11:03 am
but he was then asked to leave the shop immediately by the people who were inside he said those two people holding the chap down. so what happened was the police were called they arrived. they quickly realized that it was a slight problem and they needed to resuscitate the gentleman. they call paramedics and after three of them had come and been helping to resuscitate the individual. for about twenty minutes he was pronounced dead at the scene it has now been referred to the independent police complaints commission. apparently the man in his fifty's with no name at the moment. although i am hearing that possibly did live locally. john thank you john henderson in plymouth. a police officer had been shot dead in county live in the republic of ireland. detective garda adrian donahoe was ambushed by armed robbers. i tied a credit union near dundalk. the police are hunting for men who fled the scene and a great. vote so i can pass out. alan shatter who's the irish minister for justice equality and defense says no effort will be spared.

11:06 am
a lot of the defendants are being held. also aside from there said been demonstrations against the president. to mark the anniversary two years ago have been there. yes that's right. and really reminiscent. of exactly two years ago when those those protests started against the president mubarak in fact. i was in tucker is queer for a lot of yesterday and some of the same slogans the same chance were being used. except this time being applied to president morsi the current president who of course was elected but people are really very frustrated. from all parts of egyptian society they're very frustrated with the slow pace of change. once the revolution happened people wanted things to change very quickly and it hasn't been like that they were promised that there would be social justice that wealth would be distributed. more evenly they haven't seen those things happen and so that frustration has built. but really what the last twenty four hours has shown is the split in a gyptian society you have the president.
11:07 am
his party the muslim brotherhood and islamists on one side and you have the opposition. quite crudely. you know the liberals on the other side and it was the liberals that took to the streets. the other side the islamists they were at home saying well we elected our guy. so let him get on with the job and we can have elections. sometime in the future. but really there is no clear vision as to how to bring the sides of egypt together. so there's still a great deal of instability. and you know. people are saying that instability continuing for some time to come. now is only make bold talking to me earlier. britain's providing twenty one million pines a new humanitarian assistance for those caught up in the crisis in syria. the aid was announced as the international development secretary justing greening visited jordan. refugees from syria and iraq thing in unprecedented numbers. michael great support. the united nations says the flow of syrian refugees into here goes the tare refugee camp in jordan has become

11:10 am
me you to take a family size car it could be costing two pounds extra to fill that tank for the big question is why. and so the retailers a saying that it's down to the wholesale price of petrol that's gone up five ten. alisa since christmas what they can do is explain why the wholesale prices gone up in january is the type of year where there is a huge demand for steel certainly not the biggest amount in the year many calls off the road to sickly. given the january weather that we've been having. also we're told that the refineries have as a last a field there certainly no shortage. for the retailers a saying is that it could be down to traders who is speculating in the wholesale price. one thing's for certain for customers the i am saying it's not good news and they complaining they say that over the years when the has been an increase in the wholesale price of fuel. that's not. that's felt at the pub.
11:11 am
very very quickly however if the wholesale price drops and that is not always passed on quite so quickly although the retailers are denying that. now next week we're going to see the results or is it over a view by the office of fair trading. in today's out don't make very interesting reading and both parties are going to be watching that very very closely. chan oyster well most filling up with fuel this morning. gave their reaction. simple question is this the magnet so much corporate billions of pounds were brought for where the reason to to agree that. i clearly think is scandalous. the government should intervene situation like this. this is almost within the triple situation where we've now. in a recession. the third time around and here we are. but we're going up there for hope though i believe is another. i think is discussion. it's a constant problem part of going up generally but in particular vehicle prices in terms of petrol
11:12 am
and also have other expenses. further what one of those matters for years of the snow. price control that. if you come here one day one said i'm becoming eliminates these one for a while. there's no you know there's no. no one tells you anything. we just go up the places where they want to probably not very happy motorists they're just coming up to a quarter past eleven. these are the headlines. focused it's a milder temperatures and rain may lead to flooding after heavy snow caused trouble destruction across parts of the u.k. last night. m six there wigan had to be closed when lorries and cars became stuck in the snow. a mass gunman's died after being restrained by customers joining an attempted robbery at a bookmakers in plymouth. and in egypt there are reports that hand people have died in clashes and forth by the violence started after a court sentenced twenty one people staff over rising. a football game the killed more than seventy people. last year. so let's get all the latest sports of the baby so sports and here's my comic.
11:13 am
yes hi again good morning after the championship side millwall became the first team through to the first round of the f.a. cup when they be asked to military want. up to twelve more teams could join them in the last sixteen today. here's a pic of the day's games and which start with stuff. versus manchester city. in a repeat of the twenty eleven final. bolton in brighton of the championship both have the chance to knock out premier league things as they did in the last round. and there are two non-league teams left in the competition still not has failed he knocked out cardiff in the last round face wigan and was this congress. luton visit knowledge. we're in a position where. when the last page of the f.a. cups amazing for club of our size and comic i once that surveyed. you know anything can happen when you see him get sixty one percent of the ball against man united. you realize what you against and i didn't see a weakness last week at all one. you know i thought they were playing with freedom and i think the relaxing now.
11:14 am
we know that we're going to be on the doctrine of the you know there's no doubt on that but you know they're going to replay previous say in. you know that we've always done well against our opposition you know i look to the the league cup games was a big in the season so you know when it will be tough but you know i come for talks are it's a lot of eleven. we are looking for consistency. because we know back to back will be the key fast to be successful for and to be into the season and. it's a possibility for of course the trophy the f.a. cup and. we do not want to neglect that this club is geared up to get back into the football league that there's no doubt about that so four thousand will be an incredible turnout for us and. i'm sure they'll make some noise because last time out here seem like there's twenty five thousand not ten just said so
11:15 am
that's my feet up s.l. get up there and wonderful be here with a local next week away. and as fantastic well you know. give the club. really good book on the ridge. give the fines a bit of coverage in just a great very brutal room have to explain to pay them that which you include different. evils of living of luck. was very very important you know tristen upolu cation which was good but you not get overwhelmed. evo rosslare there the blame for the manager in the round up of the matches that we're looking at over the weekend. it's a leak up semifinal weekend in scotland while with sent there and facing celtic tomorrow that's what today in the last case is all the favorites against hearts in league with visions its second this is ninety c. but at least hearts will have to travel very far today because the match is in a breath. just across the road at easter road the home of the rivals for hearts. is turning into one of the most bizarre.
11:16 am
grand slam finals in the tennis is victoria as a ranking now holds the slight advantage in the stream of a final against lean are the match continues its live on t.v. said to abuse the h.d. these are indeed live pictures of point being one there. the latest is well enough are won the first set six four but then the defending champion as a ranker came back to take the second you can see that as well and is now dominating the having regular breaks of serve. also a break for a fall explain on a straight into a that's why. and to medical breaks as well for now are one for an ankle another. as well for a nasty looking head injury after she suffered a bit of a fall that over and i was going to head. and maybe it has affected the chinese players for because it's now five three to as a renter. soli now will now be serving to stay in the match but it's it's really turned around this one. and you have to think that that injury especially to the when she had a full on banged ahead has really affected the chinese player which has a lot of who has a lot of support has to be said with the melbourne crowd. now britain's guyon thomas has lost the overall lead in the top down under in australia.
11:17 am
he's now fifth overall twenty nine seconds of the pace with one day to go. meanwhile there's a new women's professional road cycling team it's called wiggle honda and has great britain's double olympic champion laura trott in it. it's actually been backed by somebody wiggins is foundation. after next month's world track championships then. trot will race on the road with her new to you but she will still be defending her gold medals. the next olympics at rio in twenty sixteen the start that we have now is it is really exciting in fact that we can just. if we needed her huge we can get parachutes like it really is there is it which i think that when insight is really important. and it is a massive step that we take in a really exciting. laura trott there just a reminder. in the tennis certainly not as serving to stay in the match. it's one said all but five three to the defending champion victoria. as an anchor in that third in the siding set. and already in this game. the lives lost the first point. so three points away then for us a renter. from the title..
11:18 am
that's often l.c.c. and you're living is on that cliffhanger mike thank you. now business leaders are joined the mayor of london in criticizing george osborne's approach on austerity. he said the u.k. should press ahead with major infrastructure projects to revive the economy. according to official statistics the economy dropped by not point three percent in the last three months of twenty twelve. and i political correspondent has an m and dancers been following this story for us so. political pressure and i. pressure from the business community as well indeed and that poses a problem for george osborne because he wants to be. the chancellor who business has confidence in. and so if there's no leaders on our thinking well actually maybe plan a isn't working maybe austerity isn't working and they need to be some other kind of direction no where does that leave him alone. we've had goldman sachs the chairman of goldman sachs talking about it over the past twenty four hours or so basically saying that he thinks that perhaps there is the bigger the government has gone in the wrong direction
11:19 am
on austerity because of course there's. figure show that growth isn't happening in the way they were hoping they're worse than had been expected and certainly if we look to over the next three months say the first three months of this years we have similar figures then we would end up in the triple dip recession so where would that leave that austerity policy. the chancellor is not likely to budge there was no because the problem that he has is that his whole his whole economic policy it's been based on this idea of of thirty this idea that we can't we get the debt back on track and what have you. and then it we get greater the results are in his whole policy and he's he stuck to that for out. and so for him to to turn around now and go for a plan b. that would be the ultimate u. turn and certainly labor would seize upon that because labor been saying for some time. they think that the government's becoming too fast and too. in too much and should be looking at more spending and certainly there's been a lot of comments only over the last day with the g.d.p.
11:20 am
figures about the need for more investment in infrastructure certainly boris johnson was talking about that yesterday suggesting that he doesn't agree with the government on their austerity policies are a lot a lot to think about the draw for draw on. i just talking about gore and johnson has he changed his mind but yeah well. it was quite interesting because yesterday. he seemed to be seemed to be a direct attack on on george osborne's economic policy. he was talking about how you know is talk too much talk of authority anything will talk about here about investment and about the kind of positive ideas and certainly. since then he's kind of tone that down some orphanage back to the opinion that cuts are the right thing to do at this stage so he's kind of backtracked somewhat. but certainly there's increasing pressure on george osborne. and if the economy doesn't improve. he's got the budget coming up in a couple of months time. he's got to look at ways of boosting growth and the problem is that he's already cut two very large extent.
11:21 am
in order to find the money for investment he have to make more cuts so be interesting to see what actually happens. ok. susanna thank you. now it's got more in the heavy snow across parts of scotland northern england and the midlands just sanders is in the village of nineteen and west yorkshire. forested i said paint the picture for a stair. well i'm in a hamlet called mountain which is appropriate and i were high in the hills above ground said you can see the outskirts of brantford behind me and. they've had a fairly heavy snowfall here you can see this is quite deep because it's been cleared from where we're standing but probably about six or eight days is still lying here. and last night the snow came down so quickly across the band of the whole the north of england about one fourth of snow in the space of two hours that's really what caused the problems rather than the volume in itself. so on the m six in the west of the parents of course. particular problems that the motorway closed in both directions last night at about half past eight.
11:22 am
as lorries came to a halt in the deep snow and cars started to skate around and people were basically stranded in the middle of the carriage way with mountain rescue volunteers walking up and down a four mile stretch bringing assistance to them if they needed it. on the other side of the ten as we hear from the highways agency that is many as one hundred forty incidents were attended to in north yorkshire. alone. in one case a woman. stranded in her vehicle with snow piled high on both sides of it had to be rescued by fire crews because she had heart surgery only last week and they managed to reach and trace her using the signal on her phone but the problem now the temperatures are starting to rise we're getting a little bit of rain. there are a great thick ice that was around that are starting to melt and. the problem now is going to be floods the environment agency a warning that there could be floods in areas across england and wales with particular areas of concern in the north east of england. and the midlands.
11:23 am
sir thanks same action to eat my captors on tenterhooks certainly. at the ten or so let me just tell you that story as a rancor has been leaner to win the australian open tennis. final successfully defending her title that coming. virus plenty more. in a sportsperson for you. now the snowy weather might be causing chaos across much of the u.k. but there's actually one place that is being welcomed. and that's in the scottish highlands. over a thousand sled dogs are gathering in the cairngorms for the thirtieth anniversary of the siberian husky club. dog race. it's only the second time that real sleds have been used. you know what i'm ready for the great and small have arrived in the snow clad can go and to take part in the annual husky rees including those canines with delusions of grandeur whose participation is restricted to the practice run at the pilot training for the real thing is serious and regionally proxy reus business.
11:24 am
when it first started in one thousand nine hundred four the race through forest trails only attracted a dozen teams. but there are two years on over a thousand things are right back to to run this weekend. in one of the biggest gatherings of its kind in the world. the trails walk out through pristine. we have over children trees also gather so it's going to be a bit chaotic. and i don't normally eat ham criminal law here. you can drive or known as a matter of evil to make the most of the only solution is to slow at the best it can pay and i can say when you put him on an island to sell gay down there. read up. the invasion more bring a boost to the local economy. thousands of spectators are expected and like me. may be encouraged to have a go. well hopefully on this rage of just being told that truscott don't understand the commands for jobs. so that's what i find the break. you didn't really think it was going to did you.
11:25 am
jack your grind with her body double and all not ask you in a can. and it is the real thing. phil's got the weather. good morning good morning. yes. pretty decent sort of pharaoh. i've already had one person comment to me. it was very nice to see a little bit of sunshine you haven't seen an awful lot of it of late. and for many some point that these two are going to see some decent. sunny spells not really doing much for the temperatures just at the moment it's just very nice to have that sunshine. there's the feature this broader problems overnight. lurking behind me is another wet night for many parts of the british isles we really very much are in a window of opportunity here so grab it was do can you will notice that it doesn't last that long i'm afraid especially so over the western side of the british isles later on this afternoon. it will be the case that you have lost the sunshine
11:26 am
and the cloud will be sufficiently thick across the southwestern corner of scotland back through northern ireland. for there to be a fair bit of rain just moving in and you also notice the breeze beginning to pick up to. not such a problem it was the eastern side of scott on the eastern side of the penalize. what i'm saying is that it's nice fine dry sunny weather. you will still have a problem obviously the snow hasn't just disappeared like that. so what's underneath your feet was and is the thing wheels could still be causing problems. but the weather overall. fine and dry for the most part. pretty good news. given that it's a big weekend. of football this much is that we picked here. shouldn't have too many problems at all five live as you would expect are all over it and then the car that was looking behind me really does come into play there will be a very wet and windy night for all parts of the british isles. at some point. we could well be looking at anything up to sixty millimeters of rain falling. and the problem is that there's mile there begins to come in from the atlantic. we will see a thaw it's been much. advertised will come to the second. if. you need something to leave your spirit we still have an interest.
11:27 am
shakara in the final of the australian open b.b.c. one the h.d. channel rodeo five are all over it. if you're stuck with more theory much as here. i'm afraid it'll be a wet and windy start to the day and then things here improve. some pretty sharp showers rock laying in across central and western parts want to breaking through to the east. hints of wintry no surprise it but i think you thing you really will notice is not so much that is that the temperatures are set to rise. last and it's a right to call the sun problem because that's the first signs of a change to much smaller weather for the british isles. but it will be wet. it will be windy. of course we've got all this lying snow as well so as you've probably heard. there are concerns about flooding. the obama agency and the b.b.c. well the website. well of course could be right up to date. my friends. the speed interaction between matter and energy described by the most the physics and chemistry and the origins of the chemistry can be traced back to school billion years. most when the sleeve of the code.
