1:04 pm
before yesterday about the early hours of the evening, the entire a gaza strip went in total, the black house in terms of phone services and internet services. and what happened was, was the guy that was taken uh, completely off the grid and leaving people with, with fear and concern. and the speculations about atrocities are going to take place at that time at what it did. actually it impacted people negatively in terms of as being connected or being online, just to see the latest updates of what's going to happen or where is the next to safe, a place to run to. in addition to that, it henders off i authoration aids on the ground as united nation. the ground team
1:05 pm
could not coordinate their activities and then delivery of a on the ground in addition to a hen during the work of the red cross. in terms of responding to appeals of the people who are either under the levels or offering assistance to those who need, who need it the most that this the critical time. and that would be for the past few hours, the, uh, the communication network has been restored, but it hasn't been rest ward slowly. uh, what is actually what we have now is this the week? it signals. but we learned from a source at the house till the official telecommunication group and the palestinian territories, stating that the cables and sol, so towers and names restrictions have been largely damaged in into major areas in gaza. and in the central area of the gaza strip. namely,
1:06 pm
and so i then and there and by law that offers services to both the north and the southern part of gauze on because that damage on and installations is hard to replace that these. 3 difficult times now they were, they referred to alternatives just to connect people. and that explains why, for the most part, a phone calls would connect after 5 or 7, it tries, or even a simple text would take you several attempts to send. okay, how do you, you may be able to so to give us a good, complete updates on the communication side of things. and again, we'll just focus back in on the defense. and of course, those of you and store houses that were broken into, obviously the uncertainty based on the fact that people couldn't communicate with each other and that the un couldn't communicate with his own on the ground. and offices who are distributing that food has created a lot of uncertainty,
1:07 pm
walters to you and saying on the ground, the people that you'll speaking to about the amount of food and a that's gold and how much more is still required of the well the, the blackout had a, had a negative impact on the operations, the 8 operations of toner, one other organizations. they're providing aid to palestinians, inability to coordinate a based on whatever schedule that the, how to throughout the day. i made it hard for people uh to know exactly when they were going to receive their portion of the 8 sending them to complete on the 3rd, tennessee. and later on, i just had 1000 of people to break it into these warehouses, getting their wheat flour and a hot hygiene materials and, and then water supplies, everything that they need for the date, the dates they activities. now, the toner was a stated,
1:08 pm
i mean i believe it was the owner was commission or was it at that age? opperation is are crumbling and, and now people are hungry for the 1st time in the gaza strip. and this is exactly what's going on. there is a great desperation among palestinians, and even even those who are not in the phone or was a school. there's the taken to school that shows a few just people who are in the streets or people evacuated to other areas. this find it difficult to get there daily, daily, a portion of food or, or water supplies. we seen people accusing that for, for long dollars is to get a gallon of water. or in the front of bakeries for a pack of, of bread. only things have asians are, are worsening by the hour. there are in sibley markets. the car not so not working right now as just there is a serious lack of,
1:09 pm
of food supplies and other necessities. okay. how do yeah, thanks very much because uh, difficult to, to communicate, obviously in, in the situation that you'll facing. but it is good to speak to will of course, keep in touch with you through the day i. this is really 5 minutes or less and your address, the nation on saturday saying the war against him us hasn't as a new stage, an official report, several key parties. teresa, the despite going calls will cease fire. israel has entered a new phase of the water and guys of the prime minister is not using the word invasion. the troops are on the ground. the bombardment of the strip is for rushes and continuous, idaho rook. repeat out, we're going to fight on land in the air and sea cliff and we will win. it will be victory of the good against the evil. in this war, we are standing together strongly now who was facing questions from the media for the 1st time. since the attacks of october, the 7th, he won his country of
1:10 pm
a long and difficult campaign, but again, refused to accept. he was responsible for the failures that led to the hum us attack. a lot of cool um, it's a whole lot there to vote after the war. we will all have to give answers. everyone including myself, there was a failure here, a horrible failure. the military campaign has brought people onto the streets of tel aviv and protest. many relatives of the missing or do is being held captive. the believe the federal chas. bombardment is making it harder for them to be freed . before it is nationally televised news conference. netanyahu mac representatives of the families. the 250 people say these are these. he told them the military campaign was about accepting pressure. i don't want to mess my name up. zip code of so we will exercise and exhaust every option to bring them home, both before the armies entry and after its understood negotiations to free the captives of continuing the complicated by the continuing assault on guys up there
1:11 pm
are going calls for the names to the war and guys, a growing protests and capitals around the world. but any guns, a member of these really war cabinet says there is no a diplomatic time limit on this. just an operational quote. and this is just the 2nd stage of a war. this is already claimed thousands of lives. i'll look for sure. i'll just see it up. you know, keep i east jerusalem. let's go say which is our car right to live for us and occupied east jerusalem with the very light to. so it does seem that there is a rout brewing between, that's in yahoo, the wall cabinets and the opposition. what seems to be going on of the oh, definitely. so how i mean there's a war on the grounds happening and causing a subsidy. been aware of what's up between benjamin netanyahu and in those included in his whole cabinet, it all started when in the middle of the night, the prime minister had sweets. it's basically blaming the intelligence and minute
1:12 pm
tree a full the or type of a 7 a time for not being able to prevents it. and then a soon officer in the morning, i guess when some of his cabinet members sore it, they. 6 suites it about so it's saying that this is cross the red line. you had many guns, one of the a will cabinet members and also a full month defense minister asking him to retract it. you have the leader of the opposition. yeah. a piece saying that this is the cost to red line. then off to that we saw the. a mess and you all who did delete say, and then you apologized publicly for it. this has been happening all in the public sphere on social media. he said that he had made a mistake. interestingly, he apologized for the sweets and said, but we all together invest in the war and that he will and show that they all saying united but hasn't yet. so despite criticism apologized himself with taking
1:13 pm
any of the blame for not being able to prevent dots attack time when this unity cycle unity government is supposed to be united. in times of what benny gotten himself said, that's a, in who the leadership has to take responsibility and help move this country and will forward off the back of the talk. well, while the war continues, as far as his role is concerned, the ministry has been speaking about sort of the latest situation developments on the ground and gauze. so what have they been saying is are 6 yeah, we'll get to that in a moment. we have been hearing in the distance funds, which means that the item has been inches, that thing, some of those rockets of being sent over from us into central is robin area is close to a ton of v a year in the morning that was in the southern board as so the house is still keeping up with those rockets, but so we have heard from the minute true statement. aaliyah with
1:14 pm
a has confirmed that it's a couple of the soldiers were injured. but what he was saying is that there's an expansion of the number of troops that have been sent in in the last 48 hours. and also he said that they had target 6 full $150.00. how my targets with a warning, once again for those in the north to lose it. so the south, but interestingly, he spoke about the humanitarian age and part of his warning, telling them to move. so the south was that, as of monday, he said more humanitarian aid will be allows and of course, as well as controlling the border as well or off pulled up with egypt. and it's, you know, been up to them whether they allow more age and then he said, that's going to be happening from monday. so required for us there, it will keep body series and thank you. let's go say that to give known, say the corresponding twos, and garza city and join us now on the phone. you've been good to speak to under what is very difficult situations. not just fall correspondence in gaza, but also for the public at large. just give us an idea of what the last 24 hours is
1:15 pm
being like with communication links, literally broken as well. it's definitely amazing to be able to actually call people and hear their voices. we were in a total of lock outs from the rest of the world because for a out almost 2 days and it was the ink cartridge, the $818.00 to not be able to uh, check on one another or even uh, check on other people or even the centuries and health as soon as he's able to reach those who are in dire need, keep them from the bombardment. uh, not having internet was also a difficult situation where we were not able to connect with any kind of a person inside garza or even outside. so it's really good to have the
1:16 pm
communications come back old. both they have come back or they're coming back gradually. the signal are still very much a week. we're trying to get connected to the internet which comes into it every now and then uh the wi fi is there still completely not connected. a landline to some of them in some areas where restored while other areas are still not uh, they're not able to restore them. no, of course the communication company in because it's been here a couple of times. it's saying that it is working under very difficult situation. and that it's true in, in, in, in a life of all this, i'm going bombardment and the air strikes in the air and also the drones. that's already in a, in a normal time back very much the communications in gaza. the end of their trying. it is very difficult and harsh conditions to restore the lines that where
1:17 pm
a kentucky destroyed because of a d. e. 's really hit people borkman 2 days ago on the entire uh, communication uh south because district of course, communications not to one side. you know, everybody's a human being and when you call and speak to somebody, there is a psychological impact. how does that help people be able to cope with that? uh, for those that are around you for those that you've witnessed that you've talked to both young and old as well for and let me, let me just give you a very simple idea. like to ask for, pardon me, for example, not being able to communicate with my family and check with them on the inside. those inside got the or those outside not being able to reach me on for and why they see on television, these heavy bombardment going on. it was really
1:18 pm
a terrifying she think it's, it's, it's make that's feel like we're, we're really going and say why the people here around me who had this had to be scattered in other areas long in different areas of didn't know what had happened to their families. if they got bombarded, if not because the air strikes were very, very violent in the costs 2 days, they were across because the strip of he did not know exactly where that was very intense of it's like logical impact on the, on the people here. also, many of the people were for me because what if something happens to us? what if we get on board it? and then we can go to the defense to get quote, emergency team we got to. so that was and a constant concern and a very difficult situation for, for the people who missed these moments. let me say
1:19 pm
terrifying. our in today's, not just a moment, but uh what we, oh, you see it's got us through the communications has come in the day lights and people go out today and see and investigate the phones and lots of people who were killed the were in the street no one even reported or was able to report 50 people with the bar good. or in that area. it was been part of or their homeless targeted and they were chicky hills. and this is, this is just an image of the desk to these 2 days that we were conflict. keep cuts off. now we don't know if these people were killed in the 1st day or the 2nd life. surely the hospitable guard did, their parties, kills the brown. and she has health said that it has seen this scene in different areas. even some of the bodies conflict be perfect
1:20 pm
and uh, 9 there and no one was able to communicate with you to call for help in these areas. you know, so as far as timing goes, assessing things, you know, keeping in touch with neil, keep hide westbank. at least 3 palestinians have been killed during is variety, right? so i have an item in con, his life for us in ramallah, in the occupied westbank and the desk told him run into westbank has been mounting to just talk us through the latest. because a well, we're a 114 people who have died a since october, the 7th. in the last 12 hours of the night in the ass cold refugee camp a 25 year old palestinian was killed and 10 others wounded. in the town i have to move into a bus a 32 year old palestinian was killed and 7 others injured. the number 3 my in my
1:21 pm
life 30 year old palestinian was killed and 11 others injured. that the difference is now is of these rallies and taking multiple raids in multiple locations that never really happened before. it was always kind of one raid in one location. but now society is right. these the gloves are off in the occupied westbank for the eucharist are actually increasing as well. 35 for rest overnights to give you a sense of what that actually means is 6600 palestinians in prison and is really jails some 1590. of those have been arrested since i'll type the sub and 1800 of them. so as i, oh sorry, i have actually being held on the administrative detention that being held without charge. so the numbers are increasing every single day said, of course the diplomacy continues low switch under the radio, but you might say out to view of the cameras as well, of the that's helps lady rides the behind
1:22 pm
a foreign ministers that any actually arrived in ramallah today. on a surprise visit with no he was coming um he flew in uh from jordan where he met the king on site today. and they had tools that he then flew in on jo damien. have you coped? his land is uh, in uh, milan and then spend a few hours we understand with a who the boss, the public opinion president, bringing with him a message of solidarity to the palestinian people. however, this is very interesting because he's not going to israel bahrain actually has relations with israel, full diplomatic relations with israel. israel has an embassy in by right, and this is all assigned during the abraham a codes. now the most cynical political ups of his head suggesting that the foreign minister is actually coming with a message from netanyahu. and that's the level of kind of mistrust. there is of any
1:23 pm
kind of diplomatic visit, but particularly one that comes from bar, right, which has never had real diplomatic relations with palestine able to come for a site and rubella. thank you. to the mazda as needed in garza r as in. well, it says that the group is ready for an immediate present as well, with israel, according to the palestinian prisoners society, $6600.00 palestinians being held in his way the jails, including hundreds of children. it says 60 detainees of women, and 16, a journalist, $1800.00 are held without charging the cycled administrative detention. in 2022. the number was $0.86 a month as a tax. on october, the 7th, 1590 palestinians have been detained. before the conflict to more than 5000 palestinians were held in his ready jails, that's the highest number in the past 2 decades. let's bring in abdulla. i'm the associate professor of at least history of georgetown university here in castle
1:24 pm
kentucky. back with us on the program. let's just talk about the, the prisoners swap with the whole deal around this and how important it is in terms of positive mediation, but also part of the negotiations of trying to find a settlement to what's going on. and goals are right now. yeah, i mean, i think that context is really significant. so thinking specifically about the number of palestinians who were being held in his rarely presence, if this is something that, that you know, goes back quite a ways we've seen in the past. deals that were made for uh, is really soldiers that were captured you know, by some of these different movements. and of course, trying to then swap them for. in one case, at least one soldier was swapped for over a 1000 palestinians were being held under these kinds of conditions that we've seen . and so we think this, there is a idea in place to try to do something similar. and just today we receive reports that the families of these really captives have come out and said they're in fully in support of the idea of a mass swap that involves a freeing all of the captives that are being held in gaza as well as them. the
1:25 pm
palestinian prisoners that are being held by israel is the 1st time the talk about christmas. what has occurred? and we've seen past examples of this happen between israel and all groups. however, it's pups unique. that is right. the families also very vocal and the pressure is reflected in the way it is right, the society at the moment reviews what's going on the action they need from the government? well, i think there's a real fear given the scale of the devastation that's unfolding and cause a right now when we think about this mass, aerial bombardment, i mean it's, it's unprecedented. and in many ways, we've seen similar campaigns in the past, but this is really the 1st time that we're seeing it on this level of the destruction and devastation. and we know, of course, what this means include for everyone and guys, and that includes the captives. we have seen reports unconfirmed, of course, about the number of captives that may have died as a result of israelis lombardi, gaza. and so of course the families are being very vocal about the fact that they
1:26 pm
don't see this as a solution to the crisis that's unfolding right now. and certainly they'd like to see if not a ceasefire, at least something of a swap. that would then at least resulted in freeing all of the captives again, both those in gaza and then of course the palestinians that are being held as well for international views. just to clarify for them as well. there was always this distinction about the, the, the type of captives that the have us and other groups may have, does the military and the never the civilians. and that's being took certainly from us and what we've understood in heard that they are willing to give and allow the civilians to, to pretend back to as well. but there is an impass somewhere in the negotiations some way along the line. a lot of things, negotiations behind close tools under the radar. there's a lot of different lot take flow. reading going on. we saw the secretary general macon on federal pit. stop here in the hall before you went talk to the pool.
1:27 pm
there's a lot of moving parts to this when it comes to the release of either military captives or civilian captives. yeah, i mean, i think we've already seen 2 waves of, of the release of to, you know, 2 separate incidents for 2 women were, were released. i think this signal, at least the idea that there was a desire at least the willingness to release all of the captives were civilians, especially those who are holding for passports. given obviously the intervention as you mentioned, have a number of other concern states. and that this is being treated as kind of a separate process from that of the, the possibility of a prisoner exchange. that then would involve a military personnel as well. and so again, this is more and i think of keeping it in line with what we've seen in terms of past president. i'm certainly the idea now that other states are considering their own involvement and seeing this is part of a wider problem or rather wider challenge to deescalate the overall situation. because of course, all of this is not happening in a vacuum. it's happening with the backdrop of this massive of apartment campaign
1:28 pm
that's unfolding. we've seen, of course, the reports that the ground invasion is happening all the in, in stages and kind of a sporadic fashion. and so, of course, all of these things have to be taken into consideration as part of one process rather than treating them separately. and then the focus, the study, the assemblies is a release of their loved ones. and yet, you know, you have a say, a range of avenues to try and get the captives released them. one avenue that we saw suddenly was the russian line, which is obviously the most go directly asking her mouse to look for it's. russian is raisal russian jews the thought in gaza. and, and the very tentative reply was we will look for them which gives you the possibility of a question to does have us really have all of the captives all day with other groups. all of the civil society individuals who might have just captured his writings and brought them back into integrated as real big question,
1:29 pm
talk about where the kept is off and who's caught them. yeah, certainly. i mean, i think this has been part of the challenge of, of trying to think and talk about all of these events going back several weeks is, is just how sporadic the information has been. how incomplete did quite often is i think this has been really frustrating for those who are trying to get as much accurate information and to then work on the basis of that information in order to secure results. and so we're certainly seeing conflicting reports we're seeing and inability to account and a very kind of precise way in terms of both numbers in terms of nationalities, backgrounds, in terms of location. i mean, all of these things are still very much fluid in part because of the conditions are simply not allowing for that. i mean, we just heard from the corresponding about the lack of communication and what that has meant. even for people within garza who are trying, you know, to secure their own safety in light of these bombardments the inability to even achieve medical support because of the lack of communication. and so even 1st responders are not in any position to respond even to some of these bombing
1:30 pm
campaigns that are being discovered and sometimes many hours, in fact the next day. so i think this is all sort of part of the same process, the inability to, to really understand what's going on and any kind of a precise way. we'll continue to and pick this up throughout the day with you. all right, thanks joining us here. and i'll just say we're still ahead here on the use on what we live in islam of us. but demonstrations are being held to show solidarity with palestinians conduct the a hello. all of portugal is under a weather alert for to rental downpours. all has to do with this moisture streaming in off the atlantic cutting across into western spain. so just to the west of madrid also whether it's in play for these pulses of rain. north of this also is talking forecasts for the islands of ireland and britain, especially western england, eastern england, and eastern northeastern scotland,
1:31 pm
where we could see but a months worth of rain in a short period of time. and that says, precipitation bump sent a colder air. it will turn to snow in life via so he's centimeters on the ground in rica for the bulk in st cloud's, rolling across the temperature is not that low enough to it's okay. we go, few clouds rolling across the boss for us and is stumble. may see the shower there with a height of 23 degrees and in africa. eventually we're going to pump up hot air from this. how hard. so that will push up the temperature in tripoli over the next 24 hours. and it is very active for the eastern side of south africa, rain alerts and play wind alerts as well. and we're also going to be dealing with some snow for the su to big drop in those temperatures. but we've got some hot air coming up to them. the loop socket could set a temperature record for the month of october on sunday, before your temperatures fall off the the,
1:32 pm
the challenges it was. these are with me is the whole round. the reminder on told stories, thousands of desperate thomas city and zip resulted to breaking into distribution centers in garza steaks, food and other basic supplies. the inside of civil owed was collapsing, and they were in the strip is sites as well continued as fire and ground to types on golf. so i have an ice on the sun today. communication networks across the territory have been completely separate, but some services are now being restored. and the violence spreads beyond because overnights in the old 5 west bank at least 3 palestinians account's showing is right. the rights, more than 1600 palestinians have been detained in the west bank since october. those palestinians face increasing conflict at home. hundreds of thousands of people continued to take part in solar that were 2 valleys around the world. were expecting large protests in gemini, spain, canada, and the us already today. we've seen demonstrations in sydney casa blanca, babies,
1:33 pm
and it's, some of i've been pocket stones from where i'm joined now by come all high to an, come on, you know, protest saw being held. i believe very close to the diplomatic and plays where the voices i'm show will be heard beyond the very high rules about security perimeter. the. the absolutely. the diplomatic enclave is just a few 100 meters from where i am. however, these people will not be allowed to go near the us and they say it is a large turn out by far, the largest protest, riley. and it's all about today as part of the issue is concerned with that being violated. now the city that read women and children, i have a large number, then people have gone from all over the provinces to take part in what they call the margins under data do with the palestinian people that are still getting that credit the united states are traitors, decades right, and it's going to be doing
1:34 pm
a project a by getting and it's in deeper and god's done. so there is considerable and also because of the end ability of respective governments who have not been able to do anything except print decided right. and so indeed, our grounds will of the board and that is likely to grow as far as focused on is concerned. then the other got good because of the on going from dr. hidden god, what's the most politically response from those in charge of the country with regard to what scaffolding does, what a base thing as well as far as the government is concerned day of course, no one knows that goes on for all the general assembly meeting, which condemned is right and wanted to find a major nail river, the government, and not being as well good at the people who would have liked it to be loved the
1:35 pm
jamal. just allow me, richard of a large party or, and function gone. they have considerable support on the street as being the staging large demonstration. people from civil society are also doing a different places, but the government's response has been disappointing, where they've gone to the people, a lot of the mentoring focused on one of the quotes once the resolution and the general assembly come on. how does that force in bulk, as long as capitol, thanks very much. well, la drawings are also planned and suppose the palestine in levels capital bay root of himself back and forth on buttons continue between has the law and israel is that a cold, isn't that route for us with bowl? the splitting the ceiling level is very strong. who's been organized to go behind the demonstrations by
1:36 pm
obviously on the slide. some problem that was that we will try and get back to as soon as we can. let's just talk about the demonstrations with all i guess, to abdullah already in from georgetown university. but they all growing in number and they all becoming more widespread, unprecedented numbers, whether it be london or washington, new york, sidney oakland. there's lots of others we're seeing now as the focus is very much and has always been the policy and the issue meant them could easily be lost. how do you see these progressing on getting bigger or even smaller? well certainly i think given the, the scale of the atrocities that are being committed. i mean, now we're talking about something on the order of a genocidal campaign when we consider the statements that are coming out of is really leaders including the prime minister just last night, who was talking and very you kind of know dark and kind of genocidal terms when we actually consider the language that he was using, i think this means that the entire global focus is very much fixated on what's to
1:37 pm
come next because we've seen this before, right? when he is really prime minister talks about this as being a 2nd war of independence. we know that 1948 was the original next slide that this was the process of expelling half of power science population 750000 people were made homeless over the course of that war in parts through this massive expansion. and in the kind of subtler colonial violence that was inflicted by the state of israel. and so now we're seeing promises of a sudden the 2nd neck 5 by many is really theaters. i think this is certainly showing that the world is very fixated on this and there is clearly a lack of support for many uh, policies by western leaders, including the united states, including the governments of many european states and australia and others that have come. ready word and said they support israel's actions, they've come forward and said that they would not give a you know, a bread line for anything that is real. my to a to the. all right, and we'll hold it that just somebody we're going to cost back to gauze, whether it's
1:38 pm
a press conference being held right now. let's just listening to what speeds i talk to. i sure if i could, there is a spokesman for the ministry of health, which has showed that the, the a lot of lies from as well. and the problem america as done as well as the evidence. very clear. um, we have told the into i was about the numbers and the about with the lies of the occupation and there a lie. you as administration to the ton of the communication system on the internet. this morning made it clear that the is where 80 photos is. have made the logo mess. it goes and everyone has seen the ambulances and the civil defense vehicles are being targeted in addition to a lot of people who lost the lives,
1:39 pm
as well as increasing the threats to hit the more hospitals and medical centers, including around $100000.00 mitigating stop in addition to the sick people and the one that vapor, they are or on the threats of being targeted without ends imagining. and the dimension we all scan dance and lots of community to solve this very aggravation to stop in supplies against the display as people that think dominican aids. and the system that we come from the nothing new is happening regarding the medical assistance that's needed by the ministry of have we own positive concerns to be up to the responsibilities, to doing their job and all that to be able to serve and has been 3 the wounded and
1:40 pm
the victims of the sick people. we need to do our job in this regard. we oscar o brothers in egypt. to re open the rough uh, crossing and to lift it was, you know, the to have the medical assistance regularly do a heavy pause and also we need some of the critically, will just be able to be able to go and treat it in egypt. i left the mazda 3 and thousands of displays in the hospital, which made it very critical to the has a system and guys to be able to do the job and needed medical teams of gentlemen have football teams have monitor thousands of victims with skin diseases and diarrhea and we warm again is the spread of it did the mix
1:41 pm
because of the lack of what was a and the without what the nodes take care of them. the hygiene rules that 23 days have led to them about the medical field, which is to lose control and enough to be able to do the job we in the minutes of has we of the graduates of medicine schools, the tired of living schools of nursing schools, this is the hosp to follow, to join us and meet the design of the hospitals immediately. and to have the medical themes and the as hospitalization centers. and we urge our people to stop the blood donation in hospitals and in black donation branches and guys that we offer the actual custom organization to bring more blood to the guys. those trip was all the minutes. the old pad and i mean just the citizens
1:42 pm
of guys that who have lost some of their families i left with uh with their names being mentioned and the lives of the minnesota of has. i'm also those who are still on the left robin. those who have been voted with our electric, the hospitals know those who went through the hospitals and with an a not registered for whatever reason. we call them or to contact the minutes of hands on this. the number 10300. so that the 67253 is a lot. you know that the complete overlays and the requirements and peace be up on . you might not even have this missing with what seems to be the end of the press
1:43 pm
conference. i'm not sure if i could or the, from the health ministry edging good graduates to come forward to help with the medical aid. also an appeal for blood donations and also asking the international community to put pressure on israel to make sure they stop talking health facilities. one of the most telling points is we, i'd like to ask of the associate professor amenities history at georgetown. are you still with us here? was that the don't to actually mention that you want to the roof of border crossing open so that those with critical injuries could be treated as a question that were often asked you know, although travels and them i told to 0 by all view as globally as why come not simple task of the russell border crossing between gauze and egypt not be open? it seems the logical thing to do well, it would be, but i think the part of the problem has been the fact that egypt doesn't even have control over its own borders. and i think this is one of the open secrets that's been part of the fact of the stranglehold and the blockade that's been enforced over gaza for going on 17 years now. so this wasn't a crisis that began just
1:44 pm
a few weeks ago. we've seen this blockade and in effect, practiced by both egypt and israel at the same time and, and part going back this period through whatever president happens to be there, whether it was hosting bought or now under a different that has you see that this has been part and parcel of egypt policy, you know, in terms of why it's doing this, i think certainly that it's, it's see that some of its own agencies, some of its own autonomy in part through the camp david peace treaty that goes back to the late 19 seventy's in part, the options, for instance, are not able to have a real force in sinai itself and its own territory doesn't control its own border with gaza. and certainly we know that egypt as a recipient of over $2000000000.00 in us 8 every year, making it the 2nd largest recipient of 8 after only israel being the 1st of course . and so in that sense, i think there are serious questions about how it egypt is clearly not playing a very constructive role in terms of the overall treatment of palestinians. and we'd certainly seen the tension between ordinary junctions with reality by the 10s
1:45 pm
of thousands, not just in recent weeks, but really over the years in opposition to what the egyptian state has done in terms of its enforcement of this. each of the thank you very much and just an update really on the figures that we're getting from the health industry in gauze for 8000 now is the death toll in the gaza strip. and that's according to the health ministry in gauze will of course continue to bring you more on that through the day. let some cool say the fact tuesday to hold a who's in bainbridge, we were going to speak to about the many valleys that are going on around the world, including in the lebanese capital, who's actually you might say, driving this particular demonstration zayna because it's a great deal of stuff i strong feeling about what's going on in gaza, of the well no doubt, many lebanese to emphasize with the palestinian cause, and they've been watching in horror scenes from gauze. so the relentless bombardment,
1:46 pm
the killing of women and children. this particular process is being organized by hum us. we are in the central babies. many people here are palestinians as well because loving on has a sizable palestinian refugee population. people here are condemning what the international committee of the red cross is calling intolerable human suffering. people here are also confirming the silence of the world. there's a lots of anger towards the western leaders saying they have given as well the green light, the unwavering support, to carry out what people here are calling the genocide in dogtown. there's also condemnation of the arab leaders saying that quote is a shame that is really flags continued to be wasted in some arab capitals. so a show of support the show of solidarity. but there's also a message of defiance here from us leaders saying that as well as the end will be defeated and it will not be able to achieve anything by its ground assault. and it states that goal of destroying her mouth will not happen. so
1:47 pm
a message of solidarity, but at the same time, a lot of defiance indeed, why not so? so the diversity continues. there is also a great deal of tension on the border between 11 on and israel. that's how they get impact on those that actually lives and works. i guess the united nation sounds saying nearly 13000 people have been displaced by the ongoing conflict in the border area arrives of nearly 40 percent in the past week alone. yes. those villages along the border are now empty. people have lost their livelihood. some people are concerned that this could be a for attractive conflict. yes, many lebanese will emphasize emphasize with the palestinian cause, but there are many others who are against. a 11 on being dragged into this conflict . what is happening along the border is a war between the is randy military and has the law and ally of you run a group which has repeatedly said, god who will not solve,
1:48 pm
gone so will not be left alone. it's still not clear whether or not has the plans to escalate this involvement get more involved. and that could mean the conflict moving deeper inside the 11 east territory. so it makes feeling someone lebanese who actually works here with our witness. sorry. the 2006 for between the israeli military and has the law which caused really a lot for service station. but today the country is the economy has all but collapse and people are struggling. and so is the states, but no south. the majority of the people in this country are supporting the palestinian people. as you know, with these relentless has really bombardments and the fact that aid has not been able to reach the typical deforest by in direct. thank you. now these really help me says the 3 rockets will find from 11 on into northern israel on saturday. the missiles wanted to know there is no damage or injuries of being reported these right now. besides, it's talked it a has blog site. well,
1:49 pm
only hashem is our correspondent line for us in dakota, in southern lebanon. just bring us up to speed early on the situation that because as we said to with zeno, it's impacting on the lives of people that depend on the land of the southern level . as well, so head um over the board the from here to the east and um is really showing going on since this morning now every now and then you here but for the main thing for sure by that is uh uh, shelling and also to what's uh have you called about? what's the central effect uh, uh, close to here there was showing in the beginning of the day what's now there's nothing. however, this is all of course related to, to this situation where the software bundle now is an operations on and situation is stance. and many people decided as they are saying, decided to leave yesterday alone. there was several of the docs on his ready me to
1:50 pm
treat both across the board, the by his will law fighters. now also the united nations announced that one of its uh offices was injured moderately yesterday and then is ready, shutting on a u. n. a base and who the also the, the u. n. base here where we are in the florida was hate with shell. however, there were no casualties reported in terms of the, the, the community that actually depend on the livelihoods of the funding community, especially. it's impacting a great deal of the harvest system to, to close. i mean, over the past 17 years since the last, well that is right in 2006 people got used to having the lance just on the board that directly on the board on. now it's, it's up to about people, lots of padding on the web for setting to, for the olive harvest later on, they would find it,
1:51 pm
they would have allowed to fit. then this was the main income for families. yeah. and the salis, i'm also for the family, is around 11 on what's main here on this in the south, on the border. people waiting this season now with this situation and with, as well as targeting agriculture allowance, open done streeves. this is becoming very complicated. either the lance of borne by the is really showing that people can come to this uh side of the border in order to harvest or to, to, to bring the all live and you know, whatever the they need. so this is creating a situation where there's more pressure, especially that's reno live in. it's been going through economy hardships over the past 34 years. and this used to have people here in the south to get some more income so that the seas and all of the season with maybe uh, uh, 3 or $4000.00 for a normal time. it is a yeah, this would mean a lot in such situation now with these money gone and know they have to pay more
1:52 pm
money because some of the space going to find me, the man. but as in all the cities, all having to live on the, on their own or living in government show does in schools in cities like sort or novelty or they do it. and it has been forced air in the correct and southern level . thank you. so let's recap the lights and stuff until the end goal is that the health ministry has just announced that at least $8005.00 palestinians have been killed and israel's foaming of gauze since the will began october. the 7th, it says 112 being killed and the occupied westbank in every 3 weeks. and 2 palestinian prisoners died and is ready custody. israel says that was due to natural causes. these are the government says mold in 1400 is right. these were killed and how much is tuck 3 weeks ago as well. let's bring it up that are in again, middle east professor, the georgetown university. let's just take the conversation sliding towards the lebanese area because in nothing yahoos press conference yesterday,
1:53 pm
when he was talking about her mouse, he said 90 percent of the funding comes from iran, or all it has cost associations with has below, who operates in southern lebanon. where these clashes all going on right now is a very delicate picture of how the situation can exacerbate a very short period of time if all the states act is not controlled in some shape or form. yeah, certainly, i mean there, there is this kind of fear this uh, idea that perhaps this could expand into some sort of regional conflict that would involve many other actors. we know the us is also ramped up its presence in the mediterranean and in across different states. in this region where it has a presence already, we know iran and certainly the language that's coming out of the leadership. there has been very much attempting to draw certain red lines that as far as what this means for goes up. but i think this is really where the conversation always turns back, which is depending on,
1:54 pm
on how things on folding and continued to escalate in the days ahead will determine the potential involvement of all of these other other actors. and i think this is why it's so urgent for this, the will of the one security or the un general assembly rather than the security council as it was expressed and that resolution demanding an immediate cease fire. and certainly the escalating the situation in response largely obviously to the mass casualties that are being reported at of kaiser. what sort of strings does, has blog have in terms of, i mean, we don't, we do specifics all the time really with, with groups like this. but in terms of the impact that they have sent me in southern lebanon, it's very strong. the, when it comes to the, the potential for this ongoing scottish with, with israel in its northern border. it is that at the moment, isn't that it is bubbling under. yeah, certainly, i mean, i think, you know, people generally take the 2006 where is a frame of reference one in which, although there was mass devastation within lebanon. but certainly the,
1:55 pm
the kind of outcome tended to be that there was a, an ability to repel the incursion on the part of the liberties you know, forces there. and so i think in that sense, there's a assumption that in that span of time in the last 1617 years that their capabilities have only expand it. and so i think this is why there's, there's probably this sense of caution that we're seeing both on the part of israel, not necessarily wanting to expand to a northern front one in which it was public face and much more capable opposition. then it's what it's a custom to in terms of guys are given the fact that obviously it's besieged and far more limited in terms of capability. so i think in that sense there is this kind of attempt to establish a sort of deterrent capability through these kind of sporadic skirmishes. the sporadic attacks that we're seeing, obviously now it's even implicating united nations facilities that are there that are being showered by israel as well. i'm. we've seen the killing of a journalist with simply their reporting in the south of loving on just
1:56 pm
a couple of weeks ago. so certainly the, the escalation has been there, although it hasn't unfolded into an all out come close in the past couple of days. we've also seen the us take action saying it's independent of what's going on in gaza. but hitting bases and locations. that's our affiliated to radian backed groups. so there is a social scenario of always talking about like proxy will a proxy scenario. and again how, how, how, how important is a, it's, and how dangerous all way at the position of getting that parties involved like a wrong. and the us into something that perhaps could be contained or could be solved. yeah, i mean, i think again it goes back to this idea of whether there will be a real political will for a cease fire then in the kind of coming hours and days. i think this is why it's so crucial to kind of be pushing this, this specific position that we've seen, the 120 nations i've signed onto this. and the last you, in general assembly vote for that statement. and yet we're not seeing the political
1:57 pm
will on the part of the parties that are actually in a position to implement this lead, obviously by the us given its position. it's use of veto power in the security council. and of course, the fact that it continues to allow for israel to commit the mass atrocities and gaza. and so i think depending on how things escalate, there certainly will be, can see a much more frightful uh, escalation in, in the days ahead. i'll do that. laurie is associate professor hope at least history. georgetown university thanks very much for joining us and picking who's very difficult and problematic scenario for us. thank you very much. and that's it from me. so rahman for this particular news, i will continue our extensive and ongoing coverage of the will in garza and my colleague, this task it takes we back in the mainland for more of today's news will leave you with the live pictures from gaza while you can still see the claims of smoke have some thoughts. i hope the strip, as israel continues,
