12:00 am
well, the, i'm actually being told that you need to, uh, okay, teddy, we're going to, yeah, we're going to go to the press conference with the secret service in the palm beach county sheriff's office. we have just begun talking about this potential attempted assassination of president donald trump. we're not going to go there. right. so keep that in mind and we'll be good. so here we go. all right, one started this afternoon, call came out, shots fired, that was called advice exams, because where it costs the contact with them all the time. we were notified of that and we had units here that immediately see a lot. very fortunately we were able to locate a witness that came to us and said, hey, i saw the guy running out of the bushes. he jumped into a black nissan. and i took a picture of the vehicle and the tag which was great. so we had that
12:01 am
information, our real time prime center put it out to the license plate readers. and we were able to get a handle that vehicle when i bought the 5, as it was headed into mark county, we got a hold of martin county sheriffs office alert them, and they spot of the vehicle and pulled it on and detained the guy. after that, we talked the victim, i'm sorry, the windows that witnessed the talk to him up there. and he identified as the person that he saw and one of the bushes that jumped into the car. now, in the bushes where this guy was, is a k 47 style rifle, let us go to backpacks which were home on the fence that had a ceramic tile of them and a gold frame which he was going to take pictures. and so those are being processed right now. the secret service agent that was on the course did
12:02 am
a fantastic job. what they do is they have an agent to jump on a whole ahead of time toward the present. and that was that. and he was able to spot this rifle 0 sticking out of the fits and immediately engaged that individual at which time be the individual to call. so that's what we know about the investigation. we have somebody in custody right now. that is a potential suspect. we got a little bit more work to do on it. what is we usually do? as soon as we decide that we're going to book a visit, a county jail. i have the charges that he's going to be booked into will get comes to you will get a picture of them and we'll get you his background. so now go to turn it over to the representative of the secret service and he's going to print i good afternoon, everyone card 1st for bank of boulevard long for some orders to be on the sheriff's office in walton county sheriff's office for their involvement today. off when the
12:03 am
president, donald trump is safe and on the form of following a protective incident shortly before 2 pm and sunday, a trump international golf club at west palm beach. the us secret service personnel open fire on a government located near the property line. in this matters on the all turn it over to my partners over good afternoon everyone. my name is jeffrey daughtry. i'm a special agent in charge of the. 1 miami, you all the. 4 is assume the role is the we federal law enforcement agency in the investigation of the incident that occurred earlier today at trump international golf course. here in west palm beach, florida. we deployed a number of resources, including investigative teams, crisis response team members on technicians. the evidence response team members
12:04 am
as well. what we need right now is for the public to avoid the area around the golf course. we will continue to support this investigation with the full resources of the guy alongside our partners with the united states secret service in the palm beach sheriffs office as well as martin county sheriffs office in state and local law enforcement. i would ask that if anyone has any information that may assist with this investigation, to contact our tech line, 1800, call f b i or at tips that's t i p s dot f beyond dot gov. thank you. i am dave aaron burst state of the train from palm beach county. i wanna thank sure, bradshaw in our partners, the local state federal levels. i'm here because our prospers are currently working
12:05 am
up warrants and a motion for pre trial detention for the suspect. and that way he will be kept in custody, but our filing of these warrants in charge of the state level does not preclude federal charge that could be coming in the meantime, it looks like the warrant and a pre trial detention motion will happen 1st. and again, i want to thank the cooperation we've had with our federal partners and at the local level. and i think i'll be here today. okay, we're gonna make these pictures available to you and it will show you a picture of the backpack and the rifle. and there's also a girl on the fence there where he was not on the film and what was going on. even though we're going to have to secure a couple areas around the, the golf course here. the public doesn't need to panic. we know that we got to post office library and still down the street. so we'll make it convenient for to get all the questions you need to go get your kids to school,
12:06 am
get them over here to post office or wherever else you need to go. it's safe, there's no more danger here and we'll make it very convenient for us. so having said that, we're going to take a very limited amount of questions and you can direct them to who you want to answer the question. sure. know statement right now, as far as is involved in the incident and this further investigation to be completed. that is correct. yes. and there was one or 2 holes behind that because the bubble needs to be off course. so our agents will get their 1st cleared. you notice that the rifle was pointed out,
12:07 am
our ages engage. we're not sure right now if the individual was able to take a shot our, our agents, but for sure our agents were able to, to engage i, i probably between 3 and 500 yards with a rifle out of scope like that. that's not a long distance. that i i'm not sure where that is correct for 6. sure. yes.
12:08 am
okay . say that one more time to talk a little bit. well you gotta understand the golf course is surrounded by february so, so when somebody gets into the shrubbery, you're pretty much out of sight. i am at this level that he is at right now. he's not the city present. if he was, we would have this liar golf course around what because he's not security is limited to the areas that the secret service deals. and so i would imagine that the next time it comes to the golf course, you'll probably be a little more people around the front here. but the secret service did exactly what they should have done. they provided exactly what the protection should have been,
12:09 am
and their agent did a fantastic job. the layout of the horse, you've got 3 holes. $56.00 is one of them. rugs parallel to some boulevard. one of them has parallel the cops and he was an area in the trip in the shrubbery where he could see holes. so the president was on the whole back. which means he's about between 4 and 500. 0, he's all the golf course. yeah. he's back always yes, the, the threat level was higher. we have increase the, the amount of assets that we've supported. so we are,
12:10 am
we live in the range of time. so yes. the questions right now, we just want to tell you the secret service in the industry attorney's office has been fantastic to work and i can tell you right now our agency with this real time crime center was fabulous. that's how we got the guy. we started out with we don't know anything to where we had a tag. we had a visual description and we've got a area where we saw the person to be proud to be proud of your long. all right. thanks folks will get back to you. okay, that was the secret service, the and the palm beach county sheriff's office giving an update on this attempted assassination attempt of donald trump. and just to reiterate what they were saying to an agent, spoke to the rifle, pointing through the fins of the gulf coast of donald trump was playing at that,
12:11 am
engaged the person which means that they fired at them. he then slid, made it into a vehicle and left behind him and a k 47 width and with a scope as well as a bag and a go pro. uh, the local police were able to track the person down and he is now in police custody f. b. i have obviously opened up a investigation. donald trump also released his statement. he put on his website a short time ago saying, i am safe and well, and no one was heard. thank god about the people in this world who will do what ever it takes to stop us. he went on to say, i will never stop fighting for you. i will never surrender. i will always love you for supposing me through all unity, we will make america great again to okay,
12:12 am
well some more on this. we're going to go back to a petty cowhide who is in washington, dc, and petty uh, the fbi. i obviously taking this extremely seriously, a gunman with a load of a k 47 style rifle able to get within 4 or 500 jobs of the form of president on the term moms soft. uh uh he was actually heading the year by another attempted assassination and you heard the sheriff say that's because he's not a current president and that next time he goes to the golf course, there will be a much bigger presence there. uh that is interesting. so we're looking at the potential government being between 274 meters and 457 meters from the former president. we don't know if he was able to see the former president. what i thought was interesting is when they are asked about, did he this person fire off a shot, the secret service without being asked that he said, we're not sure if he fired at one of our agents. so that would seem to me reading
12:13 am
between the lines that nobody that this person was not able to take a shot at the former president. but again, some interesting things from the press conference and really police, you just can't get any luckier than they got in this. they say that there is that the secret service agent scans, the tree line to is one or 2 golf holes ahead of president for president trump in the bubbles. they call it so he goes ahead. he or she goes ahead to clear the area just to check it out, sees a long does stick, you know, through the trees opens fire on that person. the person drops their gun runs and somehow there's a witness there who sees the person running, realizes it might be suspicious, takes a picture of the person of their car, of their license plate, goes to police and say, this is the person that you're looking for. and they can talked about the license plate readers. basically there's technology all over american cities like this, where you drive by your license plates is costly being scanned and goes to
12:14 am
a computer. and so they're able to find this person quickly pull us around his car, pull him over, they said he was very calm, didn't put up a fight while the sheriff, the other colleagues said they didn't give a chance to put up a fight. so so, but then another interesting thing, he, it's this person that set up a go pro. so i think most people probably know where to go pro is, but it's very, very small portable camera that you can take, it's a film. and so you'd apparently attached it to the fence, so he wanted to have video of what had what ever was going to happen. interested, elucidated to backpacks that had surrendered plates in there. and so for those who don't know what's around the plates are the a very level of sickness, that's what you put in your you, you've seen or refer. busy to those where they're bullet proof vests, it's not just the best. it's the ceramic plate that covers all the important parts . so it currently i'm going to, if they to backpacks was place, perhaps he was going to put one front and one in back to try and protect his core.
12:15 am
so they are calling this in the attempted assassination. obviously if there's a former president on a golf. busy there's a person with a long gun, a scope, a backpack, backpacks, his bullet proof of service plates at the camera. i think he's probably safe to assume that that person was there to in fact, shoot the former president. so again, lot more information we got out of that. a big question is going to be and you saw the sheriff's deputies there say, look, secret service. this agent did a remarkable job. there are going to be questions. why was the perimeter not pushed back further? because they did say after the last assassination attempt that they were going to bring in with help with us military, they were going to increase the presence now one possibility and secret services kind of push back. uh, you know, sources with the secret service through the media say look, donald trump is an incredibly difficult person to protect because he just will not listen. he demands a staff demands that we do x, y,
12:16 am
and z. we don't want to do that. and so we're going to be looking at what the president, former president demanded or secret service. but i think it's fairly safe to say that after this there's going to be a whole lot more secret service around the former president as we are less than 60 days to the presidential election. that said, for a former president and a candidate, he really does have a huge motorcade and a lot of secret service around to more than others. but again, donald trump sort of a is a politician in the us. so we haven't seen maybe ever. uh, so he's a very divisive candidate. he said after the last as, as a nation attempt to was going to tote it down, turned out his right, or the, a kinder gentler candidate that lasted maybe a couple of days. so of course we're going to wait to hear from the former president, but i expect knowing how down terms handle things in the past that he will want to get in the front of the cameras as soon as possible. indeed, as you mentioned now, obviously the secret service, uh and local police incredibly lucky with how things have played out no doubt,
12:17 am
many will be coming out in the defense saying that this is exactly the type of planning that goes in to ensure that of one of the protect days doesn't actually get heard to assassination attempts. so in 2 months, what does it do? we know donald trump is an extremely divisive character, but what is it about donald trump, at this point in time of his political career? that is drawing these assessment ation attempts, these people that are doing everything that they possibly can to, to assess the nice him as well. we don't know the motives in this case. we don't know the suspect yet. we will be looking to see, they said they were going to release some pictures so far as the motivation for the assassination attempt, where the person was able to fire off a shot, they have not been able to determine what his motivation was other than he wanted to be famous, he had google the eat of john f. kennedy. the fascination of that uh, google. different political events and he was from the area and donald trump was
12:18 am
coming to the area and there's been, no one has been able to and people been trying to pin this on some sort of that he was some sort of democratic supporter, but i think was the guys come down to and not officially because obviously the investigations aren't going, but this was a really troubled kid who was bullied, had access to a firearm. and what, what into, to make history? what did to be famous? they wasn't necessarily just because of donald trump, so it's going to be interesting to see what the motivation was for the suspect. the one thing the republicans to try to say is look, this is happening because democrats have called donald trump and x a central threat to democracy. and i think most democrats will say that's pretty rich, considering the rhetoric that comes out of donald trump in his allies. that the, let's not forget, it's just some of the things he has called next skins, right. this the people, undocumented immigrants, a coming from is
12:19 am
a saying asylums which they are not. he went on the debate stage is still continuing to say haitian immigrants in an ohio town are eating people's cats and dogs. their pets now is thrown in geese, and these words on from him have very real consequences. we see haitian the asian community is absolutely terrified of in bomb threats in this town. we believe that there they are being targeted now. so this is going to be just more fodder. republican, his supporters are going to say this is because they have a positive bite and for by our current vice president cala harrison democratic national. now many has said that he is an excess dental threat to democracy, to the future of this country. he to that, that he's going to be in the 3rd period, if he's re elected to the site project 2025, which is associated as a, to the, his campaign. they're going to say, look to the town down the rhetoric. i think they're going to be talking past each other. this is a country that is deeply,
12:20 am
deeply divided. people really set in what they think is right and true. not a lot of people talking to each other, just talking at each other. but again, we'll have to wait and see who the suspect is, what their motivation was, and we all leave an incredible digital fingerprint, which is why it's been so amazing that in the usa station, the time from july, they haven't really been able to figure out any motivation other than this was a kid in google, mass murder, or how to assassinate people and the former presidential assassinations. so again, a lot is remains to be seen, but it does seem now that the person was not able to get a shot off at the former president. but again, police, you just import flushing police investigations. you don't usually have someone walk over and say, hey, i just saw this guy. here's the car, here's the license plate, an o i took a picture, but again, the secret service agent being able to scan the trees and sees a long gun. that is going to be very people are going to say that was an amazing
12:21 am
job secret service that was going to get a lot of criticism for the fact that anyone was able to get that close to the former president especially now. thank you so much, petty, no doubt. we will come back to you in the coming hours. there's more details and reaction come out to this petticoat line for us there in washington, dc. but we're going to start with a story and goes to call and clock who is the director of research at the so fine group at the level intelligence and security consultancy. he joins us from pittsburgh in pennsylvania. thank you so much for being with us on what of sending out to be another remarkable afternoon of the in the united states. chris, of all your reaction to this attempted to assess the nation attempts just to mom's up to the 1st one on the form of president donald trump as well. thanks for having me. i should say, i just recently returned from new york city, where the sea fonts center held its 1st and all roll global summit on terrorism and
12:22 am
political violence, thursday and friday to follow the 911 anniversary. and i can tell you that nobody of the $500.00 attendees at that conference, which included top law enforcement and counterterrorism officials, is surprised at this recent turn of events. the topic of political violence is dominated those 2 days. we discussed left when violence, right, when violence and everything in between. uh and i think as the previous corresponded alluded to where the highly polarized political climate. we live in a country, a wash with weaponry. and there's a constant fresh stream and on ending incessant ubiquity, a stretch stream against the top political figure. so not surprised at all. and i hate to be the bearer of bad news. probably not the last form of political violence that we're going to see between now and november to say nothing of what happens after the election ended calling. can you use to cast through uh, from a security point of view. exactly how you saw this playing with it. from
12:23 am
a correspondent, the petty co home saying that really the secret service and local law enforcement were remarkably lucky. in the fact that someone was able to take pictures of the suspect as he was running away, as well as his vehicle getting his license plates. and that's how they were able to apprehends him so quickly. yeah, well, i'm hesitant to talk too much about the details because as you know, a lot is still emerging. often in these situations there's a lot of misinformation, not necessarily deliberate, this information. although there's some of that too. uh i've, i've lived down the street from the tree of life shooting and in 2018. and there was a lot of misinformation flooding it. we see it after almost any kind of act of terrorism or political violence. i will say after what happened, not too far from where i live. uh, 2 months ago and butler, pennsylvania. uh you would think that there would be kind of a thing of steel around the former president. so the fact that we had somebody get
12:24 am
so close with an a k a and prepare or at least be in position to take a shot, a surprise and get it of itself. the capability pieces there clearly and the intent is there, and we'll have to wait to learn more details about how somebody was able to identify this person and take a picture. thankfully they did and then lead to a quick apprehension. and you know, like everyone else will be very curious to learn the details of what his individual is and then work towards some kind of amount of without going too much into the details of this particular incident. can you just explain how the secret service would normally on any of the day the donald trump is that any of the golf course actually go about protecting him? because obviously a gulf coast is extremely wide and open a by is very, very niger and making it very hard to defend from a security point of view. i would imagine for sure. yeah,
12:25 am
there's going to be layers of security. right. the outermost rang and then kind of kind of concentric circles were in where there's going to be people, costly patrolling or should be, you know, what i heard it alluded to before. well, he's not the current president who's the former president of that's true, but he's a for president that just has an assassination attempt against his life. one would think that there would be an exquisite security surrounding the former president. there's also a current presidential candidate. and there's also somebody that look, this is not a political statement, it's well known to someone that's highly divisive. i highly antagonistic. there are a lot of people that don't like donald trump. and again, we live in a country where we, you know, we have easy access to the most sophisticated killing machines on the face of years . people with mental illness, people with other issues that would lead them to engage in these acts. and so it's, it's kind of amazing that within a 2 months span, we've now had these incidents. but again, for those of us that fall this closely,
12:26 am
not necessarily surprising if you follow this stuff online, the vitriol, the rhetoric it's, it's kind of on a 10 out of 10 and again, not to be dr. do here, but i think we're probably going to face some more issues in the lead up to november. and certainly in the aftermath, and you say it's not surprising, obviously you only 2 months off to that initial assessment ation attempt against donald trump, where he was had in the year what sort of screws in it is the secret service going to come on to now i mean, actually intense scrutiny, right? i think every layer of what the secret service does is going to be scrutinized. rightfully so. the secret service, it should be transparent about that. and the goal is to protect american citizens and protect the elective elected officials regardless of of party. right. and i think, you know, the secret service is a gnostic to, to politics, their job. and these are people that lay their lives on the line every day. and it's a very difficult job. what's not take the slightly for what they have to do. but
12:27 am
yeah, there will be a review of what's going on. there will be an intense after action report and there should be look and meet. we should demand that as american citizens, right, as taxpayers that we hold these agencies and institutions to the highest account. and we've had to, it's donald trump isn't exactly the easiest person from the secret service has point of view to i guess the cue a, a to protect. so many people have said that he will just do whatever he pleases. i mean, that must make it incredibly difficult uh, from the secret service has point of view to actually give him the best service that they possibly can. i guess that is now going to be changing. one would assume what one would assume and, and sure, maybe the president can be resistant to certain ideas, but it's a secret service is job to override those concerns and to coax control and do and
12:28 am
convince whatever they have to do to make sure that they can protect the president, so i think look for the present and certainly it for president rather doesn't want to be put in this position. it's a very difficult job, but you know, this is a job that's a secret service service does typically does it quite well. so i think, you know, it's going to be business as usual with maybe a little bit more scrutiny going forward. okay, thank you so much call on. we really do appreciate you brushing all of this down for us. uh, pretty much as it happens, colin clock director of research at the refund group. thanks so much. i thank you for the palm beach sheriff say is the suspect. pointed a rifle at the trunk golf course through a fence. they were covered in a k 47 style rifle as the saying 130 this afternoon. call came out shots far. that was called the secret service. because where it costs the contact with them all the time. we were notified of that and we had viewed us
12:29 am
here immediately save a lot in the area. fortunately, we are able to locate a witness that came to us and said, hey, i saw a guy running out of the bushes. he jumped into a black nissan, and i took a picture of the vehicle and the tag, which was great. so we had that information, our real time crime center put it out to the license plate readers. and we were able to get a hit on that vehicle on i 95. as it was headed up to mark county, we got a hold of barton county sheriffs office, alerted them as a spot of the vehicle and pulled it over and detained the guy. after that we took the victim. i'm sorry, the witness that witnessed. so yesterday i talked to him up there and he is certified as the person that he saw one of the bushes that jumped into the car. now in the bushes where this guy was, is a k 47 style rifle with
12:30 am
a scope to backpacks which were home on the fence that had a ceramic tile in him and a go freight which he was going to take pictures. so those are being processed right now. the secret service agent that was all the course did a fantastic job. what they do is they have an agent that jumps one hole ahead of time to where to present was that and he was able to spot this rifle barrel sticking out of the fence and immediately engaged that individual. at which time the, the individual took all the s b, all i say is it's taking over the investigation of the incidents the f. b i, there's assume the role is the we federal law enforcement agency in the investigation of the incident that occurred earlier today. a trunk international golf course here in west palm beach, florida. we deployed a number of resources,
12:31 am
including investigative teams, crisis response team members, found technicians, and evidence response team members as well. what we need right now is for the public to avoid the area around the golf course. we will continue to support this investigation with the full resources of the f b. i alongside our partners with united states secret service in the palm beach sheriffs office as well as martin county sheriffs office and state and local law enforcement. but for more than this, we had to go into once again by claim kyle, who is the us national security and foreign policy specialist, is also a former c. i a kind this time services officer. he joins us now from boston in the united states. thanks again. for being with us here. when we spoke to you last time, it was before we heard from officials. since the end is there any doubts listed? this was a and assess the nation to attempt on donald trump. it certainly
12:32 am
sounds like it is one to me. i suppose one could come up with a number of reasons why a person would be carrying a military or rightful in the woods. so since there are dozens of millions of them floating around in the united states, and many people claim that they want to use them for supposedly benign pleasure. the reasons. but realistically, this seems pretty clearly to have been the pay person waiting to shoot at the president. yes, i'm not sure if you're a width and 6, but, but can you just explain to people that might not know exactly what an a k 47 is? and, and especially with a scope attached, we know that the, they got within about 35400 meters of the full of presidents. as i can tell you, i've shot them many, many times as well as the american. they are $15.00 and $4.00 and so on. so in
12:33 am
a case $47.00 is and, and the similar rifles are, these are military assault rifles are hunting rifles. they shoot, they have a cartridge that will have about $32.00 bullets. they can fire a single shots or like a machine gun that we see in the movies the, they're accurate with the naked eye. so to a couple of 100 meters or $300.00. after that distance is if it comes very difficult to see something the size of a person accurately, and then there's motion to mation and much, much more difficult. but with the scope or rifles of his store, it will be legal and accurate for substantially for the 300 meters up to a kilometer. and more so the person was certainly in range to fire accurately at 300 meters. and we, as we heard from officials, they would, they would show at this stage just that suspect had actually fired at
12:34 am
the secret service. will anyone else on the golf course? well, what do you make of the wrist? because as we heard the from a corresponding petty calhane described it as remarkably lucky for the secret service because they had a witness who was nearby that was able to fill the suspect, fling jump in the car and get a photo is getting video of the license plate and that was how they were able to track them down so easily. what you make of that is that just a remarkably lucky from, from the secret service point of view as well is good fortune. and i, i almost don't think i would call that luck in today's societies where there are our, i don't know how many 1000000000 of smartphones that are in the world, but each one of them has a camera. so almost anything that happens, this can be filled is caught in real time by somebody someplace. it is quite
12:35 am
remarkable that way much different than the world was 20 years ago. so it was a good break that there was somebody there. but that's not too surprising, even in july, in the last attempt to assassinate trump. there were people, of course, there were thousands of people that a but, but many noticed them and, and filled him with their cameras. so that's fortunate, but i'm, but not too surprising with everyone walking around with the phones now. the way the way things are in 2024. can you just give us an idea of the fact that it's less than 2 months of the trumps 1st assassination attempt where he was actually hit in the air that someone with a high powered rifle was able to get within $35400.00 maces of donald trump, i mean, is that a massive security lapse here on the secret service is pop a? yeah, i would say it is not of it. it would be a, were the,
12:36 am
had the incident occurred in a closed secured venue. interino wherever, seeing him standing now on the screen of something like that can be secured, much too much higher degree of coverage than a deal out of doors. and as we were discussing earlier, if you're on a golf course, which is kilometers long, constantly moving with large visitors and, and i'm told number of people who cannot be seen to advance the secured. so then. ready the challenge for those assigned to protect emissions, the for the effects president or whomever becomes dot dot. so in that regard, does it now, do you think impossible to 100 percent guarantee a protect the security?
12:37 am
even with the boss boss, was it was of the secret service. yeah, yeah, it's simple answer is yes, i think it is impossible to protect anybody 100 percent secure if they step out of a secured facility. certainly pretty much locked down the narrow lago with the white house or other residents like that. if, if a person wants to go and play a round of golf, like we know, donald trump loves to do this is no way to 100 percent guarantee the the safety i think that is correct. and something that i've thought about many people side, but who are assigned to this the task. i'm sure i hope more than that. i have some issues with the evolving technology of drones. you have to a whole other level magnitude of, of threat because you don't have to even be in the line of sight. you're going to be kilometers away and go to a stand, you know, just
12:38 am
a routine shop by a large number of drones, shit, in a hotel, some place or on a golf course. when the target is, or indiana rena, or the stadium, or who knows where the and direct them towards the person, there is the challenges of providing a complete security are daunting. and i think the 100 percent security is probably impossible in, in an open society. he may be in north korea or progressively in china, but not in the society. that is, that is a free and open society glen. uh, thank you. once again, we really do appreciate your insight on your input into what is being uh, a remarkable afternoon in the united states going call the us national security and foreign policy specialist. thanks again. any time.
12:39 am
okay, if you are just joining us, we continuing our breaking news out of the united states republican presidential candidate donald trump has returned to his west palm beach hunt. i've developed the fios, his was an attempted assassination on his life. the seconds in 2 months, law enforcement officials, ty ss big, has been taken into custody, and trump has released a statement saying he is safe and well the local police side, the suspect was not um when they took him out of his vehicle as 714 right now north of here is this shut down. we have stopped the vehicle that the secret service in palm beach county sheriffs office passed all one for some to mobilize and interstate to my parking its picked up the vehicle. the phone for bit were able to continue using some of our bigger vehicles that we use for specialized
12:40 am
stats. we got the vehicle stopped since then the api i am sick was responsive to say it does appear that we we certainly have the vehicle involved in this model logo and we have the suspect that they were looking for. and now the guy and the secret service will take over that. this is. so what's the process with that now that you've identified this vehicle? are you have you, did you take them into custody or is that all going into the hands of the secret service in the up the re initially it took me to trust them. so they arrival of the so the search was looking for a weapons that may be in there will not be up to the federal authorities. and then at this possible was that like stopping him, you know, you were out on looking for him. every law enforcement agency around this area was what was that process like for you guys here in marin county? well, i missed the stop. i was on the way from home. it's uh,
12:41 am
it's hands on the radio. we knew that we had a boatload. the look out for somebody who opened fire on the president is up today . there's probably not a more follow to potentially dangerous for 2 of them that are used for completely locked on. we were we were ready to go at the vehicle slides. we will stop that, of course, today hasn't been con 5. we were ready to engage. thankfully, because good tactics stopping across the only stop getting them out of the vehicle . coming back to us, we were able to stabilize the same for that any further. give us a timeline here. when did you site down to find that vehicle and when were you able to at least stop that? it was just right after 2 o'clock this afternoon, following the ball load the being looked at the receipt from south of us. back to our regions picked the vehicle and then we waited a while we didn't stop and by the way we did mile high speed chase. so we were able to wait to have adequate units, survived the vehicle and then forced to to a stop. i know this is a fluid situation, but did the suspect put up any fire?
12:42 am
did he stop? once you realize that it was multiple vehicles there? following him? we did not give him an opportunity to fight. so we have to contains forced off the road, taken out of gunpoint, pull back, and what we call suddenly stopped. and it was safely taken into account. and as you said, you believed may be the suspect and the vehicle involved in the hands down mar, logo. i know it's still very fluid situation here. this is the vehicle and this is the suspect and he isn't. so is he in the car? see right now the martin county jail, or is he taking somewhere else? because the involvement down tomorrow, ogden is currently in custody by the morning. as soon as the f b, i said for service already discussed the over to now for for more and this is cross now to petty calhane who was with us uh once again from washington, dc and petty can you just give us an idea of what the reaction has been brought across the united states. uh, since we heard from uh, the officials,
12:43 am
the secret service official saying that this was indeed a assassination attempt on the phone. the president, as well as exist right now people are just absorbing the news because for so many for 2 and a half hours of actually more than that. $33.00 and a half hours. we really didn't know exactly what it happened. and so we're just now . busy knowing exactly the details as the police say that we do know that the vice president probably harris who's running to be president against donald trump, put out a statement, say that they she and president joe biden have been briefed and that they are happy . they are happy that donald trump is safe and that violence has no place in america. i think you can pretty much get what the reaction is going to be from trump supporters the most that it has mostly. busy supporters, they are going to say, look, this is proof that the deep state watson got even though we don't know any of the details about a possible motivation for the suspect unit. we're going to hear from democrats,
12:44 am
just like we did in the last chapter, attempted assassination, that it's time to bring down the rhetoric. this is a campaign like no other where this has been so divisive and the country is so toward a part, you're not probably going to see this make room for a lot of conversation. so what to just go over again. what we know for people who just turn in donald trump was on his golf course. trump international golf course in west palm beach, we believe is on the 4th hole, the agent agents had gone ahead. they called the protective bubble. so agents are always ahead and behind the protecting this agent secret service agencies. somebody with a long gun along and pointed through the trees, engages as they say, means shoots at the suspect, who drops is 18. 47 type assault weapon and runs. and because obviously the witness who had was there, but of the heard shots fired, seen someone running not remarkable. if they had
12:45 am
a phone remarkable that they thought to actually use, it. took a picture of the car, a black nissan s u, v. as a license plate found, the police said, here's the guy i add, they put out a bowl or be on the lookout and in cities across america, they have something called the license plate readers. the cameras that are constantly taking shots of your license plate goes to your computer. so they found the suspect very quickly. of police in the county, just north of west palm beach, surround his car, pull him over. busy he goes and i think it's important. busy what we just heard from that shares before. he said that somebody shot at the president, there is no evidence of that. again, initial reply. busy are always. busy confusing secret service says they don't know if the government fired a shot at their agent in return. so there's been no mention at all that this person was able to get a shot out at a shot off at the former president. but we do know it was incredibly close about
12:46 am
for between 274 meters and 457 meters with a scope on that kind of rifle. that is not a hard shot to make. so we don't know if at any point the former president was in the line of fire. we do believe that the suspect had a go pro with the small amount of camera on the fence to backpacks. the police a contained ceramic plates. so just reading between the lines there, you might think that the backpacks with ceramic plates, which is what you use and bullet proof vests. we're going to be used to protect the front and back of him. again, the suspect is in custody. we don't know the motivation. we police are going to release his photograph and his name probably in fairly short order. again, a remarkable chain of events. the question that people are going to be asking is, and the reporters asked the sheriff about this, how can i and after, and this touched assassination attempt just over 2 months ago, how can someone get within that, that close to the former president who's running to be president again and his
12:47 am
responses while he's not president, so he doesn't have the same footprint. i can pretty much, almost guarantee that's going to change. now. they're not going to want us the president dial drove on the golf course. if he is going to be on the golf course, i think you're gonna see a lot more assets put to his campaign. he already has a lot and people might be asking, you see, we resist secret service agents and they have all of the staff at all. they're actually incredibly short staffed right now. they have a huge problem with hiring. and they've asked the us military to come in and provide some help and cover in the former president. so expect you're going to see a much more robust security presence around the former president. because again, this campaigns not getting less tons, not getting quieter. the polls or the dead heat democrats for their parts. a donald trump is an extra central threat to democracy. who wants to be an autocrat, a dictator. for his part, donald trump easily one of the most divisive politicians in modern american history
12:48 am
. so it's not going to get quieter, it's not going to get calmer. this is a high stakes election. keep on all sides. feel that. and this is of, as one of our guests said, this is a country, a wash and very powerful weapons. so very much just starting to realize what in fact happened. remember, we heard about this from the campaign. it wasn't even the secret service or the police are notified. reporters, the campaign put out a statement saying, shouts refer. busy busy near the former president, and there's been a lot of different versions now, but now we have the official version from the sheriff's department and from the secret service. that in fact there was somebody who clearly apparently was set up to try and take a shot at someone on the golf course. i think it's probably safe, just so. but it was the former president, a series of events. the secret service spotted him. witness found in police caught him. it's just been a remarkable couple of hours. and we hope to 5 more in the coming hours from now. yeah. and a penny. it has been over michael afternoon. yeah. i know that you've been following
12:49 am
the selection extremely closely. being all over the country, as well as the, the republican and democrat to campaigns. can you just give us an idea of exactly what the mood is like they use to describe it is excrete, extremely divisive. when you've assigned a campaign quite like this, do you think that anything is going to change up to the 2nd, assess the nation to attempt and if so, what will it change? the the, the last 50 days of the selection campaign? no, i don't think it will if it has any impact or it will be the donald trump is going to likely fund raise off of this he did over the last is asked to they should attempt much more explicitly that he has up until now during this one, but we've already said, you know, he's for the statement, i value your support. so that's probably going to come. and it does tend to work with his supporters is, is fundraising in july was the last attempt went up about 24 percent. he raised a $138000000.00 in that month. so whenever he's conducted of
12:50 am
a crime or. busy or the assassination attempt, he tends to fundraise off of that and he needs the money he's falling behind the democrats on that. donald trump, after the last assassination attempt to staff all says it's going to be a much kyler gentler president. the president sell it for president, said that he was going to bring the country together that what we needed was unity that lasted all of about 2 days. just to give you some perspective on what the former president was doing before this assassination attempt to put on his social media 4 feet and all the capital letters. i hate taylor swift. taylor swift obviously is the internationally famous pop star who is endorsed conway harris. so is, are we going to no longer see treats about taylor swift in and probably we are because this happened before. busy or he was actually shot at and it actually hit his ear and he wasn't able to stop himself to the unity he promised didn't happen. so i'd like blue change the campaign,
12:51 am
but it will probably change the secret service and day. thank you so much penny. we really do appreciate all of the best pity come home for us in washington, dc of the best of all the news now. and after months of denials, these riley army has consented. 3 captives who died in guns of late last year were killed by is riley shelling the bodies of earlier tele donna nic. advise you and rome sherman. with the confident december, israel had previously denied responsibility for the depths military official site. at the time of the attack, there was no intelligence indicating captives were held at the location where they were killed. home to salute has this update from the drug dining and capitol mom, because the is really government, his bandages era from reporting inside his room. these rarely army released a statement saying that it conducted an extensive investigation about an air strike
12:52 am
that was conducted on november the 10th. the military says they were targeting a senior him, us official and had no intelligence whatsoever that there were captive in the nearby vicinity. now the bodies of the captives were recovered on december 14th, and the military is finally acknowledging that it is really airstrike is, would kill them. the military went on to say that they do not conduct airstrikes showing or any other sort of attacks. when there is intelligence or information about the whereabouts of top davis, but this is just one in a series of intelligence and security failures by these really military threw out the last 11 months. the greatest of those failures was also back in december when these really army shot and killed 3 of their own captives. there's been a lot of frustration for me is really public from family members of is really captives who have said the policy, the benjamin netanyahu, and his cabinet are not going to bring about the release of the remaining captive,
12:53 am
saying that he is neither capable nor willing to accept a deal and you have to remember that for the last couple of weeks there had been consecutive protests against israel's government falling for a deal to bring about the captives gwinnett. and y'all, who maintains that military pressure is the only way to bring them back. well, family members of the captive say that that is doing the opposite of the central dentist needle on these rarely, miller traces early investigations contradict, declined by humans for the ripples that they find a hypersonic. and the solemn 2 is rarely territory as well says it was a less advanced ballistic missile. and the military acknowledge the projectile evaded as well as early a defense system and was only partially destroyed. some of the debris lands close to the international airports near tel aviv is ready. prime minister benjamin netanyahu says the who these will pay a heavy price for the attack. well the, who's the say the missile was painted with a pell us in, in the or sky. the groups is it was targeting and military position and adjust the

area the width and was launched from human at doing triggering air ride sirens, and central israel at $630.00 a in the who's the side of the missile coveted distance of 2040 kilometers and 11 and a half minutes. on june 5th, they on filed a solid fuel missile saying it was the 1st operational use of the hypersonic miss home. while the who, the side of the missile is luckily, made it less believe it resembles in a rainy and design capable of hypersonic speeds. well, from all on this, we joined now by david. the russia is a professor at the national defense university and a full, a pentacle, and director of arabian pen in charlotte affairs. he joins us now from washington, d. c. thank you so much for being with us. now. there's obviously some dispute, although if this was ballistic missile or a hypersonic missile, can you just explain the difference in which one you believe it is or? and also it doesn't actually really matter. it wouldn't matter if they had
12:55 am
a true hypersonic. so this is the who sees iran, russia, china, and north korea have all claimed to have developed hypersonic missiles. the standard for that is that it goes very fast about mach 6, and that it can maneuver the speed itself is actually pretty easy to achieve. most ballistic missiles have that ability and dismissal probably traveled fast, but the maneuverability is hard because the, basically the control surfaces on it or not. uh, so i think that the, if, if it were a true hypersonic would be very difficult to intercept. this was intercepted so i think what you have is the classic parabola, a trajectory of a ballistic missile, where instead of being intercepted of high, it was intercepted close to the object and that's why we saw the debris uh, full uh, near the pool. the telephone gave me to the who have the ability to actually
12:56 am
develop and build a messiah of this nature, or did they have not have from around or off? is like we've heard many other people say yeah, this is, this is uh guardia or missile. it's in rainy, in missile with a cookie paint job on it, but we don't know, it is in the past, they've imported missiles and shipping containers that were cutting the sections and 12 of them together. it could have been imported in sections they could have been imported in whole and where it could have been imported as components and locally assembled. iran has been getting passing the information on. for example, to 11 he says paula to actually manufacturer missiles, although not of the sophistication. one of the main challenges with this missiles it's, it's actually different from the missile that the who it is on build earlier. it has a liquid 1st stage and then a solid and 2nd stage. and so that level of complexity, even if that was the square developing of missile that would probably not be the
12:57 am
approach they take. okay, thank you so much at that. we will have to leave it there, but as always, we do appreciate your input and expertise and to all of this to thank you. i want to go back and remind you all about breaking news out of the united states. the south republican presidential candidates donald trump has returned to his west palm beach. hunt often won't. the b, i say, is, was an attempted assassination. the seconds in just 2 months after he was hit in the air at a rally in pennsylvania and back in july, the law enforcement officials say a suspect has been taken into custody. trump released the statement, saying he is safe and well, and he is failing to fight on. we will have much more on this, on our website, as well as in the next down because it's all for me to mccray for the moment, but i will be back in just a moment with much more of the dice use,
