eyewitnesses have told me that about ten past 12 the seasoning, a white band went down seven sisters rd and they say it deliberately went into a group of people on the pavement. —— at the scene. they were helping an elderly gentleman who had collapsed beforehand. eyewitnesses again say they saw between four to eight people on the ground injured. we don't know how proudly. those people we re don't know how proudly. those people were wearing identifiably muslim clothing. many people had come out of the two mosques here. the finsbury park mosque and the other mosque. they were attending last prayers and had come out to have a break and a snack. there was a lot of anger picos people feel they were deliberately targeted. —— because.

we have another eyewitness here. what are you learning from people at the mosque? i have spoken to people that it was a deliberate attack targeting muslims. it is obviously ramadan so prayers usually finish around 1215 when people were leaving the mosque. there was a lot of crowd. the van came towards them and deliberately knocked them over. if a deliberate act is confirmed, it is an act of terrorism which must be condemned by all people. within that muslim community or the far right, innocent people have lost their lives and my heart goes out to them. where are

you getting your information from? is it the mosque or people on the ground? speaking to a number of people who were there and leaving the mosque. i have speak into the chairman of the local mosque as well in the last hour. most of the information is from people who were on the ground who witnessed the van coming towards them. obviously people are concerned. can i ask you, what is it that is making people think it was the deliberate attack on them? i have spoken to two people that said as they left the mosque, the ban came towards them as they we re the ban came towards them as they were walking on the pavement. —— van. one of the attackers left the van. one of the attackers left the van and a lot of unconfirmed reports but clearly, the people on the ground are saying it was a

deliberate attack. we must wait for the police to declare the circumstances of this particular incident and if it is confirmed a deliberate attack, we need to call it out. we still face a threat from far right extremism and there is this love for the on the increase and we need to call it out. -- increased islamaphobia. who would have been coming out of the prayers at this time? the prayers go from about quarter past 11 and for about an hour. many different ethnicities, an hour. many different ethnicities, a very vibrant community. many families with children who would have also been attending prayers in the evening. it is the last week of ramadan. you would have found a diverse range of different people

ago. it is interesting, you're highlighting that it was a different building. it is a very densely, tightly packed area, isn't it, in terms of how big the pavement is. when a large crowd comes out, it is a busy area. absolutely. and that this particular time, around midnight during ramadan, it would have been packed. what we know is that people were coming out of both the finsbury park mosque and the muslim welfare house near the area. let's listen to a statement from the labour leaderjeremy corbyn who is saying he is totally shocked by the north london mosque incidents. that is the labour leaderjeremy corbyn, totally shocked. in addition to their sadiq khan. yes, i believe the finsbury park mosque false under jeremy corbyn's constituency. not only is he speaking as the leader of

the opposition, he is the local mp in that area and he will have immediate concerns for his constituents there. we are looking at pictures of the cordoned off junction, a row of police officers there, knocking the road of police response units. —— blocking. just out of shot is a very large crowd of a lot of people who can't get back to where they need to be as well as those who are just seeing what has happened. eyewitness reports on the round is saying that gordon has been growing since police have been called. it has been about 3.5 hours since police arrived on the scene —— cordons. at the moment, it does look like they have contained whatever was happening but that gordon has been extended. people may be waiting to get access to their homes —— cordon. we have heard from police

saying they are attending a major incident and also ambulance services say they have sent a huge number of resources to the scene. there is still a lot of speculation about whether it was deliberate. we have now had no official word from the police or the ambulance services on any of that. you use that word speculation and it's interesting because we have been speaking to eyewitnesses who say there is a little bit of hostility among the crowd that this is not already being called a terror attack. of course, we have been in this situation before, haven't we, unfortunately, where information starts coming through. some of it, use a speculation. information is from bits of different sources and it is difficult to build up a picture in just a couple of hours. this is early, ina just a couple of hours. this is early, in a sense, isn't it? it is early, in a sense, isn't it? it is early in the sense we all are relying on eyewitness accounts when clearly they witnessed something shocking. they are not exactly sure

what has happened. the key in this situation is just to wait for police who will be on the ground. what tends to happen and what we expect over the next few hours as we get closer into the morning is for the metropolitan police to give us an update. in recent times when i van mounted the pavement in london bridge, police were treating it as a terrorist incident. as of yet, and we are onlyjust over three hours since police were called, they haven't given that update. no, they haven't. we are looking at pictures from a short time ago. the police response around seven sisters road in north london. you can see lots of people out on the streets after that incident. as you are just differentiating, let's divide the two. the metropolitan police have said they have been responding to, along with other emergency services, an incident involving a vehicle

colliding with pedestrians. that is what the matter saying. of course, we are getting lots of eyewitness reports —— met. the reports are about van mounting the pavement and about van mounting the pavement and a manjumping out. we are basing this on what we have heard from eyewitnesses who have said that they have seen as many as ten people injured. we have a few eyewitnesses who tell us that they think at least three people were seriously injured. usually in these scenarios we would wait for the london ambulance service although police to confirm anything. at the moment they are telling us that this isa moment they are telling us that this is a major incident and they have sent multiple resources to that scene. an indication that it is a major incident comes from the british prime minister, to reza may.

she has been informed, we are hearing, of this incident. that was from a spokeswoman at downing street. to bring you up to date, downing street of saying that to reza made has been informed of the london mosque incident. that does give us a sense that this is something major. —— theresa may has been informed. it is not often you would hear from a spokeswoman at this time in the morning. i suspect theresa may it will be waiting for the facts before she says anything, no doubt she will be hearing from the police and they will be having conversations over the next few hours. it is important to add that the police say one man has been arrested at the scene. it does seem like whatever was happening appears to be over. they are yet to issue an update but it appears from looking at these pictures that the police are very at these pictures that the police are very much containing the crowd, as opposed to looking for anybody

else at this time. the leader of the opposition, jeremy corbyn, has given a statement. we have heard from the mayor of london and to reza may. —— theresa may. let's get another eyewitness account. hillary lives on the seven sisters road and her house is right across from the police cordon. she described the scene. i live on on seven sisters road, just down the street from where the attack happened. the cordons just passed my flat window. basically i got home around midnight and shortly after getting home i started hearing a lot of yelling and screeching and a lot of chaos outside. so i went down and ran out on the street to see what was happening. everybody was shouting, "a van's hit people, a van's hit people". and basically, there was this white van stopped outside finsbury park mosque that seems

to have hit people who were coming out after prayers had finished. i didn't see the attacker himself although he seems to have been arrested but i did see the van. the police started to ask people to move back so they could put up a cordon and we were pushed back along the street. civilians were quite agitated and shouting that this was a white supremacist attack and it should be called terror and people were very unwilling to move back and were very angry. the police were calm and kept moving people backwards to just past durham road, a bit further back down seven sisters road. i returned to my flat because the cordon is further along so i can enter and have access to my flat. i am watching everything unfolding from my window. about five fire engines have just pulled up.

we're all feeling quite helpless and not really knowing what to do. i've just gone downstairs and helped handing out water with the food market i live on top of. other than that, we're just sitting here in waiting for information to come in. it is after midnight in london but, as you say, if this was a mosque then evening press would have happened. how busy was it? i came home about 11:30. i don't remember exactly but i know that there was the call to prayer on as i was walking down the street, and there was lots of people walking towards it. finsbury park mosque is one of the biggest mosques in europe and there is a very thriving muslim community here. so it's very active and very busy. i came home and got ready to go to bed and then i started hearing all the noise. when i went downstairs, the street was full of people reacting to what had

happened but i don't know exactly how many people had just come out of the mosque itself or who were there at the time or, like me, had responded after hearing the chaos and went down to see what was happening. when people started to get a bit agitated and it seemed like there would be a scuffle erupting between some of them and police, i instinctively moved back out of the way because, obviously you want to make you do not get caught up in anything that unfolds after. the police were very professional, very calm and they recognised that people were just panicked and upset about what was happening. in terms of casualties, how many people could you see hurt? what kinds of injuries could you see? i couldn't really see much but i know there were at least three people, from the little bit i could see and the crowd had been pushed back, there seemed to be at least three people who were definitely seriously injured because

people were being pushed as far back from them as possible so that the emergency services could get through. so i know at least three but i have a feeling there were more. i imagine that if the people were friends or relatives in the area or at the mosque then there must have been people quite panicked and upset around them. exactly. there were women crying and just a lot of men yelling. there was a lot of yelling in what i assume was arabic so i could not understand everything that people were shouting. i can't tell you exactly what was being said but there was definitely a lot of... there were all sorts of people outside, there were women, children, young adults. it was a complete mix. i'm not sure what ages the victims themselves were. we are looking at pictures of the police presence on the road. lots of police cars, from the latest pictures we have received. what can you now see from your window in terms of how big

this operation is? the operation is definitely huge. i am looking out my window so you may hear a little more noise. just outside there are five police cars right outside my front door and at least 13 or 15 at the end of the cordon. if i look left can see the station and the entire road is backed up with police cars, ambulances, there were at least five fire trucks, the big ones, and, literally, from the station almost all the way down it is entirely ambulances, sirens, police cars and i know that the cordon is going off in the other direction because i know somebody who lives further down. they was messaging

me telling me that the cordon is going down in that direction as well. so it seems to be a significant part of seven sisters road. that was an eyewitness speaking to mea that was an eyewitness speaking to me a short time ago. she lives over the road from the area we are looking at now is not a junction in north london near the seven sisters road, near finsbury park mosque, where an incident took place shortly after midnight london time. the incident has been described by the metropolitan police as a vehicle colliding with pedestrians. from the various eyewitness accounts that we have been getting here at bbc news, there are people saying that this was some kind of deliberate attack. avan being was some kind of deliberate attack. a van being driven deliberately at a crowd of worshippers as they came out of the mosque after evening prayers men, women, children and

their having attended the evening prayers. the london evening standard, the newspaper, reported that a man leapt out of the van, stabbing at least one person. we get differing numbers in terms of how many people were injured at the scene many people were injured at the scene but, certainly, we're hearing three, four, five at least. ambulances have ta ken three, four, five at least. ambulances have taken those people away. there is now a cordon and they are blocking off the road. you are looking at pictures that came into us looking at pictures that came into us earlier, giving you a sense of how big the police operation here is will stop the police and the flashing lights with ambulances and the crowd gathered. even though it is the early hours of the morning, people were coming out after evening prayers. you can see the major response units, police vans and ambulances. we are getting a lot of reaction to this, despite it being

also heard from the mayor, sadiq khan. let's return them to be live pictures. you can see police at a cordon, behind police tape at a junction near seven sisters road. just out of shot there is a large crowd of people, because people have been coming from the mosque and people have now been coming out. eyewitnesses describing the noise from the helicopters over top. people have come out to see exactly what is going on, waiting to get information. that information is coming from a variety of sources, as happens during these incidents. often there is a lag between what you hear from eyewitnesses and journalists and what you get officially on the record from authorities and emergency services. it is understandable, of course, as they are dealing with the incident

and trying to deal with the crowd, still with the injured, and work out exactly what happened in terms of the investigation. the metropolitan police are saying that it was a collision with a vehicle colliding with pedestrians. the muslim council of britain going slightly further saying that worshippers were hit by a van as they left prayers at the finns brick park mosque. one eyewitness told the bbc at least three people were seriously injured. the sun newspaper say that two people, possibly feared dead during this incident. it is not something that the bbc is able to confirm at the moment. and the london evening standard reports that after that van drove into the crowd, a manjumped out and started stabbing at least one person. you are looking at live pictures in north london, in the
