the the, [000:00:00;00] the, i wrote my this in your, what do you, i'll just do this continuing coverage of a shooting it, a riley, a former us president, donald trump in the state of pennsylvania is just after 3 g m t going to bring you up to date with what's been happening just shortly after 22, g m t. trump walked on stage and the time of buffer for a scheduled campaign. raleigh degrees with the crowd, and he started his speech, but only minutes into his address. shots rang out injuring the former president and killing of these one audience member. john henry has been on the raleigh in buffalo,
6:01 am
pennsylvania. the apparent attempted assassination of an american president non folded minutes after he began to speak. if you want to really see something, the said, take a look, what happens? it is. donald trump spoke to the friendly pennsylvania crowd, shots rang out and the former president hit the ground. the list president said his name is it time says i want to get my shoes and i heard that directly from him. they must have fallen off when he'd be pushed them down on his right cheek was a tear drop of blood right here. then when he turned, you could see the right here from the top of the year to the bottom. blood wasn't pouring blood,
6:02 am
but it was blood secret service. goodman responded within seconds, killing the shooter. as other agents swarmed truck. one other person in the crowd was also killed when he were coming up after the secret service as far as with retreating him and putting it into a secure vehicle and bring him up. the president is hit or nip right here. according to the my photos he was bleeding here and down in this area here as far as on the right side of his face. trump offered more detail in his own statement saying nothing is known at this time about the shooter who is now dead. i was shot with a bullet, the pierce, the upper part of my right ear. i knew immediately that something was wrong when i heard a whizzing sound shots and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin, much bleeding took place. so i realized then, what was happening to president joe biden locked in a heated campaign against trumpet,
6:03 am
condemned the attack. there's no place in america with this kind of violence. it's sick. it sick? it's one of the reason why we have to unite this country. we cannot allow for this to be happening. we cannot be like this. we cannot condone this. what began is a cheerful event with thousands of the supporters, a former president, donald trump lining up to see his last rally before his nomination for president, ended in gunshots with people fleeing in fear. left unexplained is how a gunman was able to get so close to the former president in an area that had been swept by secret service agents were backpacks were banned, inspectors screened individuals. the secret service is investigating the incident as an attempted assassination. john henry and l g 0, butler, pennsylvania. i don't understand the president joe biden has spoken to donald trump off to the shooting. we're going to hear more now from eye witnesses. i was
6:04 am
standing there and all of a sudden it sounds like fire crackers going on, but then i heard the shots and then all of a sudden somebody hollers get down on the ground that everybody's going down on the ground as low as they get. then the secret service comes run up through and says, everybody out get out of here now. and they ushered us out of the area. all. it's rattling around the grandstand, one hit this bigger tower and chaos. around the 1st. after her death, shots got fired. then the hydraulic line was spraying all around the drawing soon coming out of it was, i mean, it wasn't that there was a fire. horrified. i mean, i was at the shop. i mean the stuff was coming up besides people to do that. i don't know. it's just a hit scanning, it's absolutely something it's,
6:05 am
it's gonna drive people to even be more for him. i mean, especially when that picture comes out. what does this happen? just 2 days ahead of the republican national convention. it's going to take place in milwaukee, wisconsin kicking off on monday. it's expected to last through until thursday. not the convention. trump is likely to be officially nominate as the parties candidate for the 2024 elections in november. these expected to announce his pick for vice president. he said he's going to make a stipend either just before the r and c checks off all during the convention. thousands of republicans, they're going to attend and they're going to be speeches from big donors, big named politicians. donald trump, of course, is done as the main speaker republican supporters of already become gathering in milwaukee for the event. some have been talking about the shooting my just the right jerry milwaukee. i really anticipate the events that we're going to have in my friend just starts and then said, are you watching tv?
6:06 am
no more garage at the convention and i know and she said what she said to me or something. i just my, her job, my, her job, this is going to be of the setting week. we have so much spring in our direction for our country essentially. so immediately i just pray for present terms and i'm praying for everybody of those conventions that's happening because 6, it's just scary times and i know motion to hire what's going on. america right now is very sad policies. you're trying to do something to take down, shutting down. the people of justice will be served in trump will be back, makes you sick. really? it gives you the political discourse. it's always been down for them. i think so much of it is just heights. you know, that gets people riled up to a point where that would happen or that opposing political views are so contentious
6:07 am
that people can't stand the thought of someone else's. political b is to the point where they would take action to make an attempt at a candidate for him out of interest. joining us live from milwaukee wisconscin. let's talk about the convention. first of all, i'm trump, of course, saying that he is going to definitely be at the convention. he's out of hospital now. it's going to be interesting to see what the impact of the events of the last few hours are going to have on the atmosphere. there of the, well, you wouldn't expect anything other than donald trump to, to say that he was going is due to appear here on thursday. he may well appear by video at some point before that to talk to supporters at the people that were coming here were coming to praise donald trump. they were kia to low attempt. they were here to talk about how he should be the 47 president of the united states. so the idea that there would be anything other than i'm excited that must be, it would be mistaken in the sound. like going to be heightened by what has happened,
6:08 am
but what is also going to be heightened is a security around milwaukee was already quite tight. in the next 24 hours. we expected it to go up a couple of notches, it will go up significantly because of what has happened here. we are that as the donald trump motorcade made its way to the hospital in pennsylvania, it was followed by a police helicopter. and clearly uh, its security has been stepped up at trump towed in new york at some of the other properties is golf properties. and it might have lago in florida, and there is a can sound about what happens. and obviously there will be questions to be asked know, joe biden has spoken to donald trump just in the last couple of hours. he said he was going to try and put a coal through. he said that what happened was sick and there should be no room for political violence in the united states. and we have james, cool not who is the head of the highest oversight committee? he is a republican, he's a storage ally of the,
6:09 am
of donald trump. and he says that there will be a heating on july 22nd into the events of what happened here. and in particular, they want to speak to the head of the united states security service, the secret service to ask them exactly what went wrong. but someone who could be so close to donald trump could fire a gun and cause so much have a. yeah, and it's going to be interesting to see how both sides, i'll say yes, of the divide to respond to this, particularly in the way the leadership a response is going to be watched very closely. and of course, with a convention coming up, it's going to be interesting to see how the republican leadership decides to react to what has been happening. particularly of course, in the run up to the election. so that the people i be speaking to in the last few hours have said that there is a moment here. there is a moment for political leaders in the united states to try diffuse the rest of it
6:10 am
to try and calm tensions. and it's not something that's happened in the last year or the last 4 years. even the last 8 years. this is something that's been running for more than 20 years. now is the time for leaders to show leadership to try and suit pensions. but it's made much more difficult by the fact that on social media already, the conspiracy theories are being spread that in social media already both sides of pointing the finger at one another by both sides talking about how the height and political tensions and something like this was almost inevitably bone to happen. what is clear is that many people across the united states and it's just after 10 o'clock here in the midwest, many people in the united states will be going to bed tonight. what about what happened? this was the peers an assassination. attempt on a former president, and they will be what it up of what it means for the country, particularly as we are 5 months from an election,
6:11 am
which has already been incredibly contentious. and it doesn't seem as if there's any prospect of things cooling off anytime soon. and thanks very much indeed. ellen fisher talking to us from milwaukee. the island ministry used executive director of progressive democrats of america. he's joining us live from los angeles in california, one to just pick up from one island. our correspondent was just sitting there in terms of there being a potential for defusing, the, the, the amount of tension that we've been seeing or politically and in the united states. and yet, some of the response has been to national responses. have been interesting. argentina is probably a 1000000, as the leader there blames already the international left off to the shooting. we don't know anything about the shooter. and yet already the conspiracy theories are beginning to spread. yes, and as a spokesperson for progressive democrats, of america's executive director progressive democrats of america, and as such, a spokesperson for
6:12 am
a significant portion of the american left. we completely condemn these actions and absolutely condemn all acts of political violence of this type entirely. and that they should have no place in a democratic society. and so we certainly are very goal in our opposition to for president trump, but absolutely unequivocally condemned us. and i know of no faction of the very broad progressive left in the united states in any way, shape or form a condensed, this kind of action. and yet where we're still left with the, the level of tension that we've been seeing in us politics driven in part is all i'm was just talking about there with regards to the social media and the direct interaction that people can have when terms of putting their political views forward is there. do you see any element within what has happened over the last few hours that would create a window of opportunity to try to diffuse the amount of tensions that there is in us politics, phenomena because of social media?
6:13 am
or do you think this is just how it is now as well? i think for one thing, it's important to point out that in the united states, we went through a period in the 19 sixty's where there are a number of very high profile political assassinations. the kennedy brothers, martin luther king, malcolm x et cetera, and there were attempts on present for an attempt on president reagan. this hasn't been a prominent part of the american put the landscape. we did have gas, he got a difference, almost got killed the member of congress a while ago. but of course we do have all these mass shootings going out in the united states. and one can see some kind of overlap in those phenomena. but of course, those are not at events where there's high security and there are course going to be security questions. but i think everybody emphasizing all factions in of american politics need to emphasize that we can not allow any way, shape or form to have political assassinations. again, be part of the regular landscape and hopefully we'll see unity on those fronts. now in terms of social media, you know, i did notice the actually one of president. i don't want to start, you know,
6:14 am
drawing barbs at the republicans right now. but i did notice that judy vance, one of the who's considered one the 3 top candidates to be named vice president in the next few days by donald trump. he, uh, on social media posted that he very much blamed the democrats for this, our building up to this, not directly blaming them, but that, you know, the claims that this is an excess that donald trump represents an ex, essential threat to democracy. and, you know, and finding that kind of rhetoric, the democrats had to be held accountable for that, which again could be, could produce, of course, some dampening down of that kind of pointed accusation to trump. so again, i think that's quite a legitimate accusation. given what we saw on january 6th, 2021, the way the trump refused to accept the results of the last presidential election, but still more comedy, more stability. always a good thing is, especially in this kind of, you know, power kick situation we have because the, the tensions in the divide. and the animosity is very real in american society. and i think if there can be, you know, everybody who went, donald trump, i imagine,
6:15 am
is going to get a considerable amount of sympathy, which, you know, hasn't been comments in mainstream media. and i think at the level of humanity, we should all of afford sympathy to him. and i do think that presents an opportunity to maybe see a dampening down of these kinds of height and rhetoric. i would hope though, that of course, in terms of content, nothing gets you know, taken off the table because again, we need to secure our democracy. the way to address i want to pose is donald trump and we certainly do a progressive democrats. america encouraged people to practice democracy to achieve that effect and absolutely unequivocally condemn this. and of course, i'll say one final thing is, of course, one component of what has transpired over the past few hours is we don't know the profile, so to speak, political profile of the shooter. there's no doubt that that's going to play into people's both the, you know, the honest assessment and probably the imagination of some people on social media when it gets revealed. and i think we'll learn those things going forward. but yes,
6:16 am
there's an opportunity to maybe try to lower some attention, have a political election which is about issues. and hopefully one in which we return to affirmations of a proper and democratic practice. if i can say, and that started to go on for so long. you know, we have the, we do recognize donald trump, for instance, is a, is a singular character of the american political landscape for his character, bruce prisoner, for his, his, his deep connection with his base of supporters. but the more that threatens democracy, we've b o has much, much more to do with the broader structures of american society. the mass of wealth divides the power that wealthy people in wealthy business institutions have that distorts our democracy. in the sense that a significant subset of that group of people don't really want to be bothered with having things like democracy interfere with their rulers, society. donald trump is just the vehicle for these now institutionally powerful forces. so, you know, that's,
6:17 am
that's the level of which we think the debate has to take place and then move forward positively from the account. i want to ask you just for a brief response. i finally, if you don't mind because i appreciate you giving us the insight that you have. but if you would advise me, president biden's administration. now, in the light of what has been happening, there are obviously going to be done across are going to be looking at the situation with regard to the election and how they are going to be able to use it on our i adopted if you like to benefit them going forward if you're in a position to advise the, by the ministration and how they react to this, what would you say? well, i think they should, i should think they should do what they have been doing, which is accord is much human sympathy. as they can to donald trump and encourage that the presidential election national dialogue proceed on way that, you know, people are all respected in and you know,
6:18 am
one of the big problems for the democratic party writ large and in many people's minds progressives is that, you know, that did that part using as having contempt for a lot of working people across the country. and i think they're into the democratic pardon, needs to reach out to the broad working class middle class population in the united states of america. and you know, they recognize that their concerns are priorities for the democratic party. and if you look at where the gap is in the pull right now, is the near times to comple recently where there's this huge gap. we're now working class voters in america. i think this was just the most recently our times po. if you go down to the tabs and look into the details at a 20 percent lead overbite, and that's now the democratic party is supposed to be the most important as policies are more addressing the concerns of the working class. i think if it's focused on those issues and there's things don't go back and can point to i think that's actually the key to the american election going forward. as for donald trump right now, yes, i think you'll get a good amount of seem to be that may produce some short term trans transformation
6:19 am
in the polls. but at the end of the day, i think um, you know, how he responds to his commitment to democracy. if this changes anything with that going forward. and you know, i do think if he does signal that it would probably help him in the polls. but i'm not really here to help him with that, but the democrats need to, you know, still not move away from the fact that trump and his political allies have really moved to weaken american democracy to encourage people for greater democratic participation. and again, i think the key for the democrats is signaling to average american household that their concerns are the priority concerns of the democratic party right now. out of men's case executive director of progressive democrats of america. thank you very much indeed. so thank you so much. all right, and it shows a republican strategist and she says the increasingly toxic american political discourse has led to this moment. i must say, um, i am completely shock. i've spent 8 years warning about the increase of political
6:20 am
violence and extremism in this nation. a political operative who like me, who's worked in the political arena for 17 years. i have never felt a moment like this. i was a tiny girl, barely born when uh reagan was shot in washington dc outside the washington, hilton, i will remember this days of the rest of my life. of the immediate former president of the united states was shot. this is america. i'm not surprised. i've been waiting for this day, almost. i expected it. i will get. what can you say about a former president who when he was still in office on january 6th, 2021 standing at the ellipse of the white house, addressing supporters of his. and we know now through transcripts that were made available through the january 6th select committee on capitol hill that he was fine with people bringing weapons through the back nominators at that. riley on january 6th, 2021. what can be said? when we know these facts, of course,
6:21 am
people with guns are welcome at trump rallies and look, trump rallies. like i said, i've been on this network many times talking about how i do not support the former president. i don't vote for him in 2016. i have no, i did not vote for him in 2020. i am not supporting him this time around. do i have never changed my registered republican status, but i'm still an american. i'm still a person with eyes and ears and a heart, and i can say that this shocks the consciousness no matter what, everything changes from here on out. i cannot overstate how not to this moment is as the republicans roll in to milwaukee where again, weapons are and are allowed to be taken into the convention. promises in cleveland in 2016 and they were also allowed. but so we should expect this kind of thing, but it's not right. and it's so wrong and it highlights how the charge, the retro creative politically in these united states. we have less than a $120.00 days to go. and this re set everything and we're going to be back here in a couple of minutes, was more than the upon the assassination attempt at donald trump. stay with us,

the 2 are 0 to 0. i'm going to bring you up to date with what's been happening in the past few hours or is it it? donald j. trump showed a up to 22 gmc informing us president donald trump walked on stage and bought the pennsylvania for a scheduled campaign. ronnie is bridget the crowd and started his speech. trump was just forming off, but was only minutes since it was addressed. when shots find out that she likes a couple of months old, and if you want to really see something, this said, take a look what happened the, the top was watched the valley visibly bleeding from his ear. he was taken to local medical facilities. folks when later reported from was being checked and he was

called fine, law enforcement officials say the incidents being treated as a possible assassination attempt. he was speaking of a sudden we heard pop, pop, pop sounding, a lot like fireworks. then we realized all the secret service, it was at least 4 of them, jumped on the stage, pushed them down, and all that, they were the news people around them on the front. they pushed them all down to the ground. the president is hit or nick right here, according to the my photos he was bleeding here and down in this area here as far as on the right side of his face. lots of secret service there of that size and stream down to the venue security poured in, handicapped as were overhead. and police with guns drawn patrol. the area that was on shortly after by law enforcement that the shooter was killed by the secret service. at least one attendee of the body was killed. that all reports that one

other person is in a critical condition as nobody can hear. well, um i was kind of in the back seat of god. and um, i had just asked someone standing next to me to take a photo of me with president trump in the background. and he took 3 photos and then suddenly a whole body of shots went off and we knew immediately what it was. and the man who was taking my photo, it said that doesn't sound good. and then immediately after that, people started to run. some people started to get down on the ground. nobody really knew what to do. and our 1st search for, you know, is president trump ok? and then i heard as we were going out that they shot the shooter. and i don't know how he could have ever she could have ever gotten into the valley because they had excellent security. but let me ask you about that what, what, what security do go through. i went through one of the store ways, you know, magnetometers, hector, metal detectors. i had put everything in putting my car keys, you know, on the table next to me, my credit cards, my license so you know, nothing went in with me for that. and you know, people,
6:28 am
i guess people really didn't expect that this was gonna happen. you know, but um it was uh, it's unbelievable. it really is. unbelievable. could you see? did the president look okay to you before i present far away and of course people started to panic. so i really couldn't see what was happening on the stage. but again, our 1st thoughts, everybody's 1st thoughts were, is the president okay. and uh, you said that you had heard that the, the gunman, presumably a gunman, wasn't too far from, was, was the shot. i heard that he was shot. someone was on there. weird and the shot here to come from right to my right. and it was in the back of the arena. yeah. it wasn't too too close to the sound like it was pretty far back. is there any reason to believe that anybody else was,
6:29 am
or there were several shots that sounded like yes the nobody was hurt, but there were a lot of sense. right. and we did see an ambulance back there with flashing lights . and any other observations about what you saw in there? um no, just as the police were really well organized and directing people out, you know, and it was very orderly. and um, you know, people were not like history took more angry and very concerned about james davis is the find out of touch science strategies exist communications firm. he's also a republican political strategist and he's joining us live from las vegas. thank you very much indeed for being with us. they are and see is going to kick off on monday. donald trump says that he's going to be there, he's out of hospital now. how does the republican party handle this situation going forward?
6:30 am
well i think that it gives trump another boost in this selection overall, you know, he was the really present it as a victim overall in some of the, the prosecution cases earlier this year. and uh, and then, you know, obviously this ratchets things up quite a bit. uh, the chronic uh photo. and the footage of him, when the secret service was covering him, his shots were still being fired. he had already been struck in the, in the, in the side of the year on the head and finding you can hear the footage and him saying, no hold on, hold on is gotta any stands up and pump suspicious in the air with blood trickling down the side of his head and the flag just draped right there in the background as
