the daily telegraph story. the deadly attack, the horrific attack in syria. it has forced donald trump's hand in terms of defining or clarifying his position on the country. it has. it has led to him stating this could not be tolerated, which i think is departing from previous positions that the new government in the us and also in the previous one had in terms of saying we would not engage in syria. i am interested that mr trump did not refer to russia, which is one of the key allies in syria, and of course it is quite interesting to see how this is playing out, because mr trump has also been very critical of us military engagement in iraq and

afghanistan. it remains to be seen whether this attack on tuesday is going to lead to him reversing us policy and becoming more involved. also the famously tweeted when a chemical attack happened on president 0bama's watch, some years ago, don't take military action, when president 0bama talked about crossing the red line, and we didn't know what the reaction in the us would be, trumped the businessmen we re would be, trumped the businessmen were saying don't take action. —— trump the businessmen. while he was addressing the press in the rose garden, we had the security council meeting in which russia said it was not the assad regime. this is the problem. it is this relationship between russia and syria, and whether the trump administration will put pressure on russia in terms of its role. yes, this whole dynamic is an interesting one. we have seen russia in the past backing the assad

issue that mr trump thinks that china is manipulating its currency, and he has been saying they have been using us as a piggy bank to rebuild china. so there is of course this issue between the two. do you think they feed into each other? in terms of trump wanting china's help, he has called for their help in terms of the leveraged they have against north korea. is trade the way to do that? is that the only way he can get china to sing from the same hymn sheet? it is an interesting one, because in the end geopolitical questions do not always closely connected china to trade. china has a strong interest in continuing trade at the level it is with the us, and it remains to be seen with the us, and it remains to be seen whether on the one side mr trump being relatively aggressive in terms of wanting to renegotiate trade, and on the other hand also saying please help with north korea. 0ne saying please help with north korea. one thing could be, of course, that there could be some compromise

most places will be dry, maybe a little bit of light rain across the north—west of scotland. more of a breeze here. but where you have the cloud, relatively mild, 7—9 degrees. where the skies clear, cool, perhaps with a touch of frost in some rural places. so a quiet looking start to thursday. most of us will be seeing light winds, but across the north, high pressure, in towards northern and western scotland, more of a strong, north—westerly breeze. that will fit in quite a lot of cloud to the northern isles. west scotland, some drizzle, with the east of scotland potentially seeing some shelter, so a few of you could be seeing some breaks and some sunshine. variable cloud, maybe a bit of sunshine for northern england. i think much of wales and england, variable cloud and some sunny spells. i think probably the best of the sunshine in south wales, in towards the south—west of england, where we could make 15 or 16 degrees. on friday, a similar story. light winds for most, variable cloud, also some sunshine. the high pressure is with us for thursday and friday, but it moves position as we head towards the weekend. this is pretty crucial, because we then start to pull a southerly wind off

the near continent. it is drier air, and eventually it will be warmer air, particularly as we head on into sunday. notice the blue colours behind me, though. this is an approaching weather front, a cooler mass of air, which will arrive across the far north—west of the country as the weekend wears on. so i think, for saturday, probably a greater chance of seeing more sunshine around. temperatures up just that little bit. 15, 16, maybe 17 celsius. more cloud, though, across the north—west of the country. it is looking pretty good for the grand national, as well. aintree, on saturday, a lot of dry weather, temperatures around the mid—teens celsius. now, on sunday, that weather front approaches northern ireland, western scotland. strengthening winds, and feeling quite cool, outbreaks of rain. but for england and wales it is looking much sunnier, because we are pulling down to warmerand drierairoff the near continent. it is going to be really warm, with temperatures in the low 20s celsius. we could make 23 degrees across the south—east. so the main message for the next few days — because of high pressure, it is going to be largely dry,
