bournemouth pushed a lot, but that is normal in this stadium with these players. i am so pleased with what we have done, and especially the last ten or 15 minutes, the best way to keep their resolve is to make 1000 million passes, so we did it really well. this game was all about winning and getting results. in terms of changing team selections and formation, we did that tonight within the game. we are always looking for more ways to get results. ultimately i don't think we are judged by the night's game. results. ultimately i don't think we arejudged by the night's game. our season will be judged by what happens from this point. in italy's serie a, lazio and milan played out a 1—1 draw, with a late suso goal for milan handing them a point at the stadio olimpico in rome. the hosts were ahead on the stroke of half—time when lucas biglia slotted home a penalty. but the final result means lazio miss a chance to climb two places to fourth, while milan are one spot behind them, in seventh. also one game in spain's primera division, with eibar elevating themselves seventh

recruited to restore english pride. a tremendous performance, root has played magnificently. a magnificent 100 from root 1 here's the dynamo of circumstances. here's the dynamo of the england team. joe root has gotten used to being england cricket's great hope. now he faces something else, great responsibility. life has prepared him for sport. in january responsibility. life has prepared him for sport. injanuary he became a father for the first time. he will approach leading just as he does parenting. it is one of those things that you sort of have to learn on—the—job. i suppose being a dad, you don't really know what to do until you sort ofjust have to go with it and see how it goes. i imagine that will be very similar. you can see baby alfie is already in white. it is after all a family that sta rts white. it is after all a family that starts them early. you will find roofs starts them early. you will find root‘s routes among fertile treating soil. on the outskirts of sheffield is where it began forjoe. he still goes back to sheffield collegiate,

which has produced one captain and michael vaughan. his brother billy and dad matt also played here and the name has appeared on local scorecards further back still. the family are everywhere, even upstairs where grandmother barbara plays bridge. so how do those who know him bestjudgejoe's bridge. so how do those who know him best judge joe's hand? bridge. so how do those who know him best judge joe's hand ?|j bridge. so how do those who know him bestjudge joe's hand? i think it should be ok, but you can only really tell when they are getting thejob. it is really tell when they are getting the job. it is very much learning really tell when they are getting thejob. it is very much learning on thejob. it is very much learning on thejob, being a cricket captain. and the onus of responsibility being england cricket captain, hopefully it will be successful. you see, routes don't get carried away. despite joe's progress routes don't get carried away. despitejoe's progress in sheffield, the world number one batsman, he has already scored 11 test centuries and played all three forms of the game. there are still concerns. he has only rarely led his g and there are still concerns. he has only captain d his g and there are still concerns. he has only captain compromises nd there are still concerns. he has only captain compromises root the root captain compromises root the run maker? they don't dwell on all that around here, though. run maker? they don't dwell on all that around here, thoughm run maker? they don't dwell on all that around here, though. it is a

big job, butjoe is the kind of person that will take it in his stride. i think is more than capable of dealing with the pressures of captaincy brings. the way in which he plays his cricket, the way in which he goes about his business, you imagine it will lend itself to being a great captain. you could look at virat kohli from india, joe root is in the same sort of class as a player. root into the team that lost 4—0 in india last year and faces south africa in summer before the ashes to come winter. who knows how he will affect? we can, though, guess his approach. in the words of his grandfather, mad keen. former england captain michael vaughan believesjoe root is ready to imitate virat kohli, who also took over as captain of india at a young age. australia's steve smith became the skipper of the baggy greens in 2015, and this is how his record stands after 1a matches. kane williamson followed brendon mccullum as the new zealand captain, and he has won more than he has lost in the last 12 months. but by some distance the most impressive record belongs to kohli, whose 23 tests as captain includes a 19—match unbeaten stretch. and kohli's india beat bangladesh

by 208 runs in their one—off test in hyderabad, concluding on monday. having been set an unlikely a59 to win their first ever test match on indian soil, a fighting half—century from mohammad mahmudullah couldn't get them there. bangladesh were all out for 250 just before tea on the final day. spinners ravi ashwin and ravindra jadeja shared eight wickets. so kohli's record as captain is impressive, but he thinks the credit needs to be spread around. i don't think it is because of me. everyone at the international level wa nts to everyone at the international level wants to do well. it is as simple as that and we are playing as a team. i think that has been the difference in this team. you can say probably 2016, you know, i have scored a lot of runs, but before that, 2015 as well, we won test matches where i didn't score many runs but the other

of wales, north—west england. a chilly start for many of us, with the exception perhaps into the south—west. so first thing on tuesday will look somewhat like this. cloud and outbreaks of rain through cornwall, eventually nudging into parts of devon. a little more cloud through somerset and south wales, and that hill fog as well. but elsewhere it will be a cold start with some decent spells of sunshine. further north and west again dry, largely sunny, maybe the chance of a little bit bit of light, patchy frost in sheltered areas of scotland, but not a bad start to the day. and, as we go on through the day, i think you will continue to see some sunshine, and temperatures will be a degree also up on where they were on monday. the exception really is into the south—west, where the cloud will begin to gather, pushing up through the midlands and into wales. eventually into northern ireland. it will bring the odd spot of showery rain by the end of the day. but temperatures still decent, 11—12 degrees. highs hopefully six or seven into eastern scotland. so we're starting to get there.

that weather front will move out of the way, and then we have this series of fronts out to the south—west which produce a messy picture for wednesday. there will be some rain with these frontal systems, but it is going to be very hit—and—miss as they drift up from the south. there will be outbreaks of patchy rain. it will be cloudy but mild and less windy than we have seen this week. the best of the brightness into the far north and east. eight or nine degrees by wednesday afternoon. highest values of 11 further south. things are likely to quieten down as we go towards the end of the week. the isobars will open up, the winds will fall lighter, and that means that there will be a good deal of dry, mild weather in the story. but early morning mist and fog could be a problem. that will slowly lift, and any rain we get will be light and patchy. so, all in all, not a bad end to the week. a very warm welcome to bbc news, broadcasting to our viewers in north america and around the globe. my name's mike embley. our top stories:
