4:00 am
again, does that because of that huge amount of data in gaza and people here are very mindful of that. but they would tell you that, again, as i was saying earlier, despite the general graphical separation, despite the fact that even within the westbank, they are all these many dogs as, as they say, because it's so difficult to go from one city to the other. and sometimes it's impossible depending on the road closers. well, the old still feels that they're all part of one society. now we're going to see this is another lady has just been released they were a lot of restrictions on the prisoners after the war. they were very harmful to us, they used to your guys on p thing and they took us into a solo dietary confinement and then they,
4:01 am
it was the right and it was every send random also another thing we were not able to follow the news because they took our radios, there is nothing that is no food, no meant this and not even a close. they took a lot of stuff i just threw it in. there are fresh, although to start other stuff were confiscated. they didn't allow us to see our solicitors at the beginning. some people were able to get the news from solicitors, but we were not allowed to seize our lawyers and solicitors anymore. it was like, it was very hard and we didn't know whether we would be released or not they, they've come in the morning and they didn't tell us that we will be released. they would come in the morning and take other people. and they really went in all for with no show or story lights or any for very bad the quality of the food. and then every since, so all the day until the find that at least you said that the
4:02 am
prisoners were taken into says other cells, the where for example, in one cell or something, they try to like change the atmosphere or goose on this. but it was a sing doc might or try to entertain themselves. they go through the tool and take them into solo during 3 confinement. they don't want us even to open our mouse or do any sense. ok. we might have a special considerations. is this something in the prison, you know, test, honestly, the girls who were inside, they were struggling on the administration of the prison. they would allow us not to do any sense. it's only the girls they were determined and they were requesting their own items. otherwise, if the i see that 10,
4:03 am
you can see 30 that the solver also we hired to task from other prisoners. yes, so many people that they, they show us the most straight l z deals made of videos. but the girls would refuse to look at them. they want us to, to send them ourselves. i mean, look what we are going to do to you. diana, chloe moss. so what's next? that's herself, in a very bad way, something i can't even talk about. so this is actually this young lady is called real k. yeah, i'm ro and she is from hebron as i understand it there. and she, you heard her there, how difficult the conditions is now the issue of a sexual violence. and right is something several female prisoners have talked about through their lawyers. and now we're just hearing it for the 1st time. i
4:04 am
please on our microphones from one of the inmates you said it actually did happen to several people. now they used to send us with all the achievement that we have achieved. but currently the prisoners are being deprived of food and they are isolated from the outside work. you are not allowed to go outside the cells. we are isolated all the day with the exception of half an hour for the show reading. and we have no way to communicate with our families. i want to ask you, there was another stay to many different. have you been subject to any friends at the beginning of my a price? the 330 me violently pro totally the interrogation officer.
4:05 am
it took me while i was in hunt costs and my eyes were closed. i couldn't tell who is talking to me. they threaten me of rapes, and they try to claim that they says in response to what happened in cancer. but also it was a clear how brutal the are and their treatment to us to me and to also are prisoners as well. there is no kids in search of the bodies and many prisoners will edge pizza and all i want to hear from you what, where are you a citizen of? i was honestly certain of being raped and they told me i have 20 soldiers who can do that and i can tell you the purpose
4:06 am
was to terrify me. and i refused this through to way of treatment. and i was as threatened that they will go to my house and for my children, i live when i told them how, how do you claim in the front of the world that you told me to target the children . but now you say this to me. he told me i wouldn't be satisfied until i go a 1000 of the children in gaza today. they talked with us as if they told me you are award prisoners to add water prisoners. so there are no laws to protect you on the way we treat you. every cent is possible. and we might do it when we treat with you. when i was moved to the moon, the prison,
4:07 am
and i discovered that really there were female prisoners. and this system i knew might not have been out for the media. many prisoners were beaten up very badly and insulted an old room where thrown with tea and gas. and there were burns and injuries in hand and legs. and they took all their equipments and all the clothes to confirm or deny the prisoners or from a guest. yes, there are female prisoners from the guns lester. we know of 10 of them. they were arrested before the truce 2 days in advance through to, to their way from north to the south. they were arrested randomly, randomly, they arrested the woman and they focused on taking mothers from their children.
4:08 am
one mother said she had, she said she had to leave her children without random person home. she didn't know his identity. and she said, now i need to see my children. one of the mothers was also breast feeding her child when they were separated. we so the way that the president, the soldiers brought in the female prisoners from gatzo. they took off of their head covering, and they give them the prison clothes. and their eyes were covered. and they were isolated from the other female prisoners. they were not allowed to interact with others. they are currently living in a very stressful situation. but the situation might have improved after they arrived to the moon prison. so you are assured that they were at least
4:09 am
10 prisoners female to the nurse from guys. yes, i'm sure on alta has even the names she said we did not hear them because i just heard that you so i mean you, we've just all heard this and you've seen the immediate reaction from the people who are listening. this may be lot of hot that we actually are near to interviewed her daughter. besides saying that in the jane where she was house, they were at least 10 females problem lower than does that work. taking their detained in that same jailer that she sold, that might be hard to describe the seat when they had had we also heard her. i did then very of directly confirming the fact that many of the female inmates had basically received as sexual, correct. uh,
4:10 am
it's quite harsh and quite direct as for the words we've heard there. so these, these are sort of these stories that will go viral here in the occupied westbank and among palestinians really a bit everywhere. whether it's here or that, living around the world. and this doesn't add to the says that palestinians have that they're all is the human eyes that there was pointed the finger at and no one is listening to their part of the stories. no one is listening to what they go through. so certainly a to receive as a small victory to have people out people, most of them have without any charges, they could be helpful as much as they please. then the military court decides to renew those uh, those uh, administrative retention that they called renewable every 6 months for us as long
4:11 am
as you wish. oh so certainly that is happening, but the story is emerging. witnessing where hearing from those former prisoners now the words that go to resonate, certainly among many palestinians but how do we be listening to those stories? we've been listening to them and broadcasting them for 6 days now. and they're still being told behind you that stories that are now becoming familiar because so many of these people say very much the same things they took because you said that about poor conditions in prison, they talk about over crowding. they talk about degrading treatment and we've heard more testimonies like that this evening. many of them held without charge in administrative detention, the system and the ministry. little that allows people to be held for 6 months and then renewed for another 6 months with no access to louis. sometimes they don't
4:12 am
even told why they're being held. and this evening, or rather this morning of the day or the i was 30 palestinian prisoners released the 6 crunch under the existing still existing cease 5 to 14 women, 16 minus one of the people released. i want to ask you about it had to me me a significant figure. what can you tell us? where did we meet was detained after october 7th for a, a post that she wrote on facebook. she was also have that administrative detention . she didn't spend much time in j, but she is not here tonight. she went straight to her home in the bethany. so language is not very far from ramallah. but as we had to, i had sent me because she is as she became iconic. really because as a child, there is that video of her shouting and kicking it at these really
4:13 am
a soldier and she was a tiny little child with these blonde rocks. then when to when she was a early teenage, i think she was about 13 or 12, something like that. she was dead. so i rested for the 1st time in her life. and she was actually having to that with this certificate engine. and then she had to pass in front of a military record. well, she was, has a few weeks ago for that face facebook post. but she does not come here and probably because she comes from the considerable amount of pressure by the patient for this. they have that eyes on her, a monitor or constantly. so that is probably one of the reasons that she is went straight home. we did try to reach her as far as in the past a few days. i'm earlier today knowing that she was going to be released and they also preferred not to talk. they said they were not going to speak to any german is
4:14 am
coming from my house. that was always welcoming to join us. i've been there many times. i think that for me it's an indication that that family i am i had herself has gone under a tremendous amount of pressure. okay, hold on. we're going to leave you with the crowds for the moment, but staying with this aspect of the story, the release of palestinian prisoners, that's go live now to him. a jump to visit occupied east jerusalem, where a number of the prisoners released mo, uh, come from and will be returning to. but i imagine for very good reason not with quite the same scenes of celebration that that's right, jonah. and the reason for that is because several days ago before the palestinian prisoners started being released, you have the far right wing national security minister. it's more been give year warning,
4:15 am
all palestinians under his jurisdiction which would encompass occupied east jerusalem that they were not to celebrate either indoors or outdoors. that there would be no scenes of joy or festivity upon the release of those prisoners by either the prisoners or by their families or relatives or extended family. and this is something we've seen play out again. and again, let me tell you where we are at this hour. we're told that at least 6 of the 8 prisoners who had been released this evening who reside and occupied these to respond that they have now reached their homes, that they are with their families. now, um, beyond that, we know that up until about an hour ago, you still have security forces that were going to these houses that they were warning the families that they were not to be speaking to the media. that they were still taking out extended members of the family members of the extended family rather who were gathered to try to greet those prisoners who were arriving. it's been very difficult for these families that we've been meeting with repeatedly over
4:16 am
the course of the past 4 or 5 days now, including prisoners as well. we've gone to a household on some occasions we and other assembled media have been kicked out forcefully by is really security forces when they come in and they say, journalists cannot gather. on other occasions, we have gone and spoken to some of the prisoners who been released as well as family members. and they've told us about the warnings to do repeated warnings that they've gotten from is really police that have told family members and prisoners that they are not to, in some cases post on social media, that they are not to speak to the media that they are not to engage in political activities. yesterday, we were at the house of how much they might. he was a 14 year old palestinian prisoners, one of the youngest palestinian prisoners released in the past few days. and he had said he was even told that he was warned, that he was not to be flying any flags, posting any banners that he was not to be speaking on loud speakers in his neighborhood. and, and there was
4:17 am
a worry from his family members that if the security forces felt that any of these, any of these, of the conditions had been violated, that they might re rest him. and we've heard this from other prisoners who've been freed in the last few days. we've said that they, they worry that even though they finally been freed, that they might be picked up again. but anything that might be perceived as a violation might mean that they get arrested even after they have been freed it's . it's very concerning at a time when these family members want to take a collective sigh of relief. they are not able to do so at a time when members of the extended family relatives loved ones want to come and embrace these prisoners who been released. many of them quite young. sometimes they get kicked out by police. other times they are told they cannot gather, they don't feel that they can express the kind of joy that they believe at this moment requires that they are confined in many of them have told us repeatedly the
4:18 am
last few days of this really speaks to the larger publish sydney and experience, they say that this is an indignity that they continue to experience. and they say that they are going to try in the small moments that they have to, to, to express their happiness. but they have to do so in a very quiet way. and that's what worries them. they just worried that things are going to continue to be tends. they are going to be monitored. and many of the parents of those prisoners have been released have said to us that they worried that their kids might be rea rested now, as of tonight's journalists have not been able to access any of the homes of the prisoners who reside unoccupied. east jerusalem. many of them are now returned to their home journalist and not been able to because the parents that we've reached out to. they're too afraid to speak to the journalist because of the warnings they've gotten from police are too afraid to like journalists into their house. so we've not been able to access any of these homes. neither have any of our colleagues, many of the journalists who gone around to parts of october, these truths when trying to access these households. when they've been parked
4:19 am
across the houses across the street, the police will come by. they will tell them they have to leave. that's the atmosphere where you and it's very fraught, it's very tense and it's very worrying for the prisoners who been released and for their family members. jonah. okay, well have a jump to many thanks for that. we now have the palestinian prisoners release complete. they is ready, captives, release, complete, attention must now to, to the question of whether this cease fire will be further extended 3 hours and 45 minutes or so until that is set to expire at 7 am local time and we can talk to them the salute who is in occupied east jerusalem with the latest on what these writing government is saying. if anything i'm to will jonah, there has been no official word from these really. governments, however, there are new reports in is really media anonymous,
4:20 am
is really government and security officials speaking to is really media saying, but the list of captives to be released on thursday, which would make the 7th day of the cease fire. and the 3rd day of the extension that list has not been agreed upon. mediators reportedly handed the list to these rarely, who rejected it and said that there needed to be modifications done to it. now separate sources are saying, but if that list is not modified by the morning, the ceasefire will expire and fighting will resume. we saw all this overnight yesterday as well when the use really is worth threatening to end the ceasefire because they did not receive the list of names from us who are expected to be released. however, they did end up receiving that list of names and the ceasefire extended for 6 se, but now we are just mere hours away from when that ceasefire would expire and is
4:21 am
really media has been reporting, but the war cabinet is meeting is still in session. they are going well throughout the night because there are things that are not agreed upon. and according to them, according to these anonymous is really officials. they are saying that the fighting will resume in just a few hours time. if the names on the list are not changed. now a lot of this can come from some different issues we have seen. remember, the issue of the b bus family has been something these really military. and these really government has been trying to prioritize or talking about a mother and her 2 children, a 4 year old and a 10 months old. the baby is the youngest to be held captive inside of the gaza strip. now these really have it being essential, complaining because their names have not been on the list. but him as did release a statement saying that they were killed in an error strike. these really military
4:22 am
says that they're looking into those claims and they can not verify them at this time so well all of these issues are still ongoing between the mediators. remember that the us secretary of state anthony blinking landed in tell a be to have meetings with the war cabinet with is really prime minister benjamin netanyahu on the issue of the captives release. additionally, the united states has been hoping that the ceasefire will extend beyond the point that it is at now. these relays have been saying, but under its current framework, they're looking to push for the release of all children and civilian women for currently being held captive inside of the gaza strip. but at this hour, there are still no indications whatsoever from these really governments that the ceasefire will extend into the 7th day. again, we can not independently confirmed these reports as they are anonymous is really officials speaking to is really media as the war cabinet is still in session. so
4:23 am
over the next couple of hours, we can expect perhaps some updates coming out of those meetings. but as of now, these really government not conforming but a ceasefire, will extend into the 7th day jona. i'm just telling you thanks for that. and that'd be pretty good. my guest now to talk about the us administration's position on a little this with him. lawrence is a professor of international relations at the american university and the full about us diplomat joining us live now from washington dc. i'm going in lawrence attends few hours ahead now the war cabinet instructions the us administration well place to oversee all of this the ends of the print can we just saw pictures and i'm in the getting off. he's playing. he's in tel aviv bill bands, the head of the c i a is hearing kata talking to the guitar. the media is along with the heads of most had a talk to me please. if you would about a, what is apparently a rapidly shifting position and the administration's willingness publicly. now
4:24 am
to caution on this, on the is riley's a president, 5 and 24 hours ago issuing a tweet saying war is not the onset. if indeed this cease fire breaks down and these ro goes back to war and gaza, it will not be with a us blank check as well. one of the many ironies here is that israel and it's talking points for days now it's been saying everything's and how much is hands that say release prisoners. then we have a continued cease fire. and yet the, the, the main issue right now is that israel is in and started a new condition that says, we get to choose which prisoner you release or, and that we don't have a deal. and that was never part of the deal. they were all types of sort of norm as being formed include pro close and understandings, but never the idea that if you release something other than 10 is really prisoners, we can veto the deal. and this, these fires over blinking,
4:25 am
did say earlier today that he's very optimistic and that was standing all the great reporting that you're, you're, you're correspond interested. and i suspect that as your question implies, you know, bite in the 1st 3 weeks of this, he was very concerned about the extension of the war and the other theaters. they took care of that. and then he wanted a whole set of humanitarian actions, which were in the middle of now and increasingly, especially with it. and yeah, i would publicly disagreeing with so much of what the americans are saying. are there read lines, biden's going to be searching, asserting himself diplomatically, but asserting himself more and more into this? in ways that are surprising me is a long time observer of the us is really arab relationship. this is tricky ground for promised and nothing. yahoo, isn't it? because as he sees the possible extension leading to another extension to another extension over all the momentum comes out of his war in gaza. upon upon which he's
4:26 am
so much the stakes. uh, is it the case? do you think i might roman, in integrating this from what you were saying that the thing is really, is maybe deliberately trying to collapse the steel shows that they can get back on hinted to bombing gaza. there's no question my mind that a few members of the work cabinet would like to to appeal any deal and would have liked the tribunal are from the beginning. there's also no question in my mind that nothing. yeah. who knows that his political days may be numbered by the length of his conflict. so netting, y'all personally has a strong incentive and his goal being to stay out of jail. do you know, to fight these indictments by remaining and power uh that he wants to the war to start again as soon as possible and to, to go for as long as possible. but a bunch of things happened that nobody predicted. first of all is really started to turn against the air and ground operation. i don't know if you saw the pole over
4:27 am
the weekend, which most israelis are against the ground operation in these circumstances right now. these really left of course, and the sort of left half of american politics and the whole rest of most of the national community, you know, have been banging the drums of, of peace and saying, you know, enough is enough, given the level of the carnage that we saw in all the war crimes, you know, what, what country in the world bands and it's a natural expression of happiness. you know, that this is not what democracies do. and there's so many aspects of what israel are doing now, which are abnormal, even for israel. and i would please point one other thing which you didn't mention is real, arrested more palestinian since october 7th. then they released until today we finally have a number of release that that exceeds what they've arrested. and i've been saying since the beginning, i think there should be guarantees that israel doesn't immediately re a rast because these tensions i talked about are now with in the as rarely
4:28 am
government as well. where there's a lot of lots of faith about netanyahu's leadership. so we know those guarantees on the form of us different that william laurence many thanks for your thoughts now with to establish to go before a friend john cease fire ends, high level diplomatic efforts are taking place at the united nations in new york to try and avoid more bombardment of guys like gabriel and is on the reports now from the ones headquarters in new york that he has an at the united nations. foreign ministers from an error up is lumnick block of countries with the aim not just of extending the cease fire by ending the war altogether. so we are here to make a clear statement. that's a truth is enough enough. what is needed is a ceasefire. what is needed is a credible piece and a piece that blasts, and that allows the palestinians and israelis to live side by side in 2 states. anything else will result in continuing crisis in the region. the
4:29 am
un secretary general began the meeting by saying that, well, but a to entering guys that has increased during the current pause and hostilities. and it is not nearly enough in those negotiations that taking place to put along the tools which we strongly welcome. but we believe we need it through you many teddy and the ceasefire. power has been a key player and the negotiations to in the fighting. we hope that the progress made well under pen efforts to put an end to the bloodshed and lead ultimately to serious discussions with relaunch a political process to put an end to the suffering and realize the aspirations of the palestinian people in the united states or israel's most loyal ally and the un continues to call for a longer pause, but not a full and israel's bump. bergman of guys a. we want to see this humanitarian pause extended. israel has been very clear
4:30 am
that it is prepared to continue the pause and fighting for every day that how mos releases an additional 10 hostages. the ball is now in her mouth as court. here in the halls of the united nations. it's clear that the pause in fighting was welcomed, but now worry, it was only temporary. and that if or when is real decides to resume its bombardment of gaza, will likely mean that more innocent civilians are killed and a set back in diplomatic efforts. gabriel was on the i'll just needed a to knighted nations in new york. various events are being held across the world to mock the un international day of solidarity with the palestinian people in the south african city of 200 of the trade unions and members of civil society have been holding demonstrations. south africa's parliament has voted to recommend the closure of these really embassy people from separate organization staged
