for securing access to the single market, mr davis told mps the ”major criterion" was getting the best access for goods and services to the european market, i'm joined from our westminster studio by the conservative mep daniel hannan. thatch thatch forjoining us, thatch forjoining us, what thatch forjoining us, what is thatch forjoining us, what is your thatch forjoining us, what is your view about view about david davis considering paying to view about david davis considering paying to get access to paying to get access to the single market? paying to get access to the single market? you paying to get access to the single market? you don't paying to get access to the single market? you don't pay access market? you don't pay access for the single market. market? you don't pay access for the single market. almost every country single market. almost every country in the single market. almost every country in the world has single market. almost every country in the world has access in the world has access to the single market. in the world has access to the single market. the question is single market. the question is whether you pay for whether you pay for something more than that, whether you pay for something more than that, for whether you pay for something more than that, fora continuing than that, fora continuing presence in some than that, fora continuing presence in some of the eu than that, fora continuing presence in some of the eu bodies and in some of the eu bodies and the institutions that corp in some of the eu bodies and the institutions that corp not institutions that corp not only market market issues but educational research market issues but educational research programmes”, research programmes”, and i think we accept research programmes”, and i think we accept to remain research programmes”, and i think we accept to remain part we accept to remain part of a continuing projects continuing projects we should pay our share continuing projects we should pay our share of that, continuing projects we should pay our share of that, what we should
6:46 pm
our share of that, what we should not be doing is our share of that, what we should not be doing is giving money to not be doing is giving money to other countries as not be doing is giving money to other countries as they not be doing is giving money to other countries as they have a lower other countries as they have a lower gdp than other countries as they have a lower gdp than ours there gdp than ours there are more needed places outside gdp than ours there are more needed places outside of europe if gdp than ours there are more needed places outside of europe if we places outside of europe if we have a foreign aid places outside of europe if we have a foreign aid budget, it places outside of europe if we have a foreign aid budget, it should go a foreign aid budget, it should go to a foreign aid budget, it should go to deserving to deserving cases like africa, asia, rather to deserving cases like africa, asia, rather than in europe. to deserving cases like africa, asia, rather than in europe. we to deserving cases like africa, asia, rather than in europe. we have asia, rather than in europe. we have said we want asia, rather than in europe. we have said we want to leave said we want to leave the european union, why said we want to leave the european union, why would they allow union, why would they allow us to cherry-pick? union, why would they allow us to cherry-pick? it is cherry-pick? it is interesting the way cherry-pick? it is interesting the way you put that question‘ cherry-pick? it is interesting the way you put that question‘ it way you put that question‘ it implies that somehow implies that somehow countries trade out implies that somehow countries trade out of favour, implies that somehow countries trade out of favour, but trade is out of favour, but trade is in everyone's interest. the out of favour, but trade is in everyone's interest. the day we everyone's interest. the day we leave the european union, everyone's interest. the day we leave the european union, we will be leave the european union, we will be its largest market leave the european union, we will be its largest market adam smith its largest market adam smith said more than 200 years its largest market adam smith said more than 200 years ago, it its largest market adam smith said more than 200 years ago, it is its largest market adam smith said more than 200 years ago, it is not more than 200 years ago, it is not from the benevolence more than 200 years ago, it is not from the benevolence of the from the benevolence of the butcher, brewer from the benevolence of the butcher, brewer or the baker but from the benevolence of the butcher, brewer or the baker but from brewer or the baker but from the regard of self-interest. regard of self-interest. the interest regard of self-interest. the interest is the regard of self-interest. the interest is the same as the regard of self-interest. the interest is the same as the eu's, regard of self-interest. the interest is the same as the eu's, we interest is the same as the eu's, we want prosperous interest is the same as the eu's, we want prosperous neighbours and they want prosperous neighbours and they want the same thing, want prosperous neighbours and they want the same thing, how

want the same thing, how short-changed want the same thing, how short-changed would voters feel if short-changed would voters feel if we are inside short-changed would voters feel if we are inside the single market we are inside the single market in a sense, we are inside the single market in a sense, if we pay a sense, if we pay a joining fee or however sense, if we pay a joining fee or however it is worked however it is worked out, if what they however it is worked out, if what they thought that they were they thought that they were voting for was no they thought that they were voting for was no more of that and they thought that they were voting for was no more of that and no more for was no more of that and no more of the migration that went for was no more of that and no more of the migration that went with it? of the migration that went with it? | of the migration that went with it? i think | of the migration that went with it? i think i probably did i think i probably did more rallies and i think i probably did more rallies and debates than any i think i probably did more rallies and debates than any other human and debates than any other human being during the and debates than any other human being during the referendum, being during the referendum, i did 102 being during the referendum, i did 102 debates, as well as 102 debates, as well as lots of rallies around 102 debates, as well as lots of rallies around the country‘ 102 debates, as well as lots of rallies around the country‘ i did rallies around the country‘ i did not come rallies around the country‘ i did not come across rallies around the country‘ i did not come across a desire to walk not come across a desire to walk away from the european away from the european common market away from the european common market‘ there was away from the european common market‘ there was a lot away from the european common market‘ there was a lot of market‘ there was a lot of concern about sovereignty, border about sovereignty, border control but really about sovereignty, border control but really no constituencies but really no constituencies out there saying we there saying we should not be trading there saying we should not be trading with countries trading with countries which are allies trading with countries which are allies and trading with countries which are allies and friends of ours, allies and friends of ours, as well as suppliers and allies and friends of ours, as well as suppliers and customers. as suppliers and customers. so the objective is as suppliers and customers. so the objective is to have a relationship objective is to have a relationship with the eu objective is to have a relationship with the eu that objective is to have a relationship with the eu that is a objective is to have a relationship with the eu that is a common objective is to have a relationship with the eu that is a common market, with the eu that is a common market, not a common with the eu that is a common market, not a common government, based not a common government, based on alliance rather than alliance rather than abception. i'm sure we alliance rather than abception. i'm sure we can do
