10:00 pm
[000:00:00;00] the the, [000:00:00;00] the alarm serial then yeah, it's good to have you with us. this is the news our lives from the coming up in the next 16 minutes from us release is 12 captives on the 5th day of a ceasefire with israel and exchange. 30 palestinian prisoners are set to be handed over to the red cross. the c i chief along with the heads of intelligence from
10:01 pm
israel and egypt or in katara to discuss the possible further extension of the gaza ceasefire and the world health organization. ones more people in golf could die from disease then from the is really palming. it's calling for the reopening of all shift hospitals. so these really military says 12 additional captives have now been released by home us and have less gaza. they include 10 is released into foreign nationals. they were released by the military wing of hamas into the custody of the red cross. israel says that they are on their way to is really territory. and in the occupied west bank now dozens of palestinian families are waiting anxiously for news of the release of their loved ones from his really jails. a team from the red cross is at o for prison. this has been the case the last few evenings 30 palestinian prisoners are set to be freed today. now that is really captive have been released by
10:02 pm
a mouse, which are stratford is standing by in the occupied westbank for news on those palestinian prisoners. first though, let's speak to sarah. hi, right. who's in the tel aviv? so sorry, the captives have been handed over to the red cross the on the there on the egyptian side of that border crossing the roof a crossing at this stage. this is, i dare say, a pretty well rehearsed scenario. what happens to them from here on the that's right. now we know that that wrong, the way of why the egyptians to be handed over to these ratings and then eventually they'll make it the they'll make their way to israel through a set for border crossing. the drill has usually been that they would then be flying from the military and is ready minutes free base to any of the forensic mates at hospitals. so there's a number of them. but every single day has slightly been different depending on who's been released,
10:03 pm
who's more critical. and then you have one of the days where some of them are released in central cross rather than closer to the rock crossing. but so in terms of those of currently been released, one of them is a teenager. the rest, all women of the cats off foreign ministry has also sweets and say that since then also one austrian citizen to origin, simians, and a filipino citizen is amongst those that have been released. now in terms of the, the ages you'll see here that they are old uh, uh, the women. whereas in the last few days, they've been seeing a lot small children now. but somebody here in the square there are big questions being raised because it seems there are still a couple of babies. the youngest being a 10 months a year old and. 8 questions as to why they haven't been released yet. and so i know the homeless has released dozens of is really captives over the last 5 days.
10:04 pm
now we're starting to get a somewhat better picture of what their captivity has been like, what have you learned over the last few days? oh yeah, absolutely. well, the story is coming through slowly and that's because the all of those how cats, of austin, take him to the hospitals to be reunited with that family members. they all have to undergo medical and physical and psychological checks and to ensure that they all ready to go home. but just uh leah, one of those that was released. right. so the beginning and 85 year old woman is a fast uh, 2 i it should be come annoying people here and well, it's become known as hosp square where families are rallying and holding sits, ends every single day. and they say they will continue to be here on sunday until all of those are cap says are released. and of course as a massive media sprung to try and speak to her and he has thoughts. and the,
10:05 pm
the understanding is that her husband is still being held captive. and in terms of his testimony, is that you would just ask me about, um, there's been various stories. uh, the latest is that one of the kids was made to see the videos of what happens on october 7. of course, it's very hard to verify that because, you know, we certainly haven't been able to speak to any of the concepts and those that were at least held captive just yet, but also on the details of them saying that they've been in these because um, the type of food they were eating and the general day today. uh what, how, what the situation was like, for example, no electricity pump from austin. sometimes 2 hours. but people are moving costs that they're looking for. they want to know whether the men are going to be released if there is a potential extension to this, to day extension for the c spy on already this talk, swelling around the room is and is writing. these are reporting. 6 that to on confirmed minutes resources. so those are in the know,
10:06 pm
are saying that there potentially could be an extension for only looking up to 10 days. well now we are on day 6, that was a fine the correction that would leave us with 5 more days. but again, it's still unconfirmed, but it's still not clear. but one thing that is such an is that people are telling us that there are, those are still quite vulnerable that needs to be released sooner rather than later . and then of course, the next, once the women and children have been released, the hope is that it will be men, sir. i wonder what these really public wants and what your sense is of that because these really government says it's ready to start the war again. as soon as the ceasefire ends, but at the same time, it's actively negotiating to extend the ceasefire. so what do is really want of the general public opinion here is that how mosse has to go on. so certainly the lines that the government and the ministry has constantly reiterated in just early a hearing again, once again from the dining hall. gary,
10:07 pm
the spokesman for the minute tree is that that remains the ultimate goal that they need to get rid of. come off to ensure that it's not quite not, it doesn't happen ever again in terms of what the families of thinking right now. it doesn't seem to be that they won't not find things to stocks again, because if that happens there is uh potential but their own relatives could get killed in those as strikes. and they just want to insure as the number one priority is that the family members that relative to make it time. i know we were talking to one lady who's a friend of a family of an a c o p. and that was and is really a c o 2. and that was a kid not to years ago. and he's still held in captivity in gauze or. and they're saying that it's not just the ones that are being housed account, say right now from october 7th, but you have 2 others. one is the, is really a 1010, and the other one is a better one. and they say that they still know what, what happens to them. and again,
10:08 pm
bad hope things are bodies to meant which principle, so potentially if you're released, when hopefully more they, as they say, more will be released on the, than just the women and children. know sarah, hi, right, reporting from televi. thank you very much for that. sorry, it's 9 pm where you are. that means and we just learned that these really captives have been released now from gaza. they're on the egyptian side of the roof of border crossing your with the i c r c. it could be a couple hours yet before they are flown over to, to leave or it's surroundings. thank you very much. now let's go to charles stratford in ramallah. charles, so there's no sign of the palestinian prisoners being released yet, which is broadly in line with what we've seen the last few days. right. once we learned that is really they've been released from gaza. it usually takes a few hours for palestinian prisoners to then be released. that's right, and it's very easy to over the last few nights what we do now is it the 30 palestinians on this list that are expect you to be released?
10:09 pm
15 women and 15 minus we understand between the ages of 17 and 14, the youngest was you understand or, or yes, old males. all the women have been arrested since october the 2nd since slow time as attacks and the beginning of the war. we know that all the young men were arrested quite considerably, some of them before that. and as i say, the youngest of those is full teen. and as you rightly say, it usually takes at least a couple of hours for certainly the boss to, to leave all for and to get to the meeting point, which is here, where we're standing here in ramallah. now that had been the hopes that this evening might be different, around offer prison and they wouldn't be the bottom body is right, the middle tree being committed to be seen over the last couple of nights now. you know, just to put this in context certainly 2 nights ago when we were that it was a small group. all palestinian use that welling rocks towards the ministry from
10:10 pm
hill top down towards offer prison and they were dealt with ways level bullets and to take guess how we have a the night that we would that they would very, very few people expect the media and indeed we had a team member that was injured in those in other times by the is where the ministry to move the media or long there was a person killed that last night that we're now hearing reports from people we know by the prison that you have to gain the 2 guys is being fired. we understand possibly as a rubber bullets also being used. it seems that these right is a certainly intent on stopping any kind of celebrations by palestinians, close to all the prison where those prisoners will be released to be seeking them. using all homage, bulldoze is all over the last couple of nights as well to move a civilian call of destroying civilian property in that area. so that's a, that's a great concern on coal. she's paying another 24 hours of is right. even if he rides right the way um, various locations across the occupied west bank note,
10:11 pm
typically the channel to boss with it was a teenager killed earlier today. i'm also in a village very close to ramallah, another teenager killed in a rage and say we're literally in the last sort of half an hour or so. hearing that there is an ongoing miniature here in hebron to the south of fi. i'm also jeanine. so just to bring you up to date in terms of fig goes in terms of the amount of palestinians it'd been arrested and killed since october. the 7th um arrested in the west bank. now we're now looking at, according to the palestinian prisoner association. 3290 palestinians, arrested since october the 7th, 242 killed, a 168 arrested since the cx 5 began. and those debts there was $240.00
10:12 pm
killed. that actually includes 6 palestinians that have died during the being in custody and is ready to jail since october. the 7th now shall zeros charles stratford reporting from ramallah there in the occupied west bank. thank you very much. i want to go inside the gaza strip. now to our cup was whom it is an hon. you'd historic since we just received the news and the confirmation that these really captives have been released from gaza handed over to the i c r c. i just wonder at this hour, what are palestinians saying about all of this? they've seen this happen for 4 or 5 days. and i understand that they're going to have many more pressing concerns, frankly, finding food to eat water, to drink, shelter for the night, etc. but i also wonder what the conversation is among palestinians in gaza about these captives being released the yes, generally off top, the release of a 10 is very hostage alongside with to offer nationals. uh to the uh,
10:13 pm
he's ready sides on an exchange as well. were released a 30 pounds thing, and the thing is from the hispanic j as including 16 children and also 15 uh women in the last of their release present is from the is when he jails. now palestinians have most sense of relief in comparison with the past days, where they witness a relentless is very strikes that destroyed old means of life, the destruct buildings, residential slots in civil infrastructure. and by the city of norman, let's say a lot yourselves and milestones of living and been in the north and central areas of golf. the city now palestinians are really comfortable in terms of the extension of the ceasefire. and the continuation of the release of these really captives inside the goal is a simple had been captured through during come us attack on the board is on the october the 7th now clearly policy and wants to have more days of truth as the hostages can be released and even kind of bring an end to the devastation of the on site inside the gaza strip. now the major concentration in the, in the normal hours of the day, is to collect and to gather food,
10:14 pm
essential items in, in the, in terms of the possibility of their renew, financing between come off. and he's reflect generally with the diplomatic efforts made by different regional values in the region and also headed bike to top. it'd be believe dr. they are going to be much more days of choose that to go bring an end to the i'm but the majority of them, despite what they have witness of during the last couple of weeks. the believe that it will bring an end for the devastation that they have lives at as a hope that they can might really one day return back again to the houses to get, to rebuild what's had been destroyed and to come back or to life. come back normally again in psych garza's trip. so it would be clearly see this a release on the continuation of extinction and of ceasefire could be a very the windows hope for them in order to end the aggression on the gauze district. and also to have an opportunity to be away from the east bed. a written system bought meant that took place for long days. the site, the gaza strip. sorry,
10:15 pm
a combo zoom reporting from han eunice. thank you very much there tart? no, i wanna bring it. omar, sure more your military and security professor doha institute for graduate studies . i'd like us to look at those pictures that we just received. they're similar to the pictures we've had the last 5 days of these really captives being released by him. us into the custody of the i, c r c cross throughout the border crossing, etc. i wonder is a security analyst? is there anything that you learn from watching this footage spelt as its parts a staged, right? yeah. or mostly staged, but you can tell that would say probably heavily st. heritage, i see drone shots. yeah. but you, but you can say a few things. one of them well that they are a, they are in armor and uniform with insignia is with flags, with head bins. and so, well they're, they're, they're in a case $74.00 is which is $5.00 to $5.00 millimeters. it's so it's in terms of what
10:16 pm
those are the salt rest, right. that's the correct. yeah. and this whole trifles. so the, the, the, the number that maybe you know, to me, by the way, what does that, what did those numbers don't mean anything to me? what does that tell you? so it's a of the month crushing call for the a k $74.00, which is produced in 1974 to end the year. so it's more updated than the 47th and the older versions. but also it's a, the, a k 74, it's 5 to 5 millimeters. so against the body armor, they're more effective. so the, you know, that's why i think i saw i wasn't clear because it was of the dock, but i think i saw a name for as well, which is 80 and the american assault rifle. so maybe they captured it from somewhere, but more spam. i hold on just a 2nd, i'm saying i'm sorry to do this to you. um, but i want to go to. busy our correspondence mom injunction, we'll come back to this because i want to know everything that you're seeing on those pictures. but as i said, elses here is mohamed geometry room is. well mohammed, you're going to tell us where you are,
10:17 pm
i'm guessing occupied east jerusalem. but uh, but please do confirm that and tell me who you are with as well. that's right. so we are in a neighborhood knocked by the series and we are at the house of a 14 year old palestinian boy named who has been in administer just the 10 shy 4 months now. he is scheduled to be released a bit later this evening. let me just show you around a little bit as if you can just move the camera. friends, family, a lot of media all here right now because they're waiting to re payments and they might not how much about 11 months ago, he was accused of throwing rocks towards cars full of settlers in injuring a female settler in this neighborhood. he was 1st put under house arrest for 6 months, and then he was taken to jail and he's been in jail for 5 months now. he's one of 3 cousins that live in this neighborhood on this block that are supposed to be
10:18 pm
released tonight among those 30 pallets in the prisoners that are expected to be released in the next couple of hours now. and what we're hearing from his family, and what we've also seen ourselves is the police have been circulating around this area for hours. now, we were told the se, rated the house, the apartment upstairs from here a few hours ago. and just as we were driving to this area, we were also seeing police as they were leaving, seeming to put check points up. they were also going to other houses. we're told we were wondering if they were going to start kicking out the media because there were some reports that they were telling media in other houses in the neighborhood to get out of there. and that's really in line with what we see in the past few days early you and i were discussing this just yesterday about the fact that even me and my team of the course of the past few days. we've gone people's houses, house any and prisoners and their families and we've been and some of those houses when the security forces have come in and told the media that they need to get out of the times. it's been quite aggressive as well. so that's where we're at at this
10:19 pm
hour. a lot of expectation for everybody we've spoken with. they are happy about the fact that i promote and his cousins are expected to be released. but they're also a bit tense because they have been sold along with all the other pilots in these and living large party service learning, the prisoners that were going to be released and their families that have a celebrate that if they celebrate outside of their home or inside of their homes that there will be a crack down to that will not be tolerated. and that there in lies really the dilemma for these people at a time when they should be able to have a collective sigh of relief. say basically can't do that. and they say that speech to be in dignity, say stuff are on a daily basis as probably 0. it's mom and several questions. the 1st of all, do you think you're going to be allowed to stay there? because as you and i have been discussed, you have been discussing last few days, you've been kicked out of those family reunions and such that you weren't able to film that moment. and this was pretty deliberate and intentional. as you're reporting showed on the part of the is really security forces over the last few days. so that's number one. do you think you're going to be able to stay there?
10:20 pm
number 2, what of these really security forces, raid the apartments of the people that they are going through on these? maybe not all, but they have done. it's not the 1st time there's a pattern of this happened. why do they do this? i'm sorry, 0. that last question, i need you to repeat again. why do we raise the question is why do they, why do they re the apartments of people they are about to release? one of the reasons is that over the course of the past few days, when we find out the prisoners have to be released. there are a lot of journalists who go to those homes because they want to speak to the family members. we want to interview the prisoners who have just been released and these really security forces, the police. they do not want the journalists in those areas. so they come in, they tell the journalist if they have to leave now, we're a bit surprised at this hour because there are a lot of journalists in this house and over the course for the past few days, on several occasions where journalists have been gathering the police have been
10:21 pm
quick to come in and tell them to leave. that happened to us a few nights ago. it's happened to several of our colleagues last night. we were on our way to an area where there was a person who was going to be released. and before we got there, as a journalist, we're all kicked out of that house. and one of the reasons for that is because there was this decree from the far right wing national security minister. it's more been here. he has sold all the house. and as we mentioned before in areas under history, 16 which includes off by the 1st one that there are to be no public displays of any kind of festivity. there's not going to be any kind of celebration that's going to be allowed. so they basically what we're told by palestinians we meet is that they have been warned that they are not to be speaking. several of them are said they feel that they're not supposed to speak to the media. many of them have said that they've been warned not to post anything on social media. and a lot of them have also been told that they are not to be engaging in any kind of publish activities. so they really worry about what's going to happen the days ahead. many of them that we've spoken with have said that they're worried that potentially the been arrested again in the days to come see if they essentially are
10:22 pm
seen as stepping out of line. and these boundaries that they've been gibbons, they're quite worried, they're worried about what's going to happen. and again, this speaks to a moments when they are experiencing some form of happened is being reunited with loved ones, but many of them haven't seen for either months or years. and the message that they're getting is you can't be that happy and you can't show it when you have to stay inside these lines that we have put around you that. so that's where we're at right now. now there's still to be photos in the hours to come 0, i mean, you never know until these pretty well actually released. so i went around there about sounds here is this house has fairly relax and they are expecting that these kids will be released. i wanted to ask you specifically about that just that this short window between now and the moment when they are actually reunited with their relative the next 2 hours. how does that work?
10:23 pm
are they going to get a phone call confirming that their relative is released? then how does that person actually get home all of that. so the process that we've been told about is that relatives, let's just move out of the way. so some people can get around this. ok, sorry, that's very crowded in your serial. a lot of people trying to walk around this lot of family members as well. so we have to try to be accommodating. now, the process that we've been told about not many, many relatives of prisoners is that either the father or the mother. he is called by these really police forces and that they are told they are summoned to the main detention facility in west jerusalem. they go to that area that compound, they stay there for hours. they're told all of us that we use for all of them that we've spoken. we say that they have their phones complicated and they're basically interrogated. they're asked a lot of questions about their loved ones and they get indications their family members will be released in the hours to come. and then they sit and wait. and then later on in the evening, those family members finally are transferred to that area. i'm talking just about
10:24 pm
the prisoners who reside in occupied these routes live not the occupied west, and we're talking just about oxide eastern response. so the relative living outside the source, when they go to this compounds in western responds, they wait there for hours and then eventually their loved ones are transferred. there they are released. they are given into the custody of their loved ones. and then they are brought home. but what we've been see the last few days is that several times throughout the day with the relatives that we've been speaking much is that they are visiting repeatedly 5 is really the least that they come to the homes, not just one journalists are there even before that they ask extended family members to be. then when journalists are there, they ask the journalists to lead. they want the neighborhood cleared the for these to, for these to leave. this is the mother of the boy. we just want to make room for her anyway. and then eventually, eventually they are able to come back to their homes. now, some of these, these prisoners were told from family members, they're worried about staying in areas particularly in occupied east jerusalem,
10:25 pm
where there might be a settlers and they're worried. there might be reprisals that they face so some of them have actually moved from those neighborhoods after they've even got to their family home it's, it's a fairly complicated process. it's brought with a lot of difficulties with a lot of tension. and, and again, just to reiterate at a time when these folks want to have a reunion, they want to celebrate with their family members. they just don't feel like they can do so properly. so the moms whom thank you very much i, i, we, we understand is crystal clear. everything that happens for the of those families before their relatives are detained and over the next few hours as well. we'll talk to you again throughout the evening. thanks mama or okay, i wanna resume that conversation we were having with you omar amar sure. military and security professor at the doha institute of graduate studies. you were, we were watching together the pictures of the release of the captives. right? um, so its how most release is captives provides the footage then on the other side of
10:26 pm
the roof of border crossing. we get footage um sometimes from uh, usually from an egyptian network. and, and so we have this kind of idea of what it looks like at that specific point in time, right? we're seeing the pictures again, my question to you was, what do you learn as a security analyst? bearing in mind, it is, as you said, heavily uh, staged in choreographed but there are still elements for you to dissect. yeah. that there are still elements from, from what i see. so we saw before maybe the, that picture the before that there was a some of the i must either now. uh so you see them in uh, uniform body armor. and sydney is a head bins. uh also you see here uh, a 74. so assault rifles. uh, so you educated me, that's an upgrade of the a k 47. yeah, that's the, the newer version's, not the most. it's not the newest version, but it's one of the newer version. and the difference is that it's, uh,
10:27 pm
it's $5.00 to $5.00 millimeters, so it's a, it's actually, it's better in terms of perhaps space rating, some of the weaker body arms. and so that on one end, but this does not tell you much, right? so we don't know much about the force structure that is left me. we don't know much about the force design. we don't want to know much about the uh, the, the, the force quantities you know, because you do is your, your top guys in mclean. and in these fights, so we don't know much in that in that sense. but what we do know, 2 things. one is that the command and control structure seems to me is still there . and in fact, how about in terms of i'm us, i'm, it seems to me they're able to project sorry to interrupt, but they're able to project at least some measure of discipline. and as you said, there's the uniform, the equipment it, they do not look in these pictures, which again are very stage, but they do not look like a separate exam or like them. and they should, they look more and more like
10:28 pm
a centralized on formation a unit and some regular on, in a new way. so that's one, but also the, the, the other bit is that this seems to me that the ground lines of communications between solved guns and those guys are still there because of what you saw before hostages in, in, in areas is being delivered in and yeah, oh, yes, yes. oh, i'm pretty sure about that. this was what 2 or 3 days ago captives were released in it. northern gaza. so this is obviously the part of the gaza strip, where israel said that they have complete control. it turns out that there were captives, right? there yeah, well it's, i, i don't think they believe they, they said they have control. i don't think they believe that because there's still operations going on in places where they did not attempt to fully control, but they, they, they passed to it. so the attempt to this, to do this from the run from the, from the east of, uh, very far east of guys uh to the sea. uh they, they moved everything in their way,
10:29 pm
but they did not clear enough or they not sweep off towards. and they may have misspoke and i, they, these really said how much this is no longer in control of the gaza strip. i believe those were their words, but clearly we saw that they almost retained enough control in some pockets of gaza to be able to release captives from there. that's true, that's true. which tells me also that the ground lines the well, the commander control structure is still there. and also the ground lines of communication between the north and the south is still there. and 30. so i'm off created the it geography to defend guys a new way, which is to stop to the indian. uh, i live in the tunnel networks. but now i think israel in, in this type of warfare because of the level of destruction, created a geography above the ground, which is that all the bubble is becoming like more hills. more holes. this, this feeling the defenders side, especially if you fights like earlier low. yes. the destruction is favoring. how much? yeah. the one you don't have anyway. yeah. your uncle's building or your answer uh, you know,
10:30 pm
shop is not destroyed so we don't have much to lose one. but most importantly, they can hide in the rubble much better if you're fighting like a good hello or this mounted infantry. either these are more. busy places uh more arm or for you that are all those traits armor for you. it's very difficult to to shoot through it so you can hide behind it as creates more favorable, defending and, and wishing positions for, for the defender side. but also a is worried about the casualties, so they need to keep the most of the soil. it's mechanized infantry. right? so you stay inside the armored vehicle inside the tank. the movement though is more difficult because of the amount of trouble, the movement of the tanks and of the all of the infantry fighting vehicles and of the seas of the on the official carriers is more and more difficult in the rubble. so we need to this moment need to get out as a soldier to create an area. and now that's, that becomes almost a fed fight. now you're starting, you're starting to level the playing field. yeah. in a way,
10:31 pm
um and also in terms of them just sticks these ground lines of communication. the thing this instead exist until now. i think they will make some supplies from the south to the north and from the north to the north because they're not destroyed yet. so you can move the unit set on, move munition around, you can move it units, it has like le, got edited in terms of its manpower. it's a 5 power then you can always supply from another unit and, and keep this takes going on. i was, as was saying before, omar bradley, the famous world war, 2 general, had a saying, you know, strategies for amateurs and the logistics is for professionals. so if you, if you can, so sustain the, the, the logistical ground lines of communications of your units, then you can stay in the fight a lot longer. okay, i can't say i was familiar with that quote, i'm are sure. thank you very much for joining us. in the program, so my pleasure on the heads of the ca and is really intelligence agency have arrived in doha. so talks with kentoria officials,
10:32 pm
they're also joined by the chief of the egyptian spies agency. guitar has been the main mediator in negotiations with how most of the release of is really captive, and palestinian prisoners also guitar as ministry of foreign affairs. as the focus is on extending the ceasefire at the moment and securing a permanent solution to the concept, wouldn't been this the, the method. it's indeed the with respect to the extension of the ceasefire. the state of kata has been working from day one of these crisis to intensify mediation efforts with the aim of reaching a truce and then a permanent ceasefire. the extension we have in place now was part of the agreement with extension depends on the release of 10 captives by a moss on a daily basis. and we have confirmation that 20 can be released in the next 48 hours. in the meantime, we will closely with, with the consent parties to have the cruise extended invitation for the confirmation from us that they will continue to release cap tips that speak to our

a moment ago. about to you already receiving reports from does up on the emergence of these diseases. for example, we have received a report on a diarrhea cases acute diarrhea cases. and these can be particularly a dangerous in small children who don't have a strong community and is there is no, not full food that we have heard from our colleagues on the wilson program. there is a, a serious risk of mt latrice and that's a major problem. even bigger. there's also reports of a respiratory infection. this is where people are in a crowd with the area. things of the temperatures are getting a molar and that increases the x rays. and also because people are in call the settings that there are, there is a risk of lice and other skin diseases that because people are not. hi
10:41 pm
jenny, this is just, this is, there's only one shower for 4500 people. and there's only one toilets, you need to more than 200 people right now in this folder color settings so. so this is increasing risk of football diseases on top of the injuries fugitive obama . the united nations general assembly is holding a special session on the situation, gaza allison, you and, and baset are we have months or address members calling for a permanent ceasefire and an end to these really occupation only tools could allow sincere efforts to begin to address the humanitarian catastrophe being inflicted by is the end of the occupying power in gaza. only a truce could lead to that a lease of people headed in captivity and avoid that region. an escalation.
10:42 pm
this throws, must dead into a pattern and sees fire. the mask that goes of palestinian children, women and men cannot resume, should not throw as you own. you should not allow it to do as you we've also heard from tarzan bass over to the united nations who called for a criminal investigation into israel's actions in gauze. what you have for the don't have caught on it. the state of cock tart reiterates its condemnation of the rules international crimes committed by the as rady occupation. i guess the brother, the people of palestine, we condemn in the strongest terms, the stomach targeting of hospitals, schools and residential areas in gaza. this is hating this violation of international laws and conventions, especially the full for geneva conventions. we re, to re, to our coal, to establish on the international committee to investigate the crimes committed by that is where you all could patient

a guests. ivonya is in the gaza strip. let's take the gabriel. as on the gabriel, you're joining us live from un headquarters in new york. i wonder if you will. first of all, tell us what's happening today in terms of the general assembly, what they're actually doing, the process of it. but also more broadly, i was wondering if you could speak to the the site where, where's the center of gravity? of of feeling in the international community at this point in the war. oh yeah, that's a good question. the 1st one is, what is this meeting that's actually happening? it's just a general assembly meeting. it's a, a normally regularly scheduled meeting if you will, to kind of deal with the overall palestinian question as they call it, visa, visa, united nations. and these every year. and this one of course, takes on added significance given the situation. there's not going to be any sort of vote on any resolution in the general assembly. they already did that several weeks ago and booted over whelming lead to essentially condemned israel's
10:44 pm
bombardment of guys and call for a pause again. that was several weeks ago. so there's gonna be no voting or anything like that. this is more of a chance for member states that want to discuss or to give statements about the israel guys of situation to do so. and there are more than 40 countries on the speakers list. we got through about half of them so far in the morning session. now to your other question, where is a saturday center of gravity, if you will, on where the member states are feeling about this situation. you can sort of summarize it there from the palestinian and bastard. a lot of other countries we heard speak. we're sort of echoing his sentiments, calling for a more sustainable ceasefire. that's number one. and really trying to do that and sees the opportunity in his positive fighting right now to really do that. now on wednesday, we'll be having more diplomacy here at the un when the chinese foreign minister will be sharing
10:45 pm
a high level un security council meeting here with other 4 administers as well, where there will be discussing the situation in gaza. and perhaps another security council resolution. okay, well maybe there's part of the answer to what i wanted to ask you next, which are what are the next steps at the you, when? what should or of yours expect from, you know, the from, from the united nations at this stage and the conflict, given that there's already been a general assembly resolution and the resolution from the un security council, or keep your eye on the security council even more that 1st resolution that we got from the security council after i think it was for that failed was a start. but there's a consensus within the us and that that was not enough to just called for humanitarian court orders. and in some ways we're already past that. so now what we're looking at is, again, keep your eye on the security council because any resolution from there is legally
10:46 pm
binding international law. and you're starting to hear a consensus or some talk behind the scenes of maybe trying to kind of find a more permanent ceasefire. of course that something is real would probably not agree to, of course, but they're not on the security council, but the united states is, and the us has veto power. and the us usually what channel, what is real ones? and it's vote on the security council. so again, the security council is key in terms of what they discuss and what the potentially could bring up to about a china is the rotating, has a rotating presidency of the security council this month. but again, this meeting on wednesday there is going to be 4 administers in town representing their countries on the security council. so it just gives you an idea of how significant this meeting is and how urgent security council members see it being. okay, roger,
10:47 pm
that gabriel is on the reporting from new york un thank you very much. and the war and gaza is high. the high up on the agenda and a nato summit. foreign ministers, a gathering, and brussels for the 2 day meeting. the head of the meeting secretary general in stoughton virg met us secretary of state anthony blinking and describe the ceasefire as a positive development. it all comes extension of uh uh, the tulsa overstate. it is in gall, solve the sauce allowed for. uh, i'm actually the relief for the people over golf signed also that it is over more than hostages. and let me thank you for being control and therefore your personal efforts to ensure that this will happened on the agreement that was reached. we can go back live, the officer was mohammed john schuman occupied east jerusalem mohammed. you were, you started to tell us what it was like, where you are with the family of a 14 year old prisoner who's expected to be released. and just for perspective,
10:48 pm
oh really, i'll reiterate, this is 14 years old and he is the youngest policy and prisoner to be released today. and that's what we're told 0. and let me just explain what's happening right at this moment. um, it's gotten much more intense around here because there are police forces in the area. the family is saying that they've entered the compound the they've gone potentially upstairs against the upstairs apartment. and there is concern. i must have it here right now that perhaps they will come into the house once more. now let me just have either show you the camera here. let me just show you how it, how the atmosphere is changed. you and i were talking. what? 1015 minutes ago you saw that there were people that were sitting around us. uh the atmosphere was relaxed. uh we saw family members a. hm. and uh, so they might, he's the 14 year old is expected to be released. we also saw friends, they were here because they wanted to have a moment to celebrate. they wanted to welcome this boy back,
10:49 pm
even though they don't know exactly what time he's going to arrive. we knew that earlier in the day of the security forces had come here, they had gone to the apartment upstairs. they had been surrounding the area and within just a couple of minutes every, the change because from the security cameras on the side you started seeing hold on just a minute. uh, serial because were told that i might need to be quiet on one second. is there any update about? all right, so we're good for now. in any case, you just see how moment by moment things change, especially for these family members who want to have a moment to prove, to welcome back their loved ones and they don't know what it's going to be like. they don't know if their house is going to be rated. they don't know. if the journalists who have assembled here are going to be kicked out, they don't know if extended family members that have assembled here are going to be kicked out. they don't know, as they tell us, they say that's repeated. they don't, they don't know what kind of harassment they made a face. it's something that causes a great deal was, is sorry, sir, we're thankful we need to quiet down again. we're just not happy looks hate this
10:50 pm
2nd by 2nd here. no, as there is hate, just wondering what you need. and if we need to whisper will whisper, that's fine. we're watching the live shot mohammed and we understand the context of everything here has been explaining it's um, so this is a 14 year old boy who is about to be released. and as you've explained these really, a law enforcement has been extremely sensitive about how many people are allowed to be in those houses, whether there is allowed to be celebrations. and usually the fact is that there they haven't allowed family media to be there. just briefly, mohammed, even as we continue to watch this, just okay, i'm here in total silence on your end. what's really gonna have to probably move because there's a knock at the door. please give us a minute. okay. you can see how they were one moment on the door. it's fine given what's happening mom and i
10:51 pm
think we can all understand that you're not in a position to read it. it's okay. we're not going to ask you to like, comment this getting especially everything is happening. so we're still watching your show and visions. but we're not gonna ask you to talk. we just heard somebody obviously. yeah, sure, sure everybody. so don't worry about that. well, we're watching. what's happening just so you know, we can see you when we're watching, what's happening is actually we're pretty to a pretty extraordinary moment right now. and this is showing us everything that you have been telling us was happening over the last few days. you've been describing it, but we had not seen this until now. so again, for our viewers, just joining us, we're watching the live shot of our team on the ground, the image. i'm assuming the vision there and that camera, that camera work is showing us everything is happening. we're inside the family home of the, of the, of a 14 year old palestinian prisoner who is going to be released later today has not
10:52 pm
yet been released. we would expect that to happen in a few hours and what you're seeing there is to the family relatives, friends, the media. everybody has just gone quiet. everybody's gone silently. and this is in line with what mohammed has been reporting the last few days or oh yeah, go ahead or oh, if i can just like i can just was very quickly because they are insisting quiet and we obviously have to respect that there is a lot of concern that this home could with no late at the moment, and they're telling the folks next to the door not to open the door. so they're just going to have to stay quiet. you can watch what uh, what positives capturing on his camera will update. you with details and as we get, you know, absolutely mom and we're, we're staying with this a little while longer and we completely understand and appreciate your contacts that you've, that you've explained for us. i can see that they're at the door. and in fact,
10:53 pm
i find myself with whispering right now, but i'm not in the living room. i, i, um, i can see that there by the door. and they're watching what appears to be their security cameras, which you're giving them. we can see it on your earlier shot, giving them several angles of around their house and i assume around the front door, this is all happening and occupied east jerusalem by the way. um and what my mom has been reporting the last few days. and it's part of that that you're seeing now is this is really security is really police have before they release prisoners who live in the, in occupied east jerusalem before they do that more often than not, they will go in raid the homes, some of those prisoners and then shortly before the prisoners are due to be released. if there are any celebrations within their private family celebrations, or perhaps there's media presence there in the last 2 days,
10:54 pm
police have actually kicked out the media and that's happened to mom and steam as it happens. it has happened to others. and now what we're to live is this moment where the family clearly quite nervous and trying to abide by. i'm not sure if it's a biding by the instruction or just deciding that it is safer to be quiet and disagree, that they have asked everybody in the room to just completely follow silence. so i see a little bit of movement on your end mom and don't if you don't want to answer don't answer. but if you can tell us what's going, all right, we're still be talking to the quiet 0. there's a lot of confusion. some people told we have to cut our feed, we'll get back to you when we can't. absolutely,
10:55 pm
absolutely. we understand the situation that you've been describing to us. and this gives are, are who are as an inside. look at just how tens those moments can be for palestinian families. this is a moment that as mohammed as explained, is a deeply happy one as they are about to be reunited in a few moments or in a few hours with their relatives. in this case with a 14 year old boy who has been held in detention and those moments, i guess we, those moments have been and we have treated pretty much in the way that, that you're seeing right now. which is to say it was, there are no celebrations that have been allowed. and as mom, it has explained to us many times this is actually on the order of his really cabinet minister. it's more been revere who has said that he wants to see no celebrations as palestinian prisoners are released now that hasn't been in for so
10:56 pm
much in the occupied westbank but in occupied east jerusalem. where mohammed is right now, that order has definitely been enforced such that let's, let's listen in just a moment. they're leaving the remaining. ok. all right, so let's try and recap where we are. it's almost 20 gmc, which makes it 10 pm in occupied during east jerusalem, where mohammed and his team are. all right, you're watching that. you're watching the security cameras that are set up inside
10:57 pm
the apartment. and clearly we're seeing the blue flashing lights of what i am pretty sure are is really security vehicles outside their house. and if you're just joining us, that was about maybe 5 minutes ago mohammed was in the middle of explaining to us what was happening, how the family was preparing, and envisioning the release of their 14 year old son and relative or. and then everybody's self quiet. and the reason everybody so quiet is because there has been this, this order by is really law enforcement that there should be no celebrations. there should be no celebrations for the release of palestinian prisoners. keep that in mind for a 2nd. now it's also watch this. so this is in the occupied westbank and this is a bus. you're clearly seeing the logo of the c r c, the international committee of the red cross there in the middle of facilitating
10:58 pm
the release of palestinian prisoners. and what they've been doing night after night is the policy and prisoners are handed over to them to release from his really jails handed over to the i, c r c. and then the i, c r c will drive them to. well, i believe this is ramado, but we'll get confirmation and in just a moment. so. so what you're seeing now or palestinian prisoners about to be released in the occupied westbank. this is the live feed. i beg your pardon, not remotely at the junior, which is just outside the offer security complex to offer security complex again to go through the whole chain. the palestinian prisoners are usually brought to offer if they are already there, off of prison on the day that they're going to be released. then these really authorities wait for the confirmation that these really captives are out of gaza. that confirmation has now come because the red cross said that they had them and
10:59 pm
that they brought them out of gaza. these really captives are on their way to israel. once that happens is really authorities start taking steps to release palestinian prisoners. and that is what we're seeing right now. so be to near, near offer prison. this being, it's a little choppy, but it is the live shot in the occupied westbank. okay, and just a moment we'll be going to our correspondent hold up. they'll have me bear with us, she's just scrambling to get things ready on her end. all of this obviously a rapidly developing situation. so we're are currently on day 5 of the ceasefire. so we had the original 4 days ceasefire and then a 2 day extension. so we're in the 1st half of that extension. 10 is really
11:00 pm
captives are being released as well as 2 foreigners were released today. this and exchange for 30 palestinian prisoners being released okay, i'm told we can go to her that bill, how me down to 0 is for the meat in ramallah. put a we're, we're watching a lot of life pictures right now and just rapidly moving this rapidly moving situation. i thought we are in ramallah. send them off. ok. sorry, we're going back to occupied east jerusalem because this is the life scene of the apartment family. and part of this is, this is just about seeing where everybody has to be silent. so miles the light is just through the
