5:22 am
before the strike, i was writing for television, which one of the things that the strength is really calling attention to is how much writers do beyond just writing in television. we're also producers, which means that we are sort of involved with every aspect of making a television show from starting from casting to step design costume, design, hair, and makeup wardrobe. all of those departments are run by a department head and the writers interface with all of them to create the world is that we are where we are killing our storage. so obviously i'm not doing that now. my life has pivoted to something that feels a little bit more like a mix between. um i guess like, summer camp and uh, you know, sort of the eggs essential dread parade. um where uh the most writers are picketing every day. and uh,
5:23 am
most people go to their whatever lot is convenient to them um or where they would like to meet up with friends, um, or colleagues and uh we, we pick it all the entrances at all. the deluxe um, usually for about 3 or 4 hours at a time. um and uh its, it's great to feel the solidarity. um, none of us wish all of us wish this weren't happening. what, what were you writing and more importantly, what happened to the show that you were working on? i was reading and running a show called the watchful eye, which was a huge crock in mystery, on the freeform network. um, formerly known as abc family. so as part of that the disney um so so. busy um, it's under the disney umbrella and uh, we have filled our 1st season and this season had aired uh, starting at the end of january. and so we were between season one and season 2. and
5:24 am
just before the end of the month in june, the network decided to cancel the shop. and what's the biggest problems? what is your biggest demand? is it better pay? is it protection from artificial intelligence? is it more royalties you call them residuals? i believe from the streaming shows, what is it to me, all of those things are extremely important. i think obviously um we need to be paid, you know, commensurate with, uh, the value we are providing. um for all of these companies, we are the reason that they have any product to sell um without the right or there is nothing. um, obviously a i presents uh or a, an existential threat. not just to us. you know, we're sort of the tip of the spear, the whole rest of the business is down the street. you start with your script, but then you build this whole work as i was describing, you've got the actors, you've got the script supervisors, you've got lighting,
5:25 am
you've got in the upset design locations, all the things that go into the like that make the magic of the show, and if they are able to find a way to computerize us, right? if they take away the human beings who write the scripts and they said ok, the computer can write the scripts, then everything else falls beyond that. then they're going to say, oh, we don't need actors, we just scam people and get computers to make them talk. and then okay, you don't need real actors. that means you don't need here and make up. you don't need wardrobe. you don't need lightning. you don't need step design, you don't need anything. and it, it vista rates the entire industry. so, so this really is an existential threat to what is or like this is our company out and everybody works in the industry not. but a lot of people work in the industry and it's sort of our countries, one glorious, successful export. so why, why is it just feels like it's,
5:26 am
it's counter to i just everything that has been built in a 100 years of, of, to making magic for people love it. and you know, to take it all the way. it just feels just as devastating potentially. um, but you know, i think another issue beyond that too is just um inclusiveness and amplifying voices that are not always given a chance to be heard. and, you know, all right, part of that is sure that all writers are getting paid fairly emily fox, right? or, and show run a thank you very much for joining us on the program today. thank you. i, a guatemalan presidential candidates bernardo at a follow has launched his campaign for the runoff. ballast in august, for the federal prosecutor had earlier announced a ban on the other fellows to meet at parties are suspected violations of elections all for the electoral commission. in guatemala, it says that the election will go ahead as plan. you will face former 1st lady sandra torres,
