spurs had a michy batshuayi own goal to thank for their equaliser. their keeper, hugo lloris may feel he could have done better to keep out alonso‘s winner. for sure, forsure, a for sure, a big forsure, a big win. it is for sure, a big win. it is not easy to play against tottenham, and then to play against tottenham, and then to when, because i consider them a really strong team. and for us, it was important, this win, and they think an amazing performance for character, for the side, for the will to fight, for the players, and for this reason, i want to say thanks. disappointed, because i thought we could have done more. they were being clinical to shoot on target, two goals, and there were a lot of chances. i think we were better. sometimes, you can be better, but if you are not clinical, you can lose.

and that is it. huddersfield made it two wins from their first two games in the premier league and currently sit second in the table, behind manchester united. aaron mooy‘s second—half strike saw off fellow promoted side newcastle united. the australian's goal was one of the highlights in a somewhat disappointing match. but a special one for the fans, and the players of huddersfield. it was a special day and a successful day as well. i think we have seen a game where both teams we re very have seen a game where both teams were very strong have seen a game where both teams were very strong in defence, both teams were very organise. we knew that we had to be patient and dave we re that we had to be patient and dave were to be successful. i think we gave more or less few chances away. i was very happy with the performance and the defence, and then we had this one great moment from aaron mooy, were we scored the winner. and there was enough today.

iam 31, i am 31, now, so iam 31, now, so i i am 31, now, so i still feel like i have a bit of cricket left in me. i am loving the energy around this team. iam am loving the energy around this team. i am loving am loving the energy around this team. iam loving being part of am loving the energy around this team. i am loving being part of it. it is one of those teams, at the moment, were it feels like somebody different is stepping up each day. that is very exciting. it is not a tea m that is very exciting. it is not a team that is reliant on two or three people to perform. it is every day that seems to make a mark on a test match. so that is a sign of a strong team, that you are not reliant on players. and it is good fun to be a pa rt players. and it is good fun to be a part of, you know? it is a great bunch. a bunch of guys who are desperate to win test matches for england, but really enjoy the process of doing that. so i am really enjoying being a part of this team, at the moment, and at 31, i have hopefully, touch wood, got a few more miles in the tank. team usa retained golf‘s solheim cup with a convincing five point

victory over europe. they needed just four points from the singles play on sunday but spirited fightback by europe at des moines wasn't enough. as alex ewing reports. europe went into the final day knowing they needed to do something special to overhaul the 5—point lead tea m special to overhaul the 5—point lead team usa had. you have any chance of doing this, they needed to get off toa doing this, they needed to get off to a good start, and putts like this from georgia bohl was what they needed. the story of the day, though, was going on between lexi thompson and anna nor theirs. team europe must have started to feel this could be their day. the best players rise to the occasion, and lexi thompson played the type of golf that showed exactly why she is ranked number two in the world, to fight back in half the hole. ultimately, you're left themselves too much to do, and wins for christie kerr helped team usa to

victory. a late fightback from europe saw them prevent a record loss, but the overall victory was clinched as team usa took its first victory on home soil since 2009. i think the real women here —— i think the real winner here was women's golf. and you can say whatever you want about the ryder cup, but yesterday, it was an amazing day of golf, both us and european. we all played with pride. we'll play with passion. and we'll with sportsmanship. —— we all played with sportsmanship. —— we all played with passion. —— and we all played with passion. —— and we all played with sportsmanship. tenors, now. —— tennis, now.

bulgarian seventh seed grigor dimitrov sealed the biggest win of his career — when he beat nick kyrgios 6—3 7—5 in the final of the cincinnati masters. dimitrov has toiled through his career, with little reward against the game's "big four" but he grasped his opportunity against kyrgios. one break in each set was enough for dimitrov to prevail under the hot afternoon sun — this his seventh career victory, and his first in a masters 1000 series event. romania's simona halep missed out on a chance to become the new world number one after being thrashed by garbine muguruza in the cincinnati 0pen final. halep lost to the wimbledon champion 6—16—0 injust 57 minutes. a win would have seen halep replace karolina pliskova at the top of the rankings. but it was an emphatic performance from wimbledon champion muguruza to win, ahead of the us open, which starts on 28 august. yves lampaert won the second stage of the vuelta a espana. the quick step floors rider becomes the first belgian to take the race leader's red jersey at the tour of spain for seven years after winning the 203 kilometre stage from nimes to gruissan, a flat stage which finished

in a bunch sprint to the line. and you can get all the latest sports news on our website, bcc.com/sport. but from me, gavin ramjaun, and the rest of the sport today team, a for now. hello. sunday yet again was a day of contrasting weather fortunes across the british isles. generally speaking, the further north and east you were, the drier and finer was your day. the cloud filled in after a bright enough start in the south. eventually, the skies became pretty leaden so there was urgent work to be done in the fields, and eventually the rain arrived. a wet start to monday, too. mild underneath the blanket of cloud and rain. the cloud sitting low on the high ground of the south and south—west. further north and east, again, it's a bright start to the day, some decent spells of sunshine. a rather cool start to the day, given those clear skies.
1:56 am
but at least you've got that sunshine. make the most of it, because it will not last in all parts, by any means at all. the general rule of thumb is to drive this rain ever further towards the north and east. it'll make slow progress, there's no doubt about it. here we are in the middle part of the afternoon. by this stage, things will have cheered up in the south for england and wales. where the sun comes out, 20—21 certainly, possibly even as high as 23 or 24. i am not sure whether the rain in the west goes to the east or a little further north. keep your weather eyes open to the east of the pennines. for the greater part of monday and on into the first part of tuesday, we will see that rain really has not completed its journey to the far north of scotland. tuesday is a bit like monday. once the rain has gone further north, it offers the opportunity across a good part of england and wales for the cloud

to begin to break. and if it does so, those temperatures really will rocket away. i show you 22—24 quite widely, but someone could have 26, possibly even 27. the weather fronts have brought the prospect of wind and rain and cloud for some. but at the same time, they herald the arrival for warm moist air from the tropics, and it hangs around into the middle of next week, until that cold front brings something more fresh from the atlantic. but the northern portion still has a lot of activity on it. there'll be some pretty heavy downpours in northern britain on wednesday. the last of those warmer days in the south as we go towards thursday and into friday, there are spells of showers, if not longer spells of rain, with temperatures maxing at 22—23. welcome to bbc news, broadcasting to viewers
