or to refugees, or the situation in syria, who takes responsibility for this act of terror. i think it is too early tonight to draw conclusions about what we can — who is really behind this. it is really too early. does it matter who it is, that is the perpetrator? we had acts of terror from the right—wing in sweden as well. we had that a couple of years ago. it was not that widely reported throughout the world but we have seen acts of terror from both sides. jihadism is a serious problem in europe, and sweden is not an exception. let's wait and see what this really is. the perpetrator or the perpetrators might still be at large, we are not sure about that tonight. peter wolodarski, thank you very much. that's it for tonight. that is it for this week.
11:46 pm
it's been another busy one. have a good weekend. hello and welcome to sportsday. i'm lizzie greenwood—hughes. the headlines tonight: willetts‘s woes, as the reigning masters champion looks set to miss the cut. meanwhile, sergio garcia is the clubhouse leader in augusta, on four—under—par. rodgers commits his future to celtic, signing a four—year deal as manager of the scottish champions. and great britain are one defeat away from going out of the davis cup in the quarter—finals. so a busy day of sport.
11:47 pm
let's start with golf, and the masters is well into its second day in augusta. and the course is really testing even the very best, including england's reigning champion, danny willett, who is on the verge of missing the cut, after a horror—story eight on the first hole. spain's ryder cup stalwart sergio garcia has been the day's big winner. he is in the clubhouse on four—under—par, joint leader so far after a second round of 69, in a three—way tie for the lead with american‘s charley hoffman and rickie fowler, and belgium's thomas pieters. justin rose is the best briton so far, on two—under for the tournament. and rory mcilroy is one over. conditions much calmer there today, but the wind is still causing a few problems, and still only ten players are under par from the first two rounds. i enjoy
11:48 pm
when courses play tough, and i enjoy when the masters plays difficult, because it means that the high—quality shots are going to be rewarded, and you have to hit the ball the right way. so usually, if i am in good form, i can do that. onto football, and after leading celtic to the scottish premiership title, manager brendan rodgers has agreed a new four—year contract at parkhead. he has been on a rolling i2—month deal sincejoining celtic last summer, but after leading them to a sixth consecutive league title, and still on for the treble, rodgers has committed his future to the club, calling them the greatest in the world. liverpool's top scorer, sadio mane, will miss the rest of the season. he suffered a knee injury in last week's victory over everton, and managerjurgen klopp said he is pretty sure mane needs surgery. liverpool haven't won all season without mane. meanwhile, arsenal manager arsene wenger believes his striker alexis sanchez wants to stay at the club. sanchez is under contract until next summer, but there have been reports suggesting he is keen to leave. wenger, though, is confident he will renew his deal.
11:49 pm
i believe that basically he wants to stay at the club, and it is down to find an agreement with his agent. you know, ithink find an agreement with his agent. you know, i think the players first—half to see they are happy at the club, and after most of the time it is down to finding an agreement. but where the finances are involved, yes. england's women have been in action this evening. they have been playing a friendly against italy, at vale park. both sides have qualified for this summer's european finals. it finished i—i, jodie taylor with the goal for england. mark sampson's side had their chances, but couldn't convert them. brighton are back on top of the championship, after a 2—1 win at queens park rangers. glenn murray put them ahead after the break, and sebastien pocognoli's inch—perfect free kick made it 2—0. matt smith pulled one back for qpr. brighton are two points clear of newcastle, but they have played one game more. one other football line for you,
11:50 pm
and it has emerged that the amount of money paid by english clubs to agents or intermediaries has gone up by more than a third across the premier league and efl. and, as david ornstein reports, there are now calls for the huge pay—outs to be capped. football has never been so wealthy. as income has risen, it is not only the clubs and players who have profited. new figures for england show that payments to agents have hit an all—time high. one of them isjonathan barnett, responsible for some of the game's biggest deals, including gareth bale's move to real madrid. we ioo% deserve what we get. we get paid for what we're worth. if we do a good job for our player, then we get paid. if we do a bad job, then we don't. there are plenty of agents that don't earn a living. the fact is, i'm not employed to be in the game of football.
11:51 pm
i'm employed to look after a player, and that's the way it is. it's not highway robbery. over the past 12 months, £220 million were spent on agents in the premier league and efl, a 38% increase. £174 million came from top—division teams, and manchester city led the way, paying out £26 million. it's unacceptable for me, that kind of money going out of the game, when that could easily be used for grassroots football, non—league football, and just children in general, you know, wanting to play the game. football's governing body, fifa, deregulated the industry two years ago, allowing anybody to become an agent, and stating that a 3% cap on commission was only a guideline. it's one of those kind of facts of life. we wish it were different, but we seem incapable of controlling it. all clubs do their best, obviously. we don't want to pay any more than we have do, that goes without saying. but it's a tough market.
11:52 pm
the numbers can be eye—watering, but if clubs want players, they have to pay. the influence of agents is only likely to grow. great britain face an uphill struggle to make it to the last four of the davis cup. in the absence of world number one andy murray, they trail france 2—0, after a disappointing first day in rouen. earlier, the bbc team of jamie baker, john lloyd and sue barker gave us their assessments. yes, it is very much advantage france. 2—0 up after the opening day and you look back to that second set tiebreak where kyle edmund led 5—2. that was it, really. that could have been the turn of the match. and i have to say kyle edmund could have beena have to say kyle edmund could have been a bit more aggressive, but you have to see pouille was brilliant. just suddenly got more aggressive, had the confidence that a top 20 player has, and once the won that's it, really the match was over. change the momentum of the match
11:53 pm
completely, didn't it? yes, on a clay court, even though it is edmund's best surface. he played the big points well, and especially that tiebreak, once he got a two set lead he was going to be very difficult, and kyle edmund did lose a bit of the lead at that point. so second match, dan evans up againstjeremy chardy, the pick of the captain to come in, beating out simon. it was a brave decision, and justified. absolutely, he was brilliant today. just so aggressive, the ball was so heavy of his shots. it looked to me like dan evans had nothing to hurt him. you felt for dan evans, because he was hitting the serves so big, chardy was heading back, scurrying behind the baseline for most of the match. he was speaking to him a lot during the match, and i was thinking stops speaking, he is playing amazingly well. he was comfortable from the first point to the last. and smith, the british captain, not
11:54 pm
so and smith, the british captain, not so comfortable. he has to try and lift his team because there are still three matches to be played. there are still a chance, a slim chance. well, smith's attitude will be we are 2—0 down, it is not over yet. they have to get the three, let's make them work hard for every rubber and they can still win the match. and it'll be an interesting that, you will be able to see it on bbc one ati:10 that, you will be able to see it on bbc one at 1:10 p.m.. there is plenty of rugby union to tell you about tonight, starting with two games in the premiership. worcester couldn't hold on against sale, who won 36—26 at the aj bell stadium. but the bonus—point try for worcester might be enough to keep them in the premiership. they are now ten points clear of bottom club bristol. and, in the other game, it was very close at kingston park, where newcastle beat gloucester 16—14. there were also two games in the pro 12. ulster came from behind to draw 24—24 with cardiff, luke marshall's converted late try bringing them level. elsewhere, connaught beat edinburgh 22—19. it was also a busy night in rugby
11:55 pm
league, with five super league games, and bottom—of—the—table warrington got their first win, against a leeds rhinos side who could have gone top tonight. 25—14 the score, kurt gidley getting the final try for the hosts. elsewhere, there were wins for salford, wakefield and catalans dragons, while st helens drew with huddersfield. the chinese formula i grand prix should go ahead on sunday as planned, after organisers decided against bringing the race forward due to the poor weather forecast. second practice was cancelled, after low cloud and rain in shanghai made it unsafe for the medical helicopter to operate. safety requirements dictate cars cannot run if the helicopter cannot fly. but lewis hamilton said there must be a rethink in procedure, so that racing can still go ahead in bad weather. the grand national at aintree is tomorrow, but today's big race, thejlt melling chase, was won by fox norton. the seven—year—old, trained by colin tizzard, finished well ahead of the pre—race favourite sub lieutenant.
11:56 pm
fox norton's win marked another success forjockey robbie power, who won the cheltenham gold cup last month. that's all from sportsday. there will be more sport here on bbc news in the morning. from all of us, good night. rory mcilroy is hoping to move up with the leaders in augusta. garcia tied for fourth. with the leaders in augusta. garcia tied forfourth. go with the leaders in augusta. garcia tied for fourth. go to the website to learn more about that. killer that, good evening. and for a

weekend in early april we are in for a treat, because there is going to be plenty of strong april sunshine out there, and those temperatures are going to respond. it is going to turn quite warm, particular across central and eastern areas. having said that, it is turning quite cold the eastern areas, and temperatures dropping away. by the end of the note in major towns and cities we are in single figures. in rural spots temperatures really will dip away, down to two or three degrees. so quite a fresh old start to the day but it won't last long, the chilly field of things. and another they have quite high levels of pollen, especially across england and wales. it is birch pollen at this time of year. chilly start, it won't last too long. patches of mist and fog not lasting too long. plenty of sunshine out there and a bit more cloud to the north—west. most places just a lovely day, with sunshine and light winds. into the upper teens and low 20s quite easily. in the north and west, with a bit more cloud, it will never be quite that

warm but a decent day at aintree. a gentle breeze from the south, plenty of blue sky, and temperature around 18 degrees. getting warmer for the second part of the weekend. by this stage the air is coming up from spain and that warmth will be felt, especially across central and eastern parts of england in particular. towards the north and west, a thickening cloud, a bit of rain arriving in the western scotla nd rain arriving in the western scotland and northern ireland later on and we will increase the amount of cloud in the western side of england and wales. moving in them, plenty more sunshine and we will see temperatures around 23 or 2a degrees. a very pleasant day indeed if you like that sort of thing, but only 13 degrees in the north and west. eventually that cooler air will wind out, sunday night into monday the cloud and rain slips its way south. not much rain on that weather front but it will introduce this much cooler, fresh airfor the start of the new week so temperatures will tumble away as you get into monday. here is a quick reminder of sunday's temperatures. in the upper teens widely, low to

middle 20s for a few. somewhere like reading could see temperatures dropping by around eight or nine degrees. so much cooler day on monday. a cloudy day as well. there is likely to be a few showers dotted around and it is actually going to be colder in the far north of scotland, up over higher ground, for some of those showers to turn into a little bit of sleet and snow. so all change over the next few days with the weather. if you are on the move, off on holiday, keep up—to—date with the weather on the bbc weather website. welcome to bbc news. i'm reged ahmad. the united states warns it could take further military action against the syrian government. after its missile strike on a syrian air base, russia said it will no longer —— the us said it will now no longer allow russian, exterior to use chemical weapons. we took a major step last night. we are prepared to
