by interim inquiry must be produced by september 20 17. we're not had a formal response from downing street, but the feeling is that if this is going to be an independent inquiry thejudge has to going to be an independent inquiry the judge has to decide some of those issues. there is pressure getting put on the prime minister to deliver on behalf of the residents and then jeremy corbyn deliver on behalf of the residents and thenjeremy corbyn once his second phase which is much broader in scope looking at the problems in terms of building regulation and so on. his fear is that the initial inquiry, the scope of that, will be to narrow. he wants to keep the political pressure up. many thanks. you are watching bbc news. the headlines: nick pagett—brown has announced he is stepping down following criticism to the council's response to the g re nfell tower. a coroner has concluded that the deaths of five friends who drowned off camber sands last summer — as well as another two men the previous month —

hip problem. we will also hear about a change in cricket licensing and tae kwon do in korea. that is coming up tae kwon do in korea. that is coming up at 6:30pm. now it is time for the film review. hello and welcome to the film review on bbc news. to take us through this week's cinema releases is mark kermode. so mark, what do we have this week? a mixed bag this week. we have a portrait of a grumpy old man. we have despicable me three, the minions are back. and risk. lots to talk about but my most important role this week is to get the
5:48 pm
pronunciation right. this is a film that will make you feel and his sympathy for all the people in your life. the tag line is, you will love him as much a fee hates you. he wants to end his life but it keeps being distracted by his neighbours to keep breaking the housing association rules, of which he isa housing association rules, of which he is a stickler for keeping two. when a new family moves and he is furious about their presence, their annoyance, then being there. however, his wife says that behind that he starts to break down his resista nce that he starts to break down his resistance and she gets him to teach her to drive. here's a clip. hello.
5:49 pm
a fantastic look of exasperation on his face. he has a brilliant face. did you ever see the 100—year—old man who climbed out the window and disappeared? no. as shackled with that film because of the humour, and i never fell in with it. that film because of the humour, and i neverfell in with it. it looks like that kind of film but then we start to learn about his life story, young romance, childhood trauma, his relationship with his wife which is idyllic but faces tragedy, and you start to understand how he got to where he is and it is seat and sentimental. there is an ongoing argument about whether bobbles or saps argument about whether bobbles or sa ps are argument about whether bobbles or saps are the ideal cast. house leaders. entire friendships follow tour that these arguments but you start to see as a three—dimensional
5:50 pm
character. he has a strong moral compass and has been made better. inside that is the person he used to be. i went in not thinking i would go for it, but i laughed and cried. like any movie that makes me cry because it means that you believe in the characters. i really liked it. despite the tag line, you will love him as much as he hates you, it was easy to fall in with. a third of any film really. does the world need this? whether we need despicable me three is another thing. ifind them funny. they are running out of plots and they had to bring a character in to make it work, but you see the minions before the titles and one pulls out a far gone and it made me laugh. i giggled like an idiot for
5:51 pm
the rest of the film because i think that the minions are funny. the verbal staff is funny and they are perfect slapstick creations, they remind me of what was funny about old silent cinema. there is a new super villain but for me ijust find the minions funny. i laughed all the way through. even though i knew that i shouldn't, i did. you are allowed to do that. i am so interested in risk. her last film about edward snowden was brilliant. she was in the hotel room when the revelations we re the hotel room when the revelations were made. he came across as shy in that documentary. this is one about julian assange, who does not come
5:52 pm
across as shy. the film is conflicted about its subject. it began as a film about some under film makers seem to admire, but that changes. the portrait we get is some under this last is a stick, controlling, self obsessed, and has no self—awareness. here is a clip in whichjulian no self—awareness. here is a clip in which julian assange and no self—awareness. here is a clip in whichjulian assange and his associate are trying to call hillary clinton on the phone. this is an emergency. you clinton on the phone. this is an emergency. you are clinton on the phone. this is an emergency. you are the emergency line and it will take a while? 0k. do you want to do that now and i will wait. he would like to speak to her about that. 0k, will wait. he would like to speak to herabout that. 0k, let will wait. he would like to speak to her about that. 0k, let me start by
5:53 pm
giving you my phone number. details including an unredacted cables such to go on the internet. i do not understand why you do not see the urgency in this. who is he? hello, this is julian the urgency in this. who is he? hello, this isjulian assange. read do not have a problem, you have a problem. that is the tone of the film. the story is well now and, what is strange about this film is that it what is strange about this film is thatitis what is strange about this film is that it is very fragmented, it is not as good as her previous film. you can tell that it is a film in which the film—maker's relationship change during it. when the film was
5:54 pm
first seen about a year ago, the film—makers said the julian first seen about a year ago, the film—makers said thejulian assange demanded changes and got lawyers involved, which he did not have the right to do. she has made the film that she wanted. there is an irony in someone who is releasing information wanting to control it. we have seen this before another documentaries and in the drama, the fifth estate. you get an inside view, but it is fragmented and frustrated because even when they are talking about the election you wa nt are talking about the election you want the film to be more focused. it feels like it is falling apart. julian assange has said that the film will do his reputation no good andi film will do his reputation no good and i think that he is right. which some people may take as a recommendation in itself. it is interesting, also that it was made
5:55 pm
bya interesting, also that it was made by a woman. what is your best out this week? ija. it is basically as story about a girl in korea who is moved to america to keep aptech safety issue raised. it is a film about where food comes from and how capitalism hides behind the caring face. the film uses brilliant cgi to bring a giant pink to life, it is so terrible and strange and i liked it. —— a giant pink. it is very cinematic. it is thought promoting, it is not vegetarian propaganda but it is not vegetarian propaganda but it will give you food for thought. it is not vegetarian propaganda but it will give you food for thoughtlj like that phrase, vegetarian propaganda. what about dvds? he'll

the living was a small release. it isa the living was a small release. it is a story about a young man he was involved in an accident and his heart is used for a transplant to save someone else, heart is used for a transplant to save someone else, to heal the living. it is a film about the miracle of medicine but it is more than that, it is about life and death, it is about transcendence, it ta kes death, it is about transcendence, it takes poetic wonders and two strange areas. it is very underplayed and does not feel like it is manipulating your emotions that i was overwhelmed by it. everyone i know who has seen it has loved that. iam know who has seen it has loved that. i am looking forward to that. thank you very much. we will see you next week. a quick reminder before we go that you'll find more film news and reviews from across the bbc online at bbc.co.uk/mark kermode. and you can find all our previous
