in israel advertise that no major offense lives either politically or militarily should happen was the senior us diplomat is in the country that may have had something to do with this. that may be that that's why they've extended it 24 hours simply just to give the americans the feeling that they are coming in. and there is still 100 before a ceasefire. extensions of go in and, but most of the american is incredibly bad optics. something these ratings would like to avoid. okay, for now in round. com that 1st unoccupied, east jerusalem. many, thanks for that update. let's go to tarik. assume who's a ton eunice in southern gaza. so with 10 minutes to spare, as you've been hearing that deadline, that was due to expire right now has been extended. we believe for 24 hours. that's what we're hearing. what? see what reaction that in gaza
8:01 am
yes, uh the minutes that had preceded the announcements of the extension of the cease fire for a new day was really critical and taught for palestinians with the executive were taking control of all emotions of guidance inside the deceased territory. were palestinians last whole, but the last time the last minute that there is going to be any new extension, as from us from his side, had give us time for its full says to be ready for any a possibility for the new renew, fighting with the east valley, so just on the ground as there was no official, the statement had been released just until the last minutes of the end of the previous c supply up later i must have said that they have reached to and said the extension for fed the one day which can give up the lease signed that palestinians will have a new date, clay over the years, but even button. and now earlier today, the majority of people that start and even from early hours, his thoughts are returned back again to the hospital in order to remain in order to be away from these very possible renew all straw bombardments and after they just
8:02 am
had the news that there's going to be a new extension for a new day. they started to return back again to the houses just simply because the believe that in your renew fighting and site, the goals district will bring devastation of catastrophe, consequences on different life aspects. so clearly now palestinians have had sense of relief and become right now have moments of freeze as the, the extension was about the week before the release of these ready hostages from the gaza strip. and from the is ready side move, palestinians would be released from the east. very tates. okay, for now, tara, assume that for us in con eunice in southern gauze. thank you for that. on the permanent policy and activists, i had to mimi was among this as the prisoners released on wednesday, the 22 jo rose to prominence in 2017. when she slapped and is ready sold, you rated have vintage in the occupied westbank. at the time she was sentenced to 8
8:03 am
months in prison. to me was arrested again earlier this month on suspicion off in slicing violence. let's get more now. this from out is there, a zane does or all the who joins us live from ramallah in the occupied westbank. so firstly, we finally we, we've had this confirmation in the last 10 minutes so, so that the truth is expected to be extended by least 24 hours. that will bring a believe some relief where you are a and hope that new palestinians will also be released from captivity. yes, every time we have spoken to palestinians here in the occupied westbank, whether it was those who have been detained, whether it was their families, people being released regular every day, people on the street, those are the celebrations. everyone is excited and they say the same thing that the release of each and every palestinian,
8:04 am
the every single palestinian who has freedom is a reason for celebration and hope every single extra day any palestinian spends in his rarely captivity is a reason to continue to demand justice in the face of the occupation, all of that aside though, they look at this in the broader context. every single person also agrees that what they want is for the cease fire to carry on. the most important thing is to keep the 2 sides talking. keep is rarely using the palestinians. negotiating talking, maintain the ceasefire to make sure the bombardment of gaza does not restart the palestinians living here in the occupied westbank feel very connected obviously to the conflict and guys that they want that to come to an end. they want the horrors of gods, or to stop one mother over the course of the last week or so even said to us that she was looking forward to her daughter getting out see what's causing her daughter's favorite meals. but said if it means that the bombardment of gaza will stop if the war on god's will and that she would be willing to see her daughter
8:05 am
remain in prison. so it's no small thing for the people here that the cease fire has carried on. and they will no doubt be looking to the events later today to make sure, or to hopefully to make sure that that carries on. now they also look at this in the broader context. yes, these detentions, these, these detainees being released as is, is a positive step forward. but in the time that israel has released $210.00 posting and detainees, it is detained. 200 and a 3 new people here in raids, a check points of across the occupied westbridge. more than $77200.00 plus palestinians remain in is rarely custody. a 3rd of them detained since the events of october 7th. since the war and gauze began in rage in the occupied westbank. so this territory, this part of the occupied territories, has certainly been suffering greatly since the war began. it was already suffering raids and incursions and, and constant pressure bias really forces even before the war and went up in
8:06 am
intensity after the war began. and no doubt, people living across the occupied territories. we'll be looking to this us shuttle diplomacy that is ongoing, a visit by us secretary of state anthony blinking later today. then we'll be looking to that to see what comes out of it. but it has to be said, there is not a great deal of public trust, not just in the americans, but also in their own leadership here in ramallah, in the palestinian authority, in the posting and political leaders, who many critics at worst described them as collaborating with his role as, as acquiescing far too much to the american policy on his role to is really oppressors and has to remember, remember that, that lack of public trust, whether it is in this process of a cease fire of a swap deal or anything else they, they they look at it in the broader context ever since the policy and the story that yellow took over. what we have seen is palestinian lands continue to shrink under their watch and that is something that they criticize their lead us for. and
8:07 am
the lack of trust will certainly be something that plays out no matter what happens in the next 24 hours. they're going forward in the next days and weeks. okay, many thanks for that. same astronomy that for us in ramallah in the occupied westbank, a young palestinian mine has been killed by. is there any forces near also a prison in the occupied west spine can number of others were injured during fighting in the early hours of thursday morning. in the town of petunia, earlier a man was shown to the foot spies, ready forces before the release of prisoners from the office. is there any forces of what was that killed to palestinian children during yet another rate engineering and the occupied westbank? warning to all views, some of the images we're about to show all disturbing. this is the moment. is rate forces shot dead a chill as of a go in the head. then you can see another palestinian dragging him away from is riley bullets in
8:08 am
a desperate effort to save. and charles profit has more in this demo who was a happy child who loved to play football with his friends? this is the moment the 8 year old was shot dead by and he's ready. soldier. he's brought up a drank these limp body into cub, behind to call his friend 15 year old bustle. there's also being shot dead close by . of the attack happens during one of the almost daily is right in the military. right? it's almost that you have janine multiplied with bank. the army says it surrounded this home and killed a come on during the, on the palestinian resistance during the 17 hour operation. jeanine has to be used in a sense of the policy and you know, groups fighting israel's occupation and demanding an aim to it's illegal settlement
8:09 am
expansion. these very soldiers were leaving the city when one shop the 2 young boys dead. according to adam's family and witnesses, there was a comb boy of 4 is really military chiefs that we're moving in that direction along the main road around 50 meters away. they say that the lead drive of slowed down short, 15 year old bustle did. and then short, 8 year old adam in the back of the head and the pool of blood to marks the spot where he was hit. the ball cries, as the horror of witnessing his brother's death begins to sink in. his grandmother stands at a photo of her beloved glance on her sydney. yeah. ringback look, god, what do you think i feel the same. well, what am i supposed to feel of it?
8:10 am
maybe as to the, my darling grandson. let me god bless you. father. submit these consoled by friends and family. it's a community center nearby. items mother was taken to a hospital in shaw and she heard the news about them and, and know and asked of him. i wish i wasn't a dream and someone would come to wake me as telling me, i'm just dreaming. i would never in god's name was this felix to anyone. it's hot. that's what they got. we are believers both types. it's very hard. the people, the 50 year old puzzle, is carried to the symmetry is finally overcome by grief. policy mean child and so never to be for golden gun down. why?
8:11 am
and he's ready sold you for throwing stones at an army that it's occupied, the land. so these 4 fathers, almost 60, is trouble stopping houses 0 jeanine. okay, let's take a closer look at how many prisoners and captives have been exchanged since the gauntlet ceasefire came into effects. over the course of the last 6 days, $210.00 palestinians have been freed from is rarely presence during the same period . how much has released 74 as riley's who were being held captive in gaza while 27 for a nationalist were released from gaza on the separate arrangements with the same countries . let's bring in how that allows for ease with the doe institute for graduate studies. he joins us here in the studio. thank you for joining us. so with 10 minutes to spare the ceasefire was extended. why do you think it went down to the wire as well? i think it just underscores. uh the complexity of the situation. um,
8:12 am
israel is obviously committed to uh, continuing to warrant garza, they've, they've made that abundantly clear through numerous statements. also, you know, the reality is that from us doesn't have that many more civilian hostages, right. so each with each passing day just becomes more and more difficult just to work out the logistics of an arrangement. there's no question that the presence of a anthony blinking in israel made some kind of an, an impact. and these last hours, also obviously the, the mediation efforts of guitar and, and egypt. but certainly at this point it's really day by day. and as i say, just a 24 hour extension, we're going to be in the same position tomorrow. i think so, i think, you know, the initial agreement was for 4 days and then, and there was an agreement for an additional 2 days. i think because of just the, the numbers of hostages that are left inside of israel it's,
8:13 am
it's going to be difficult to work out something longer term. uh, so i think we're at it. we're at the point where it's day by day. obviously the americans have started to make clear that they would like at least some sort of a resolution on an end the game. what is israel's vision for ending the one gaza american rhetoric has started to change and i think that's important to highlight it. well, it has changed, it has indeed changed in the last 6 weeks. we've come a long way from not hug, but we still between president biden and prime minister netanyahu. but even given the rest of the week has shifted a little bit of a really in a position to put that pressure on israel. i mean, do united states has a lot of leverage with, with his route, right? um they are, they are the big brother. um, they are the world's only superpower. and they are, quite frankly, a you can, can, can leverage israel into, into stopping the war if,
8:14 am
if they want to. they obviously have all that millions of dollars of aid that they could withhold from israel, or that they, they could at least threaten to withhold. they are giving israel a lot of diplomatic cover, especially at the united nations and just in the international community more broadly. so the united states has a lot of leverage here. now, to what extent will they be willing to use that leverage historically the united states has supported israel, obviously they've given an ongoing support. and so that's why these, these recent criticisms are subtle, implicit criticisms of israel's, for have been significant domestically promised. the destiny are also faces. a lot of pressure doesn't a, because the latest polls the saying that it even is riley, is wanting to cease fire to continue being extended until all the hostages released . how tricky is that going to be for him to navigate? so it's tricky. i think that, um, you know, netanyahu actually has an incentive to continue to continue this war. why do you say that? well, he has numerous problems at home. there were,
8:15 am
there were protests for, for months, against his rule in, in israel, right? he's been a consolidate and power and overhauling the judicial system in anti democratic ways . and so there's a lot of opposition to him. there are also some looming indictments. and so the longer this goes, the longer he has a really political cover in a sense. so he has that incentive, however, there are people inside the war cabinet for opposed to nothing. yahoo, right, funny gas is a, is a rival. so it's very tricky, certainly from the standpoint of his really domestic politics. but i think the overwhelming sense is that is real, everyone in the war cabinet and even many people and, you know, the majority of is really public. want to continue this war to try to eliminate come off as they say. even though many analysts have noticed that that's kind of an unreachable goal, we have dismissal will leave home us because it's clear in the last few days,
8:16 am
at least they seem to have had the up behind when it comes to releasing the hostages and including the shots if the facing does, was you? what next for them? well, how mazda is it a, isn't a very difficult situation. obviously, right, much of northern gauze i have been, has been destroyed, more than half the buildings have been destroyed. and there are still some palestinians there, but the majority of palestinians have gone, have gone to the south. now, there are some new, i'm not a military strategist, but there are some military strategist that is suggested that this kind of a guerrilla warfare is kind of ground warfare could be advantageous to. i'm us and to it's fighters. they obviously do not have the air artillery that, that israel has. and so, you know, again, i'm not a military strategist, but there are some who believe that there could be so give in casualties on the israeli side in addition to the casualties that they've already. they've already suffered, but come off isn't a very difficult position politically,
8:17 am
because as i said, they don't have a lot of capital left to play with in terms of extending extending the truth. and israel is intent on continuing this war. and it's my, in my opinion, my interpretation that israel would like to effectively evacuate guys, this is part of their broader annexation plan. they call it greater israel. and this would just be one phase of that of that plan. many describing is another not happening. so i want to talk a bit more about how much because it's interesting, hasn't it? because we've, we've seen in recent days, especially since we've seen more prisoners being released from is really jails. how much is popularity has actually been increasing. so from before the war started, you say they don't have much political leverage, do you think? well, it's changing. i was saying that they don't have necessarily a lot of political leverage with, with israel, that that might be sort of running out because they don't have a lot of civilian hostages left. and they're not gonna want to part with the
8:18 am
soldiers. that is really soldiers that they have, that they have taken hostage because they're gonna want a lot more in return for, for, for those people. but with, with the palestinians, there's no question that home us is more popular now than it was prior to october 7th and not just with palestinians and gaza. but you've seen the people in, in the west bank celebrating him, us thinking him us upon being freed, waiving the home us flag and wearing the sort of the home us insignia. and so there's no question that they're popular. and the palestinian authority is seen a sort of a, a sub contractor to the israel is on the, on the occupation. and it's also worth remembering that it in the 6 weeks that the war did take place more than $14000.00 and people lost their lives, including $6000.00 children. if we return back to that rule, which could be in 24 hours, which could be in 48 hours,
8:19 am
the international pressure to stop this from continuing to stop the destruction we've seen in gauze. if that's going to be huge, isn't it? there's been increasing criticism right over the last few weeks, you've seen numerous international actors, not just in the area, but most of them worlds or in the global south. but also in europe criticizing israel's really just the excessive bombardment bombardment of civilian infrastructure and civilian areas. human rights reports to suggest that they've been targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. and so, so, you know, there's going to be increasing pressure on israel to stop the war. but as i said earlier, a lot of, and i don't want to be reductionist about it, but a lot of this does come down to the united states and the question that i've had, and i still don't have an answer to, is at what point will the us simply say to israel, that enough is enough that you can not continue this for we are no longer going to
8:20 am
give you this kind of cover. okay, well, how much out must rate uh, with the, the well, it's the chief of graduate studies. thank you for your time. well, how many gems here and has more on the prisoners from occupied the stories some who have been released in occupied east jerusalem after a long night of delays. several hours of family members waiting for their relatives, palestinian prisoners to be released. finally word that at least 6 of the 8 prisoners who reside in occupied east jerusalem, where we are now have returned to their homes. now, throughout the last several hours, we spoke with family members who were very concerned about the delay in the release of their relatives. they didn't know what was going on and when exactly they would arrive. we had reports throughout the evening. that security forces continued to go to those houses, warning family members, not to speak to the media,
8:21 am
kicking out members of the extended family, also barring journalist from accessing those homes. this certainly falls into a pattern we've seen increased over the course of the last few days when security forces have repeatedly gone into the homes of prisoners who reside in occupied east jerusalem. kicking out, members of the extended family and time is also kicking out assembled journalists. and this is one of the reasons why many of the families we've spoken with over the course of the past few days have worried about what's going to happen in the days to come. many of the prisoners that we've spoken with have told us about the fact that they have been warned not to post anything on social media, not to speak to the media, not to engage in any political activities. many of them concerned that if it's, if there's any perception that they have violated any of these conditions upon their release, that perhaps they could even be picked up again and taken back to jail. now,
8:22 am
while we have not been able to access any of those families over the course of the night, that's because they're too afraid to live journal listen to their home because they were afraid there will be around the vacation, is from the security forces. we're here and why the joys there were 2 of the prisoners that were released over the course of the past several hours that reside in this area. we're overlooking that area right now. those 2 prisoners were told have returned to their homes. certainly various relief among those family members that are finally were united with their loved ones. but at a time when many of these families would like to experience some joy at the reunion and be able to breathe a sigh of relief, they also feel that they are being watched and monitored. and they feel that they cannot experience the kind of happiness that they would like to at this moment. how much i'm just ear occupied easter as well. israel says it's looking into reports
8:23 am
that a 10 month old baby held captive by how mosse was killed in one. if it's a tax in gaza, it'd be best family including baby can fit what among those taken by? how much on october the 7th. as the exchange of prisoners took place onto the ceasefire agreement, many question why the incident on his family went along the 1st to be freed. harris has moved from tel aviv it's become a familiar scene for nearly a week. it starts with from us, handing captives the to the red cross and ends with them say sweet by can is ro, boots every day is unpredictable as the next on wednesday the wait was finally is this assignment is a full seed captives. 10 is riley's and full time nationals. to is ray. the russians will also release in a separate deal, but phase occurring for the be vast family who is become the face of the campaign
8:24 am
to bring back the captives home. a. my says that is really as strikes killed the mother and the 2 young children before the c spy. i happened to leave things at home is ready. prime minister benjamin netanyahu says the ministry is trying to verify the claim that has schultz many just 10 months old. the boss is the youngest captive on tuesdays, family health riley for him. his 4 year old brother and parents calling on how my son is ready government to ensure the ever media release. relative's house today has been questioning why basic fe wasn't released at the beginning of the see saw. they've been wise that him and his family have been kept in captivity as a reason to extend the si, fi is really designed to continue with. it says strikes and ground defensive when the sci fi and while maintaining, bringing back all of the captives is still a priority. the we are in complex moments and in
8:25 am
a window of time for the return of our objectives, we will work too exhausted as much as possible. at the same time, we have prepared and ready to return to combat at any time to. as the states of the boss, family remains on known. the pressure on his rouse lead as a rule cabinet to ensure the safety of the captives is increasing by the day sort of fights out to 0 television. okay, i just wanna recap that breaking news for you as we approach 25 minutes past 7 local time in israel and gaza. and we've had confirmation in the last half an hour or so that b c's fine between as well. and how much which was due to expire at 7 am local time at the top of the hour that has now been extended. let's go to iran con, who joins us. no, i from on key part is do slim and it went down right to be why it didn't, it didn't is or a run sets up 0,
8:26 am
right. let me give you a time line. what we're hearing from is resources speaking to local media is the overnights. the list that was given to of is riley's by him, asked was outright rejected by the is really then at 20 minutes to 720 minutes before the deadline. and these resources have mess, sent an amended list of names. it was a new list of 10 of the kids that received that met the conditions 10 minutes after that these ready all me issued a statement saying in light of the mediators, f as to continue the process of releasing the hostages and subject to the terms of the frameworks, the operational pause will continue. now we're also hearing from is there any media and his resources as well that the main mission of the us secretary of state. and so we blanket who is in country right now was to extend the ceasefire. now this isn't confirmed but we're getting it from multiple. ready is the
8:27 am
h women and children the on this less than israel has agreed to take them in the past that has been of some negotiation. find a point is going on when it comes to separating children and that parent or parents in some cases. and that's always been a sticking point to up is what it is. always insisted that you shouldn't separate them, they should be released. so that may will have been the negotiation sticking points that happened in the last 44 hours that came to an end 20 minutes before the deadline was due to expire. so there's another interesting point here. this may will be only 8 people that have been released know 10, as we've seen in the past. the ratio has always been a one to 3. 1 is. busy really captive for every 3 palestinian prisoners really best list if it's a completely accurate and as is being reported is only 8 people and they are
8:28 am
mothers and children. so that's an interesting development. i also take that out of the agreement that we've seen before is right. there's always maintain that this cease fire only works as long as they getting their captives out up until that point. once they feel like they're not getting enough caps, it's out. and they all going to resume the war. it's always been 10, at least now it's 8. this could be a real issue for how boss, maybe they are running out of people to actually release. maybe they called find some people that they want to be able to release. it gives a political problem him ask cuz they just don't have that leverage anymore. so that will be relying now on the category of mediators it to, uh, be able to renegotiate the deal to have perhaps less than 10 people. so there's a lot of moving parts at mullin, but that's the timeline. that's where we're at at the moment. certainly a very significant development, but coming right down to the why just 20 minutes and then the 10 minutes before and out some bodies really all make of the sci fi being extended by 24 hours on him or
8:29 am
on what kind of reaction can we expect from the families of the count is obviously it's good news that the cease fire has been expand extended by another 24 hours so they will see more of that family members hopefully released. but there's been a lot of pressure. it has in the to get all the members all the captives out. so that's, that's the right the bring them by campaign, which is the umbrella organization that represents those people in how mass captivity has always maintained that that needs to be assessed by long enough to get as many people out as possible. all the families, all of this civilians. it's unlikely that i'm asked who's going to give up on the soldiers that they've got in captivity. but for the families, it's always been about getting bad people out, getting their loved ones out and into is really tired treat. now they have a very big voice. uh they supported by the people of is all the result was that
8:30 am
people out that will have a political calculation within me is really will cabinet itself with these ready will cabinet has been absolutely clear during all of this days all the ceasefire. it has said, we will go back into a goza at a time of our choosing. rosa herring. uh that to um, the maximum that these ready will cabinet will allow for a ceasefire extension is 10 days that'll take us to sunday. off to sunday. uh these right, these are saying they want to go back into goals that despite any family members that may well be left in that. now if they're releasing 10 today, we still know exactly how many people that out, but that gives a significant chunk of, of is ready, kept, has to be released. probably gets you to around a $110.00 maybe. so call this been about 8 tonight. sorry, 74 is riley's released. it could get you to about the 10010510.
