is trying to tackle high inflation, but it could make the cost of living crisis in person with whom vicky price is the chief economic adviser at the center for economics and business research. she is also a full met. you cannot make advisor to the u. k. government, she joins us from london. thank you very much for being on al jazeera. i guess. first of all, what's the reaction pain to the u and the u. k. 2, this high can do you think it was needed at this point in time? well, it was a bit of a surprise for most people because democracy had expected originally just,
8:16 pm
it's been defined. a basis points increase is that we got a 50 basis points increase the hosp percent, which meant really the bank of england was trying to indicate that it was serious about controlling inflation. given that it has been criticized quite a lot for raising raised for such a long period of time. and yet having very little impact on bringing down inflation as fast as perhaps some of the countries of minors to do like the us and, and number of spaces in the you. that's what i wanted to ask you about next because you are countries around the world are trying to tackle the rising inflation. i mean, is rising, rising interest rate is the best way to do it. and i mean, is it actually working here in this, in this circumstance? it's, it's a very difficult question to answer in the site because there are different circumstances in each country. so in the u. k, we've been hit by the facts that so breaks it has meant that we lost loads of workers in particular areas, sectors which are now seeing quite thrilled dumont and wage pressures such as
8:17 pm
hospitality tourism leisure, more generally retail. so that's basically what's going on in terms of when they, the areas of the economy, which are a growing and be having more most pressures in terms of prices. and of course, wages have cost quite low. does that in addition to energy. so we have that impact the 2nd one is just the u. k. has been a bit slow in coming forward with support on the energy front. for example, the very beginning of the problems of after the war and ukraine instead of cent price is up to significantly energy prices or them gas on all the countries stepped in a little earlier with semi subsidize in price is if you like. and also what has happened in quite a lot of european countries as i have been either wanting pre own mandatory controls on food prices. or we have ment again, so even though quick price to still increase quite a bit, people's inflation expectations when considerably lower in the number of places in
8:18 pm
the u. k. they were very high. i mean, we were costing inflation of 18 percent just the last september and, and that was the reason, worries. so wages obviously started increasing people's side of the marketing a lot more and we have strikes we still have yeah. so it's a bit of a different structure and that's why i think we're a bit stuck right now. okay, i just want to briefly ask you about 2 key. i mean, today that i almost doubled the main interest, right? what effect is that going to have? i don't think it's probably the right move. the thing, what we have seen in the past is that a turkey had been, well if he likes the bank had been almost forced to reduce the interest rates, unhealthy economy grow, and that of course has cost a huge inflation and considerable concern about the exchange rate i think what we seeing right now is a return to more rational policies is what everyone is describing, what just going on and talking now with people who are very well respected, taking control of the finances and also of the,
8:19 pm
of the central bank. and i think that's pretty good news from that point of view, but it is going to be painful for pataki, like it is a thing for others to get back to some sort of room ality so far we have seen some reduction selection. that's good news and i'm assuming that what we can see now is perhaps a little bit more vacuum is though, i think the exchange rates would probably forward a little bit. so now we tend to bring information out. but overall, i think it's heading in the right direction, but we slow a growth as a result. yeah, of course i just want to ask you also about the chance of a global recession here. is that being saved officer fiber or is this? so the potential for best but we were talking at the beginning about interest rates, and of course we just mentioned turkey of interest rates are still going up in most places. not necessarily in china, which is just reduce some of its rates. and there is a worry that perhaps the increase that we've seen right now is over dumb. so it might indeed lead to slow down in growth by considerable one and maybe even
8:20 pm
recession in some places. obviously not globally because there are still countries doing well. and we'll do well, particularly in developing world, but there are concerns both in the u, what's gonna happen there, and also of course in the u. k. and although in things i'm not looking dot bought in in the us uh, the fact that the federal reserve stopped or pause interest rate increases suggest to us old that perhaps they're worried about moving doing it to make the banking crisis resurfacing. so um, yeah, there are concerns about recession. oh yeah. across the glove. okay. i guess of this trend does continue, the interest rates keep on pricing. i mean, what does this do for the, the average person? i mean, how much more pain can they take as well? it's pretty bad because real disposable incomes have gone down so many, especially in the u. k. for example, where, what tax the civil so going up. but what we're seeing is that inflation is coming down and the for some of the pressures that people,
8:21 pm
hospitals depend on reducing quite considerably so. so that's good news. and employment has stayed well, a rather unemployment has been quite low. in fact, in europe, less the, the level is less is lower than it was pre fund. demik is knowing that he's been in a very long period of time. so. so the awesome good news and uh, individuals are still employed, aren't able to spend. and now with inflation coming down so significantly in some countries, no, yes, in the you k so much. and then you're seeing that perhaps some of those, uh, the thing comes wages will move to being positive at some point to the future. easing a bit of pressure with up interest rates will also come down to shift come down. so i'm reasonable domestic about that, but it is going to take some time to unwind. i'm sure many people watching this will be hoping that it happens sooner rather than later. thank you so much again for your time and your inside. that is vicki. price chief economist, economic advisor at the center for economics and business research. thank you. you

have a trial for brazil's phone the president has begun. shy of both scenarios is accused of abusing his power by claiming the electrical system that could be rigs and using public funds to spread fake news. like a you got a key if has more from the cost in brasilia as well. it is a very serious trial because it will define somehow, results political few trouble. so now it is still a very popular figure among conservatives. and he would have been a strong contender against current president losing nashville, ruled at us to the in next year's elections. he gave an interview yesterday where he said that it was not fair that he had just had a meeting with the masters, or that he just said what he thought. that's not what the accusation says. they say that he had a meeting in the middle of a campaign, it was broadcasted on national television. it was uh, it went on all social media, thousands of people heard that he was actually stating that the system,
8:23 pm
the voting system could be read the elections. uh, the results could be a fraud and he presented absolutely no evidence to back this up. so they say they're accusing of a spreading fake news. he's still a strong political figure, and they're hoping that he will help elect more conservatives in congress and in the cities and elsewhere in brazil. place and the u. k. have arrested in egyptian citizen, accused of smuggling thousands of people across the mediterranean is also linked to the migrant boats that sank off the coast of greece last week. killing 82 people, flags about pucca sounds, problem in the house, our hawk mazda, and on the of those who dies. more than 200 of the passengers were from pakistan. police, they have a rest of 29 people. they say with human smugglers connected to the case. jonesboro police, is that a refugee santa and mal acosta?

he has more from the survivors of the cap sized box to some of the testimony we've heard the witness testimony from people we've been talking to today. confirms that tragically, there were many minors in the hold of the ship. one of the people we spoke to talked about a 100 young people, mostly teenagers, and mostly from syria boys and girls. somebody else we spoke to talked about even younger children, 3 or 4 or 5 years old. and apparently there was 6 syrian mothers accompanying some of those children. others were traveling with cousins, uncles, and fathers. as you know, only men survived this rec, presumably because the women and children were, as has now been confirmed to us below decks. some people say that they were at the bottom of the ship and the hold. others told us that they were on the 2nd level,
8:25 pm
immediately below the top deck. they may have been divided into 2 groups. but the question of whether the coast guard played a role in the thinking of this trula still remains somewhat blurry. because one of the people we spoke to believes that there was no tow rope attached to the troll before it capsized that it did so because its engine had failed and the lack of full wood motion caused the ship to sway from side to side. much more violently than it had been, but that it had been doing so throughout the 5 great day of voyage, simply because it was overloaded, it seems that the engine failure was the final blow and that that side to side motion simply became too great and the weight, weight of people shifted inside the ship once the that motion had become too great
8:26 pm
to another witness. how is that? who survives this rec? tells us that there had been a tow rope attached to the great coast guard. offered it in order to help these people reach shore and then cut herself uh before reaching the show. because the coast guard was apparently afraid that the tow was causing the ship just way side to side so violently. but after that roof was cut off its way even more. so we have conflicting testimonies in this and this is going to be, i think, the central topic of the supreme court investigation into the great cause good. it's the same media in northern china. so there's a gas explosion and the restaurant has killed $31.00 people. that last happens in the city of in tron on the eve of a popular lack of holiday 7 other people are receiving medical attention. one is in a critical condition. some reports, a leaking gas tank is to blame for the blast by shooting has recorded its hardest
