inhabited castle. >> we've pretty up got everything covered at the bbc here indeed. the ceremony, the carriage procession, yes, the wedding and more. we are here on our sofa. stay with us throughout the day on yours. of course ours and everyone's full attention is going to be on the bride and groom. prince harry who is sixth in line to the throne and meghan markle, an american actor and humanitarian campaigner. so where are the couple of the moment right now? prince harry is staying where coworth park and yesterday afternoon he and his brother, prince william, the best man, did something rather fabulous. a little walk-about, much to everybody's delight and surprise, among the crowds who were out on the pavement all day yesterday in the sunshine in windsor. they didn't know they were going to get that. delighted. very good weekend, no front teeth or not. there we go. and meghan has been staying at cliveden house. there she is.

she arrived yesterday evening with her mother, doria ragland, and they both, it must be said, cut quite the dash. if that was the dress for just going into the hotel, honest to goodness. and both the mother of the bride and the bride-to-be looking, it has to be said, incredibly relaxed. meghan is close to her mother and in an interesting break from tradition doria is going to accompany her daughter today as she travels from cliveden to windsor castle. we hope to have live pictures of that coming up a little later. it was yesterday that the groom's father, the prince of wales is then going to walk the bride down the aisle. >> as you might be able to see already huge crowds gathering here at windsor. the doors to the crowds opened a couple of moments ago. it's estimated that 1.9 billion people will be tuning in. >> and i really wish you hadn't said that.

>> as we take this global conversation on youtube, so how are you celebrating. for me, charles and diana, it was all about the street party. any street partying happening today, if you made any royal wedding food, are you getting married today, are you annoyed about that? do you know another harry and meghan getting married, we want to hear from you using the #royalweddingbbc1 and we'll take a look at how your celebrations are going. >> the doors to st. george's chapel won't be opened until 9:30. that's when the 600-odd guests are allowed to find their seats. so poised, ready and waiting for that moment with really a cracking view of the castle is our colleague, hugh edwards. >> look at this, it's a pretty wonderful view. good morning, everyone. of course this is one of the most iconic views in the world. there you have the round tower

of windsor castle, the background, it dominates the landscape for miles around. it's a view familiar to many millions of people around the world. make no mistake, as you've just underlined, it is a global event with a massive global audience, focusing on windsor. we have some of the best seats in the house from our great position. we're kind of on the roof of the guard room of windsor castle and overlooking what's known as the lower ward of the castle. this is where we can see people gathering already. those people especially chosen to be inside the grounds today, lucky people. they're just starting to settle down. the picnic baskets are there, the deck chairs and the blankets too. i don't think they'll need a blanket. it's very, very warm already at just 9:00. it's going to be a very memorable day for all of them. the couple really wanted members of the public, young and old, to

be a part of these celebrations. there are more than 2.5,000 people invited inside the grounds. they will get the chance of course to see the bride and groom. all the chapel guests making their way to the chapel later. we'll be talking to some of them. on the far side of the lower ward, just take a look. just take in the scene. glorious blue sky and a glorious piece of british architecture, st. george's chapel. the doors opening, as we know now, at half past 9, and then we'll see for the first time what the florist, the very talented florists have been doing inside. timing, let's talk about timing, what's the day look like. the bride will start the journey to windsor leaving cliveden house at ten past 11. most of the wedding guests, district instructions to be in their seats by 11:15. members of the royal family start arriving at galilee entrance at about 25 past 11. prince harry and best man duke

of cambridge are arriving at the great west door, the main door of the chapel at about 20 to 12. and then the big moment, the moment we're all waiting for when the bride will arrive with the bridesmaids and page boys, ten of them and then the service can begin. in around 20 minutes or so wedding guests will start to arrive. nothing official released on the guest list but there are some pretty big names on it and we'll expect to see some familiar faces, close friends from the world of entertainment, sports and music, people from charities and organizations that the couple supports so a very broad mix of people. covering the comings and going from their prime positions just a few yards away from me, anita and dore. >> good morning. >> we feel honored to be on the ground alongside st. george's chapel for what is going to be an extraordinary day.

with him. how is he behind the camera? >> um, i always say this, he's brilliant on the camera and he comes across as a lovely bloke and he's even nicer in real life which is remarkable considering when you look at the sort of environment he comes from and the fanfare that surrounds him, to have a normal functioning human being. i think a big part of that comes from his service in the military. really i see him as another captain from the army. >> i did a battle of the british show with him in 2015 and he came down and we were doing a fly-pass and the two injured veterans were going to go with him in the three main planes. on the morning one of the planes just wasn't air worthy and he gave up his seat and he should have given up his seat and the fact that he did says a lot. you spent a lot of time with him. >> that's entirely him. if i'm completely honest, i've never seen him do anything for himself. this is the first time where the occasion has been about him but

at the same time he's giving it to all the people. that's the way he is. >> it's really about meghan. >> well, that's true. >> a lot of us, i'm sorry, but i'm a real rugby union girl -- >> that's okay. forgive you. >> a lot of us don't necessarily know quite so much about the prince's association with rugby league. how involved is he? >> it's still quite fresh. it's only been over the last 12 months he's become a patron. he's been involved on a couple of occasions and has been absolutely fantastic. one was an event where he was in and around hundreds of boys and girls. he joined in, had a big smile on his face and was passionate about being there. the second occasion was with our english team, men's team. he came and met them in a private meeting and was brilliant, very down to earth, passionate about our sport and about our country which is great. >> especially with league obviously and union, you go into

those dressing rooms or whatever, you've got to know your stuff before you walk in there. >> he did. he had clearly done his research and i'm sure in the not too distant future at the international games, i know what a support he is of union but i think throughout the combination of both it's really special for him and great to have him involved with us. >> j.j., you've spent time with him in the military. has he talked to you about how important that period was for him? it's pretty obvious to see. >> it's the most wonderful thing about being with him is that ultimately we've had very similar experiences. we both served ten years in the military together. he ultimately left perhaps not even on terms that he wanted to, particularly his first tour in afghanistan. so i know that through his work with the invictus games, just like me, it's itching a scratch. it's an opportunity to get back in the atmosphere of it and really sort of relish in the fact that he's kind of with the boys basically. >> when we hear him talk about invictus, it's very interesting,

there's something about it that is so utterly personal. i'm sure when he's talking to you it's personal but when he's on the public stage, there's something that he imparts. you can almost hear and feel the emotion. it's very deep inside of him. >> listen, the invictus games has changed my life in ways i could never have expected and ultimately that's all because of him. great team together, lots of people behind the scenes but he was the guy who said we're doing this in 8 months' time, 2014, and he drove it because of his passion because he lives and breathes it. >> do you think it took that person of importance driving it? >> i think it might have happened in time but it would have happened too late. the need was there and it needed to happen but also the need to get it right. it needed to be the magic that is invictus. nobody really knew what that was. he saw it before we saw it. >> nice to talk to you. have a great time at the wedding. there's lots happening and hugh

is going to tell us a bit more. over to hugh edwards. >> thank you very much. yes, just looking at my watch and we are within a few minutes of the doors of st. george's chapel opening. and i just think this is the moment we want to kind of take in the scene and to see what's been going on inside st. george's chapel over the last couple of days. we've spent a couple of days here talking to lots of those people who have been working inside the chapel. outside we're familiar with this scene now. it's a glorious scene in windsor. philippa craddock is the floor -- florist chosen about harry and meghan to decorate the chapel itself. we have the south door opening on this royal wedding day. it's the moment that lots of people now will be given the signal to come to the chapel itself and look at the decorations. what philippa craddock and the team have done over the past couple of days is decorate the chapel with all kinds of locally

sourced foliage. it really is a kind of flowing, glorious look, a kind of cascade of flowers and greenery. lots of roses, lots of blue lily of the valley, fox gloves. trees, beech and birch as well as an arch way over that south door. let me tell you, there's more to come because elsewhere in st. george's chapel you'll see that this display is truly on an epic scale. take a look at this. i n't tell you how beautiful it is and indeed the aroma when you go into the chapel itself because these roses are glorious, absolutely glorious. a little explanation of what we're looking at here, that section of the chapel, because the chapel is split into two halves if you like.

both decorated richly. one a little more than the other. this is the nave, the big open space at the west end of st. george's chapel. there you have the organ screen. you can see the case work on each side. beyond that, the much more intimate and medieval setting of the choir. this is where you have the heart of the ritual, life of the knights, the knights of the garter, this is where they hold their service. this is where they have their own seats in the choir. this is where you have the medieval display of carpentry and banners right at the heart of this chivalrous order. how powerful an impression this creates. this is the setting for today's wedding service here at windsor. we're looking at the choir. this is where the royal family will take their seats. this is where the guests on both sides, bride and groom side, will be taking their seats a

little later on. there will be some very familiar faces there on either side, not just members of the royal family but other essentially invited guests too. i'm not going to spoil the surprise at this stage. we'll see them arriving in a short while. that is the choir. back in the nave we have this glorious decoration that we were talking about. i think that's going to be one of the prime features of the day. look at that window at the far end, the west end. just take in that scene. that is one of the biggest medieval windows in the world. you have all of this floral display and kind of free-flowing look to it. it's a kind of -- i don't know. it's a blend if you like, this medieval, gothic architecture with these displays that are there and it's been done i think with a touch of genius. philippa and the team chatting

to them late last night. i asked them when they were wrapping up last night and they said actually it will be 5:02 in the morning. that's the result. by the way, when you see the west door a little later on where the bride will arrive, that is, if anything, even more impressive. there you have the west door there just tucked underneath the great medieval west window. so all of that to come but just a taste for you of the beauty and the glory of st. george's chapel in windsor, the scene of today's wedding service. >> thanks, hugh. thanks very much. once intimate and grand but at the same time it's quite a building. i was speaking to a lovely couple of ladies on thursday, sarah and vanessa. they were talking about -- it's called the choir where the royal family will be sitting. i said it looks so splendid. they found a special polish to do the pews with. vanessa who was doing the carpets, i said that looks like a hard job and she said it's a

off to africa and she was working and we said where's the gap. the gap happened to be the perfect place. i managed to persuade her to visit me in botswana and we camped out. she joined me for five days out there which was fantastic and then we were really by ourselves which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other. >> the family has been great and we had a really nice time getting to know them and progressively helping me feel a part of not just the institution but also part of the family. >> harry and meghan chose the invictus games in toronto for their first official appearance together, and just two months later at harry's cottage in kensington palace, he popped the question. >> it with was so sweet and natural and very romantic. he got on one knee. >> the ring is yellow gold and little diamonds on the side are from my mother's jewelry collection.

to make sure she's with us on this crazy journey together. >> it's beautiful. and he designed it. it's incredible. >> both of us have passions for wanting to make change, change for good. >> it was one of the first things we started talking about when we met, just the different things that we wanted to do in the world. >> i hope to try and have as much impact for all the things that we care about as much as ible. >> i'm very excited about that. >> whatever we have to tackle together or individually or us together as a team. i think she's capable. >> so nicely said, isn't it? >> she is capable of anything. >> see when i watch, i get a little bit of one of those. i'm not going to do it because we're live on tv and that would be terrible. we're joined by george the poet. he opened the show with his wonderful poem written especially for us. welcome again. it's very nice to have you here.

>> good to be here. >> it was sort of remarkable to have you talking about a modern love story that the eyes of the world are upon in that very ancient place. what was it like to read your work, to proclaim your work in such a space? >> it's surreal. it's history. very excited. it's got a 21st century spin on it. i'm very excited to be a part of it. >> we opened the show with it and i said, come on, i can't start the show with that. it's going to get me there. >> here's the thing, it's the first time you were happy with your performance? >> i am. >> you should be. >> there's probably no subject that's written more about than love. when you were commissioned to write that, where do you begin? >> so i have to remove myself from it. i had to think about what it meant first of all to the two individuals getting together and secondly to the world because it

is an event of international significance so i suppose love obviously is at the core of it had and you just got to be a bit respectful and understanding of what's happening. >> is that the kind of thing, did you take advice from anyone or do you just go, you know what, i'm going to go away -- i mean, how long does it take you? are you the kind of guy that would -- would that take you half-an-hour or months? >> that's the good question. the majority of the work for me is the thinking. it's a question of my personal experience and my understanding and then just trying to create something that -- >> people think you're crazy. >> i'm talking to myself. been doing it since i was 15. >> there's also a very interesting aspect which is the we go to poetry at intimate times in our lives, very intimate times in our lives. a lot of people may not be today but might read a poem at a

wedding or funeral service. poetry means different things to different people but it's always there when we're trying to sum up important emotions. poetry gets to the sentiment of our experience. i just released my podcast and the poetry that's covered in that is so different from what is happening here but at the same time its about that universal human experience. it's a beautiful thing. >> we'll give you that plug incidentally. that was a big plug. everybody at home got it. >> he can plug what he likes. >> poetry is giving voice to the feelings that people have in their head but haven't always been able to articulate. >> that's it. that's that universal thing that we all know. the language of it. >> you spent time with harry. >> yeah. >> what was it like and how did you find him? >> going back into 2015 was amazing. i have recently been made ambassador of harry's charity

it's a broad term, isn't it? for a royal wedding the protocol is sort of like very demure, very covered. you can be sleeveless as i am today. i checked. but i think going into the church you need something covering the arms so i think all of these ladies have done themselves proud there. i think knee length is generally considered the best option, knee or below. >> yeah. >> if it says hat, does that mean hats are a given? >> you absolutely have to wear a hat. >> at the last wedding someone didn't wear a hat and everyone clutched. so maybe we'll see an uncovered head but you'd want to not be the one that got the queen's evil eye. >> and the earl and countess of wessex, when they had their wedding it was evening and they said no hats. there is something about an

foundation is that we try and make an impact on difficult social problems, try and move the dial, change mind-sets, and you saw that with the heads together mental health work and the campaign that we had last year and the ongoing mental health work that we're doing now. >> she's obviously just coming into the family but from what you've seen of her so far, the press conference i saw, i think the energy was the thing that struck me the most. is that how you find her? >> fantastic energy and like the others, a real people person. so able to -- when we go on private visits, to sit down and talk to anybody and everybody on their level and really start to get under their skin about what is it that they're concerned about, how is it that we can make a difference and help to improve their lives. >> david, i think one of the things that people often wonder, they think, well yeah, these young royals are there for the camera and that's great and it brings publicity. what are they actually doing behind the scenes? so let me ask you, harry, what is he doing behind the scenes? >> i've been headingp the

armed forces program since 2014 ani've worked with them on many, many different programs, specifically with prince harry on the endeavor fund, the invictus games and most recently with his work to do with the military and the mental health of the armed forces community. i can tell you it's not there for the cameras. the amount of hours they put in behind the scenes, in the meetings, driving the decisions, prince harry in particular, he's got a real visionary brain. he can see where he wants the project to go and he drives it forward. >> colin, tell us about where prince harry fits in. >> prince harry has been with us for ten years so we are a national charity specifically for children so our main cause really is to get children out of hospital, make sure they can be cared for at home and have everything they need to be cared for at home. we've grown a lot in that ten-year period and he's been behind a lot of that and pushed us forward in doing that.

>> is there an instance where he met a child or a kid at one of your places and you would know this better than i but didn't the child tell him that he was waiting for the prince to turn up? >> you're never sure how children are going to react anyway as i'm sure you know. prince harry comes to the well child awards every year so he's met hundreds of families and children, some of them are here in the castle. very famous indent where prince harry had a whole conversation with someone who was 8 years old and he spent the whole time looking over his shoulder waiting for the prince in his gown and crown to arrive and didn't realize until afterwards that that was actually prince harry. >> that's great. >> one of the interesting things is that they are very, very approachable. members of the public do feel that they can talk to them. when i was on the train coming back with prince harry and meghan from nottingham, suddenly obviously the word got around so everybody who was working on the

back in 2006 set up the charity with prince harry. good to have you with us. >> wonderful to see you again. >> we chatted seven years ago in a different location but on a similar day. >> similar day, yes. >> lovely to have you with us. >> thank you for having me here. >> tell us about the day. today brings another opportunity given what the couple have done to talk about the causes that they support. >> yes. sentebale as you know, we set up in 2006 with harry looking at the plight of the vulnerable children in lesotho. that vulnerability spreads from hiv, disability both physical and mental, and we have a very unique group of vulnerable children called shepherds or herd boys. that's where our coverage is and still is. our focus is still on covering a problem or stigma through education, getting young people

involved, having set up sentebale, realizing or appreciating that we need to empower the young people to take the lead in some of these inventions. >> what's the biggest progress you've made? >> on the side of adherence of hiv patients. of the stigma, because of the mystique around the negative aspect of hiv and taking the drugs, these young people were either fallen by the wayside afraid to take their drugs. but through the camps which deals with children with hiv, we have seen a significant growth in terms of numbers that kids are now taking the drugs and now are their advocates for a more positive and productive society and communities. >> what does that work tell us -- because you know him well.

what does it tell us about harry's character? today is a day of great celebration and starts a new chapter in his life today. what can you tell us a little more about the way that he clearly wants to be of service to other people and wants to use the incredible position and influence that he has for the good of others? >> from the day he landed in lesotho, we drove all across the country and at the end of that 8 weeks, initial 8 weeks, he said is this it? he said, no, no, we cannot stop at this. i've seen and i think there's a lot that we can do together. there's a lot that can be done for the children to a point where now the sentebale model having achieved some great things in lesotho, there are still some challenges but we're now expanding the model. it's hiv ravaged and other

vulnerable groups. the best practice that he has been in the driving seat to drive, the passion to drive us into action, because he started this from -- we started this from zero but he's always had the vision, the passion. and that passion shows in the response that he gets from the young people when he comes into lesotho. they all love him. in fact, when i'm here, i'm not just here on my own behalf. i'm on behalf of the children of lesotho. >> lovely thing to say. >> very warm message from lesotho to harry and meghan that when the dust has settled, they should come and we're going to have a jolly good feast. >> the invitation has been delivered. >> yes. >> i know that you have, well, let's just say, a pretty good seat for the wedding service, a pretty prominent position in the choir. you're looking forward to it

hours of the service starting, and this is the glorious scene inside st. george's chapel, windsor, with the congregation just getting into place. here we have all the banners, so colorful, so rich. they really do respect centuries of british history. this is the most prestigious display of heraldry anywhere in the world. there you have the seats where the knights of the garter take their places for the garter ceremony. every april there's a garter service here at windsor. we're also expecting of course in those choir seats to see the choir, that is to say the singers of st. george's chapel. they are one of the best choirs in the world. they will be performing today. they've been in existence since 1838. it's a wonderful tradition. we're looking forward to that. this is the scene inside this wonderful chapel. are earl spencer chatting to some guests before the ceremony gets under way.

they've got a bit of a wait but safely in their places because lots of people were asked to be firmly in their seats by 11 or 11:10 at the very latest. we've seen a few people already taking their places but lots still to come. numbers, as we look at some of the guests here, as we look at the main body of the choir itself, some 600 people in this congregation, most of them in the nave, this space that we're seeing in front of us here. the are not individually named seats by the way. they're seated in kind of zones in the nave. the named seats are in the choir. 600 people representing friends and family in many cases, but of course as prince seeiso was telling us now, those charities and organizations that the couple feel very strongly about where they want their support, where they will be signaling their support in the future. there we have the lower ward of windsor castle, people gathering in the sunshine of may for this lovely day, this very happy day,

and it couldn't be better weather, it really couldn't be. james haspel among those arriving here. i think they are in for a feast. may refer in a little more detail later on to the kind of service we can be looking forward to. i can tell you one thing right now without giving away too many secrets, the music in today's service is absolutely sublime. a very broad range of music but it is a real treat. so let's look forward to that as well. >> thank you, hugh. we've seen the guests file in now through the south door to george's chapel. we saw the first actual members of the royal family, oprah winfrey. >> it is interesting, isn't it. we were watching earl spencer talking to oprah winfrey and we saw james haspel come and that gives you an indication of the real cross-section of british

organization, rhino conservation botswana, and to my surprise he got really interested and then i discovered that he was a conservationist, enjoyed conservation, understood what it meant to the people of the world to have conservation and so we got talking about rhino conservation and rhino conservation in our country. >> he's quite hands on, isn't he? >> we've done a number of operations together, hands on with the rhinos. we also work with people. he's particularly interested in the links between people and wildlife and in our case rhinos, yes. >> he's described botswana as his second home and we know that a couple of weeks, three or four weeks into his relationship with meghan they slept under the stars in botswana. what is it about botswana that makes it such a beautiful place? >> well, i don't know, very friendly people, wide open

changing perceptions of the royal family and royal broadcasting and social commentator. great to have you with us. >> amazing to be here. >> you look guest ready. >> thank you. you know, we are at the wedding. >> absolutely. we're outside the world's oldest inhabited castle. what kind of difference to the royal family do you think the modern meghan markle will make? >> i think that the challenge for the royal family is how to be a family that represents very old-fashioned values of privilege in a society that's about equality of opportunity and multi-culturalism. i think that meghan markle is certainly someone who represents the latter. she has become successful through her own talent and hard work. she's used her celebrity to champion causes that she's passionate about and also as a woman of mixed heritage, she hasn't shied away from speaking about that. she's owned it. for me as a black woman of mixed heritage myself, there's been a

lot of pressure in my lifetime that you're entering spaces that previously have been wide to downplay your identity. she represents a willingness to not minimize it but speak about it. for me that sends a powerful signal that you can own your identity, it's not taboo, and there's nothing essentially white about britishness. for a lot of people there's been an identity very much linked to whiteness. i think the change that that family represents is profound. >> do you think there's an inherent tension there from meghan markle because she's somebody wasritten and spoken eloquently about the subject of her own race and her own personal struggle with finding and making peace with what her identity was. there is inherent privilege in the royal family. that is the very tradition of it. she's about equality of opportunity.

is that a paradox? do you predict a tension there? >> there are so many paradoxes about the royal family and i can personally relate to this because while i have felt quite alienated of the idea of inherited privilege but at the same time my own struggles with identity have made me appreciate the need for cultural continuity. while i didn't relate to the royal family, i related to the fact that people did. i can relate to the need for that sense of tradition. as the world changes more rapidly than ever, there's a sense of history that lives today. i think that everyone can relate to the need to have traditions you can embrace. i think the royal family provides that. >> you pointed out earlier on that there's no reason to downplay your identity and embrace what essentially are your in-laws now. >> speaking of in-laws, we're looking at tom parker bowles and his wife going into the chapel. we're sitting among the splendor and completely buying into it.

do you think meghan markle makes it more difficult for people who have a tendency towards republicanism to be a republican because she represents something distinctly differe. >> anecdotally, many people i know have been skeptical of the royal family and cannot help themselves. in spite of all their ideology they just can't help it because they feel compelled by her and look at who she's invited. she's invited other self-made people, black icons, oprah winfrey, idris elba, serena williams. these are people who have real meaning for so many people and also she's giving a platform to other black talent. she's got the kingdom choir performing, the episcopalian bishop curry, sheku kanneh mason, the young black cellist. even people who are not a fan of the royal family feel passionately about it. >> we can talk all day about

the transition to you must seem a very satisfying one. >> for me it's sort of a combination of what has been a great journey for prince harry actually. he was always very special. just a very good guy and he had potential really from the word go and it's great to see it all come to fruition on his great and happy day. >> what do you think of the partnership? >> it's unbelievable. it's a wonderful modern coming together actually and with harry and his way of doing things it really means that they'll be able to do great things together, actually. >> looking at more people arriving and i'm just thinking what are your thoughts on the mix of people that we have here today? what does it tell us about them? >> it reflects the eclectic nature of prince harry in that he's primarily interested in people and what you're seeing here is nothing less than the

mix of what he's always been fascinated by, which is people. >> circle of friends is interesting for us to see obviously. because it's not obvious to the public very often where the circle of friends is and what kind of friends there are. describe the friends for us. how do they work out? >> i think it's actually fairly similar to anybody in that you layer up your friendships as you go through life. obviously it's a very different life to most of us which prince harry has had but it's school friends. it's army friends. the army has played a huge part in his life. he's obviously been in more than one regiment so he's got friends from the calvary, from the army air corps and then he's got his friends from his charitable work and the work as a member of the royal family. >> so the best man, as we know, is william, the brother. and there's a little dig saying revenge would be sweet or some such line in a playful way.

how do you think that's going to work out? what is that partnership like? >> one of the reasons that we're very lucky in this country and i don't wish to sound sycophant here but they are both really, really good guys and they both come from completely different angles, whatever you want to call it. they're entirely complimentary to one another. they always have been. you've seen lots of things they have done together over the years. they have very close and have that very healthy sibling rivalry. they make the mickey out of each other. >> marcus and carey mulligan on their way to st. george's chapel. one of the range of celebrities and entertainers, because again, just to reflect what we were saying earlier -- there you have the chief executive of the royal foundation.

there we have, jamie, possibly one of the biggest names, george and amal clooney again telling us something that this the a couple engaged in complaining, engaged in saying something. >> right back to the foundation of sentebale, harry has always had this and it amazed me actually coming across a 21-year-old boy, man, whatever, he had such a drive on that side actually. this is just a reflection of it. >> now we have the beckhams too so this is the celebrity few minutes and again a reflection of the kind of status and scope of this congregation. lovely to see them. they're all enjoying. clooneys bask is in the sunshine and admiration and applause. the beckhams clearly having a fantastic time. >> wow. the a-listers all turned up at the same time. >> that was extraordinary.

george and amal clooney. you really can't underestimate the sheer star wattage. is somebody lighting them as they walk down there? because they're shining. i'm going to say that i think amal clooney is wearing amelia wicksteb. and i'm probably entirely wrong. >> if you're right that's so impressive. >> and there we go. we see david beckham taking -- it wasn't quite a selfie but somebody was having a snap and the shades are back on. victoria is wearing a very elegant deep blue that she's wearing. a hat with a veil and i imagine her seamstresses at her fashion brand have been very busy this week. i am very, very admiring of george for many reasons but one of them is he is walking nice and slowly because he knows that amal is in heels and it takes time to negotiate the ancient

state that don't actually know the couple seems to make everything a bit more relaxed and friendly. >> do you think that's in many ways because it's here because this is the royal family's proper home. windsor castle is where they see as home. this is harry's home, the queen's home. >> could have something to do with it. >> more guests on the ground. let's see. >> well, what's so exciting about this wedding is the welcoming of meghan markle and her family within the royal family. you're one of the lucky people to have already met meghan markle. what was that like? >> it was amazing. she is so funny, beautiful, and she's just got an amazing personality. >> she came to visit you at your school at nottingham academy but not long after that she came back. tell us why. >> when she came with harry i asked her to promise she would come back and she did end up coming back in a period of less than six weeks. >> that's incredible. future royalty coming to your school.

they arrived i think the very kind of inclusive feel they represent him them. >> harry didn't have any connections with the radio station before in any way? >> i think he might have done a set back in 19 -- when they came they really started to explore. meghan had done her research and new a little about us. >> this sends a huge message, the fact that they've chosen you guys as the second official visit and the first visit was to the hiv center. >> what was it like to meet them? >> they were so lovely. i was almost like meeting an old friend. they're personable people, very lovely. on top of that, again, meghan knew everything about us without us even having to say which is amazing that she came up with facts like we train 400 people every single year. she knew that without us having to say it. for her to do that it shows that she really cares about young people and the work that we do

which is so important. >> that's interesting to hear. you meet a lot of people and we do too. you can so easily tell the difference between somebody professional and somebody who seems to be engaged. you felt they knew what you were about and they were genuinely interested. >> absolutely. the first time i spoke to prince harry, he kind of popped his ear ready to listen to what we had to say. he was inquisitive because initially he thought it was a radio station and then they said all we do is having to do with mental health. if you look at the charity work they've both done, he saw that and the reason he picked much more than a radio station. >> when we see joss stone, usually joss stone has her hair flowing, bare feet and wearing something like a cool caftan. not today. joss stone has made quite a

considerable effort. she's looking beautiful. we know she's a friend of harry's. she's played at gigs that he's enjoyed and here she is today heading to her friend's nuptials. >> what impact do you think it made for the people of brixton for meghan and harry to visit? >> it shows they really care about what we do and what we do on a day-to-day basis. as a radio station we get like 2,000 unsigned artists and it's just really important for them. >> what's happened since the visit? >> it's been crazy. >> has it? >> yeah, it has. i think the day after i went there people are like, oh, my god, you met harry, you met meghan. it was crazy but on top of that it was really good because it shone a big light on the work that we do outside of radio as well. >> i don't know if it's important to you or not but i'm interested, is it important that

the royal family is welcoming somebody who is biracial? >> the way i see it from spending time around the young people that we represent, for our generation, things like equality, inclusivity and love in all its forms, for us that's the norm. that's how it should be. but actually, with the stuff that's happened in the last couple of years, there's a massive question mark over whether is it the norm anymore. we had brexit and political decisions in the u.s. i feel like this wedding today is a massive thumbs up from the top that actually we're going exactly the way we need to be going. as you were, signed the royal family. that's what it feels like. >> such an interesting answer. thank you so much. >> thank you. >> we are back with hugh i believe. >> here we are in our garden room with our fantastic view. we've seen lots of guests arriving. with me is someone with a very precise eye on these things, royal correspondent for "hello" magazine, emily nash.

>> thank you for having me. >> we talk about fashions. what do you make of the event in terms of who's here? tell us about your reading of that? >> we've had a flurry of a-listers. it's a meeting of royalty and hollywood royalty. we're seeing lots of big names, the clooneys, the beckhams. we're going to see a few more i suspect. what i love about this wedding is you've also got other people, more unsung heroes if you like, friends of the bride and groom who have brilliant stories to tell as well. among them people like dean stotts who has smashed a record for cycling the length of two continents, got back here in time for the wedding. >> looking at the congregation, it's pretty packed there. it's really getting quite full. most of the main guests have arrived. when we see a little later on meghan arriving and we see the ten bridesmaids and page boys, tell us a little bit about the selection in that group and what you make of that. >> they have chosen children who are very close to them.

obviously you have prince george and princess charlotte, the niece and nephew of the couple. they have the children of their three best friends. we'll see the children of jessica mulroney and some of the god children as well and the mothers in there as well to wrangle them into position. >> at the service, are you expecting the content of the shape of the service to tell us something about their tastes and the fact that are they going to try to make a statement with that in terms of how modern it is in parts of it? what's your reckoning? >> i think it's going to be relatively relaxed by the standards of royal weddings. you're still going to have the formality, the national anthem, i'm sure a curtsy to the queen but you've got the gospel choir. what's not to love. it's going to be great fun. >> i'm thinking at this point when we go through the service, as you say music is fantastic, and we look at the kind of range

of people here, then i'm thinking do you know what, this is not a bad place to be in the lower ward itself. it's lovely to be in the chapel but chatting to people down here earlier on -- by the way, lots of the people in this lower ward are part of a community of windsor castle. i should explain this. there's quite a big community of people who live within the castle itself. >> that's right. >> they are among the most excited of all. >> they're hosting the party, you know. there's a real festival feeling. it's a lot of fun out there, people enjoying the spectacle. >> a few minutes to midday when the bride arrives just before the service starts, what are your thoughts on what we might see in terms of a wedding dress? clearly the speculation is pretty intense. >> whatever i say now i might be setting myself up for a big fall. >> give me a range of options. >> big names, stella mccartney

would be a great choice. she's got all the credentials, simple, beautiful, elegant styles. we're hearing other names, perhaps less expected, clare waight keller is also in the mix. she has led some very big fashion houses here. i think we're not going to know until that door opens. it's going to be a huge moment. >> prince seeiso who was in the studio with us earlier, we see his wife as well making his way into the choir. he has a pretty prominent place in the choir where the royal family is sitting. he's sitting on the same side as some of the other guests in the choir, including the clooneys and oprah winfrey among others. he's there of course because he has played such a big part in setting up of the charity that harry really has given so much effort and time to, which is sentebale. more guests are arriving and i'm going to say thank you very much for joining us. >> thank you so much.

a beard. >> and wearing valentino. >> you've been keeping a very close eye on the fashion of the guests. i took a complete punt and i looked at amal clooney and thought there's a great british designer called amelia winsted who designs proper dresses. >> i can see where you're going there. it is in fact stella mccartney. i only know that because i was told. >> i would have put my hat on that. >> if you say it with confidence, it means a lot. >> so was stella mccartney. absolutely remarkable. >> as i said earlier i'm a sucker for earlier but the buzz already is that's the outfit of the day, besides the wedding dress obviously. >> let's talk a little bit about the meghan effect. we hear about this but is it a real thing. we know that when, for example, they got engaged which was the first time that we all got to

really clap our eyes on them properly and official as a couple. there we are. that was the day they came out into the garden at kensington palace. she was wearing a distinctive white coat. >> that brand is renamed the meghan coat in honor of the meghan effect which is so real that it's actually quite terrifying for a lot of brands when they can't actually keep up with the demand. that was the case in point where they ended up with a six-month waiting list for that coat. meghan of course is one step ahead of us. she owns it in an assortment of colors. you can get it but i think there's a waiting list. it's about 450 pounds so a reasonable entry point for a coat if you want a bit of the markle sparkle. >> we tested this last night as well, the championing of brands with meghan is a huge thing. it's going to make a whole business. >> yes. and i really admire meghan's obvious thoughtfulness into that, she's championed a small

scottish bag brand and another one which actually funds vaccines for every bag they sell for children. it's very considered. >> the fashion business, it is big business. it's a multi-billion pound business for britain and a thing we're very good at. >> it's bigger than the car industry. >> is it? that's remarkable. when these small brands are taken up by meghan and she wears a pair of welsh jeans that nobody's ever heard of, how does the company try to deal with the reality of the sudden increased traffic on their website if they even have one? >> well, they have to navigate as it happens and in fact that denim brand that you mentioned, they're called hyatt i think. i love the story, they started in a small town in an abandoned jeans factory that used to manufacture for big brands. they sort of decided to bring this brand back to the town and i was when meghan wore those jeans, suddenly they have to

move premises. >> you're talking about jobs. >> absolutely. >> we saw another shot of amal. there's elton john but we were looking at amal in this beautiful mustard colored dress and hat designed by stella mccartney. >> that's a good reference. i was going to go canary yellow. can anybody but amal wear that color? >> that is a color for somebody who's very dark, beautiful against her dark hair. that's an interesting brand to choose not just because she knows how to rock it but she's interested in ethical fashion. look at the detail on the back. >> it's stunning. people are speculating that it's a very good match for meghan and her ethical principles. that's just absolutely gorgeous, sort of show stopping. i don't think she needs to get changed for evening. >> i think she probably will though. >> it worked. it's a good day to night transition. >> i wonder when it comes to -- stella mccartney talks about the ethical input to her brand and

couple, can you give me your impression of meghan markle when you spoke to her? >> they have an empathy coming across from her which i thought was really good. because at the end of the day it's quite a roller coaster. to have somebody so calm and really engaging. it was good to have that. at the end of the day for me it was good to have that. >> what did she talk to you about? >> she didn't say that much. she was really pleased to be there and understood about what happened around steven and just saying how sorry she was to hear about the news and really pleased to be there at the time. >> we talked a little bit about this earlier on and the royal family always has causes and it looks like meghan is bring is those causes on. there's always a big thing that the royal family can't get involved in politics but there is a point where cause and politics kind of -- the diagram overlaps a little bit there.

>> i remember when their relationship was first announced there was a lot of language in the press that i thought was very coded racist references and i don't remember but prince harry issued a statement from the palace where he calls that out and condemns it and it was completely unprecedented and i think that it is difficult for them to put themselves out there on issues like this but when it effects them personally or they feel strongly enough about it they do. it was a hugely welcome moment because people like me that write about it are often attacked themselves and to have somebody in that position be on your side makes a huge difference and i hope they'll continue to venture into spaces that have been a bit too difficult because that's what we need in the country. we need to start talking about things that we prefer to sweep under the carpet and i think meghan has a track record of doing that. harry now has entered that realm as well and that offers a lot of promise and actually if the

serious. what did you make of it? you thought firsthand, the response between them? >> it's quite place for them to go public because clearly, the games are really special to prince harry. the it's very much part of his life. i think recently. so the very fact that's what they became public was great because it was everybody could see it firsthand. this just added more sparkle, really. >> going to be on the phone when the wedding's over. >> an accident. it's happening. everything was in full splendor. >> they're having a delayed honeymoon. on their way there to the games, they might take time. >> that's a right place to do it. >> yeah.

the last person to see the dress of course will be prince harry. what a moment for meghan and what a moment for the royal family in 2018. >> can i just say -- can i just say. >> the three women in this studio all went -- we saw a boat neck and sleeve and veil. >> rather feminine very romantic neck. what i loved was that really nice chunky tiara. i couldn't tell if it was diamonds or pearls or some combination of the two. low bun swept back hair like that gossamer like veil.

>> you're asking her to call it. >> i mean, i eluded there to the history of cliveden house hotel. i'm wondering as an american when you watch all of this. you're looking at the heart of the british establishment, there's a fresh, american about to enter there. zara phillips making herself as comfortable as one can when one is heavily pregnant but when you see this fresh young american, full of education, full of thoughts and ambition. she has a million dollar smile that the cameras love. she is great and when i say performer i mean that in the best sense, she knows how to communicate a message.

>> it's interesting because she is so modern and very independent and speaks her mind. so it will be interesting to see once she is married if she will continue to be able to do that because she has so much to say and she has stood up for so many important causes including gender equality which is very important to her. she spoke about that eloquently at the un for years now and i hope that her voice can be heard and i think with harry by her side it will be. i don't know to what extent but he also wants to give folks a voice and they are humanitarians and care about people and together they're a powerful team. they call them the fab 4 for a reason. >> that puts windsor on the map. >> not all of britain looks like this.

this is a very cliche view of britain. the union jack and so forth but it puts windsor on the map. >> absolutely. we're really not familiar with it. people still thought the wedding was in london, including myself. oh i have to get on the train and go 20 something miles to get here but then when you're here it's like a fairy tale. >> we're seeing beatrice. >> you live and you learn. >> i was being told earlier that it's an up and coming designer, quite knew on the scene already and do you know what, i think they're gorgeous. >> yes. >> really, really understated and beautiful. >> there we see the royals. it's the place that she has been on many occasions before. it's another day out really isn't it? >> looking through the order of service.

>> i like her ruby red. >> how do you think she epitomizes the modern american woman? >> she never wanted to be one of the ladies that lunch. she wanted to be one of the women who work and that's very much the modern american woman. a doer. someone that stands tall and proud of herself. very independent, works hard which she has done her whole life and she has principles from the time she was 11 and saw this commercial that offended her because she found it sexist and her dad actually said then write a letter and she wrote to among other people, hillary clinton. who was then a first lady and it's a few months later that ad was gone. >> time after time you go back, she's american, she actually had to work very hard to get where she is and there's something incredibly admirable about that.

worldwide. she's walking herself up the aisle. in a week of twists and turns. yes i think as robert said, this match shows that the monarchy has moved. it has moved and modernized and people will be celebrating that today. >> we had a little glimpse inside the car. >> very demure dress. boat neck style. a big tiara. it's hard to see. a veil. doria is looking beautiful in a hat. we think that's burberry but meghan looks magnificent. >> a quick word. one of the big elements of news of today, the big news of today was of course the title for the couple. just a quick word about the title. >> duke of sussex is a royal duke that became extinct in the 1830s.

princess diana's legacy in terms of kindness and compassion. >> what did you do to deserve it? >> i was born with hiv and i think it's important that young people born with hiv are able to change the world ultimately in the perception of hiv. >> you are very concise and very eloquent. i reckon you make it sound easier than it was to do. >> definitely. it's been a process and a lot of time spent thinking about how to do it and why to do it. stuff like that. >> the couple to choose a trip to nottingham sends a huge message. >> the prince has been a strong supporter of the hiv sector for a long tile but then to use their first engagement together said something about their care about the concern and the cause but also really importantly

about they want to tackle the stigma still associated with hiv. >> which is obviously a legacy of his mom. >> absolutely. i was privileged to meet princess diana on a couple of occasions. i can see his mother in the son. they have that passion and empathy for things that they really care about. >> when he took the hiv test there was a 500% increase. that makes a massive, massive difference for getting people to test and normalize hiv testing. >> what is the involvement of such an incredible, right now the world's most high profile couple in something that's so important to you? >> i think they're choosing chiva as one of the 7 charities to contribute too is symbolic of how much they care about hiv as an issue. >> do you have a wish for the couple today? we're all sitting here waiting

feels right. there's something right about it. and there's a reason for it. the reason has to do with the source. we were made by a power of love and our lives were meant and are meant to be lived in that love. that's why we are here. ultimately the source of love is god himself. the source of all of our lives. there's an old medieval poem that says where true love is found god himself is there. the new testament says it this way, beloved, let us love one another because love is of god and those who love are born of god and know god. those who do not love, do not know god. why? for god is love.

there's power in love. there's power in love to help and heal when nothing else can. there's power in love to lift up and liberate when nothing else will. there's power in love to show us the way to live. set me as a seal on your heart. a seal on your arm. for love, it's as strong as death. but love is not only about a young couple. now, the power of love is demonstrated by the fact that we're all here. two young people fell in love and we all showed up. but it's not just for and about a young couple who we rejoice

with. it's more than that. jesus of nazareth on one occasion was asked by a lawyer to sum up the essence of the teachings of moses and he went back and reached back deuterono da individuvide davideand that is love your neighbor as yourself. then in matthew's version, he added love of god, all of the prophets everything that moses loves, everything of the holy prophet, everything of the scripture, everything that he's trying to tell the world. love got, love your neighbors. and love yourself. no, someone once said that jesus

began the most revolutionary movement in all of human history. a movement grounded in the unconditional love of god for the world. and a movement mandating people to live that love. and in so doing, to change not only their lives, but the very life of the world itself. i'm talking about power. real power, power to change the world. if you don't believe me, well, there were some old slaves in america antebellum south who explained the dynamic power of love and why it has the power to transform. they explained it this way, they

sang a spiritual, even in the midst of their captivity, there it's a bomb in gilead. a healing bomb. there is a bomb in gilead that can make the wounded whole. there is a balm in gilead to heal the soul. one said, they said, if you cannot preach like peter and you cannot pray like paul, you just tell the love of jesus how he died to safe us all. oh, that's the balm in gilead, this way of love it is the way of life. they got it. he died to save us all. he didn't die for anything he could get out of it. jesus did not get an honorary doctorate to die. he wasn't getting anything out of it. he gauge up his life. he sacrificed his life for the good of others. for the good of the other, for

well-being of the world, for us. that's what love is. love is not selfish and self-centered. love can be sacrificial. and in so doing becomes redemptive. it's that way of unselfish sacrificial redemptive love changes lives, and it can change this world. if you don't believe me, just stop and think for and imagine. think and imagine, well, think and imagine, a world where love is away imagine our homes and families where love is away. imagine neighborhoods and communities where love is the way. and imagine government and

nations where love is the way. imagine business and commerce where love is the way. imagine this tired old world where love is the way, when love is the way, unselfish, sacrificial, redemptive, when love is the way. in this world ever again, when love is the way, we will make this like a mighty stream and religious. and love is the way poverty will become history. when love is the way, the earth will be a sanctuary. and when love is the way, we will lay down our swords and shields, down by the riverside to study more and more. when love is the way, there's

plen plenty, plenty for all of god's children. and when love is the way, we actually treat each other, well, like we're actually family. when love is the way, we know that god is the source of an awe and we are brothers and sisters, children of god. my brothers and sisters, a new heaven, a new earth, a new world. a new human family. and let me tell you something, old solomon was right in the old

testament. that's fire. with that, i'll sit down, we got to get y'all married. arguably one of the great mind, great spirits of the 20th century. jesuit, roman catholic priest, scientist, scholar, mystic. and some of those from his writings from theological background. some of his writings the harnessing of fire was one of the great technological discoveries in all of human history. fire that made human civilization possible. fire made it possible to put food and to provide sanitary ways of eating which reduced the

time. fire made it possible that heat-warm environment and therefore made human migration around the world a possibility, even in the environment. fire made it possible there was no iron age about fire. no industrial revolution of fire. the advances of science and technology are bringing independence on the human ability and capacity to take fire and use it for human good. anybody get here in a car today? an automobile? nod your heads if you did. i'm guessing. i know there were some carriages. but those that came in cars, fires are controlled, harnessed, made that possible. i know jesus walked on the water. but i have to tell you i didn't walk across the atlantic ocean to get here. controlled fire in that plane got me here.

fire makes it possible for us to text and tweet and e-mail and instagram and facebook and socially be dysfunctional with each other. fire made all of that possible. and based on shadan, fire was one of the greatest discoveries of human history. and humanity ever harnesses fire again, if humanity ever captures the energy of love, it will be the second time in history that we have discovered fire. dr. king was right, we must discover love. the redemptive power of love. and when we do that, we will make of this old world a new world.

service. lovely sight of the page boys and bridesmaids who did their work perfectly. ♪ hints of the sunshine to come and the great sight of the west door of st. george's chapel windsor. members of the household cavalry lining the steps, ready to esco the couple to the front. the bride is radiant. there is the kiss that everyone was hoping for and waiting for.

it's completely confident of her style, it's true romance out of it. >> and we are seeing members of the royal party there, but the bridesmaids, there's little princess charlotte. also, take a look at charlotte, what a day this is the duchess of cambridge, just a few weeks since the duchess of cambridge just gave birth. and doria ragland, who during the service seemed to be having a few quiet thoughts to herself inside the choir. and the prince of wales having a few words with her there. it could not be a more beautiful day here. >> the carriage is ready.

harry makes his way in and helps his new wife into this ascot landau that they've chosen for the procession. a lovely carriage, perfect for today. giving everyone a look at the young couple, as they make their ways through the streets of windsor, and back to the castle on the long walk. it's going to be a lovely procession. you're still with me, we've been enjoying the service, now, we're going to enjoy the scenes as well. at this point, they look remarkably happy in the likes that they've given what they've been through, one of life's great milestones. welcoming out here. the winds are great. ty go up towards the gre round tower of windsor castle, part of st. george's chapel there. and waiting for the 2,000 or more people who were specially invited and included in this lovely event today and of course watched keenly by smiling members of the royal family including the queen. and here today just a month after some surgery on his hip, so people glad to see he was a bell to make it. but look at the smiles. really, it's a relief. >> yes, the relief here, the

royal family, in the role of standing by the side of the road waving rather than being in the procession. >> absolutely, just such amazingly lovely scene. and this of coursese started th wonderful pageantry moment we're going to see. the first time that members of the public outside the castle walls -- there's definitely more than 100,000 estimated who had come out to see them, get a chance to see the new duke and duchess of sussex for the first time. what a lovely site that will be. the rules we shall hear will be quite amazing. >> they'll just go into the eastern end of the castle where they'll disappear for a few moments. and then i expect the queen to be -- the queen to be receiving.

more people leaving the chapel itself including the mother of the bride. that's been for her a pretty intense and emotional moment. >> extraordinary. she looked remarkably composed the wholesi way through. really emotional. she understandably saw her daughter arrive. >> very soon the national anthem will be played to signal the queen's departure.

>> the queen making her way back to the eastern end of windsor castle. that's where her majesty's private apartments are. that's where she spends so much of her time. that's where of course we get the sense of the fact she loves windsor more than anyone else. who can disagree with that, given the fact it is a place that has 1,000 years of royal history attached to it. but here we are. wonderful carriage procession under waug the young couple preparingo grt the crowds on the streets of windsor.

we're just seeing the largest, the biggest one has come out today, really is magnificent. >> sufl wonderful scenes. these are of course the horses from the royal mews who are pulling the carriage. it will be so lovely to see the interaction between meghan and harry there. they'll be seeing the crowds for the first time that have gathered to see them. >> the windsor grey horses selected for today, the ones who will be on their best behavior, who will look magnificent. everything has been prepared in great detail for this procession. every inch of this procession hase been planned. you're going to see some things, you know, not just the color, not just the t style, not just e pageantry but it's going to be

an impressive show for the world to see. it is a symbol, if you like, of military precision, but also the kind of ceremonial flare that the british bring to these things. >> they do. we see occasions, sometimes when the queen welcomes world leaders here for state visits. it's a comfortable show. of the procession. it will be the longest through the streets of windsor. what will be lovely for them to see is the groom in his household cavalry, his royal uniform. i think that will make them feel

especially proud. >> a wonderful moment. >> it really is quite a sight indeed the. there's a wonderful fusion here of significance versus pageantry matched with the rather charming small-scale streets of windsor, which are just sparkling today with the union banners. you may see at some point in the procession, there's 1,000 meters that have been made by the tiny busy hands of the schoolchildren of windsor and many other kids. a lovely uniting of some rather

hand-made lovely moments and some very proper british moments. estimates today that around aboutt 120,000 people would amas in and around windsor. i have to say, i think it is going to be in the final count many, many more thousands then that. windsor greys doing their job well, not being put off by the cheers and the waving of the flags. and there we get a glimpse, a glimpse of the bride and the >> stay tuned for more of the royal wedding. ♪ ♪ ♪

but it's worth underlining how much thought has gone into this procession as well. >> absolutely, it's wonderful to see. there's actually here another really lovely pearl link between the commanding officer and harry. his sister was actually a bridesmaid at charles and diana's wedding and his father trained the prince of wales as a young jockey. wonderful personal link there. fantastic to see the regiment doing their thing, doing what they do best. the pomp and pabgeantry makes i very proud, doesn't it? >> kingsley of course was riding the same horse this time last week. so i think quite possibly -- interesting theracks on the left there, they look quite modern. i think of course now that's

where the regiment will -- they rotate to change the guard at windsor palace. the procession coming down. everyone's working very hard on their gardens. a little stars and stripes as well, which is a very nice touch. a lot of canadian maple leafs as well. canadian very certainly keen to claim the bride as well. >> the commonwealth is a very big theme not only in the bride's wedding dress and her veil. she had every single flower of the commonwealth, all 53 embroidered on her veil, which is a lovely touch. >> it's probably why the veil was so long, they had to incorporate every nation of the commonwealth. it is a very nice touch. it's a reminder of the queen's

corenation gown. then it only had eight nations, today it has 53. some 250 members of the armed forces serving today in various ceremonial roles. lots of them with links to prince harry. the irish guard, very prominent today, because the 1st battalion irish guard had been on duty. indeed, we have the wonderful musicians of the irish guard band as well performing for us here at windsor castle. they've been hard at work all day as well. so lots of individual members, different groups of regiments involved, all of them selected for their links. people have made a huge effort, a huge effort, to decorate their homes. lots of them, indeed, we were just here two or three days ago, and people were preparing at that point when, you know, frankly the town was not so

busy, but they were determined to have a great day. time and again people were talking about the weather. and, you know, there's always a bit of a gamble in may in the united kingdom. this has been a gamble that's paid off very handsomely. now what we see is just some of these streets. they will of course get to the most particular part of all, which is the long walk to windsor grey parkp with hae saw the car earlier breeding through. this will be a different experience. with the cavalry in attendance providing the escort, it's going to be one of the most memorable images of the day without any question. >> absolutely spectacular sight. i think you mentioned there have been a few glitches. i think a couple will be extremely relieved of the weather. ndsor could not ok more stunning. this is exactly the picture of windsor, of great britain, that we want to be seeing at the moment. >> the queen's guard did say you

could not have picked a better time in may. the whole castle absolutely, when the weather's like this, it is going to be the most fabulous global picture. as we can see, people are on one side of the road. they're going to charge all the way across the other into the park so they get a second look at the couple coming back the other way. these crowds, we were expecting big crowds, but i think they really have exceeded all expectations. there's absolutely no room on the pavements for any more people. the police of course working hard as well in windsor. let's give them the credit they're due. i would like at this point just to acknowledge those members of the armed forces who are there, because it's pretty arduous on a day like today when the temperatures are so high. the royal navy. the common door in chief of small ships and diving, appointed by the queen a couple of years ago. harry was appointed captain

general of the marines in december of last year. taking on from the duke of edinburgh who held the title for 64 years, so that's very much a rich family heritage. and we saw them, by the way, on the steps of the chapel earlier, opening the doors for some of the star as arriving. prince harry was appointed. in october of 2008, a decade ago by the queen. just to underline, they're all here for a reason. yes, it's not by accident. they're all here because they have a personal bond with prince harry. >> prince harry was often talked so movingly about how his time serving in the armed forces shaped him. for that reason, there's so many

about the kind of lives that they plan to leave. the kind of things they intend to do. what can we say with confidence already about what they want to achieve and the kind of places they want to go to? >> as we made very clear in their interview, they do see their future very strongly within the commonwealth. prince harry's going to be a commonwealth youth ambassador. just as they turn for the beginning of what really is the centerpiece of this procession. i think the commonwealth, we've seen touches of it through the service. it's just going to be an extremely important part of their lives. we don't know where the honeymoon is. an awful lot on the fact -- that is definitely part of their future. >> we know as well they are literally going to hit the ground running. and while they -- as soon as they're back from their honeymoon, they're going to be doing quite a lot of travel. we think that's possibly a trip

to dublin being considered, maybe the netherlands. and then of course in the autumn, they will embark on a big commonwealth tour to australia. possibly also to new zealand. i think reinvigorating the commonwealth, as you said. >> traveling escorts leading the carriage right along. the long walk which is in the heart of windsor grey park. this really is the highlight of this procession. >> all 2.65 miles of it. is spectacular, isn't it, that area, look at that. >> and what i can only describe as the natural grace of the couple. she fits in this open ascot landau with the windsor greys.

there she is, waving entirely. which is dwigquite something, because this today is quite a crowd. >> at the end of this, they'll go through cambridge gate we saw earlier on. the duchess will be the second person -- the carriage will go through and lead to the castle. they'll then go to the reception. >> now, the photographs are interesting. we know that alexei, he usually takes front covers, he's usually taking snapshots of people like gwyneth paltrow. movie stars. today,e wil be taking six official photographs. including the astonishingly well behaved flower girls and page boys.

the crowd made up of so many people who have come out on about -- we reckon it's about 21 degrees with a light breeze. when harry g-- the last wedding it was -- >> the reception at st. george's hall in windsor castle. the couple, the guests and the congregation. the head chef for the royal household is mark flanagan. their main focus will be for the most part food. >> and then there's the cake. there's been a lot of talk about the cake. the cake is elderflower and is it lemon? >> lemon. >> i think that's what it is. we saw a beautiful -- and great big lemons on the instagram account of the baker making the cake. is it just me or are the tears

getting -- quite a moment. meghan markle of course is somebody who is used to being composed. part of the job as an actress, to perform. here, this is a very different role. this is a woman who seems very natural, very connected, not acting her way through a huge event. for every moment of the service, she sits by her husband. she is beaming with a smile and taking in what is surely the view of a lifetime. >> a moment as well, just the talk about her entrance into the chapel. where she was on her own. that was quite something, wasn't it? >> that was remarkable. i think it takes a great deal of self-possession and composure. at a moment when maybe more than

ever you want an arm to lean on. and in the days that have led up to this magnificent scene, she's not had -- the fact that her father was unable to come due to health meant that she had to make the decision how was she going to enter the chapel. how was she going to meet the man who was about to become her husband. and she chose to do it on her own. with the 7-year-old twins holding her train. they did a good job of that. the composure it took is quite something. she did it. >> she did. >> as the world watches windsor today, we reckon a worldwide audience of 1.9 billion, maybe nudging 2 billion. i think britain's showing its best face. the sun is out. not a cloud in the sky. and these people of course on the long walk, some of whom have been there since thursday. many of whom have come today.

into the train station. this is the sight they've been waiting to see. the crowd comes to an end at the long walk. and then it is the private gardens. that the royal couple will move into. the cheers will be distant sounds, then a few moments perhaps to enjoy each other's company. been it's time to feed the 600 guests. so witnessing a service like no other royal wedding. >> as the royal couple makes its

way through the gates. we see the long walk. >> and well she might be. >> absolutely. >> this might be quite a moment. >> i mean who knows what they're thinking. the private moment between them. they might take a moment to congratulate each other.

so -- with a wbit of modernization in between. and then of course the private reception this evening, which does involve a reduced number of people, and there's been some commentary. >> 200 people. we're going to have some speeches from the queen, the prince of wales. tonight is where the party really starts. it's very underwraps. you can read all about it in the sunday times tomorrow for the scoop. >> very colorful parade going on. the marines going through. what i'd like to do is ask for their highlight of the day. to be fair, you know, we've got a choice in terms of just not the arrival of the bride and the emergence of the dress but actually there were several special moments. first you, robert. >> the highlight has got to be the music. the music and the chapel.

and to be the person she is and conduct herself in the way she's always conducted herself, to do it under the spotlight is quite something. >> absolutely. for all the things that happened over the past week, meghan markle has said in the past her dad was such an important part of her life growing up, and so i'm sorry and really saddened that he couldn't be here for this moment. >> there was a beautiful tender moment though when meghan was walked down by the prince of wales and prince harry just mouthed very quietly, thank you, an intimate moment. let's go over now to anita. >> gorgeous, you both look sensational. how was that experience? >> yes, extremely. one of best ever. we went out to go to the loo. we came looking and there wasn't a seat in the house. so they put me on one side, classic me, so then my mate, two seats over there, and -- like,

this is, yes, so we were half paced -- >> and finally -- >> yes, because it was like, how am i here? and then it was like, pot, ket i kettle, black. >> what were the highlights? >> the seat was amaezing. it was -- i mean, the choir was incredible. it was seamless. it was amazing. the people, everyone was so friendly. so relaxed. laughing, joking. it was wa. it was just a room full of happiness. it was incredible. mean, the wh wedding was just -- it was magical, absolutely magical. >> i think that happiness is seeping out of the walls of the chapel, seeping out of everyone's televisions as well. >> we've been talking about the magnificent music of the service today. now, when the bride was walking

down the aisle -- we do know each other pretty well, we're all friends. it was fantastic. how was it for you? >> it was exciting. as soon as i got the call in the middle of the march, i thought what a perfect thing. i had sung at one other wedding as the bride posse processed. this has been such a beautiful day. >> lovely atmosphere. >> yes. >> which you helped perfect. >> thank you. >> i'm just wondering, what is the challenge of performing on this kind of stage? you're no stranger to performing. but on this kind of stage, does it make a difference? >> yes, the dress, how fast she was going to walk. because of course it's her moment. and you don't want to be too fast. you don't want to arrive with three minutes there. you don't want to miss getting there. there's been so much planning. the rehearsal was like tightly woven embroidery.

most important thing was it felt like a family and friend's wedding. and even standing up, those moments, nothing but smiles. so relaxed. he said good luck. i said more good luck to you. and everyone just seemed very happy to be there. it seemed like a true celebration all day long. >> you can tell us now who you were most thrilled to meet today. >> i met george clooney. >> that's very honest of you. thank you. let's go to ory. >> whatever age you are, wherever you come from, you really, really felt it. we've got some students from st. george's school who watched it just behind me on the grass here. you've come all the way from london derry. i know for you, standing here, listening to the ceremony, absolutely worth the wait. >> yes, it was worth the travel, worth the pressure of getting here, so yes, it was amazing.
