the west ham united manager slaven bilic has been charged with improper conduct by the football association following his side's 2—2 draw with west brom. bilic was sent off after protesting to match officials and throwing a television microphone to the ground, after west brom's last—minute equaliser. his assistant manager nikola jurcevic has also been charged for alleged misconduct following an incident in the first half of the same game. both men have until 6pm on thursday to respond to the charge. relegation—threatented swansea city have been dealt a blow with the news winger nathan dyer will miss the rest of the season through injury. he ruptured his achilles tendon in the early stages of his side's victory over leicester yesterday. joe root has been named as england's new test cricket captain with the the ecb chairman colin graves calling the yorkshire batsman the "perfect choice". ben stokes has been appointed vice—captain. root succeeds alastair cook, who resigned last week. his first test in charge will be against south africa at lord's in july. a tremendous performance.
