celtic was founded 130 years ago as the team of glasgow's large irish catholic population. it still finds its most loyal support there. for decades, that community suffered systematic workplace discrimination in a scotland still shaped by its protestantism. it was like scotland's dirty little secret, that was never quite spoken about, but everybody knew that it was there. the 1967 european cup final coincided with a moment when scotland and this community's place in it began to change. this is a narrative throughout a whole generation of young celtic supporters who grew up and said those men there are symbols, you know, and we look up to them and say — we can be — and not certainly as football players — but we can emulate them in other ways and in other walks of life, and that's all what we all grew up wanting to do. commentator: inter milan kick off, and in a continental year heatwave. ..

and got them out of the relagtion zone in april, they faltered in the final run in and couldn't beat the drop. there was a meeting last night when he activated his release clause. grateful of the opportunity that he decided to take at hull city but ultimately it ended in relegation and after considering his future he has chosen to leave the club in order to further his career. a young and ambitious manager but at hull city he was not able to arrest their away form so he may want to continue in the premier league and he will no doubt have suitors but we will have to wait and see. also out of a job tonight is garry monk who says he was "unable to reach agreement about the way forward " with the new leeds united owner andrea radrizzani. he has resigned after one season at elland road, they finished seventh in the championship just outside the play—offs. monk, who was previously in charge at swansea, said he had seen himself being at leeds for "many years to come".

the first leg of the scottish premiership play off between dundee united and hamilton was goaless at tannadice this evening. but there was still plenty of drama. hamilton, who finished second bottom of the premiership, had the better of the first half and could have scored but the home side rallied in the second. dundee united ended the season second in the champiuonship, and their striker simon murray was sent off near the end for a second booking for diving. clubs can appeal against bookings for simulation so murray could still play in the second leg which takes place on sunday. after the departure of pablo zabaleta from manchester city, four more senior players are to leave this summer. gael clichy, bacary sagna, willy caballero and jesus navas will all leave as free agents. navas signed for city from sevilla in 2013 and made 123 premier league appearances for the club. he's been linked with a move back to the spanish side. there's been no news
