just drove around and after that he just drove through and he hit seven or eight people. one of them was underneath the van. my dad got hit on his shoulder and legs. my dad ‘s friend got hit on the stomach. what was he saying? muslim people, kill. kill all muslims. while the van was coming through, a guy was walking past me and after that he saw the van coming and pushed me back and then he moved back as well. a very scary time for you, but since then you have returned to the mask? yes. before the attack what was at night,
7:46 pm
we re before the attack what was at night, were you ever scared of going out or practising your faith? no, i was not scared. this never happened in this area before. our news correspondent lisa hampele has been at the scene today — and explains the community reaction to the attack. this is a particularly multicultural pa rt this is a particularly multicultural part of london. less gentrified than some other areas of london but they are very proud here of their multi—faith community. all day they have been pulling together, we had people writing messages, leaving flowers. schoolchildren have come at the end of their day to add their messages. we've been hearing from many of the communities here saying things like, let's find the courage to love, not in my name, and one community. at arsenal football club have laid a large bouquet underneath

the bridge here and put in a message, we stand together. well jeremy corbyn, the local mp for finsbury has been speaking at the mosque. so in this time of sadness, this time of fear that so many people have, let's reach out in strength. let's support people going through the most unbelievable stress and pain as their loved ones are lying in the royal london hospital hoping that they recover. as they are frightened of racist violence and racist attacks and remarks on the streets. let us treat each other with respect, let us challenge anyone that uses any kind of discriminatory or racist language in any shape or form. discriminatory or racist language in any shape orform. not in an aggressive way, just politely say to them, you would not like that says about you, do not say about anyone else. live together and respect each

other. and when we lived together and respect each other we realise that we all are unique, we all are philosophers in our own way, we all have our different forms of ambition and imagination that we can all achieve. and we cherish that and learn from each other and that is what makes our society so much stronger. so if there's anything good to come from this horrible incident on sunday night, during the month of ramadan when people should be celebrating and looking forward to the festival ede and those celebrations, the person who did that thought they could divide our community and do the same everywhere else. it is not going to work in this area, in birmingham, leicester, manchester, it is not going to work anywhere. because we will not allow it to work anywhere. so our message
7:49 pm
tonight is simply this. we are here tonight is simply this. we are here tonight in support of the mosque and muslim welfare house because of the stress they are going for full. if this mosque is attacked, is a synagogue is attacked, if a church is attacked, if any prisoners attacked, we are all under attack because of that. let's have that sense of solidarity from all communities. bring them together in that sense of unity. i'm proud to represent this community and i think what we have achieved in finsbury park and that sense of understanding of all our communities is something that i would like to see learned from and may be copied elsewhere. because we do have this incredible sense of community tea and coming together. that is why we are here on the streets tonight and if anyone tries anything against any of our
7:50 pm
communities were going to be here in even greater numbers showing that same sense of solidarity. so thank you all for being here, thank you for all the different faith communities that have come together this evening to show their support and solidarity. and bringing people together gives joy and strength and happiness. and gives us the chance ofa happiness. and gives us the chance of a better, more peaceful and more prosperous world in the future. thank you all very much. jeremy corbyn, the local mp, speaking outside the finsbury park mosque where that attack took place just a few days ago. the metropolitan head of the metropolitan police told the bbc her force is stretched and revealed she is asking the government for more funding. cressida dick said officers are carrying out a number of very extensive terror investigations after a number of recent attacks on

top of having to deal with a rise in violent crime. she was speaking to oui’ violent crime. she was speaking to our home affairs correspondent. three terrorist attacks, five more foils. a devastating fire. all this on top of rising violent crime in london. the pace feels relentless for the metropolitan police. we're not having any fewer calls for help from the public so we are stretched. today the commission revealed that she was now talking to ministers about the £400 million of savings scotla nd about the £400 million of savings scotland yard said it must make by 2020. we do undoubtedly need a very capable police service in the future for all the reasons that people can see, i'm sure we can become more efficient but we need the resources to do the job and i'm talking to the government and the mayor about that. metropolitan police sources say they confident the government will listen and provide more funding. the home office insisted it would ensure they

have the resources needed to cut crime and keep community say. but the mayor rejected the claims of the department that the police budget had been protected. scotland yard also announced today it was paying to train an extra 1800 officers to carry taser stun guns. the commissioner ordered the move after a rise in knife crime and attacks on officers. but then they could also help ina officers. but then they could also help in a terror attack. i felt our emergency response teams should have more taser guns, clearly the horrible attacks in the last few weeks, i think will be very high in people's minds and there are incidences where taser guns will be andindeed incidences where taser guns will be and indeed has been involved in some arrests recently that terrorism related and will be a useful tool for officers to use. critics say
7:53 pm
that taser guns are dangerous and used far too often. particularly against black people. but scotland ya rd against black people. but scotland yard feels it is an increasingly important weapon in policing the capital today. hundreds of people attended the funeral of 15—year—old olivia campbell—hardy from bury, who was killed in the manchester arena terror attack. the teenager was today called a "true friend with an amazing smile." olivia was one of 22 people, who lost their lives in the suicide bombing last month. her parents asked that the service be a celebration, and thanksgiving for her life, as abbiejones reports. outside the church where olivia came for re lessons, they gathered in solidarity. silently watching her blue coffin arrive. mourners also wearing blue — the teenager's favourite colour. among them, in a wheelchair, olivia's friend adam lawler, with her on the night of the attack. his injuries clear to see. some here have known olivia since she was in primary school. it is just sickening, because she

was a happy and bubbly girl. really down to earth. just a typical 15—year—old girl. she was bubbly, happy, never caused any trouble. she was the best person and friend anyone could ask for. for others, it was a chance to show olivia's family their town was with them. anything that happens to the town really affects me and it is like i have to be here, it is my town, my people. draped over the teenager's coffin, a flag with a bee, the symbol of manchester since the attack. unity, a key message of the service. running through every element in it are the threads of hope and love. the exact opposite of meaninglessness and hate. she was a girl with character and vitality. the order of service for olivia's funeral says it all, her parents wanted this to be a celebration of her life, a celebration and thanksgiving. she was 15 years old, she full of life, and we want
7:55 pm
to give her the prom, the 16th, the 18th, everything she will miss now. and that is what is getting us through. we want to give her the best sendoff we can possibly give her. olivia was a talented singer, and her school choir sang during the service. then there was applause as her coffin was carried out. and a time for comfort for those who must now live with their loss. abbiejones, bbc north west tonight, tottington. it is one of the mysteries of the universe, is the life beyond the stars. if there is it might be found on one of ten new earth sized planets which have been discovered in the milky way. nasa scientists said data from the space telescope
