collapse of the black sea drain deal major salvage operations underway in the red sea to avoid a catastrophic oil spill. the temperatures have reached new horizons. several countries around the world experience huge waves. june was the hottest ever recorded, and july is close to setting a new record in the us record breaking to participate in registered from california and the west coast to florida in the east was on the state capital of phoenix recorded. it's 18 straight days. about 43 degrees celsius, homeless people across the city bore the brunt divisions across the atlantic in europe, the italian capital rome has set a new record high of 41.8 degrees celsius. much of southern europe is experiencing record heat. wildfires in greece are closing in the capital athens. meanwhile,

japan has issued heat stroke and lots of tens of millions of people in nearly half of its provinces and in china, temperatures. and then a more time, some ball in the northwestern jang region sort to record high of more than 52 degrees or wrong. as regular temperature for the 1.8 degrees celsius, smashed the previous record by more than a degrees outside the san francisco leave. the record for the highest temperature ever seen in europe is set to be broken up. but how many reports from room? these are busy days if you're a doctor in italy as the sewing temperatures continue. so 2 is the concern for the elderly. think of something that hasn't been feeling herself over the past few days through the number. if at the meeting, i know that it's awful, i can't sleep at night and i can't live during the day. it's impossible. i never experience such heat all the time. i feel like i'm a box spring. normal life is already more difficult at all age the he just takes

everything out of me. the doctor tells her she needs to drink much more water, something funk admits she often forgets he and says that it's a live saver during the heat wave. in the summer of 2020 to 80000. people died here and literally the vast majority of them being elderly. so the most vulnerable this year have so sorry tease. i'm not taking any chances. they have put together a task force that is being deployed all over the city. the. it all starts with a phone call. this health clinic follows up more than a 1000 elderly who by large living lo, checking on them on a daily basis. teams also go from home to home to check on those with medical conditions like july nothing, courtney persisted. just being that goes out once a day to walk the adult prints. but for july not it's been tough. you just sit by

to me, say you're probably to tell us. it's been nearly a month. i've only been at the hospital here at home. it's horrible. i don't get depressed, but i get very novice. i didn't recognize myself. the heat drives me crazy, but i'm not allowed to leave the house. so i go from room to room. both sister told us about the fear of isolation ever since the global fund demik. and do have a daily phone call or a visit is reassuring. the on the inside, the one, the bottom, the space, the a very scared when we speak to them, they often break down and to be afraid that something happens to them. and no one notices. most of those who died last year were discovered a few days later because there was no one around why to get ahold of me that he did . the worst is yet to come. during these days of a red alert, the elderly are a huge concern with the timing of just the red room where some of the world's highest temperatures are being seen in the western united states. and kristin southern is joining us now. live from nevada christa. i was just have
7:05 pm
a quick look is about 9 am. i think they're in its estimated at about 57 degrees celsius. i know people there are used to high heats, but how many coping with the 6th stream measure the well here in clark county, nevada, it's actually 43 degrees and it has been for 3 days now and is expected to stay at those levels till the end of the week, that's not really unusual in terms of this part of the country because of the desert in terms of temperatures do get that high. what's unusual is that it's been so long, it's been going on for such a long time here and throughout the south western united states. we've seen many cities break daily records and records for our extended period of time. in phoenix, arizona. it's been over 45 degrees for now uh, 19 days consecutive. and so with the national weather service is telling people
7:06 pm
here you may think you're used to living in the desert. but this is not the typical desert rather because of the long duration. and the high temperature is not only during the day, but also at night when things typically cool down a bit. i'm actually in one of several cooling centers that have been set up in clark county to help people who may not have access to air conditioning. and i'm joined by major harold. wow. that he is with the salvation army, which is a religious organization, which helps the underprivileged, correct. right. thanks for joining us here. can you tell me a little bit more about who you are healthy at this pulling center and that your other facilities? sure salvation army is holding center here in clark county and we have to and then we also, we also operate with the police department with more teens and they are traveling things that pass out hold water around town. so what happens is, up here in the cooling centers, we basically serve those that are experiencing homelessness, low income families,
7:07 pm
low income adults, things like that. be able to come in when they have no other place to go and air condition building. we, we offer them showers, we offer them watery facilities, cold water, of course, a place to rest in the air conditioning. and then of course, in the middle of the afternoon, we serve meals here. we have caseworkers here that what that are able to assist them with their housing needs, things like that, not just housing needs, but any of their needs, whether they be mental health challenges, addiction issues, job training, job searches, we do all that, all those things here at the salvation army. and so we do all of that here. and then of course, with our traveling more teams, then they carry the water with them throughout the neighborhoods and the areas in town that, that we have more people experiencing homelessness. and they, and they just pass about then the author, the services for people to come back here. how is this latest ways different from what you've seen in the past? is it affecting what you do? so as you pointed out, usually a heat wave, but especially here in las vegas is,
7:08 pm
uh, you know, a couple of days a weekend, something like that this many days in a row. basically what it has done here is it has force people who are normally sleeping outside. they can put up with one or 2 really crazy hot nights. so now as to the point where day after day after day and there be hydrated and things like that. so what happens is our, our shelters are getting full. so even here at our day center, we commonly serve 250 people a day here in our day center. that's now up to about 300 people. a day in our shelters are getting closer and closer to the past. and what is the risk that people face? i mean, how dire have you had to call ambulances? do they know the risk or do you think they, i don't know that. so this one at a significant percentage of those that are experiencing almost a dispute so that they don't always know the risk or even if they do know the risk, maybe they get caught somewhere downtown, whether it's not a cooling station close by. or again, you know, it's a large metropolitan area. so there's a lot of cement. there's a lot of, you know,
7:09 pm
things like that. even if you think you're in the shade, it's still a $115.00 degrees outside. you know, so, so it surprises people. sometimes the main, the main issue of course that we deal with this heat stroke and, and it does happen. and we of course we have uh, we have less staff around here, this pain. we have some medical stuff here. and then we call paramedics and mediately for us. well, thank you so much and thanks for giving us some insight into what's happening here . the people here told me that they are giving out a 1000 bottles of water a week. now, as a result of this latest heat wave in the brain needs that people are facing. and again, it's not just here in car county, nevada, where i think people, when they internationally think of nevada, they think of las vegas fancy tourist destination with lots of people with money and air conditioning. but the homeless population here is actually quite substantial as over 6000 people with many 1000 more that are
7:10 pm
to start are at risk of becoming on house. so they are the most at risk as a result of this latest cheese wave. and that is continued not only here in clark county, but around the, southeastern south western and now south central united states as well. first, and thank you very much indeed this. christy said to me, bringing us up to date from nevada. the file grease has been hit by wild sized following temperatures as high as 44 degrees residents. a month northwest of athens are being forced to free their homes. more than 255 fights has 9 helicopters, 11 aircraft, and 75. fire engines were taking on a 5 mile wide fire front decreases prime minister is returned home urgently from a summit in brussels palestinians and guys are struggling to keep cool because of the power shortage of worsens by the continuing is really blockade. money are going 12 hours a day without electricity. social media campaigns are being launched,

really flags. many of them have either noise makers, one musical instruments down families. there are young people from across the entirety of the spectrum of the population here. and they're all coming week. one message, they want the prime minister to show for good his proposal. this bill that would limit the power of the supreme court. now, why are we in front of the supreme court wisest protests which encompasses a few 1000 people we believe at this point in front of the spring for the spring. fortunately, a part of the controversy this package of proposed laws that were proposed by the prime minister and as far right. we coalition critics of this package of the proposed law say that we take israel away from democracy on talk proceed. i. they say that it who the road trips balance significantly. we can power up introduce street in this country. today, you've had thousands of people come out across the country. there have been dozens
7:13 pm
of rallies. several people arrested according to israeli police, a due to what they called a disruptive conduct and we just, it's expect to throughout the week there will be more protests because there, there is so much of a ground swell of enthusiasm when it comes to people coming out fine, this is a message to the prime minister to not go forward with the 2nd and 3rd readings, which would enact that into law, which is people lot of who believe would happen potentially monday. the 24th monday of next week. rob bama. thank you very much. indeed, that's mohammed junction bringing this up to date from west jews and that their attempts are ongoing inside. yeah, maybe i'll just bring about a ceasefire into down. the army which is battling rapid support for us is a sense of delegation to jet or to set has its demands previous negotiations and the red sea city was suspended in june following seas far vile oceans, but also for power incident and has led to the desk of at least 3000 people and forced a 3000000 people from their homes,
7:14 pm
have them oregon is following developments from on demand and she explains why the adults are happening now. there are 2 things to look at as the reasons as to why the 2 sides have resumed in direct talk and decided city of just the. the 1st is the developments on the ground. now here in the city or from the man, they were areas that were dominant dominated by the rapids support forces. and which is the army, was able to regain control of pushing back the rapid support forces, introducing their control in the city of on demand. then you have had a to north at that's part of the capital. the army has been trying to take control of what it has been unable to do so. so right now on the ground slicing is taking a lot of toll from both sides. when it comes to the army, they say that they want to reach an agreement that would include a comprehensive dialogue and that will eventually lead to a free and fair election. then you have the permanent, through rapid support forces. they dominate many parts of the capital, but uh on the terms in terms of reputation. they've been getting
7:15 pm
a lot of reputation, especially from rights groups, have been accused of mass graves in the city in the city of janina and west are 4th of targeting civilians based on the estimates of these and being behind the displacement of hundreds of thousands in west are for so that those up with a negative reputation that they getting at the moment could be one of the reasons why they've decided to resume talks again into sort of city of tend to these talks are insight wrecked. and they're in for some sort of a cease fire to allow for humanitarian aid. and eventually the hope is that they would be a permanent these fires. that's what the end of conflict that has been ongoing since mid april. so i had an order 0 to find out why a us soldier has been detained in north carolina, an officer of upon the voting across the demilitarized zone. besides the,

i managed to come to some sort of a political settlement about a ceasefire. this could bring all the parties in the near future to negotiate a permanent supplement. it is the top priority for the united nations by the i yet to find out how to can move forward or us citizens across the border into north korea without authorization, i just thought he's being detained. minds believe to be an american soldier who was taking part in the tour on the dom militarized border separating north and south korea according to local media. it was with a group of visitors in the village of palmer job, but he's any bolted over the brake line which marks the border. the lines confirmed the unauthorized crossing did take place and it says is working to resolve the incident. my account is good, the latest from washington dc. so the pentagon has just released the statement. it's saying that a us service member on an orientation to a willfully and without the authorization across the military demarkation line into

the democratic people's republic of korea. here we have a at the parent cairo's vacation that this was not a mistake. the use of the word willfully that indicates that the soldier does this on purpose, although that has got to be confirmed at some stage. so this was 1st reported by the un combined, which supervisors that email to try. so in between the 2, korea is which has been in place since 1953 a this of course. now i think mistakes in terms of confrontation, not just between the careers, but obviously between the us and north korea, the us backing south korea and has been doing so for a long period of time. so just another incident that could provide a spot to some kind of the dispute in that highly difficult area. the one security council is holdings for us to have a meeting in the financial sense of artificial intelligence, mr. global peace. it comes off to you and she.
