was you don't know kindly get there just by the time to come up with them when they probably don't get it to be nice of them was, you know, the, [000:00:00;00] the hello, the zillow robins, this is the, i'll just them and use our lives in the coming up in the next 60 minutes, these stages cents. so what could be the most important moment to the 2020 full rates to the white house? you as president j 5. this republican challenge of donald trump arrived in atlanta for the 1st tv debates. big stakes for 4th man is
1:01 am
to be prepared to face each other on this stage. here in atlanta, trying to convince unconvinced points us to the best spot for the joke. for both candidates are disliked by most americans with issues like immigration, foreign policy, and the economy is dominating this concern is a load is a deadly military operation of the. so joining a neighborhood east of kansas city, forcing thousands of displays on the citizens to flee again. the and to be invest in kenya, protest as the one president william, rooted to step down the spine tingling, popular tax bill. the army has not been called in to restore order. the it's $2200.00, gmc, about 6 o'clock in the evening in the us city of atlanta,
1:02 am
where our president tre parts and will face republican presidential candidate, double trump. and the 1st tele volumes debates in a few hours time. tens of millions of americans were expected to tune into the earliest tv debate over the election in us political history. now the faceoff between the 2 presidential candidates is likely to set the tone for the rest of the race. before most americans cast the ballots on november, the 5th finding on trumpet. both arrived in atlanta where the debates will be televised lives by landed on board at full swan. that's a military base just outside of the city. and trump, with his private jets at atlanta international airport. now they're making that final preparations, which is scheduled to begin in just under 3 hours time. 100 cast right is on the watch policy. and the crucial swing states of wisconsin marshall gage, reaction from votes is all in the picture is in atlanta where the presidential debate is taking place. but 1st his,
1:03 am
his report and it will set the tone for the next 5 months. the most anticipated debate in recent times, but it comes to bite and less dude face to face with donald trump 4 years ago on the presidential debate states. a lot has changed. some things haven't liked the ill will between the 2. so left, what do you shadow man, who fight and one in 2020 some complaint with the evidence victory was stolen from him. there's been the assault on the capital on january 6th, 2021 that has been done in terms conviction on safety for a felony charges. and there's been the conviction of joe biden, son, hunter. we know donald trump has a very, very is very skill at big a disruptor. so i think what we're going to see is one of the debaters attempting to try to stay presidential and stay focused on the issues. and the other one is going to try to do everything he can to disrupt his challenger. joe biden thinks
1:04 am
his preparations are going well. the trump has been on the campaign, still looking his opponent. i know he's locked up in a log cabin so you can imagine what his both men will lead to deal in policy. immigration, on the board to is a political liability for bite and abortion rights for trump and bite. and we'll have to defend his position on the water and gaza. but most americans will want to know how each candidate will make their lives better. all the immediate things and go by may have done well like handling the pandemic and economic recovery. inflation is still high, and many people still feel like the cost of living is not commensurate with their payment with their wages. and so even though he is overseeing lots of good things, he is still the president right now when all these things are happening, i think donald trump is going to try to make a job. i didn't look out of touch, perhaps daft, and not ready, and not up to the job, nearly
1:05 am
a quarter of all americans. what neither mine to win this election, but this is the race. these are the candidates and both will be hoping this debate will give them some momentum before the vote in november. i was so sure, i'll just see the atlanta and i'll enjoys this stuff from atlanta, i presume most if not both candidates have been well prepared. now, in terms of how they going to deal with this debate, guys, what is to adversaries the look that this is essentially a political dest much a bad performance here, could in the campaign of one of the candidates. so they have put a lot of preparation, and donald trump has been trying to say that he hasn't paid that much attention, but there have been more debates for him with michael rubio, who of course, was one of those people who didn't want to see donald trump. become the presidential candidate in 2016 acting is joe biden. i never in the history of
1:06 am
presidential debates. i put both candidates had so much that they can bring up to attack the other candidate with those. donald trump's convictions that people say, remember the court case where he was essentially accused to be liable for rate the various also his convictions on financial improprieties in new york as well. and then donald trump to go after joe biden, about the conviction of his son, the fact that he looks a and a note with it not entirely together. you will talk about inflation and how does that is impacted most american families. and of course the laptop, the, the position on the border as well. so both of these candidates have got a lot to go after. what is interesting is that the moderators will have a kill switch. essentially the commute i the candidates, if they think they're getting off topic so they can't attack each other. so this can be a debate about the substance. but speaking to one republican earlier this afternoon he said look,
1:07 am
donald trump isn't going to abide by that. you will hear him on the other mike, he is going to blow right through that stop side of the car. so i'll let you know that besides the personal insults and vitriol that conversation we expect between the 2 of them, those are really serious issues that they've got to try and address. so we know, but those undecided voters i'm looking for the 1st time. we're going to have a sitting president attacking a previous president's position when he was an office. he can actually point to donald trump record and say, look, you did this, you did that. this is what happened when you are in the white house in america. it's taking its time to recover. you will also paint a picture of what might happen in the next 4 years. if donald trump is re elected, he will talk about how donald trump said he would be a dictator on the one. how he is going to be the vengeance for all of those who voted for trump. and donald trump can go after joe biden on a number of topics as well. point to the fact he hasn't delivered on some of the
1:08 am
things that he promised the fact that inflation is hitting or been re families and you will make the case of it. joe biden will be a high tax president as well. so there's a lot of things to pay attention here and a lot of nuances to, to can as well. but remember, if you're a ton of support or you're buying the supporter, it's probably very much big 10 at the moment. it is the small group of undecided voters that they are going after and even then it's a smaller group because it's the undecided voters and probably about 5 states, the 5 states that could swing this presidential election. so they know they're after that group of voters, and they're hoping that the performance here will be enough to convince them that either tool 5, not donald trump, should be in the white house. come january the 20th 2025. of course, we'll come back to you with more analysis as time progresses, island fisher, that forces atlanta. let's go to high digit account space. that the debates watch
1:09 am
policy in connection. wisconsin, i do like the fact that it's a, a watch policy, a highly jo. uh, it's interesting that we sconces one of those states, possibly that could swing the election votes either way for either can to that. absolutely. so and just like alan was saying, it is those pivotal undecided voters in the swing states that are likely going to decide the selection. and we know from holding that the american electorate overall is about evenly divided into 3 groups. republicans, democrats, and those independents among who are as those coveted undecided voters. and lucky for us here at the campus of carthage college, there is actually a gathering of people to watch this debate court quite representative of that overall american electra. and they've been united here by a group called braver angels, which is a national non profit that brings that's trying to bring together americans in this
1:10 am
very polarized political environment. and that's brings us to our guests. this is gabby tennis who is an organizer. thanks so much for coming. not on al jazeera. thank you for having me. tonight's debate, we're seeing the match up between a present president and a former president, and everyone knows what they're about at this point. what more can american voters learn about these 2? well, that's what is partially what makes this particular election so complicated, which is everyone knows these 2 candidates and everyone has experience these 2 candidates as president. so there's no curiosity that is the wonder on how they will serve as presidents. so for tonight, we're really thinking about, for our words, watch party, we're thinking less about what are we going to learn from the candidates. but what can we learn from each other as we watch this debate to minutes together excite. and we talk about this because again, river angels is trying to bring together equal numbers of republicans, democrats and independents. and that's what this watch party will be all about
1:11 am
tonight. how do you plan to let all everyone hear what they have to hear and react in a civil manner and how it can that be an example for the rest of the country? right? so river and just has a wide array of programming. and so we're going to be using some inspiration from programming that we have in our debate and workshop structures. so we'll be incorporating that into our watch party. so during the 2 commercial breaks are going to be calling delegates to the floor to be sharing how they're feeling, what they agree with what they don't agree with, etc. and then directly following the debate will have a longer moderated conversation with giving delegates an opportunity to, to share what they're thinking about. and you know, looking at the polls, donald trump is leading, bided, and just to recent, pull out today's show that in fact trumps favorability reading has gone up since his criminal convictions in new york. and the favorability rating of fight and have gone down is how could you explain that it's such a personal feeling, you know, it's, it's, so you're getting people know these 2 candidates. and so, i mean, i've heard some rugs in our organization that have felt like that trump was being
1:12 am
victimized by the justice system. that's one perspective i've heard, you know, i've heard people being frustrated with biting about his handling of the israel guys are conflicts abroad. um, so it's such a personal thing and you know, what is really moving voters in every direction. but the great thing about being here is we're going to hear that we're going to have used to base. we're gonna have these conversations and we're going to give folks opportunities to really share what's on their mind and what swing them one way or another, right gabby, thank you so much, you sound trapping me and that will be a hearty discussion here. of course. first, the watch party when the debate takes off, and then after that a moderate, a discussion between these very polarized sides at this very pivotal moment in this election season. so how does it cost for that for us in wisconsin? thanks so much heidi in the us has held presidential election since $1788.00, but the idea of presidential debates is relatively new. well, it's not become a tradition, began in 1960, with the 1st telephone's debate between the massachusetts senator joseph kennedy.
1:13 am
then vice president, richard nixon votes. as he watched on televisions at kennedy, won the vote is listening on radius that they believe nixon perform better since then. they've become a major tool for tv views rivaled any by american football super bowl. find well enough, turns us selections into come test of imagery instead of words in 201673 1000000 people tuned in for the 1st debate between hillary clinton and double trump. and i have the as debates of produce thinking comebacks as well as and balancing gas that turn into sound bites that go through history. in 2016 polling estimates about the debates between trump and clinton health. 73 percent of votes has make up their mind at the voting booths, and a liquid is a distinguished professor of history at the american university and the next. but it's on us politics. he joins us live now from bethesda in maryland. mr. liquid, always good to have you on the program at this time with the because if there is anybody that knows anything about debates,
1:14 am
it's you. what does this particular debates considering that are all set and restrictions in the way that there's no audience around that as a, a kill button full, the moderators to make sure that each of those 2 presidents gets a chance to talk. how will this affect the way, perhaps the view will look so this particular debate compared to others in history? well, it would look more like the kennedy nixon debates, which i think is the high point of debating, you know, is just the 2 of them best standing right near each other. no audience and the debate was subsidized. it was factual. both candidates were incredibly knowledgeable. i don't expect this debate to mirror that because we now live in the age of sound bites and social media and impressions. but i do think the rules are very se tore, trying to move us back towards 1960 is the thing you didn't mention. and that is
1:15 am
cnn is going to be fact checking the candidates and of donald trump. supporters have already been up in arms and complaining about that. and there's another unique thing about this debate. yes, these candidates to know, but there are 2 narratives for each candidate as to overcoming this debate that are very important and are not tied to issues for binding. he asked us to overcome the criticism that he's too old is too diminished. he really can't handle a 2nd term, and trump has to overcome the narrative that he's on the hinge that he rance, that he is divorced from any kind of reality. those are the 2 big knocks on the candidate. so that's what they've got to overcome. more than anything else in this debate, they may have to have a combat yet the view of watching and the person who is voting in the united states . looking at this, this debate,
1:16 am
do you think decisions and conclusions all made after that 1st debate? so from your sort of research, do you see those that are i say it swing undecided voters waiting until the 2nd all the debates until they actually make the final decision? what's the thinking? well, i'm going to throw cold water and all of the negative this many times. it's a great miss that debates predict election results. they don't. hillary clinton won all 3 debates in 2016, and she lost john carry out shine george w bush in 2004. and he lost and it's a great mit. the kennedy won the tv debated 1960, cuz he was cool, and swab and nixon was kind of swarming that was concocted long after the election at the time. and the commentary and the window poles on it was very, very positive. and the poles did not move an inch. so if you want to predict an
1:17 am
election, the only way to do it is to follow all the keys to the white house, my prediction system, which been right since 1980, for 40 years. and contrary to all the upon the tree and the poles, i assure you will read your listeners and watchers. it's governance, not campaigning. the couch campaigning, including the bags, have no predictive scientific body. why 13 keys to the white house however? oh, we seem to have the income, the reality of how presidential really work gets much up or down on the white house party. we we, you'll, you'll link tricity froze allen, but i just want to ask you a very quick question. if we can just get an answer on this, what, what are you looking for onto this debate in terms of analysis? and the way that you think you can perhaps analyze whether each of these candidates has the right form of governance full. the keys to the white house come to the end
1:18 am
again a while the key is a substitute. so i think you highlighted key substantive issues that have to do with the governance of the white house party abortion of immigration, the economy, democracy. and we know donald trump is going to be on the attack on a lot of these issues. and here's what i'm looking for in response to jo by jo biden's got to pull off a really need to just say, well, if he wants to survive the attacks, he's got to show on the border that had to deal a bi partisan deal, which with 90 percent to a short republicans wanted a donald trump without even reading it, scheduled it and destroyed it on inflation. he's got to show that donald trump is policies like and across the board. 10 percent of our fund, big tax cuts for the rich are going to vastly increased inflation. that's the only
1:19 am
effective way to jiu jitsu for buying the counter attack. when it's going to be a withering republican. donald trump assault on him. let's see what happens is a couple of hours and we'll get, i'll show more analysis of you after that too. i'll explain. thanks so much for joining us for bethesda in maryland. so good to have you on the program. take care the he's really military has lotion opperation in the northern gaza strip. it's sold at civilians to leave the subject to a neighborhood where it soldiers had earlier killed 8 palestinians. honeymoon knew it has more in the attempt to escape you to another years try going to show you a neighborhood in northern garza. many here have a slip multiple times and are forced to leave again. they remembered the speed of killings in
1:20 am
a starvation that marked the previous is really military operation. but nowhere in dogs, as some people, including children, were killed in the united nations. when school is really bonds claimed more palestinians as they fled. should i, as in the east of does a city near the, is really fast? no one woman i've ordered all this woman doesn't know where to go. she has 5 children who she stays are hungry and thirsty. why don't know so are you still going forward and i am telling the well, to keep enjoying the season is over here and garza to keep enjoying the support for his release. and so keeping joy within us under the siege forever. i might have got is enough for us, and god is the best disposal for what affairs. the vehicles like this are useless because israel has cut off fuels, supplies. there are no emergency response to cruise here. repeated bombardments and incursions have left no roads,

hospitals or facilities that down the hallway. we walk up to our property some a taylor, we showing a caps, screening for a long time. got to deal with the x ray lease. we have nothing to eat and we can't carry anything with us. 1000 a feeble to stream out of his eyes. some here say is really, troops are advancing. the i collected would keep it for the children, the indiscriminate children get every thing without warning. it isn't fair. most of the victims are women and children. i swear to god. these are war crimes to say enough is enough. people are killed and wounded for trying to find food for the 2. the we are deprived of food which are under basic necessities and were being thought gifted by mistake. an artillery shows where's the was, what are the error ups and what are the most to have a question that has a good across garza, for nearly 9 months. i know that we are the people of gaza. i'll be rami from
1:22 am
should tell you, we are the people we are the owners of this land. we are, the heroes are not on the display as people of gaza reiterate that. they are survivors. as once again, they are forced to flee to an area which might come on. there is really a talk, honey. my mother was just the it up from the central garza how the sign. i told you the machine has been in the subject neighborhood and said this repulse the settle comedy. and at the head of the high school that was standing here in the east of kansas city. where on thursday morning is randy occupation forces began all tend to be selling laws, possible shy and neighborhood, and thousands of people are living here and extremely difficult humanitarian conditions. as you can see now, people are heading towards the areas of the west of kansas city carrying the children and whatever else they can carry under the scorching hot sun in this hot weather due to the bombing. they're leaving that destroyed science and temporary shelters and ways. they are exhausted, i'm tired and i'm heading into the, on the,
1:23 am
to areas that they are unfamiliar with. all that prior to now is to survive these product bombings. people here see that these really military will follow this protocol tillery selling with a ground operation, just as they did before, and does a 2 neighborhood inter ballier, as well as the obviously fat medical complex. meanwhile, at least 4 people are being killed and dozens injured. and it is right in the attack on the coastal area of lossy northwest of rough or heavy shelling has been reported around chicago. she in southern gaza. a local journalist as is right. the troops have been shooting at 10 sweat displaced people who are living, forcing many to fling he's really been a tree, has also has a local government building data. bella in the central gaza strip. dozens of people die for injured and killed in the strike. and they have been taken to hospital several refugee counseling guys will say coming days by the 5, at least 3 members of the civil defense have been killed out of the ridge taking the total number kill since october,
1:24 am
the 7th to $73.00. and then central gauze ridge by the strikes, kill 3 people, and then just at least 12 more in this way. people in japan leaving the northern gauze and stripe all living extremely difficult conditions. traders have been working to revive one of the largest markets, the area which was destroyed by his very strikes of his arrows, multicolored, has more. a severe shortage of the basics of lies here. nothing goes with us. nothing answers to them. nothing goes for whether phones, the south or from the air is the crossing, as it can see in the bookshop. this is, did you found the central lock? it's off. so that's why the forces destroyed the market completely. as you can see, there's no under budget. the rules are on the fruits to offer, so those have nothing to offer for the civilians here over less reloads, delilah says the on in the basic needs are not available. as you can see in the
1:25 am
market on the whole of the modem doesn't have nothing but 30 kilograms of tomatoes every day. it's just the say for the vegetables. this is some garlic. this is not enough at all for the people's husband, a good email that civilians and residents. yeah. nothing. guess what? i'm struggling every day. finding something to eat as something to feed their children with. as you can see here is the seeing and did you value refuge account? all of these products is nothing, just a small amount that's not or doesn't cover the extensive needs of the relation to that of the day. and so the main vegetables are available in the market before the price of one kilogram. fleming was one shake. the price now is $25.00. jacobs for one. kito fleming. i left be here in jamalia. we all starving. there's not enough food or even in volta, we pay

a lot of money to buy something from the market, which likes the main vegetables. we need. the values here are b links to all international bodies. so, but nothing goes with, with the basic supplies. why the fluid, i just need a nothing does a thread. all is fine. as it was through slip, hundreds of his right, these are taken to the strains to develop the right side of his way, the captive held in gauze under the interval. some of the rallies took place until the b. 5 protest is blocked. major roadways, prime minister benjamin netanyahu is facing green pressure to secure with these 5 deal with my boss. and he is a, is i've been demanding early elections. i'm the salute is following the developments for the money in jordan, and we'd like to remind you that way uh, outside of israel reporting the story because he's waiting government to spend to 0 anti government demonstrations continue in west jerusalem and k, sorry,
1:27 am
a outside of the homes of his really prime minister benjamin that's in your protest organizers are pointing thursday as a day of strike and resistance, as they say they're going to continuously protest every single day until there's a change within israel's governments. on thursday morning, demonstrators blocked major roads throughout israel, as they want to see a change within his rules, governments. but that's not all they are asking for. they also want to see a deal to bring back the remaining is really captive. now protesters say that that's a yahoo government is neither capable nor interested in accepting a deal that would save the release of the remaining $120.00 is really captive still held in guns. the large demonstrations are also expected across the country on saturday and places like tell a beef the north and west jerusalem as well. and demonstrator say that these types of demonstrations are the only way to up the pressure on nets and yahoo and his

government. this includes just the, you know, i'm at least 35, all kids are being followed from level tools. the city of saw fed in northern is room. 2 2 because we just have to buy these rules on time system that will give me to those. he said that the tools and casualties so far, but the also being power officers. and it's the latest in a series of tips for the 10th of tax between has blah and is there any forces? so the block closing can you? it has approve the use of military falls to restore order. the following days of often violent protests hundreds of police officers and soldiers are on the streets of the cover, the library b, please have been following, take us and brother believes to dispense 7 spaces. and this comes a day of the present when
1:29 am
a route i would tool proposals to raise taxes that they accused the government of widespread corruption saying it's made that lives difficult. malcolm. what was that? those demonstrations in nairobi the probably passed the yeah. john must just comes off to wednesday, president bruce, i said he would stop and i felt the thing broken out to i guess once again, every time the crowd tries to get a place to disperse the evidence, the government doesn't really want any kind of demonstration. take place as follows, wednesday president ruth, i say that it withdrawal the finance bill that comes to us on a temporary government to increase taxes for the people demonstrating say it's already told beyond that they say and semi corruption, a lot of accounts, ability to governance and now the 23 more people were killed on tuesday of the
1:30 am
reasons why they say roots, i must get it. and it was when the demonstrate to the entered parliament on tuesday, just a couple of blocks from here. the security agencies used to live gunfire again on a protest as not seems to have made. the protest is even more angry malcolm lab houses, they're not very b, kenya. process are also taking place outside of the country and capital i re, b. the shenise outlet is reporting protesters in kissimay. the country is the largest city of march from the to the city center stage to sit down, protest in front of because of the state launch in the glory in the south. west, please, on demonstrate is unable to be financing in money bottles and protest as ink. you see many of the university students of march towards the town center. at least one of mine has been killed by police and got total guy cuz i do county residents
1:31 am
total route is there that the victim was closed. i've been cross fire was please find that the empty tanks protest as in the area. katherine solely has a strip of the whole here on the outside of the city for testers has been using this roads to bonds hires and said that they do not trust the president, even though he said that he's going to the client. or he has the client to sign on the bill. they say that they want him in so that they can. so this has been done so, and so we have for me who are trying to keep the order as is this your guys on the other side, you have the protested there who to the, uh, the for this and this one in west coast. so basically what they're saying is that,
1:32 am
that issue is not then just last final bill. they say they want jobs, they say the frustrated because they cannot get jobs. the cost of living is so high and we know that and the president promised them that he's, he's going to give them jobs. so it's very upset. we have been talking to them and they said that they need the new, the shit to do better passes. so you all, just, there are some other, let's say that is a good present, which i can do to appease a new generation who accused him of being a member of 10 years old, political god called stratford reports. i assume it's dead. okay, now will you root? so only no one can use 2022 presidential election. although a member of the country's political establishment and a former deputy president for nearly a decade,
1:33 am
he said it was different. how slow on the side of the pool. you said he had a bull, some prime promising employment for the use of an end to decades of corruption and mismanagement. people were killed one tuesday in violent protests against these finance build. it included heavy tax increases. natalie says these process of different and go beyond kansas. traditional political divides. what he's busy now is a different kind of charlie because the tele notice demographics and generation z does not have a class of decimal tough try this don't. so they have this large group of very young people who seem to be possible to split during a pump and ceremony field state to visit to the united states last month. and the 1st by an african leader in 15 years us president joe biden said there was
1:34 am
a bright light of the white house. you designate you, can you a major know made so holloway, but root shows cost is check, good to say the least. he was accused of orchestrating a campaign of political violence against ethnic groups. the killed 1300 people following dispute to the elections in 2007. we are in open session now in 2016, the international criminal code to drop the case against inciting, witness interference and intolerable political embezzling. believe to be with hundreds of millions of dollars he has over the years being repeated, the accused of involvement and the murder political opponents and many land grabs and rooters finance bill has created fuel re across the country. and it determines protest movement led by the young. almost everybody in the country believes that he
1:35 am
lies. and that that's the kind of work out of that. almost everybody in the country believes his corrupt, comfortable cult of that. so it's not clear where he's good to go to his next support from rich, i was supposed to refuse to sign off. when you text little saying he can see it came in was wanted nothing to do with it. a new generation to protest as in can, you may have won this battle, but there's literally indication the president will seriously address then why the grievances? it's all stuff without a 0 still head here, although just a community kitchen in sit on, becomes a lifeline for the displays. does the you and says the was pushing the $800000.00 people toward starvation plus understanding i further into her on the presidential race is down to 3 men and the result is unpredictable.
1:36 am
the hello. we have quite a bit of rain in the full costs of possible strain here over the next couple of days to see some wet to whether we're running into w a automatic little area of low pressure here, just swelling away. let me 2nd briefly to run this across the by laws, a kind of writing that for western australia pushing right up into the northwest, south australia saying some lot of shell as long as both of rain which will garage you make the way across. victoria basically sinks in wet weather, also pushing across the into the part of new south wells, test maintenance, things in the lobby, south blustery conditions here. so slowly making its way towards these items, you can see how it runs back from the south, out of new zealand. right across that part of new south wells into the interior as we go through sunday, systems have your best of right to come plenty of heavy right, being lot of called central parts of china and that continues the policies way out
1:37 am
into japan, a corporate country. mindful parts of japan, 25 celsius in the cloud and the rise some fund 3 down policy as we go through friday saturday. think start to to wrap a little level, move out. so the way next system does service hands. so that's going to bring some heavy right toward south korea. now the pulse evaluate whether on the plum range and staying very unsettled for central positive china. the interrogate the narrative is the u. s. has continued support for israel affecting his global standing. there's no question about it. the united states has effectively complicit the genocide challenge, the rhetoric, yes. say lisa, correct. but so in the international community. can we also say that dell's, the cornerstone of democracy, is having a free and open democratic pro upfront without
1:38 am

these really ministry as low as an operation east of kansas city and older people to leave us to join a neighborhood in northern garza, 3 is really as strong. so if it, the giovanni or refugee cub getting at least 30 to palestinians can use high cold as approve the use of military falls to restore the following days of often violent face. that's at least one mind that has been killed by police in conjunction with comes to joe biden, to donald trump days in atlanta and making the final preparations out of the 1st presidential debates in the campaign cycle. the 2 will take to the states side by side, the 1st time in full years, and the high stakes, consequential showtime well with about 4 months ago until election day, a survey conducted by the new york times on santa college show a tight trace between the 2 candidates by this training just behind trump in national polls, 46 percent of voters have indicated support for trump of 45 foot by to
1:40 am
that survey conducted just days ahead of this debate shows that 60 percent devices for trump would perform either very or somewhat well only 46 percent, so the say about 5, the both of the oldest to seek the presidency. 59 percent. say that, that very concerned about biden's agent though the 18th is i'd say the same about donald trump. should tessa is a democratic political strategist on found? i'm principal at convey communications and joins us from washington, dc. how's that really good to have you on the program? a few listen to a previous contributes that we had on the news how just a little while ago. you said that listen to the polls that are always wrong. the thing to listen to and if you want data on how well democrats versus republicans are doing, we have plenty. there's been a number of mid term elections, special elections, democrats, on the rise,
1:41 am
we're raising more money than our opponents. we've been winning elections even in deep red places. all biden has to do, and this is important for this debate. fighting has to point out how high the stakes are and how high the contrast is between these 2 candidates. does the 5th to then play into that? so if you're saying that bite and has to sort of say these, all the consequences, if you vote the trump, that's where the, the, the phase effective method isn't says and what, what trump said, count to that with us at trump uses fear as well. unfortunately, the kind of fear that he uses as a campaign tactic is a fear built a division. he'll talk about immigrants at the southern border, for example, he'll talk about this scare of muslims. what, what he will do is try to divide communities against each other. and drive that kind of fear as well. in contrast, biden talks about the rights that are at stake for us democracy itself. is that

state for us? it's not a fear of one american versus another. but instead, the kind of america that we want to see how far do you think then is the importance of issues such as the economy health you've just touched on democracy and maybe even the supreme court rolled up into all of that health care. and then of course, you have the hold of bullshit and debate, where do all of the students you have sort of your findings over the past few weeks, depending on how they will tackled in the debate? well, not so well. will they be that important subjects as we move forward towards november? is extraordinarily important. let me give you an example. so in the september 2020 debates between trump and bite in uh, binding it said abortion is on the ballot and trumpet denied it. say no, no, nothing of the sort, not at all. we know that biting was right just 2 years later, a supreme court point is that trump had a pointed reversed where the way taking away the constitutional protection to have
1:43 am
an abortion. almost immediately, 17 states eliminated either partially or totally the right for a woman to have an abortion. but here's the electoral consequence of that. in these last 2 years since the, since that ruling, almost every campaign that has made abortion and never had a campaign that is made abortion. a major campaign issue has vastly over performed historically compared to where they are. democrats of one in bright red districts, when they actually talk about this issue. districts including in louisiana in georgia. we have a democratic governor in kentucky. we've on ballot initiatives in traditionally conservative midwestern states. when we talk about the issues that are at stake when democrats are clear about it, then voters respond and they say, actually we do want a society where our rights are protected and that democracy is respected. we just have to talk about these issues. i mean, one of the big issues is, is the age of president, bi, dot com, be hidden to comp,

be brushed away into the carpets. so just wanting to the people that you've pulled, and you've spoken to how many either concerned about a to be the candidates, especially posted by them. but also how many of those come to this really honestly, if you can give me all this done. so i really and decided about who they want to vote full of whether they should be voting. a tool in the, in the selection is always the issue. is that a vote to apathy? i think you really nailed it here. the choice for many of our voters isn't just between trump invited is between voting or not voting at all. and i honestly, if we're being honest, i think the candidates under estimate are certainly actually even more on the democratic side underestimate how easy it is for the person to choose. not to vote at all if you don't tell them that the stakes are important or you don't confirm to them that their vote actually matters. and there's no reason for them to show up. we see this among younger voters in particular, or voters of color who are skeptical of the system at large and as something is
1:45 am
a force for good for them. so when democrats in particular and i see this all the time to the people that we advise. when democrats don't understand that the states themselves are really the way to win here, it's not about, you know, the got you moments or the quick little sound bite, which i know this. well, we're all looking for the debate. when we fail to realize that voters actually need a reason for either these candidates to be relevant in the 1st place to their lives . then they could choose just not to show up. it's not about democrat or republican, it's about whether or not their vote matters in this democracy. so that's a piece of advice that you could say to both candidates, but something i worry about a great deal indeed in terms of your research as well. i mean, we've got 2 candidates who are not all in the right, these young people looking at the selection come beat, perhaps feeling disenfranchised, that they really don't represent me. is that something else that you found?
1:46 am
well, i don't think it's actually that easy or that consistent, for example, in the democratic primary, both in 20202016. the candidate that really held the hearts of young people, young, politically active people in this country with bernie sanders. basically the same age as job. i didn't actually my own sen, bernie sanders from vermont. so it's not simply an issue about age, although i know we talk about all the time, we put it in the media all the time. the bernie sanders was the candidate of young people for not one, but 2 different primary election cycles. if it were just for about up to young people, but his interest would be the present, the united states. so many interesting ways of looking at how these debates happen and then who should be that, who shouldn't be that perhaps i should have said it's good to speak to you. thanks so much for joining us from washington, dc. of course, my pleasure. the experience in today's, of the news,

the wanting to people in sedona struggling to find to the food every day. now that will dig is according to the united nations, which says the country is facing the wells was tongue, a crisis which is projected to get was well feedback on says that does not have enough funding to address the level of need. we all know is again, stime not only to have enough resources, but also to be able to deliver these resources to people who are on the verge of starvation. and when you talk of the walls, largest home, the crisis, we're looking got half of the country. so the 100 causes coming guys fighting between the army and power, military rapids, a full full sales goes on for the 14th consecutive month, community kitchens that become

working age. so the news worked in non formal factors before the conflict. lack of access to the jobs as fighting continue means many have lost their income. fighting has also limited supplies in markets and increased fluid costs. so we need to kitchens like best provide food for thousands of people here in under mine. but the city isn't the only place in the capital where people need help getting enough to eat. the high cost the food and it starts at the end markets mean many around the capital can no longer afford to feed their families. and that's contributing to the high numbers of those around the country already facing the same problem or 8 agencies such as the world's flu program say more than 40 percent of the dance population are facing hunger here and undermine kitchens being available like this one. notice how to trim kitchen means food for a family for the day. the initial unit, but if we took care we provide for more people, we may give out 5 kilos of lentils, and that would be enough for 2 days for

a family cooking. it helps us seedmore families and we provide food daily. some of our kitchens provide for up to 2000 families. the sedans government says such initiatives are welcome to ease the needs of civilians affected by the conflict mission now and then how much more. i mean, i took i out with whom i thought what matters is that provides help to the citizens because our capabilities, government is extremely limited. kitchens are directly type the communities we coordinate with them and they're open to all the initiatives. we are trying to develop kitchens from wheezing in lines and serving them in their home. there's a few in the hudson in west fights and continue the number of those in need of food supplies is increasing. for many here waiting in line is the only thing that keeps them from starving, at least for one day, even more than all just their own. i'm through mine that i had hail and i was is a, the way it gets longer for the full, the bunk is not a problem. it is a monk con support is. does it get released from jail?
