damascus. a dates has been set for us, president elect donald trump, to be sentenced in his hush money criminal conviction. it's scheduled for next friday and that's 10 days before his inauguration, the president elect was convicted of 34 accounts of falsifying business statements in relation to a hush money payment made during his 2016 presidential campaign that's close to heidi's across was running us from washington dc, so any response from the trump team on this development? yeah, we have heard from a, from a spokesman who said that there should be no sentencing. now trans attorneys have tried to dismiss this case altogether, arguing that a ruling from the us supreme court earlier, which said trump would have presidential immunity should make this case. and his conviction moved. however, the judge in his ruling today sat in the sentencing hearing described trumps

conduct in 2016 as pre meditated and continue his deception by the leader of the free world. and he said that vacating the verdict would cause immeasurable damage to the citizen raised confidence in the rule of law. what's unexpected here though is in fact both sides have been arguing to the judge that the sentencing should either not happen in the case of trumps attorneys. or at least be pushed back to after this 2nd term in the white house. that was the argument from the prosecutor side. and so it is quite surprising that the judge, in fact said no to both of those requests. and he said this sentencing date just 10 days, as you said before, trump will be sworn in back to the white house. the judge did say in this ruling that he does not expect to give trump any jail time in the sentence. say, he said rather he would recommend unconditional discharge, which means no serious punishment for these 34 felony convictions, however, it would stick to trump's record. and that means that if trump is unable to escape

this dentist, i mean we've heard from sources that his lawyers are ready trying to appeal this. but at this time, this thing happens next week as scheduled, then the us will have its 1st convicted and sentenced felon survey in the white house. hi. be, let me just ask you to remind us of the context of, of all of this. absolutely, this was one of the 4 criminal cases that trump faced leading up to the november election. it's the only one that went to trial in which he was found guilty for sending hush payments to try to cover up an alleged affair he had prior to the 1st election. he was found guilty, sentencing was continuously delayed. he went onto when the election and it was sort of everyone's guess what would happen next, but with expectation, but he would likely not suffer consequences. this throws all of that up in the air, but we'll have to see what happens next week. okay,

the top stories on i'll just sierra israel has forced to hospitals in northern gauze or to evacuate under threat of attack, staffing patients. if the engine easy and, and allows the hospitals were told to leave immediately, more than a 100 people are believed to be allowed. the hospital alone, before ministers of france and germany had been in serious capital for the highest level visit by western diplomats has been full of sense. they say they'll drive the new administration based on what happens during the upcoming transition. you as president elect donald trump, will be sentenced next friday and is crushed, money, criminal conviction, and that's just $10.00 days before his inauguration. i know your judge says he's not inclined to impose jail time on trump, who has been fighting for months to dismiss the case. while the us house of representatives was re elected mike johnson speaker, the republican faced the opposition from some members of his own party,
1:19 am
despite being backed by president elect donald trump. today, my friends are a nation, is the envy of the world. why? because we have been marked by a spirit and the people who are explicitly that we are explicitly american, we don't try to be like other nations, and we recognize that a strong america is good for the entire world. and everybody around the globe knows that right now, and fisher has more from capitol hill in washington dc. a big win for donald trump . mike johnson was the man that he backed. he was the man that you made phone calls for. and finally got him into the speakers to you, but it wasn't without drama. so was a pallet, but 6 republicans didn't vote for johnson. and 3 others voted for other republicans . eventually they were put under pressure. 2 of them switched their vote and that was enough to make johnson speaker of a 100 and 19th congress that he says he's going to follow an american far as the agenda. let's go to monday from the election in november and that means securing
1:20 am
the border, cutting taxes, and also trying to make life cheaper for ordinary americans. the democrats say they will work with the republicans with the con, but also they will oppose some of the things that have been suggested by donald trump on the campaign trail. but that's makes it much easier for donald trump when he comes in. one is an organization on january the 20, if he wanted this process done and done quickly, he's got what he wanted and of course also means that his election can be certified on january the 6th. i'll in for sure. i'll just see them on capitol hill in washington. okay, we're now going to speak to jennifer victor who is a professor of political science and george mason university, joining us from fairfax and virginia. thanks for your time. so as we be, so as we've been seeing, there was drama on the house floor before, johnston was re elected. it's being described as the narrowest house majority in a 100 years. what does this mean for his ability to govern? yeah, it means that johnson has
1:21 am
a real uphill battle ahead of him. it seems that he has negotiated with a couple of holdouts, the very basis of the power of his is leadership to get this majority vote a in a way that may contradict the way that he governed in the previous congress. last congress and the 100 and 18th. we saw johnson a speaker, make a number of deals with the democratic party and bill coalition, coalitional majorities that included republicans and democrats, and now his party is demanding that he cannot do that. and it seems that he has been elected speaker on a promise of not doing that, but the likelihood that he could pass the big ticket legislation and, and hold his very narrow majority together is, is pretty slim actually. so, so what does this tell you about the unit? see, or perhaps this unit see within the republican party and is it a sign from the rebels? those who sort of went against him earlier this evening that they can take him down as well?
1:22 am
i think we've been seeing this from the republican party for the last number of years. this is a, a political party that contains a faction that is dominant and in bold infection. that is highly tied to incoming president donald trump. and they're definitely feeling more empowered. but there are other dissenters with in, within the party. it is, it is not, you know, a, again, this party is made up of multiple factions. and the speakers job is to try to balance all of those factions and try to keep them on the same page. but when it comes down to it, a number of people in that more trump oriented section are not interested in things like compromise. but often we'll see kind of what we saw this afternoon, which is a members of that faction who appear to primarily be interested in attention. you know, the, they held out their votes for a little while. they got some attention on themselves. they went and negotiated behind a closed door with the now speaker, and they came out and, and changed their vote without even going through
1:23 am
a whole 2nd ballot. and so it's unclear to me exactly what concessions may have been earned in that very short period of time. and it didn't last long enough for me to think that they were very large concessions. it almost seemed kind of like a, a show that was a flex for power. but what johnson had survived this without trumps endorsements. yeah, that's a good question. um, that's perhaps unlikely that if you know, donald trump has been critical of johnson in the past and he did come out in favor of him. and it does seem like that both trump and johnson spence this you know, past uh, number of days trying to negotiate and persuade members of their party to support johnston. and they pretty much got him over the over the line there today, although it was touching go for a few minutes. so we really does suggest that donald trump is the leader of this party and has significant sway over what's going to happen. it's unclear exactly what the relationship between trump and johnson is at this point. for the most part,
1:24 am
it seems fairly warm and friendly, but they have come into conflict. in the past, whether or not johnston would be able to pass elements of trumps agenda without building any bi partisan coalitional support remains to be seen on i'm fairly skeptical about some of those higher ticket items so. okay. thank you so much, jennifer victor, professor political science at george mason university, speaking to us from virginia. thank you. thank you. as well. emergency shelters and mexico are bracing for a potential influx of citizens ahead of donald trump's and i'll get ration later this month. he was, president elect has promised mass deportations of undocumented migrant starting from day one of his administration. as julia go yano reports from through on up mexican border. it's from tijuana, excuse me, mexican border cities stand to bear the brunt of the policy. displaced from their homes by growing violence. hundreds of mexican families spent the holidays in
